ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि जीउ सदा धिआइ तू गुरमुखि एकंकारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har jī▫o saḏā ḏẖi▫ā▫e ṯū gurmukẖ ekankār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Through the Guru do thou ever remember the venerable Lord, the Unique Being. Pause.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਾ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
गुरमुखा के मुख उजले गुर सबदी बीचारि ॥
Gurmukẖā ke mukẖ ujle gur sabḏī bīcẖār.
Bright are the faces of the Guru-beloved. They reflect over Guru's words.

ਹਲਤਿ ਪਲਤਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦੇ ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥
हलति पलति सुखु पाइदे जपि जपि रिदै मुरारि ॥
Halaṯ palaṯ sukẖ pā▫iḏe jap jap riḏai murār.
By pondering and deliberating over, in their mind, on God, the enemy of ego they obtain peace in this world and the next world.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
घर ही विचि महलु पाइआ गुर सबदी वीचारि ॥२॥
Gẖar hī vicẖ mahal pā▫i▫ā gur sabḏī vīcẖār. ||2||
In their own house they get to Lord's presence by reflecting on Guru's words.

ਸਤਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫੇਰਹਿ ਮਥੇ ਤਿਨ ਕਾਲੇ ॥
सतगुर ते जो मुह फेरहि मथे तिन काले ॥
Saṯgur ṯe jo muh ferėh mathe ṯin kāle.
Black become the brows of those who turn their faces away from the True Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਮਾਵਦੇ ਨਿਤ ਜੋਹੇ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੇ ॥
अनदिनु दुख कमावदे नित जोहे जम जाले ॥
An▫ḏin ḏukẖ kamāvḏe niṯ johe jam jāle.
By night and day, they do afflictive deeds, and death's noose ever spies them.
|
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਨੀ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਪਰਜਾਲੇ ॥੩॥
सुपनै सुखु न देखनी बहु चिंता परजाले ॥३॥
Supnai sukẖ na ḏekẖnī baho cẖinṯā parjāle. ||3||
Even in dream they perceive not pleasure and are wholly burnt by intense anxiety.

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾ ਏਕੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
सभना का दाता एकु है आपे बखस करेइ ॥
Sabẖnā kā ḏāṯā ek hai āpe bakẖas kare▫i.
One Lord's is the bestower of all. He Himself bestows bounties.
|
ਕਹਣਾ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਵਈ ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
कहणा किछू न जावई जिसु भावै तिसु देइ ॥
Kahṇā kicẖẖū na jāv▫ī jis bẖāvai ṯis ḏe▫e.
He gives unto him, whom He is pleased with. No one has any say in it.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੪॥੯॥੪੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि पाईऐ आपे जाणै सोइ ॥४॥९॥४२॥
Nānak gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai āpe jāṇai so▫e. ||4||9||42||
Nanak, god is obtained through the Guru. He Himself understands His ownself.

|
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਚੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਦੇਇ ॥
सचा साहिबु सेवीऐ सचु वडिआई देइ ॥
Sacẖā sāhib sevī▫ai sacẖ vadi▫ā▫ī ḏe▫e.
Serve the True Lord, who will grant thee true greatness.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੂਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
गुर परसादी मनि वसै हउमै दूरि करेइ ॥
Gur parsādī man vasai ha▫umai ḏūr kare▫i.
By Guru's grace, God abides within man's mind and drives away his pride.
|
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਾਵਤੁ ਤਾ ਰਹੈ ਜਾ ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥੧॥
इहु मनु धावतु ता रहै जा आपे नदरि करेइ ॥१॥
Ih man ḏẖāvaṯ ṯā rahai jā āpe naḏar kare▫i. ||1||
When the Lord Himself casts His merciful glance, then alone is this fleeting mind restrained.
|
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
भाई रे गुरमुखि हरि नामु धिआइ ॥
Bẖā▫ī re gurmukẖ har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e.
O Brother! through the Guru meditate on Lord's Name.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਦ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਹਲੀ ਪਾਵੈ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामु निधानु सद मनि वसै महली पावै थाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nām niḏẖān saḏ man vasai mahlī pāvai thā▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
When the Name treasure ever abides in man's mind he finds a place in Lord's palace. Pause.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਨਉ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
मनमुख मनु तनु अंधु है तिस नउ ठउर न ठाउ ॥
Manmukẖ man ṯan anḏẖ hai ṯis na▫o ṯẖa▫ur na ṯẖā▫o.
There is darkness within the mind and body of an apostate. He has neither shelter nor place of rest.

ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਭਉਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਜਿਉ ਸੁੰਞੈਂ ਘਰਿ ਕਾਉ ॥
बहु जोनी भउदा फिरै जिउ सुंञैं घरि काउ ॥
Baho jonī bẖa▫uḏā firai ji▫o suñaiʼn gẖar kā▫o.
He continues roaming about, in many existences, like a crow in a deserted house.
|
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਘਟਿ ਚਾਨਣਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥੨॥
गुरमती घटि चानणा सबदि मिलै हरि नाउ ॥२॥
Gurmaṯī gẖat cẖānṇā sabaḏ milai har nā▫o. ||2||
By Guru's teaching Divine Light shines in the heart and by his word God's Name is gained.
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਧੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥
त्रै गुण बिखिआ अंधु है माइआ मोह गुबार ॥
Ŧarai guṇ bikẖi▫ā anḏẖ hai mā▫i▫ā moh gubār.
Thou art blinded by the wickedness of three dispositions and the darkness of the attachment of wealth.
|
ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਪੜਿ ਵੇਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਪੂਕਾਰ ॥
लोभी अन कउ सेवदे पड़ि वेदा करै पूकार ॥
Lobẖī an ka▫o sevḏe paṛ veḏā karai pūkār.
The men of avarice serve others, even though they advertise their study of Vedas.
|
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
बिखिआ अंदरि पचि मुए ना उरवारु न पारु ॥३॥
Bikẖi▫ā anḏar pacẖ mu▫e nā urvār na pār. ||3||
In sin they are burnt down to death. They are neither on this shore nor on the yonder.
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥
माइआ मोहि विसारिआ जगत पिता प्रतिपालि ॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohi visāri▫ā jagaṯ piṯā parṯipāl.
In the love of wealth they have forgotten the Father of the World. the Cherisher.

ਬਾਝਹੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਅਚੇਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਬਧੀ ਜਮਕਾਲਿ ॥
बाझहु गुरू अचेतु है सभ बधी जमकालि ॥
Bājẖahu gurū acẖeṯ hai sabẖ baḏẖī jamkāl.
Without the Guru, all the mortals are unmindful and are in the bondage of the myrmidon of death.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੪੩॥
नानक गुरमति उबरे सचा नामु समालि ॥४॥१०॥४३॥
Nānak gurmaṯ ubre sacẖā nām samāl. ||4||10||43||
O Nanak! by pondering on the True Name, under Guru's instruction, thou art saved.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਉਥਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
त्रै गुण माइआ मोहु है गुरमुखि चउथा पदु पाइ ॥
Ŧarai guṇ mā▫i▫ā moh hai gurmukẖ cẖa▫uthā paḏ pā▫e.
In the three temperaments is the attachment of wealth. The Guru-beloved attains to the fourth state of celestial beatitude.

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਮੇਲਾਇਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
करि किरपा मेलाइअनु हरि नामु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥
Kar kirpā melā▫i▫an har nām vasi▫ā man ā▫e.
The Lord mercifully unites with Himself those, within whose mind God's Name enters and acquires an abode.
|
ਪੋਤੈ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਨ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
पोतै जिन कै पुंनु है तिन सतसंगति मेलाइ ॥१॥
Poṯai jin kai punn hai ṯin saṯsangaṯ melā▫e. ||1||
They in whose treasure is benevolence, them the Lord unites with saints congregation.
|
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भाई रे गुरमति साचि रहाउ ॥
Bẖā▫ī re gurmaṯ sācẖ rahā▫o.
O Brother! abide thou in Truth by guru's instructions.

ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਮਾਵਣਾ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साचो साचु कमावणा साचै सबदि मिलाउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sācẖo sācẖ kamāvaṇā sācẖai sabaḏ milā▫o. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Practise nothing but Truth and unite with the True Name. Pause.
|
ਜਿਨੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥
जिनी नामु पछाणिआ तिन विटहु बलि जाउ ॥
Jinī nām pacẖẖāṇi▫ā ṯin vitahu bal jā▫o.
I am a sacrifice unto those, who have recognised God's Name.
|
ਆਪੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਾ ਚਲਾ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
आपु छोडि चरणी लगा चला तिन कै भाइ ॥
Āp cẖẖod cẖarṇī lagā cẖalā ṯin kai bẖā▫e.
Having renounced my self conceit I fall at their feet and walk (act) in accordance with their-will.
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
लाहा हरि हरि नामु मिलै सहजे नामि समाइ ॥२॥
Lāhā har har nām milai sėhje nām samā▫e. ||2||
Reaping the profit of Lord God's Name, I shall thus be easily absorbed in Name.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
बिनु गुर महलु न पाईऐ नामु न परापति होइ ॥
Bin gur mahal na pā▫ī▫ai nām na parāpaṯ ho▫e.
Without the Guru, man obtains not God's mansion, nor does he attain to His Name.
|
ਐਸਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜਿਦੂ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
ऐसा सतगुरु लोड़ि लहु जिदू पाईऐ सचु सोइ ॥
Aisā saṯgur loṛ lahu jiḏū pā▫ī▫ai sacẖ so▫e.
Search for and obtain such True Guru through whom mayest gain that True Lord.

ਅਸੁਰ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਸੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥
असुर संघारै सुखि वसै जो तिसु भावै सु होइ ॥३॥
Asur sangẖārai sukẖ vasai jo ṯis bẖāvai so ho▫e. ||3||
He, who slays his evil passion abides in peace. What ever pleases Him that comes to pass.
|
ਜੇਹਾ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਤੇਹੋ ਜੇਹਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
जेहा सतगुरु करि जाणिआ तेहो जेहा सुखु होइ ॥
Jehā saṯgur kar jāṇi▫ā ṯeho jehā sukẖ ho▫e.
As is the intensity of belief in the True Guru, so is the comfort, the mortal obtains.
|
ਏਹੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਮੂਲੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਉ ਲਾਏ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
एहु सहसा मूले नाही भाउ लाए जनु कोइ ॥
Ėhu sahsā mūle nāhī bẖā▫o lā▫e jan ko▫e.
There is absolutely no doubt in this, but only a rare person embraces love for the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕ ਜੋਤਿ ਦੁਇ ਮੂਰਤੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੪੪॥
नानक एक जोति दुइ मूरती सबदि मिलावा होइ ॥४॥११॥४४॥
Nānak ek joṯ ḏu▫e mūrṯī sabaḏ milāvā ho▫e. ||4||11||44||
Nanak, God and the Guru have two forms but they have the same one Light. It is by the word that mortal attains to the union with God.1
