ਮਨ ਕਾਮਨਾ ਤੀਰਥ ਜਾਇ ਬਸਿਓ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਵਤ ਧਰਾਏ ॥
मन कामना तीरथ जाइ बसिओ सिरि करवत धराए ॥
Man kaamnaa ṫiraṫʰ jaa▫é basi▫o sir karvaṫ ḋʰaraa▫é.
His mind’s desires may lead him to go and dwell at sacred places of pilgrimage, and offer his head to be sawn off;

ਮਨ ਕੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਜੇ ਲਖ ਜਤਨ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੩॥
मन की मैलु न उतरै इह बिधि जे लख जतन कराए ॥३॥
Man kee mæl na uṫræ ih biḋʰ jé lakʰ jaṫan karaa▫é. ||3||
but this will not cause the filth of his mind to depart, even though he may make thousands of efforts. ||3||

ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਿਨੀ ਹੈਵਰ ਗੈਵਰ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਦਾਨੁ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥
कनिक कामिनी हैवर गैवर बहु बिधि दानु दातारा ॥
Kanik kaaminee hævar gævar baho biḋʰ ḋaan ḋaaṫaaraa.
He may give gifts of all sorts - gold, women, horses and elephants.

ਅੰਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਭੂਮਿ ਬਹੁ ਅਰਪੇ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੪॥
अंन बसत्र भूमि बहु अरपे नह मिलीऐ हरि दुआरा ॥४॥
Ann basṫar bʰoom baho arpé nah milee▫æ har ḋu▫aaraa. ||4||
He may make offerings of corn, clothes and land in abundance, but this will not lead him to the Lord’s Door. ||4||

ਪੂਜਾ ਅਰਚਾ ਬੰਦਨ ਡੰਡਉਤ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਰਤੁ ਰਹਤਾ ॥
पूजा अरचा बंदन डंडउत खटु करमा रतु रहता ॥
Poojaa archaa banḋan dand▫uṫ kʰat karmaa raṫ rahṫaa.
He may remain devoted to worship and adoration, bowing his forehead to the floor, practicing the six religious rituals.

ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬੰਧਨ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਨਹ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਇਹ ਜੁਗਤਾ ॥੫॥
हउ हउ करत बंधन महि परिआ नह मिलीऐ इह जुगता ॥५॥
Ha▫o ha▫o karaṫ banḋʰan mėh pari▫aa nah milee▫æ ih jugṫaa. ||5||
He indulges in egotism and pride, and falls into entanglements, but he does not meet the Lord by these devices. ||5||
|
ਜੋਗ ਸਿਧ ਆਸਣ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਏ ਭੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
जोग सिध आसण चउरासीह ए भी करि करि रहिआ ॥
Jog siḋʰ aasaṇ cha▫oraaseeh é bʰee kar kar rahi▫aa.
He practices the eighty-four postures of Yoga, and acquires the supernatural powers of the Siddhas, but he gets tired of practicing these.

ਵਡੀ ਆਰਜਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਨ ਗਹਿਆ ॥੬॥
वडी आरजा फिरि फिरि जनमै हरि सिउ संगु न गहिआ ॥६॥
vadee aarjaa fir fir janmæ har si▫o sang na gahi▫aa. ||6||
He lives a long life, but is reincarnated again and again; he has not met with the Lord. ||6||

ਰਾਜ ਲੀਲਾ ਰਾਜਨ ਕੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਕਰਿਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਫਾਰਾ ॥
राज लीला राजन की रचना करिआ हुकमु अफारा ॥
Raaj leelaa raajan kee rachnaa kari▫aa hukam afaaraa.
He may enjoy princely pleasures, and regal pomp and ceremony, and issue unchallenged commands.

ਸੇਜ ਸੋਹਨੀ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਚੋਆ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਕਾ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥੭॥
सेज सोहनी चंदनु चोआ नरक घोर का दुआरा ॥७॥
Séj sohnee chanḋan cho▫aa narak gʰor kaa ḋu▫aaraa. ||7||
He may lie on beautiful beds, perfumed with sandalwood oil, but this will lead him only to the gates of the most horrible hell. ||7||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਰਮਨ ਕੈ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
हरि कीरति साधसंगति है सिरि करमन कै करमा ॥
Har keeraṫ saaḋʰsangaṫ hæ sir karman kæ karmaa.
Singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is the highest of all actions.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਜਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਬ ਲਿਖੇ ਕਾ ਲਹਨਾ ॥੮॥
कहु नानक तिसु भइओ परापति जिसु पुरब लिखे का लहना ॥८॥
Kaho Naanak ṫis bʰa▫i▫o paraapaṫ jis purab likʰé kaa lahnaa. ||8||
Says Nanak, he alone obtains it, who is predestined to receive it. ||8||

ਤੇਰੋ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਇਹ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
तेरो सेवकु इह रंगि माता ॥
Ṫéro sévak ih rang maaṫaa.
Your slave is intoxicated with this Love of Yours.

ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥੧॥੩॥
भइओ क्रिपालु दीन दुख भंजनु हरि हरि कीरतनि इहु मनु राता ॥ रहाउ दूजा ॥१॥३॥
Bʰa▫i▫o kirpaal ḋeen ḋukʰ bʰanjan har har keerṫan ih man raaṫaa. Rahaa▫o ḋoojaa. ||1||3||
The Destroyer of the pains of the poor has become merciful to me, and this mind is imbued with the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||Second. Pause||1||3||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਜੇ ਸਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
सोरठि सदा सुहावणी जे सचा मनि होइ ॥
Soratʰ saḋaa suhaavaṇee jé sachaa man ho▫é.
Sorat’h is always beautiful, if it brings the True Lord to dwell in the mind of the soul-bride.

ਦੰਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਕਤੁ ਮਨਿ ਜੀਭੈ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
दंदी मैलु न कतु मनि जीभै सचा सोइ ॥
Ḋanḋee mæl na kaṫ man jeebʰæ sachaa so▫é.
Her teeth are clean and her mind is not split by duality; the Name of the True Lord is on her tongue.

ਸਸੁਰੈ ਪੇਈਐ ਭੈ ਵਸੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥
ससुरै पेईऐ भै वसी सतिगुरु सेवि निसंग ॥
Sasuræ pé▫ee▫æ bʰæ vasee saṫgur sév nisang.
Here and hereafter, she abides in the Fear of God, and serves the True Guru without hesitation.

ਪਰਹਰਿ ਕਪੜੁ ਜੇ ਪਿਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਖੁਸੀ ਰਾਵੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
परहरि कपड़ु जे पिर मिलै खुसी रावै पिरु संगि ॥
Par▫har kapaṛ jé pir milæ kʰusee raavæ pir sang.
Discarding worldly adornments, she meets her Husband Lord, and she celebrates joyfully with Him.

ਸਦਾ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ਨਾਉ ਮਨਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੈਲੁ ਪਤੰਗੁ ॥
सदा सीगारी नाउ मनि कदे न मैलु पतंगु ॥
Saḋaa seegaaree naa▫o man kaḋé na mæl paṫang.
She is adorned forever with the Name in her mind, and she does not have even an iota of filth.

ਦੇਵਰ ਜੇਠ ਮੁਏ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਸੂ ਕਾ ਡਰੁ ਕਿਸੁ ॥
देवर जेठ मुए दुखि ससू का डरु किसु ॥
Ḋévar jétʰ mu▫é ḋukʰ sasoo kaa dar kis.
Her husband’s younger and elder brothers, the corrupt desires, have died, suffering in pain; and now, who fears Maya, the mother-in-law?

ਜੇ ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਕਰਮ ਮਣੀ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ॥੧॥
जे पिर भावै नानका करम मणी सभु सचु ॥१॥
Jé pir bʰaavæ naankaa karam maṇee sabʰ sach. ||1||
If she becomes pleasing to her Husband Lord, O Nanak! She bears the jewel of good karma upon her forehead, and everything is Truth to her. ||1||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਤਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ਜਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਢੰਢੋਲੇ ॥
सोरठि तामि सुहावणी जा हरि नामु ढंढोले ॥
Soratʰ ṫaam suhaavaṇee jaa har naam dʰandʰolé.
Sorat’h is beautiful only when it leads the soul-bride to seek the Lord’s Name.

ਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਨਾਵੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੇ ॥
गुर पुरखु मनावै आपणा गुरमती हरि हरि बोले ॥
Gur purakʰ manaavæ aapṇaa gurmaṫee har har bolé.
She pleases her Guru and God; under Guru’s Instruction, she speaks the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਕਸਾਈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚੋਲੇ ॥
हरि प्रेमि कसाई दिनसु राति हरि रती हरि रंगि चोले ॥
Har parém kasaa▫ee ḋinas raaṫ har raṫee har rang cholé.
She is attracted to the Lord’s Name, day and night, and her body is drenched in the color of the Love of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਮੈ ਟੋਲੇ ॥
हरि जैसा पुरखु न लभई सभु देखिआ जगतु मै टोले ॥
Har jæsaa purakʰ na labʰ▫ee sabʰ ḋékʰi▫aa jagaṫ mæ tolé.
No other being like the Lord God can be found; I have looked and searched over the whole world.

ਗੁਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਡੋਲੇ ॥
गुरि सतिगुरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ मनु अनत न काहू डोले ॥
Gur saṫgur naam driṛ▫aa▫i▫aa man anaṫ na kaahoo dolé.
The Guru, the True Guru, has implanted the Naam within me; my mind does not waver anymore.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੋਲ ਗੋਲੇ ॥੨॥
जनु नानकु हरि का दासु है गुर सतिगुर के गोल गोले ॥२॥
Jan Naanak har kaa ḋaas hæ gur saṫgur ké gol golé. ||2||
Servant Nanak is the Lord’s slave, the slave of the slaves of the Guru, the True Guru. ||2||

You Yourself are the Creator, the Fashioner of the world.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
तुधु आपे खेलु रचाइ तुधु आपि सवारिआ ॥
Ṫuḋʰ aapé kʰél rachaa▫é ṫuḋʰ aap savaari▫aa.
You Yourself have arranged the play, and You Yourself arrange it.

ਦਾਤਾ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਭੋਗਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
दाता करता आपि आपि भोगणहारिआ ॥
Ḋaaṫaa karṫaa aap aap bʰogaṇhaari▫aa.
You Yourself are the Giver and the Creator; You Yourself are the Enjoyer.

ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
सभु तेरा सबदु वरतै उपावणहारिआ ॥
Sabʰ ṫéraa sabaḋ varṫæ upaavaṇhaari▫aa.
The Word of Your Shabad is pervading everywhere, O Creator Lord.

ਹਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
हउ गुरमुखि सदा सलाही गुर कउ वारिआ ॥१॥
Ha▫o gurmukʰ saḋaa salaahee gur ka▫o vaari▫aa. ||1||
As Gurmukh, I ever praise the Lord; I am a sacrifice to the Guru. ||1||
