असंख भगत गुण गिआन वीचार ॥
Asaʼnkẖ bẖagaṯ guṇ gi▫ān vīcẖār.
Countless are the votaries who reflect over the Lord's excellences and theology.

असंख सती असंख दातार ॥
Asaʼnkẖ saṯī asaʼnkẖ ḏāṯār.
Countless are the men of piety and countless the men of bounty.

असंख सूर मुह भख सार ॥
Asaʼnkẖ sūr muh bẖakẖ sār.
Countless are the warriors who eat steel with their mouth (bear the brunt on their face).

असंख मोनि लिव लाइ तार ॥
Asaʼnkẖ mon liv lā▫e ṯār.
Countless are the silent sages who center their love and attention on the Lord.

कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥
Kuḏraṯ kavaṇ kahā vīcẖār.
What power have I to describe Thine doctrines (Thee)?

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥
vāri▫ā na jāvā ek vār.
I cannot even once be a sacrifice unto Thee.

जो तुधु भावै साई भली कार ॥
Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai sā▫ī bẖalī kār.
Whatever pleases Thee, is a good pursuit.

तू सदा सलामति निरंकार ॥१७॥
Ŧū saḏā salāmaṯ nirankār. ||17||
Thou art ever safe and sound, O Formless One!

असंख मूरख अंध घोर ॥
Asaʼnkẖ mūrakẖ anḏẖ gẖor.
Numberless are the fools, appallingly blind.

असंख चोर हरामखोर ॥
Asaʼnkẖ cẖor harāmkẖor.
Numberless are the thieves and the devourers of other's property.

असंख अमर करि जाहि जोर ॥
Asaʼnkẖ amar kar jāhi jor.
Numberless depart after establishing their sovereignty by force.

असंख गलवढ हतिआ कमाहि ॥
Asaʼnkẖ galvadẖ haṯi▫ā kamāhi.
Numberless are those who cut throats and commit murders.

असंख पापी पापु करि जाहि ॥
Asaʼnkẖ pāpī pāp kar jāhi.
Numberless are the sinners who go on committing sins.

असंख कूड़िआर कूड़े फिराहि ॥
Asaʼnkẖ kūṛi▫ār kūṛe firāhi.
Numberless are the liars who wander in falsehood.

असंख मलेछ मलु भखि खाहि ॥
Asaʼnkẖ malecẖẖ mal bẖakẖ kẖāhi.
Numberless are the dirty-wretch who partake filth as their ration.

असंख निंदक सिरि करहि भारु ॥
Asaʼnkẖ ninḏak sir karahi bẖār.
Numberless are the slanderers who carry on their heads loads of sins.

नानकु नीचु कहै वीचारु ॥
Nānak nīcẖ kahai vīcẖār.
Nanak, the lowly, gives description.

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥
vāri▫ā na jāvā ek vār.
I cannot even once be a sacrifice unto Thee.

जो तुधु भावै साई भली कार ॥
Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai sā▫ī bẖalī kār.
What ever pleases Thee, that is a good pursuit.

तू सदा सलामति निरंकार ॥१८॥
Ŧū saḏā salāmaṯ nirankār. ||18||
Thou art ever safe and sound, O Formless One!

असंख नाव असंख थाव ॥
Asaʼnkẖ nāv asaʼnkẖ thāv.
Innumerable are Thine Names and innumerable Thine abodes, O Lord!

अगम अगम असंख लोअ ॥
Agamm agamm asaʼnkẖ lo▫a.
Innumerable are Thine realms, inaccessible and inscrutable.

असंख कहहि सिरि भारु होइ ॥
Asaʼnkẖ kėhahi sir bẖār ho▫e.
Even to call them myriad amounts to carrying load of sin on the head.

अखरी नामु अखरी सालाह ॥
Akẖrī nām akẖrī sālāh.
Through words Thy Name is uttered and through words Thou art praised.

अखरी गिआनु गीत गुण गाह ॥
Akẖrī gi▫ān gīṯ guṇ gāh.
Through words the songs of Thy theology and Thine attributes are hymned.

अखरी लिखणु बोलणु बाणि ॥
Akẖrī likẖaṇ bolaṇ bāṇ.
In letters the uttered hymns are recorded.

अखरा सिरि संजोगु वखाणि ॥
Akẖrā sir sanjog vakẖāṇ.
Destiny is described with letters on Mortal's brow.

जिनि एहि लिखे तिसु सिरि नाहि ॥
Jin ehi likẖe ṯis sir nāhi.
But He (God) who scribed these destinies has no scribes on his head (His head bears it not).

जिव फुरमाए तिव तिव पाहि ॥
Jiv furmā▫e ṯiv ṯiv pāhi.
As He ordains, so do men obtain.

जेता कीता तेता नाउ ॥
Jeṯā kīṯā ṯeṯā nā▫o.
As great is thy creation, so great is Thine celebrity.

विणु नावै नाही को थाउ ॥
viṇ nāvai nāhī ko thā▫o.
Without Thy Name, there is no place.

