ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਲੇਹੁ ਨ ਛੀਜੈ ਦੇਹ ॥
नित नित लेहु न छीजै देह ॥
Niṯ niṯ leho na cẖẖījai ḏeh.
Take it each and every day, and your body shall not waste away.
|
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਜਮੁ ਮਾਰੈ ਠੇਹ ॥੧॥
अंत कालि जमु मारै ठेह ॥१॥
Anṯ kāl jam mārai ṯẖeh. ||1||
At the very last instant, you shall strike down the Messenger of Death. ||1||
|
ਐਸਾ ਦਾਰੂ ਖਾਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
ऐसा दारू खाहि गवार ॥
Aisā ḏārū kẖāhi gavār.
So take such medicine, O fool,
|
ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਤੇਰੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जितु खाधै तेरे जाहि विकार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jiṯ kẖāḏẖai ṯere jāhi vikār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
by which your corruption shall be taken away. ||1||Pause||
|
ਰਾਜੁ ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਂਵ ॥
राजु मालु जोबनु सभु छांव ॥
Rāj māl joban sabẖ cẖẖāʼnv.
Power, wealth and youth are all just shadows,
|
ਰਥਿ ਫਿਰੰਦੈ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਥਾਵ ॥
रथि फिरंदै दीसहि थाव ॥
Rath firanḏai ḏīsėh thāv.
as are the vehicles you see moving around.
|
ਦੇਹ ਨ ਨਾਉ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਾਤਿ ॥
देह न नाउ न होवै जाति ॥
Ḏeh na nā▫o na hovai jāṯ.
Neither your body, nor your fame, nor your social status shall go along with you.
|
ਓਥੈ ਦਿਹੁ ਐਥੈ ਸਭ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੨॥
ओथै दिहु ऐथै सभ राति ॥२॥
Othai ḏihu aithai sabẖ rāṯ. ||2||
In the next world it is day, while here, it is all night. ||2||
|
ਸਾਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਮਧਾਂ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਘਿਉ ਤੇਲੁ ॥
साद करि समधां त्रिसना घिउ तेलु ॥
Sāḏ kar samḏẖāʼn ṯarisnā gẖi▫o ṯel.
Let your taste for pleasures be the firewood, let your greed be the ghee,
|
ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਗਨੀ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਲੁ ॥
कामु क्रोधु अगनी सिउ मेलु ॥
Kām kroḏẖ agnī si▫o mel.
and your sexual desire and anger the cooking oil; burn them in the fire.
|
ਹੋਮ ਜਗ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ॥
होम जग अरु पाठ पुराण ॥
Hom jag ar pāṯẖ purāṇ.
Some make burnt offerings, hold sacred feasts, and read the Puraanas.
|
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣ ॥੩॥
जो तिसु भावै सो परवाण ॥३॥
Jo ṯis bẖāvai so parvāṇ. ||3||
Whatever pleases God is acceptable. ||3||
|
ਤਪੁ ਕਾਗਦੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨੀਸਾਨੁ ॥
तपु कागदु तेरा नामु नीसानु ॥
Ŧap kāgaḏ ṯerā nām nīsān.
Intense meditation is the paper, and Your Name is the insignia.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਏਹੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥
जिन कउ लिखिआ एहु निधानु ॥
Jin ka▫o likẖi▫ā ehu niḏẖān.
Those for whom this treasure is ordered,
|
ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤ ਦਿਸਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
से धनवंत दिसहि घरि जाइ ॥
Se ḏẖanvanṯ ḏisėh gẖar jā▫e.
look wealthy when they reach their true home.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਨੀ ਧੰਨੀ ਮਾਇ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥
नानक जननी धंनी माइ ॥४॥३॥८॥
Nānak jannī ḏẖannī mā▫e. ||4||3||8||
O Nanak, blessed is that mother who gave birth to them. ||4||3||8||

