ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵੈਸੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਪੈਨਣੁ ਖਾਇਆ
मालु जोबनु छोडि वैसी रहिओ पैनणु खाइआ ॥
Māl joban cẖẖod vaisī rahi▫o painaṇ kẖā▫i▫ā.
Abandoning your wealth and youth, you will have to leave, without any food or clothing.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੁਲਿਆ ਨਹ ਜਾਇ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
नानक कमाणा संगि जुलिआ नह जाइ किरतु मिटाइआ ॥१॥
Nānak kamāṇā sang juli▫ā nah jā▫e kiraṯ mitā▫i▫ā. ||1||
O Nanak, only your actions shall go with you; the consequences of your actions cannot be erased. ||1||

ਫਾਥੋਹੁ ਮਿਰਗ ਜਿਵੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਰੈਣਿ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਾਇਣੁ
फाथोहु मिरग जिवै पेखि रैणि चंद्राइणु ॥
Fāthohu mirag jivai pekẖ raiṇ cẖanḏrā▫iṇ.
Like the deer, captured on a moon-lit night,

ਸੂਖਹੁ ਦੂਖ ਭਏ ਨਿਤ ਪਾਪ ਕਮਾਇਣੁ
सूखहु दूख भए नित पाप कमाइणु ॥
Sūkẖahu ḏūkẖ bẖa▫e niṯ pāp kamā▫iṇ.
so does the constant commission of sins turn pleasure into pain.

ਪਾਪਾ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਛਡਹਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਲੈ ਚਲੇ ਘਤਿ ਗਲਾਵਿਆ
पापा कमाणे छडहि नाही लै चले घति गलाविआ ॥
Pāpā kamāṇe cẖẖadėh nāhī lai cẖale gẖaṯ galāvi▫ā.
The sins you have committed shall not leave you; placing the noose around your neck, they shall lead you away.

ਹਰਿਚੰਦਉਰੀ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੂਠਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੇਜਾ ਰਾਵਿਆ
हरिचंदउरी देखि मूठा कूड़ु सेजा राविआ ॥
Haricẖanḏ▫urī ḏekẖ mūṯẖā kūṛ sejā rāvi▫ā.
Beholding an illusion, you are deceived, and on your bed, you enjoy a false lover.

ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਗਰਬਿ ਭਇਆ ਸਮਾਇਣੁ
लबि लोभि अहंकारि माता गरबि भइआ समाइणु ॥
Lab lobẖ ahaʼnkār māṯā garab bẖa▫i▫ā samā▫iṇ.
You are intoxicated with greed, avarice and egotism; you are engrossed in self-conceit.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਅਗਿਆਨਿ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਨਹ ਮਿਟੈ ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਇਣੁ ॥੨॥
नानक म्रिग अगिआनि बिनसे नह मिटै आवणु जाइणु ॥२॥
Nānak marig agi▫ān binse nah mitai āvaṇ jā▫iṇ. ||2||
O Nanak, like the deer, you are being destroyed by your ignorance; your comings and goings shall never end. ||2||

ਮਿਠੈ ਮਖੁ ਮੁਆ ਕਿਉ ਲਏ ਓਡਾਰੀ
मिठै मखु मुआ किउ लए ओडारी ॥
Miṯẖai makẖ mu▫ā ki▫o la▫e odārī.
The fly is caught in the sweet candy - how can it fly away?

ਹਸਤੀ ਗਰਤਿ ਪਇਆ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਤਾਰੀ
हसती गरति पइआ किउ तरीऐ तारी ॥
Hasṯī garaṯ pa▫i▫ā ki▫o ṯarī▫ai ṯārī.
The elephant has fallen into the pit - how can it escape?

ਤਰਣੁ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਭਇਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਇਓ
तरणु दुहेला भइआ खिन महि खसमु चिति न आइओ ॥
Ŧaraṇ ḏuhelā bẖa▫i▫ā kẖin mėh kẖasam cẖiṯ na ā▫i▫o.
It shall be so difficult to swim across, for one who does not remember the Lord and Master, even for an instant.

ਦੂਖਾ ਸਜਾਈ ਗਣਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਣਾ ਪਾਇਓ
दूखा सजाई गणत नाही कीआ अपणा पाइओ ॥
Ḏūkẖā sajā▫ī gaṇaṯ nāhī kī▫ā apṇā pā▫i▫o.
His sufferings and punishments are beyond reckoning; he receives the consequences of his own actions.

