ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि जीउ सदा धिआइ तू गुरमुखि एकंकारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har jee▫o saḋaa ḋʰi▫aa▫é ṫoo gurmukʰ ékankaar. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Become Gurmukh, and meditate forever on the Dear Lord, the One and Only Creator. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
गुरमुखा के मुख उजले गुर सबदी बीचारि ॥
Gurmukʰaa ké mukʰ ujlé gur sabḋee beechaar.
The faces of the Gurmukhs are radiant and bright; they reflect on the Word of the Guru’s Shabad.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
हलति पलति सुखु पाइदे जपि जपि रिदै मुरारि ॥
Halaṫ palaṫ sukʰ paa▫iḋé jap jap riḋæ muraar.
They obtain peace in this world and the next, chanting and meditating within their hearts on the Lord.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
घर ही विचि महलु पाइआ गुर सबदी वीचारि ॥२॥
Gʰar hee vich mahal paa▫i▫aa gur sabḋee veechaar. ||2||
Within the home of their own inner being, they obtain the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence, reflecting on the Guru’s Shabad. ||2||

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰਹਿ ਮਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਲੇ ॥
सतगुर ते जो मुह फेरहि मथे तिन काले ॥
Saṫgur ṫé jo muh férėh maṫʰé ṫin kaalé.
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru shall have their faces blackened.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਹੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥
अनदिनु दुख कमावदे नित जोहे जम जाले ॥
An▫ḋin ḋukʰ kamaavḋé niṫ johé jam jaalé.
Night and day, they suffer with pain; they see the noose of Death always hovering above them.

ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
सुपनै सुखु न देखनी बहु चिंता परजाले ॥३॥
Supnæ sukʰ na ḋékʰnee baho chinṫaa parjaalé. ||3||
Even in their dreams, they find no peace; they are consumed by the fires of intense anxiety. ||3||
|
ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
सभना का दाता एकु है आपे बखस करेइ ॥
Sabʰnaa kaa ḋaaṫaa ék hæ aapé bakʰas karé▫i.
The One Lord is the Giver of all; He Himself bestows all blessings.

ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
कहणा किछू न जावई जिसु भावै तिसु देइ ॥
Kahṇaa kichʰoo na jaav▫ee jis bʰaavæ ṫis ḋé▫é.
No one else has any say in this; He gives just as He pleases.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि पाईऐ आपे जाणै सोइ ॥४॥९॥४२॥
Naanak gurmukʰ paa▫ee▫æ aapé jaaṇæ so▫é. ||4||9||42||
O Nanak! The Gurmukhs obtain Him; He Himself knows Himself. ||4||9||42||

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥
सचा साहिबु सेवीऐ सचु वडिआई देइ ॥
Sachaa saahib sévee▫æ sach vadi▫aa▫ee ḋé▫é.
Serve your True Lord and Master, and you shall be blessed with true greatness.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
गुर परसादी मनि वसै हउमै दूरि करेइ ॥
Gur parsaadee man vasæ ha▫umæ ḋoor karé▫i.
By Guru’s Grace, He abides in the mind, and egotism is driven out.

ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਤਾ ਰਹੈ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
इहु मनु धावतु ता रहै जा आपे नदरि करेइ ॥१॥
Ih man ḋʰaavaṫ ṫaa rahæ jaa aapé naḋar karé▫i. ||1||
This wandering mind comes to rest, when the Lord casts His Glance of Grace. ||1||

ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
भाई रे गुरमुखि हरि नामु धिआइ ॥
Bʰaa▫ee ré gurmukʰ har naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é.
O Siblings of Destiny, become Gurmukh, and meditate on the Name of the Lord.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामु निधानु सद मनि वसै महली पावै थाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naam niḋʰaan saḋ man vasæ mahlee paavæ ṫʰaa▫o. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
The Treasure of the Naam abides forever within the mind, and one’s place of rest is found in the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence. ||1||Pause||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਨਉ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
मनमुख मनु तनु अंधु है तिस नउ ठउर न ठाउ ॥
Manmukʰ man ṫan anḋʰ hæ ṫis na▫o tʰa▫ur na tʰaa▫o.
The minds and bodies of the self-willed Manmukhs are filled with darkness; they find no shelter, no place of rest.

ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਉਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈਂ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥
बहु जोनी भउदा फिरै जिउ सुंञैं घरि काउ ॥
Baho jonee bʰa▫uḋaa firæ ji▫o suñæⁿ gʰar kaa▫o.
Through countless incarnations they wander lost, like crows in a deserted house.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
गुरमती घटि चानणा सबदि मिलै हरि नाउ ॥२॥
Gurmaṫee gʰat chaanṇaa sabaḋ milæ har naa▫o. ||2||
Through the Guru’s Teachings, the heart is illuminated. Through the Shabad, the Name of the Lord is received. ||2||

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥
त्रै गुण बिखिआ अंधु है माइआ मोह गुबार ॥
Ṫaræ guṇ bikʰi▫aa anḋʰ hæ maa▫i▫aa moh gubaar.
In the corruption of the three qualities, there is blindness; in attachment to Maya, there is darkness.

ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਪੜਿ ਵੇਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
लोभी अन कउ सेवदे पड़ि वेदा करै पूकार ॥
Lobʰee an ka▫o sévḋé paṛ véḋaa karæ pookaar.
The greedy people serve others, instead of the Lord, although they loudly announce their reading of scriptures.

ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
बिखिआ अंदरि पचि मुए ना उरवारु न पारु ॥३॥
Bikʰi▫aa anḋar pach mu▫é naa urvaar na paar. ||3||
They are burnt to death by their own corruption; they are not at home, on either this shore or the one beyond. ||3||
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
माइआ मोहि विसारिआ जगत पिता प्रतिपालि ॥
Maa▫i▫aa mohi visaari▫aa jagaṫ piṫaa parṫipaal.
In attachment to Maya, they have forgotten the Father, the Cherisher of the World.

ਬਾਝਹੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਬਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
बाझहु गुरू अचेतु है सभ बधी जमकालि ॥
Baajʰahu guroo achéṫ hæ sabʰ baḋʰee jamkaal.
Without the Guru, all are unconscious; they are held in bondage by the Messenger of Death.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੩॥
नानक गुरमति उबरे सचा नामु समालि ॥४॥१०॥४३॥
Naanak gurmaṫ ubré sachaa naam samaal. ||4||10||43||
O Nanak! Through the Guru’s Teachings, you shall be saved, contemplating the True Name. ||4||10||43||

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਉਥਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
त्रै गुण माइआ मोहु है गुरमुखि चउथा पदु पाइ ॥
Ṫaræ guṇ maa▫i▫aa moh hæ gurmukʰ cha▫uṫʰaa paḋ paa▫é.
The three qualities hold people in attachment to Maya. The Gurmukh attains the fourth state of higher consciousness.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
करि किरपा मेलाइअनु हरि नामु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥
Kar kirpaa mélaa▫i▫an har naam vasi▫aa man aa▫é.
Granting His Grace, God unites us with Himself. The Name of the Lord comes to abide within the mind.

ਪੋਤੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
पोतै जिन कै पुंनु है तिन सतसंगति मेलाइ ॥१॥
Poṫæ jin kæ punn hæ ṫin saṫsangaṫ mélaa▫é. ||1||
Those who have the treasure of goodness join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation. ||1||
|
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भाई रे गुरमति साचि रहाउ ॥
Bʰaa▫ee ré gurmaṫ saach rahaa▫o.
O Siblings of Destiny, follow the Guru’s Teachings and dwell in truth.

ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साचो साचु कमावणा साचै सबदि मिलाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saacho saach kamaavaṇaa saachæ sabaḋ milaa▫o. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Practice truth, and only truth, and merge in the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||

ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
जिनी नामु पछाणिआ तिन विटहु बलि जाउ ॥
Jinee naam pachʰaaṇi▫aa ṫin vitahu bal jaa▫o.
I am a sacrifice to those who recognize the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਾ ਚਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
आपु छोडि चरणी लगा चला तिन कै भाइ ॥
Aap chʰod charṇee lagaa chalaa ṫin kæ bʰaa▫é.
Renouncing selfishness, I fall at their feet, and walk in harmony with His Will.
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
लाहा हरि हरि नामु मिलै सहजे नामि समाइ ॥२॥
Laahaa har har naam milæ sėhjé naam samaa▫é. ||2||
Earning the Profit of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, I am intuitively absorbed in the Naam. ||2||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
बिनु गुर महलु न पाईऐ नामु न परापति होइ ॥
Bin gur mahal na paa▫ee▫æ naam na paraapaṫ ho▫é.
Without the Guru, the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence is not found, and the Naam is not obtained.

ਐਸਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
ऐसा सतगुरु लोड़ि लहु जिदू पाईऐ सचु सोइ ॥
Æsaa saṫgur loṛ lahu jiḋoo paa▫ee▫æ sach so▫é.
Seek and find such a True Guru, who shall lead you to the True Lord.

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
असुर संघारै सुखि वसै जो तिसु भावै सु होइ ॥३॥
Asur sangʰaaræ sukʰ vasæ jo ṫis bʰaavæ so ho▫é. ||3||
Destroy your evil passions, and you shall dwell in peace. Whatever pleases the Lord comes to pass. ||3||
|
ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
जेहा सतगुरु करि जाणिआ तेहो जेहा सुखु होइ ॥
Jéhaa saṫgur kar jaaṇi▫aa ṫého jéhaa sukʰ ho▫é.
As one knows the True Guru, so is the peace obtained.

ਏਹੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
एहु सहसा मूले नाही भाउ लाए जनु कोइ ॥
Éhu sahsaa moolé naahee bʰaa▫o laa▫é jan ko▫é.
There is no doubt at all about this, but those who love Him are very rare.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੪੪॥
नानक एक जोति दुइ मूरती सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥४॥११॥४४॥
Naanak ék joṫ ḋu▫é moorṫee sabaḋ milaavaa ho▫é. ||4||11||44||
O Nanak! The One Light has two forms; through the Shabad, union is attained. ||4||11||44||
