ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਤਰਸਦੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਇ ॥
लख चउरासीह तरसदे जिसु मेले सो मिलै हरि आइ ॥
Lakʰ cha▫oraaseeh ṫarasḋé jis mélé so milæ har aa▫é.
Eighty-four lakhs (species of lives) long for the Lord. He whom (God) unites comes and blends (with Him).

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੯॥
नानक गुरमुखि हरि पाइआ सदा हरि नामि समाइ ॥४॥६॥३९॥
Naanak gurmukʰ har paa▫i▫aa saḋaa har naam samaa▫é. ||4||6||39||
Through the Guru, Nanak has obtained God and he ever remains absorbed in God’s Name.

ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
सुख सागरु हरि नामु है गुरमुखि पाइआ जाइ ॥
Sukʰ saagar har naam hæ gurmukʰ paa▫i▫aa jaa▫é.
An ocean of peace is the Name of God. By Guru’s grace it is procured.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਹਜੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
अनदिनु नामु धिआईऐ सहजे नामि समाइ ॥
An▫ḋin naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ sėhjé naam samaa▫é.
By repeating Lord’s Name, night and day, the mortal easily gets absorbed in the Name.

ਅੰਦਰੁ ਰਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਸਚ ਸਿਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥੧॥
अंदरु रचै हरि सच सिउ रसना हरि गुण गाइ ॥१॥
Anḋar rachæ har sach si▫o rasnaa har guṇ gaa▫é. ||1||
His mind is amalgamated with True God, and (his) tongue sings God’s Praises.
|
ਭਾਈ ਰੇ ਜਗੁ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
भाई रे जगु दुखीआ दूजै भाइ ॥
Bʰaa▫ee ré jag ḋukʰee▫aa ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é.
O Brother! being engrossed in duality, the world is in misery.

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर सरणाई सुखु लहहि अनदिनु नामु धिआइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur sarṇaa▫ee sukʰ lahėh an▫ḋin naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
By seeking the sanctuary of the Guru, and by night and day remembering the name obtain peace. Pause.

ਸਾਚੇ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗਈ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
साचे मैलु न लागई मनु निरमलु हरि धिआइ ॥
Saaché mæl na laag▫ee man nirmal har ḋʰi▫aa▫é.
No filth attaches to the true person and with pure mind he meditates on God.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखि सबदु पछाणीऐ हरि अमृत नामि समाइ ॥
Gurmukʰ sabaḋ pachʰaaṇee▫æ har amriṫ naam samaa▫é.
Through the Guru, realise the Lord and be absorbed in the ambrosial Name of God.

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡੁ ਬਲਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
गुर गिआनु प्रचंडु बलाइआ अगिआनु अंधेरा जाइ ॥२॥
Gur gi▫aan parchand balaa▫i▫aa agi▫aan anḋʰéraa jaa▫é. ||2||
The Guru has ignited the bright light of Divine knowledge where with the darkness of ignorance is dispelled.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੈਲੇ ਮਲੁ ਭਰੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
मनमुख मैले मलु भरे हउमै त्रिसना विकारु ॥
Manmukʰ mælé mal bʰaré ha▫umæ ṫarisnaa vikaar.
The self-willed are impure, and are brimful with the pollution of sin of pride and desire.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
बिनु सबदै मैलु न उतरै मरि जंमहि होइ खुआरु ॥
Bin sabḋæ mæl na uṫræ mar jamėh ho▫é kʰu▫aar.
Without God’s Name pollution is not washed off and in birth and death the mortal becomes miserable.

ਧਾਤੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਲਚਿ ਰਹੇ ਨਾ ਉਰਵਾਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
धातुर बाजी पलचि रहे ना उरवारु न पारु ॥३॥
Ḋʰaaṫur baajee palach rahé naa urvaar na paar. ||3||
They, who are engrossed in the short-lived play, are of avail neither in this world nor in the next one.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि जप तप संजमी हरि कै नामि पिआरु ॥
Gurmukʰ jap ṫap sanjmee har kæ naam pi▫aar.
The love of God’s Name is the worship penance and self-mortification of the Guru-beloved.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि सदा धिआईऐ एकु नामु करतारु ॥
Gurmukʰ saḋaa ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ ék naam karṫaar.
The Guru-beloved ever meditates on the Name of the One, the Creator.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਭਨਾ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥੪੦॥
नानक नामु धिआईऐ सभना जीआ का आधारु ॥४॥७॥४०॥
Naanak naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ sabʰnaa jee▫aa kaa aaḋʰaar. ||4||7||40||
Nanak, contemplate over the Name of the Lord, who is the support of all the beings.

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਉਦਾਸੀ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
मनमुखु मोहि विआपिआ बैरागु उदासी न होइ ॥
Manmukʰ mohi vi▫aapi▫aa bæraag uḋaasee na ho▫é.
The perverse person is engrossed in worldly love and embraces not Lord’s love and world-detachment.

ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਇ ॥
सबदु न चीनै सदा दुखु हरि दरगहि पति खोइ ॥
Sabaḋ na cheenæ saḋaa ḋukʰ har ḋargahi paṫ kʰo▫é.
He comprehends not Lord’s Name, ever suffers pain and loses honour in God’s Court.

ਹਉਮੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਖੋਈਐ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
हउमै गुरमुखि खोईऐ नामि रते सुखु होइ ॥१॥
Ha▫umæ gurmukʰ kʰo▫ee▫æ naam raṫé sukʰ ho▫é. ||1||
The pious shed their ego, are imbued with the Name and attain peace.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਨਿਤ ਆਸਾ ॥
मेरे मन अहिनिसि पूरि रही नित आसा ॥
Méré man ahinis poor rahee niṫ aasaa.
O my mind! Day and night, thou ever remainest brimful with desires.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਰਜਲੈ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ਉਦਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सतगुरु सेवि मोहु परजलै घर ही माहि उदासा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saṫgur sév moh parjalæ gʰar hee maahi uḋaasaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
By serving the True Guru, worldly attachment is completely burnt down and man remains detached in his home. Pause.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਹਰਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
गुरमुखि करम कमावै बिगसै हरि बैरागु अनंदु ॥
Gurmukʰ karam kamaavæ bigsæ har bæraag anand.
The Guru-ward does good deeds and blooms. God’s affection brings bliss.

ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਨਿਚੰਦੁ ॥
अहिनिसि भगति करे दिनु राती हउमै मारि निचंदु ॥
Ahinis bʰagaṫ karé ḋin raaṫee ha▫umæ maar nichanḋ.
Day and night he ever performs Lord’s service and stilling his self-conceit becomes care-free.
|
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥੨॥
वडै भागि सतसंगति पाई हरि पाइआ सहजि अनंदु ॥२॥
vadæ bʰaag saṫsangaṫ paa▫ee har paa▫i▫aa sahj anand. ||2||
By great good fortune I have met the society of saint and attuned to God the seat of eternal bliss.
|
ਸੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਸੋਈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
सो साधू बैरागी सोई हिरदै नामु वसाए ॥
So saaḋʰoo bæraagee so▫ee hirḋæ naam vasaa▫é.
He is the saint and he the world renouncer, who abides God’s Name in his heart.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ਨ ਤਾਮਸੁ ਮੂਲੇ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
अंतरि लागि न तामसु मूले विचहु आपु गवाए ॥
Anṫar laag na ṫaamas moolé vichahu aap gavaa▫é.
Anger touches not his core at all, as he has shed his self-conceit from within himself.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰੂ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਅਘਾਏ ॥੩॥
नामु निधानु सतगुरू दिखालिआ हरि रसु पीआ अघाए ॥३॥
Naam niḋʰaan saṫguroo ḋikʰaali▫aa har ras pee▫aa agʰaa▫é. ||3||
The Name treasure the True Guru has shown unto him and God’s Nectar he drinks to his fill.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤੀ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਬੈਰਾਗਿ ॥
जिनि किनै पाइआ साधसंगती पूरै भागि बैरागि ॥
Jin kinæ paa▫i▫aa saaḋʰsangṫee pooræ bʰaag bæraag.
Who-so-ever has found God, has found Him in the congregation of the righteous. Through the perfect good luck Lord’s love is obtained.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਲਾਗਿ ॥
मनमुख फिरहि न जाणहि सतगुरु हउमै अंदरि लागि ॥
Manmukʰ firėh na jaaṇėh saṫgur ha▫umæ anḋar laag.
Being inwardly attached with ego the perverse roam about and understand not the True Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਭੈ ਕੇਹੀ ਲਾਗਿ ॥੪॥੮॥੪੧॥
नानक सबदि रते हरि नामि रंगाए बिनु भै केही लागि ॥४॥८॥४१॥
Naanak sabaḋ raṫé har naam rangaa▫é bin bʰæ kéhee laag. ||4||8||41||
Nanak, they who are tinged with the word, get imbued in God’s Name. How can they be dyed without the mordant of Lord’s fear?

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸਉਦਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਭ ਵਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
घर ही सउदा पाईऐ अंतरि सभ वथु होइ ॥
Gʰar hee sa▫uḋaa paa▫ee▫æ anṫar sabʰ vaṫʰ ho▫é.
Within man are all the Goods. From within his home he can obtain the required merchandise.

ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
खिनु खिनु नामु समालीऐ गुरमुखि पावै कोइ ॥
Kʰin kʰin naam samaalee▫æ gurmukʰ paavæ ko▫é.
Every moment remember God’s Name. Hardly any one obtains it through the Guru.

ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਅਖੁਟੁ ਹੈ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥
नामु निधानु अखुटु है वडभागि परापति होइ ॥१॥
Naam niḋʰaan akʰut hæ vadbʰaag paraapaṫ ho▫é. ||1||
The treasure of the Name is inexhaustible, through the greatest good luck it is attained to.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਜਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
मेरे मन तजि निंदा हउमै अहंकारु ॥
Méré man ṫaj ninḋaa ha▫umæ ahaⁿkaar.
O my mind! Abandon slander, self-conceit and arrogance.