ਗੁਝਾ ਕਮਾਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਆ ਈਤ ਉਤਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੀ
गुझा कमाणा प्रगटु होआ ईत उतहि खुआरी ॥
Gujẖā kamāṇā pargat ho▫ā īṯ uṯėh kẖu▫ārī.
His secret deeds are exposed, and he is ruined here and hereafter.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝੁ ਮੂਠਾ ਮਨਮੁਖੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
नानक सतिगुर बाझु मूठा मनमुखो अहंकारी ॥३॥
Nānak saṯgur bājẖ mūṯẖā manmukẖo ahaʼnkārī. ||3||
O Nanak, without the True Guru, the self-willed egotistical manmukh is defrauded. ||3||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਜੀਵੇ ਲਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ
हरि के दास जीवे लगि प्रभ की चरणी ॥
Har ke ḏās jīve lag parabẖ kī cẖarṇī.
The Lord's slaves live by holding on to God's feet.

ਕੰਠਿ ਲਗਾਇ ਲੀਏ ਤਿਸੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਰਣੀ
कंठि लगाइ लीए तिसु ठाकुर सरणी ॥
Kanṯẖ lagā▫e lī▫e ṯis ṯẖākur sarṇī.
The Lord and Master embraces those who seek His Sanctuary.

ਬਲ ਬੁਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਣਾ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਾਇਆ
बल बुधि गिआनु धिआनु अपणा आपि नामु जपाइआ ॥
Bal buḏẖ gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān apṇā āp nām japā▫i▫ā.
He blesses them with power, wisdom, knowledge and meditation; He Himself inspires them to chant His Name.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਪਿ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ
साधसंगति आपि होआ आपि जगतु तराइआ ॥
Sāḏẖsangaṯ āp ho▫ā āp jagaṯ ṯarā▫i▫ā.
He Himself is the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and He Himself saves the world.

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਏ ਰਖਣਹਾਰੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਰਣੀ
राखि लीए रखणहारै सदा निरमल करणी ॥
Rākẖ lī▫e rakẖaṇhārai saḏā nirmal karṇī.
The Preserver preserves those whose actions are always pure.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਰਕਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਸਰਣੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੧੧॥
नानक नरकि न जाहि कबहूं हरि संत हरि की सरणी ॥४॥२॥११॥
Nānak narak na jāhi kabahūʼn har sanṯ har kī sarṇī. ||4||2||11||
O Nanak, they never have to go to hell; the Lord's Saints are under the Lord's Protection. ||4||2||11||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ
आसा महला ५ ॥
Āsā mėhlā 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਵੰਞੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਆਲਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਿ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ
वंञु मेरे आलसा हरि पासि बेनंती ॥
vañ mere ālsā har pās benanṯī.
Be gone, O my laziness, that I may pray to the Lord.

ਰਾਵਉ ਸਹੁ ਆਪਨੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ
रावउ सहु आपनड़ा प्रभ संगि सोहंती ॥
Rāva▫o saho āpnaṛā parabẖ sang sohanṯī.
I enjoy my Husband Lord, and look beautiful with my God.

ਸੰਗੇ ਸੋਹੰਤੀ ਕੰਤ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰੈਣੀ ਰਾਵੀਐ
संगे सोहंती कंत सुआमी दिनसु रैणी रावीऐ ॥
Sange sohanṯī kanṯ su▫āmī ḏinas raiṇī rāvī▫ai.
I look beautiful in the Company of my Husband Lord; I enjoy my Lord Master day and night.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਚਿਤਾਰਿ ਜੀਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੀਐ
सासि सासि चितारि जीवा प्रभु पेखि हरि गुण गावीऐ ॥
Sās sās cẖiṯār jīvā parabẖ pekẖ har guṇ gāvī▫ai.
I live by remembering God with each and every breath, beholding the Lord, and singing His Glorious Praises.

ਬਿਰਹਾ ਲਜਾਇਆ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਮਿਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਿੰਚੰਤੀ
बिरहा लजाइआ दरसु पाइआ अमिउ द्रिसटि सिंचंती ॥
Birhā lajā▫i▫ā ḏaras pā▫i▫ā ami▫o ḏarisat siʼncẖanṯī.
The pain of separation has grown shy, for I have obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; His Ambrosial Glance of Grace has filled me with bliss.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਇਛ ਪੁੰਨੀ ਮਿਲੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਖੋਜੰਤੀ ॥੧॥
बिनवंति नानकु मेरी इछ पुंनी मिले जिसु खोजंती ॥१॥
Binvanṯ Nānak merī icẖẖ punnī mile jis kẖojanṯī. ||1||
Prays Nanak, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1||

ਨਸਿ ਵੰਞਹੁ ਕਿਲਵਿਖਹੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ
नसि वंञहु किलविखहु करता घरि आइआ ॥
Nas vañahu kilvikẖahu karṯā gẖar ā▫i▫ā.
Run away, O sins; the Creator has entered my home.

