Sorath 9th Guru.

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਾਨਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
प्रीतम जानि लेहु मन माही ॥
Parīṯam jān leho man māhī.
O dear friend, realise it in Thy mind,
|
ਅਪਨੇ ਸੁਖ ਸਿਉ ਹੀ ਜਗੁ ਫਾਂਧਿਓ ਕੋ ਕਾਹੂ ਕੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अपने सुख सिउ ही जगु फांधिओ को काहू को नाही ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Apne sukẖ si▫o hī jag fāʼnḏẖi▫o ko kāhū ko nāhī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
that the world is entangled in its own comfort and no body is anyone else's friend. Pause.

ਸੁਖ ਮੈ ਆਨਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੈਠਤ ਰਹਤ ਚਹੂ ਦਿਸਿ ਘੇਰੈ ॥
सुख मै आनि बहुतु मिलि बैठत रहत चहू दिसि घेरै ॥
Sukẖ mai ān bahuṯ mil baiṯẖaṯ rahaṯ cẖahū ḏis gẖerai.
In prosperity, many persons come and sit together encircling thee on the four sides.

ਬਿਪਤਿ ਪਰੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਸੰਗੁ ਛਾਡਿਤ ਕੋਊ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਨੇਰੈ ॥੧॥
बिपति परी सभ ही संगु छाडित कोऊ न आवत नेरै ॥१॥
Bipaṯ parī sabẖ hī sang cẖẖādiṯ ko▫ū na āvaṯ nerai. ||1||
When adversity befalls thee, all abandon thy company and no one comes near thee.

ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਹਿਤੁ ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਤ ਸੰਗ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
घर की नारि बहुतु हितु जा सिउ सदा रहत संग लागी ॥
Gẖar kī nār bahuṯ hiṯ jā si▫o saḏā rahaṯ sang lāgī.
The house wife, with whom thou hast great love and who ever remains attached to thee,

ਜਬ ਹੀ ਹੰਸ ਤਜੀ ਇਹ ਕਾਂਇਆ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੨॥
जब ही हंस तजी इह कांइआ प्रेत प्रेत करि भागी ॥२॥
Jab hī hans ṯajī ih kāʼn▫i▫ā pareṯ pareṯ kar bẖāgī. ||2||
when the soul leaves the body, she flees away from it crying "Ghost! Ghost!
|
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ਬਨਿਓ ਹੈ ਜਾ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਲਗਾਇਓ ॥
इह बिधि को बिउहारु बनिओ है जा सिउ नेहु लगाइओ ॥
Ih biḏẖ ko bi▫uhār bani▫o hai jā si▫o nehu lagā▫i▫o.
This is the way of the conduct of those, with whom we bear love.

ਅੰਤ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਕੋਊ ਕਾਮਿ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥੩॥੧੨॥੧੩੯॥
अंत बार नानक बिनु हरि जी कोऊ कामि न आइओ ॥३॥१२॥१३९॥
Anṯ bār Nānak bin har jī ko▫ū kām na ā▫i▫o. ||3||12||139||
At the last moment, O Nanak, save the sire Lord, none is of any avail.

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਚਉਤੁਕੀ
सोरठि महला १ घरु १ असटपदीआ चउतुकी

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
There is but One God. By True Guru's grace is He obtained.
|
ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਨ ਪੜਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਉ ਮੜੈ ਮਸਾਣਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
दुबिधा न पड़उ हरि बिनु होरु न पूजउ मड़ै मसाणि न जाई ॥
Ḏubiḏẖā na paṛa▫o har bin hor na pūja▫o maṛai masāṇ na jā▫ī.
I read not regarding duality, worship not any but my God and visit nor mausoleums or crematoriums.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਰਾਚਿ ਨ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਵਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
त्रिसना राचि न पर घरि जावा त्रिसना नामि बुझाई ॥
Ŧarisnā rācẖ na par gẖar jāvā ṯarisnā nām bujẖā▫ī.
Engrossed in desire, I enter not strange house. The Name has stilled my desire.

ਘਰ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
घर भीतरि घरु गुरू दिखाइआ सहजि रते मन भाई ॥
Gẖar bẖīṯar gẖar gurū ḏikẖā▫i▫ā sahj raṯe man bẖā▫ī.
Within my mind, the Guru has shown me the Lord's abode and my soul is imbued with equipoise, O brother.

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਨਾ ਆਪੇ ਬੀਨਾ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਈ ॥੧॥
तू आपे दाना आपे बीना तू देवहि मति साई ॥१॥
Ŧū āpe ḏānā āpe bīnā ṯū ḏevėh maṯ sā▫ī. ||1||
Thou Thyself art wise and Thyself all-seeing and it is only Thee, O Lord, who givest wisdom.

ਮਨੁ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ਰਤਉ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
मनु बैरागि रतउ बैरागी सबदि मनु बेधिआ मेरी माई ॥
Man bairāg raṯa▫o bairāgī sabaḏ man beḏẖi▫ā merī mā▫ī.
My detached soul is imbued with dispassion and the Name has penetrated my mind, O my mother.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸਿਉ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अंतरि जोति निरंतरि बाणी साचे साहिब सिउ लिव लाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
Anṯar joṯ niranṯar baṇī sācẖe sāhib si▫o liv lā▫ī. Rahā▫o.
He who bears love to the True Lord and continuously repeats Gurbani, beholds His light within his mind. Pause.