कुदरति कवण कहा वीचारु ॥
Kuḏraṯ kavaṇ kahā vīcẖār.
What power have I to describe Thine doctrines (Thee)?

वारिआ न जावा एक वार ॥
vāri▫ā na jāvā ek vār.
I cannot even once be a sacrifice unto Thee.

भरीऐ हथु पैरु तनु देह ॥
Bẖarī▫ai hath pair ṯan ḏeh.
The dust of the besmeared hands, feet and other parts of the body,

पाणी धोतै उतरसु खेह ॥
Pāṇī ḏẖoṯai uṯras kẖeh.
is removed by washing with water.

मूत पलीती कपड़ु होइ ॥
Mūṯ palīṯī kapaṛ ho▫e.
The garment polluted with urine,

दे साबूणु लईऐ ओहु धोइ ॥
Ḏe sābūṇ la▫ī▫ai oh ḏẖo▫e.
is washed clean by applying soap.

भरीऐ मति पापा कै संगि ॥
Bẖarī▫ai maṯ pāpā kai sang.
The soul defiled with sins,

ओहु धोपै नावै कै रंगि ॥
Oh ḏẖopai nāvai kai rang.
is cleaned with the love of God's Name.

पुंनी पापी आखणु नाहि ॥
Punnī pāpī ākẖaṇ nāhi.
By mere words of mouth (statements) a man becomes not virtuous or vicious.

करि करि करणा लिखि लै जाहु ॥
Kar kar karṇā likẖ lai jāhu.
The often repeated actions are engraved on the heart.

आपे बीजि आपे ही खाहु ॥
Āpe bīj āpe hī kẖāhu.
Man himself sows and himself reaps (he reaps what he sows).

नानक हुकमी आवहु जाहु ॥२०॥
Nānak hukmī āvhu jāhu. ||20||
By God's Order, O Nanak! man comes and goes.

तीरथु तपु दइआ दतु दानु ॥
Ŧirath ṯap ḏa▫i▫ā ḏaṯ ḏān.
Pilgrimage, penance, compassion and alms giving,

जे को पावै तिल का मानु ॥
Je ko pāvai ṯil kā mān.
bring only a sesame (tiny amount) of honour (merit), if any.

सुणिआ मंनिआ मनि कीता भाउ ॥
Suṇi▫ā mani▫ā man kīṯā bẖā▫o.
Whoever heartily hears, believes and loves God's Name,

अंतरगति तीरथि मलि नाउ ॥
Anṯargaṯ ṯirath mal nā▫o.
obtains salvation by thoroughly bathing in the shrine within himself.

सभि गुण तेरे मै नाही कोइ ॥
Sabẖ guṇ ṯere mai nāhī ko▫e.
All virtues are Thine, O Lord! I have none.

विणु गुण कीते भगति न होइ ॥
viṇ guṇ kīṯe bẖagaṯ na ho▫e.
Without acquiring the virtues, Lord's devotional service can not be performed.

सुअसति आथि बाणी बरमाउ ॥
Su▫asaṯ āth baṇī barmā▫o.
My obeisance is unto God, who Himself is the creator of world and Brahma etc.

सति सुहाणु सदा मनि चाउ ॥
Saṯ suhāṇ saḏā man cẖā▫o.
He is true and beautiful and rapture ever abides within His mind.

कवणु सु वेला वखतु कवणु कवण थिति कवणु वारु ॥
Kavaṇ so velā vakẖaṯ kavaṇ kavaṇ thiṯ kavaṇ vār.
What the time, what movement, what lunar day, what week day,

कवणि सि रुती माहु कवणु जितु होआ आकारु ॥
Kavaṇ sė ruṯī māhu kavaṇ jiṯ ho▫ā ākār.
and what the season and what month, when the creation came into being?

वेल न पाईआ पंडती जि होवै लेखु पुराणु ॥
vel na pā▫ī▫ā pandṯī jė hovai lekẖ purāṇ.
The Pundits find not the time, even though it be mentioned in the Puran's texts.

वखतु न पाइओ कादीआ जि लिखनि लेखु कुराणु ॥
vakẖaṯ na pā▫i▫o kāḏī▫ā jė likẖan lekẖ kurāṇ.
Nor do the Qazis, who scribe the writing of Quran, Know the time.

थिति वारु ना जोगी जाणै रुति माहु ना कोई ॥
Thiṯ vār nā jogī jāṇai ruṯ māhu nā ko▫ī.
Neither the yogi nor any one else knows the lunar day, week day season and the month.

जा करता सिरठी कउ साजे आपे जाणै सोई ॥
Jā karṯā sirṯẖī ka▫o sāje āpe jāṇai so▫ī.
The Creator who creates the world, He Himself Knows (the time).

किव करि आखा किव सालाही किउ वरनी किव जाणा ॥
Kiv kar ākẖā kiv sālāhī ki▫o varnī kiv jāṇā.
How to express, how to praise, how to describe and how to know Thee, O Lord?