ਬਾਗੇ ਕਾਪੜ ਬੋਲੈ ਬੈਣ ॥
बागे कापड़ बोलै बैण ॥
Bāge kāpaṛ bolai baiṇ.
You wear white clothes, and speak sweet words.
|
ਲੰਮਾ ਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੈਣ ॥
लमा नकु काले तेरे नैण ॥
Lammā nak kāle ṯere naiṇ.
Your nose is sharp, and your eyes are black.
|
ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਭੈਣ ॥੧॥
कबहूं साहिबु देखिआ भैण ॥१॥
Kabahūʼn sāhib ḏekẖi▫ā bẖaiṇ. ||1||
Have you ever seen your Lord and Master, O sister? ||1||
|
ਊਡਾਂ ਊਡਿ ਚੜਾਂ ਅਸਮਾਨਿ ॥
ऊडां ऊडि चड़ां असमानि ॥
Ūdāʼn ūd cẖaṛāʼn asmān.
I fly and soar, and ascend to the heavens.
|
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਤੇਰੈ ਤਾਣਿ ॥
साहिब सम्रिथ तेरै ताणि ॥
Sāhib sammrith ṯerai ṯāṇ.
by Your power, O my All-powerful Lord and Master.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਡੂੰਗਰਿ ਦੇਖਾਂ ਤੀਰ ॥
जलि थलि डूंगरि देखां तीर ॥
Jal thal dūngar ḏekẖāʼn ṯīr.
I see Him in the water, on the land, in the mountains, on the river-banks,
|
ਥਾਨ ਥਨੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਬੀਰ ॥੨॥
थान थनंतरि साहिबु बीर ॥२॥
Thān thananṯar sāhib bīr. ||2||
in all places and interspaces, O brother. ||2||
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਤਨੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਦੀਏ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੰਭ ॥
जिनि तनु साजि दीए नालि ख्मभ ॥
Jin ṯan sāj ḏī▫e nāl kẖanbẖ.
He fashioned the body, and gave it wings;
|
ਅਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਉਡਣੈ ਕੀ ਡੰਝ ॥
अति त्रिसना उडणै की डंझ ॥
Aṯ ṯarisnā udṇai kī danjẖ.
He gave it great thirst and desire to fly.
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਾਂ ਬੰਧਾਂ ਧੀਰ ॥
नदरि करे तां बंधां धीर ॥
Naḏar kare ṯāʼn banḏẖāʼn ḏẖīr.
When He bestows His Glance of Grace, I am comforted and consoled.
|
ਜਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਲੇ ਤਿਉ ਵੇਖਾਂ ਬੀਰ ॥੩॥
जिउ वेखाले तिउ वेखां बीर ॥३॥
Ji▫o vekẖāle ṯi▫o vekẖāʼn bīr. ||3||
As He makes me see, so do I see, O brother. ||3||
|
ਨ ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਜਾਇਗਾ ਨ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਖੰਭ ॥
न इहु तनु जाइगा न जाहिगे ख्मभ ॥
Na ih ṯan jā▫igā na jāhige kẖanbẖ.
Neither this body, nor its wings, shall go to the world hereafter.
|
ਪਉਣੈ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧ ॥
पउणै पाणी अगनी का सनबंध ॥
Pa▫uṇai pāṇī agnī kā san▫banḏẖ.
It is a fusion of air, water and fire.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਜਪੀਐ ਕਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੀਰੁ ॥
नानक करमु होवै जपीऐ करि गुरु पीरु ॥
Nānak karam hovai japī▫ai kar gur pīr.
O Nanak, if it is in the mortal's karma, then he meditates on the Lord, with the Guru as his Spiritual Teacher.

ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਏਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
सचि समावै एहु सरीरु ॥४॥४॥९॥
Sacẖ samāvai ehu sarīr. ||4||4||9||
This body is absorbed in the Truth. ||4||4||9||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਆਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
निरंकारु आकारु है आपे आपे भरमि भुलाए ॥
Nirankār ākār hai āpe āpe bẖaram bẖulā▫e.
The Formless Lord is formed by Himself. He Himself deludes in doubt.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਤੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥
करि करि करता आपे वेखै जितु भावै तितु लाए ॥
Kar kar karṯā āpe vekẖai jiṯ bẖāvai ṯiṯ lā▫e.
Creating the Creation, the Creator Himself beholds it; He enjoins us as He pleases.

ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਏਹਾ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮਨਾਏ ॥੧॥
सेवक कउ एहा वडिआई जा कउ हुकमु मनाए ॥१॥
Sevak ka▫o ehā vadi▫ā▫ī jā ka▫o hukam manā▫e. ||1||
This is the true greatness of His servant, that he obeys the Hukam of the Lord's Command. ||1||

ਆਪਣਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਲਹੀਐ ॥
आपणा भाणा आपे जाणै गुर किरपा ते लहीऐ ॥
Āpṇā bẖāṇā āpe jāṇai gur kirpā ṯe lahī▫ai.
Only He Himself knows His Will. By Guru's Grace, it is grasped.

ਏਹਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸਿਵੈ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਜੀਵਦਿਆ ਮਰਿ ਰਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
एहा सकति सिवै घरि आवै जीवदिआ मरि रहीऐ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ėhā sakaṯ sivai gẖar āvai jīvḏi▫ā mar rahī▫ai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
When this play of Shiva and Shakti comes to his home, he remains dead while yet alive. ||1||Pause||

ਵੇਦ ਪੜੈ ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥
वेद पड़ै पड़ि वादु वखाणै ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसा ॥
veḏ paṛai paṛ vāḏ vakẖāṇai barahmā bisan mahesā.
They read the Vedas, and read them again, and engage in arguments about Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

ਏਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਹਸਾ ॥
एह त्रिगुण माइआ जिनि जगतु भुलाइआ जनम मरण का सहसा ॥
Ėh ṯariguṇ mā▫i▫ā jin jagaṯ bẖulā▫i▫ā janam maraṇ kā sahsā.
This three-phased Maya has deluded the whole world into cynicism about death and birth.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਮਨਹੁ ਅੰਦੇਸਾ ॥੨॥
गुर परसादी एको जाणै चूकै मनहु अंदेसा ॥२॥
Gur parsādī eko jāṇai cẖūkai manhu anḏesā. ||2||
By Guru's Grace, know the One Lord, and the anxiety of your mind will be allayed. ||2||
|
ਹਮ ਦੀਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
हम दीन मूरख अवीचारी तुम चिंता करहु हमारी ॥
Ham ḏīn mūrakẖ avīcẖārī ṯum cẖinṯā karahu hamārī.
I am meek, foolish and thoughtless, but still, You take care of me.
|
ਹੋਹੁ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਿ ਦਾਸੁ ਦਾਸਾ ਕਾ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰੀ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
होहु दइआल करि दासु दासा का सेवा करी तुमारी ॥
Hohu ḏa▫i▫āl kar ḏās ḏāsā kā sevā karī ṯumārī.
Please be kind to me, and make me the slave of Your slaves, so that I may serve You.

ਏਕੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਤੂ ਅਪਣਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
एकु निधानु देहि तू अपणा अहिनिसि नामु वखाणी ॥३॥
Ėk niḏẖān ḏėh ṯū apṇā ahinis nām vakẖāṇī. ||3||
Please bless me with the treasure of the One Name, that I may chant it, day and night. ||3||
|
ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
कहत नानकु गुर परसादी बूझहु कोई ऐसा करे वीचारा ॥
Kahaṯ Nānak gur parsādī būjẖhu ko▫ī aisā kare vīcẖārā.
Says Nanak, by Guru's Grace, understand. Hardly anyone considers this.

ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਊਪਰਿ ਫੇਨੁ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਤੈਸਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
जिउ जल ऊपरि फेनु बुदबुदा तैसा इहु संसारा ॥
Ji▫o jal ūpar fen buḏbuḏā ṯaisā ih sansārā.
Like foam bubbling up on the surface of the water, so is this world.