ਅਸੰਖ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਕਹਹਿ ਬੈਰਾਗ ਸੋ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਜਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
असंख बैरागी कहहि बैराग सो बैरागी जि खसमै भावै ॥
Asaʼnkẖ bairāgī kahėh bairāg so bairāgī jė kẖasmai bẖāvai.
Countless world renouncers talk or renunciation, but he alone, is the true renouncer who is pleasing to the Master.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਭੈ ਰਚਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
हिरदै सबदि सदा भै रचिआ गुर की कार कमावै ॥
Hirḏai sabaḏ saḏā bẖai racẖi▫ā gur kī kār kamāvai.
He treasures the Name in the heart, ever remains absorbed in the Lord's fear and serves the Guru.

ਏਕੋ ਚੇਤੈ ਮਨੂਆ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਵਰਜਿ ਰਹਾਵੈ ॥
एको चेतै मनूआ न डोलै धावतु वरजि रहावै ॥
Ėko cẖeṯai manū▫ā na dolai ḏẖāvaṯ varaj rahāvai.
The One Lord, he remembers, his mind wavers not and he stops and restrains the mind's wanderings.

ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
सहजे माता सदा रंगि राता साचे के गुण गावै ॥२॥
Sėhje māṯā saḏā rang rāṯā sācẖe ke guṇ gāvai. ||2||
He is inebriated with the Divine pleasure and is ever imbued with Lord's love and sings he the praise of the True one.

ਮਨੂਆ ਪਉਣੁ ਬਿੰਦੁ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਸੈ ਸੁਖ ਭਾਈ ॥
मनूआ पउणु बिंदु सुखवासी नामि वसै सुख भाई ॥
Manū▫ā pa▫uṇ binḏ sukẖvāsī nām vasai sukẖ bẖā▫ī.
If the man's wind-like mind rests in peace, even for a trice, he shall abide in the Name-bliss O brother.

ਜਿਹਬਾ ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਸੋਤ੍ਰ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜਲਿ ਬੂਝੀ ਤੁਝਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
जिहबा नेत्र सोत्र सचि राते जलि बूझी तुझहि बुझाई ॥
Jihbā neṯar soṯar sacẖ rāṯe jal būjẖī ṯujẖėh bujẖā▫ī.
His tongue, eyes and ears are imbued with truth. His fire (of worldly passions) is extinguished and Thou, O Lord, hast quenched it.

ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਰਹੈ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ॥
आस निरास रहै बैरागी निज घरि ताड़ी लाई ॥
Ās nirās rahai bairāgī nij gẖar ṯāṛī lā▫ī.
In hope, the world-renouncer remains desireless and in his very home he assumes profound trance.
|
ਭਿਖਿਆ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਜੇ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਪੀਆਈ ॥੩॥
भिखिआ नामि रजे संतोखी अम्रितु सहजि पीआई ॥३॥
Bẖikẖi▫ā nām raje sanṯokẖī amriṯ sahj pī▫ā▫ī. ||3||
The contented person remains sated with the alms of the Name and easily quaffs Lord's Nectar.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਵੀ ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਦੂਜੀ ਰਾਈ ॥
दुबिधा विचि बैरागु न होवी जब लगु दूजी राई ॥
Ḏubiḏẖā vicẖ bairāg na hovī jab lag ḏūjī rā▫ī.
In double-mindedness and so long as there is even a particle of duality there can be no renunciation of the world.
|
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਤੂ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਈ ॥
सभु जगु तेरा तू एको दाता अवरु न दूजा भाई ॥
Sabẖ jag ṯerā ṯū eko ḏāṯā avar na ḏūjā bẖā▫ī.
The entire world is Thine O Lord, Thou, alone art the giver and there is not any other, O brother.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੰਤ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
मनमुखि जंत दुखि सदा निवासी गुरमुखि दे वडिआई ॥
Manmukẖ janṯ ḏukẖ saḏā nivāsī gurmukẖ ḏe vadi▫ā▫ī.
The perverse person ever abides in misery but to the Guru-ward, the Lord gives greatness.

ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਗੰਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਕਹਣੈ ਕੀਮ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥
अपर अपार अगम अगोचर कहणै कीम न पाई ॥४॥
Apar apār agamm agocẖar kahṇai kīm na pā▫ī. ||4||
Infinite, Boundless, Inaccessible and Inapprehensible is the Lord and His worth cannot be ascertained by speaking.

ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਰਮਾਰਥੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਣ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੰ ॥
सुंन समाधि महा परमारथु तीनि भवण पति नामं ॥
Sunn samāḏẖ mahā parmārath ṯīn bẖavaṇ paṯ nāmaʼn.
The Embracer of primordial trance, the Exceedingly supreme being and the Lord of three worlds art Thine Names, O Master.

ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਜੀਆ ਜਗਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਸਹਾਮੰ ॥
मसतकि लेखु जीआ जगि जोनी सिरि सिरि लेखु सहामं ॥
Masṯak lekẖ jī▫ā jag jonī sir sir lekẖ sahāmaʼn.
The creatures born in this world have their destinies recorded on their foreheads and everyone bears what is destined for him.

ਕਰਮ ਸੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਮੰ ॥
करम सुकरम कराए आपे आपे भगति द्रिड़ामं ॥
Karam sukaram karā▫e āpe āpe bẖagaṯ ḏariṛ▫ām.
The Lord Himself causes man to perform evil deeds and good deeds and He Himself makes him steadfast in His worship.

ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਜੂਠਿ ਲਹੈ ਭੈ ਮਾਨੰ ਆਪੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਗਾਮੰ ॥੫॥
मनि मुखि जूठि लहै भै मानं आपे गिआनु अगामं ॥५॥
Man mukẖ jūṯẖ lahai bẖai mānaʼn āpe gi▫ān agāmaʼn. ||5||
Abiding in the Lord's feat, the filth of man's mind and mouth is washed off and the inaccessible Lord Himself blessed him with gnosis.