ਦੂਤਹ ਦਹਨੁ ਭਇਆ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਾਇਆ
दूतह दहनु भइआ गोविंदु प्रगटाइआ ॥
Ḏūṯah ḏahan bẖa▫i▫ā govinḏ paragtā▫i▫ā.
The demons within me have been burnt; the Lord of the Universe has revealed Himself to me.

ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਲਾਲਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ
प्रगटे गुपाल गोबिंद लालन साधसंगि वखाणिआ ॥
Pargate gupāl gobinḏ lālan sāḏẖsang vakẖāṇi▫ā.
The Beloved Lord of the Universe, the Lord of the World has revealed Himself; in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I chant His Name.

ਆਚਰਜੁ ਡੀਠਾ ਅਮਿਉ ਵੂਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਣਿਆ
आचरजु डीठा अमिउ वूठा गुर प्रसादी जाणिआ ॥
Ācẖaraj dīṯẖā ami▫o vūṯẖā gur parsādī jāṇi▫ā.
I have seen the Wondrous Lord; He showers His Ambrosial Nectar upon me, and by Guru's Grace, I know Him.

ਮਨਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਵਜੀ ਵਧਾਈ ਨਹ ਅੰਤੁ ਜਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ
मनि सांति आई वजी वधाई नह अंतु जाई पाइआ ॥
Man sāʼnṯ ā▫ī vajī vaḏẖā▫ī nah anṯ jā▫ī pā▫i▫ā.
My mind is at peace, resounding with the music of bliss; the Lord's limits cannot be found.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਮੇਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਆਪਿ ਬਣਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
बिनवंति नानक सुख सहजि मेला प्रभू आपि बणाइआ ॥२॥
Binvanṯ Nānak sukẖ sahj melā parabẖū āp baṇā▫i▫ā. ||2||
Prays Nanak, God brings us to union with Himself, in the poise of celestial peace. ||2||

ਨਰਕ ਡੀਠੜਿਆ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਰਾਇਣ
नरक न डीठड़िआ सिमरत नाराइण ॥
Narak na dīṯẖ▫ṛi▫ā simraṯ nārā▫iṇ.
They do not have to see hell, if they remember the Lord in meditation.

ਜੈ ਜੈ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਤ ਭਏ ਪਲਾਇਣ
जै जै धरमु करे दूत भए पलाइण ॥
Jai jai ḏẖaram kare ḏūṯ bẖa▫e palā▫iṇ.
The Righteous Judge of Dharma applauds them, and the Messenger of Death runs away from them.

ਧਰਮ ਧੀਰਜ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਜੇ
धरम धीरज सहज सुखीए साधसंगति हरि भजे ॥
Ḏẖaram ḏẖīraj sahj sukẖī▫e sāḏẖsangaṯ har bẖaje.
Dharmic faith, patience, peace and poise are obtained by vibrating upon the Lord in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਕਰਿ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਰਾਖਿ ਲੀਨੇ ਮੋਹ ਮਮਤਾ ਸਭ ਤਜੇ
करि अनुग्रहु राखि लीने मोह ममता सभ तजे ॥
Kar anūgrahu rākẖ līne moh mamṯā sabẖ ṯaje.
Showering His Blessings, He saves those who renounce all attachments and egotism.

ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਏ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਜਪਤ ਅਘਾਇਣ
गहि कंठि लाए गुरि मिलाए गोविंद जपत अघाइण ॥
Gėh kanṯẖ lā▫e gur milā▫e govinḏ japaṯ agẖā▫iṇ.
The Lord embraces us; the Guru unites us with Him. Meditating on the Lord of the Universe, we are satisfied.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਪੁਜਾਇਣ ॥੩॥
बिनवंति नानक सिमरि सुआमी सगल आस पुजाइण ॥३॥
Binvanṯ Nānak simar su▫āmī sagal ās pujā▫iṇ. ||3||
Prays Nanak, remembering the Lord and Master in meditation, all hopes are fulfilled. ||3||
