ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुर सबदु बीचारहि आपु जाइ ॥
Gur sabaḏ bīcẖārėh āp jā▫e.
Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and be rid of your ego.

ਸਾਚ ਜੋਗੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੮॥
साच जोगु मनि वसै आइ ॥८॥
Sācẖ jog man vasai ā▫e. ||8||
True Yoga shall come to dwell in your mind. ||8||
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦਿਤਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
जिनि जीउ पिंडु दिता तिसु चेतहि नाहि ॥
Jin jī▫o pind ḏiṯā ṯis cẖīṯėh nāhi.
He blessed you with body and soul, but you do not even think of Him.

ਮੜੀ ਮਸਾਣੀ ਮੂੜੇ ਜੋਗੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੯॥
मड़ी मसाणी मूड़े जोगु नाहि ॥९॥
Maṛī masāṇī mūṛe jog nāhi. ||9||
You fool! Visiting graves and cremation grounds is not Yoga. ||9||
|
ਗੁਣ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬੋਲੈ ਭਲੀ ਬਾਣਿ ॥
गुण नानकु बोलै भली बाणि ॥
Guṇ Nānak bolai bẖalī bāṇ.
Nanak chants the sublime, glorious Bani of the Word.

ਤੁਮ ਹੋਹੁ ਸੁਜਾਖੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ॥੧੦॥੫॥
तुम होहु सुजाखे लेहु पछाणि ॥१०॥५॥
Ŧum hohu sujākẖe leho pacẖẖāṇ. ||10||5||
Understand it, and appreciate it. ||10||5||

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
दुबिधा दुरमति अधुली कार ॥
Ḏubiḏẖā ḏurmaṯ aḏẖulī kār.
In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
मनमुखि भरमै मझि गुबार ॥१॥
Manmukẖ bẖarmai majẖ gubār. ||1||
The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
|
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
मनु अंधुला अंधुली मति लागै ॥
Man anḏẖulā anḏẖulī maṯ lāgai.
The blind man follows blind advice.

ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर करणी बिनु भरमु न भागै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur karṇī bin bẖaram na bẖāgai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
मनमुखि अंधुले गुरमति न भाई ॥
Manmukẖ anḏẖule gurmaṯ na bẖā▫ī.
The manmukh is blind; he does not like the Guru's Teachings.

ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
पसू भए अभिमानु न जाई ॥२॥
Pasū bẖa▫e abẖimān na jā▫ī. ||2||
He has become a beast; he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2||
|
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
लख चउरासीह जंत उपाए ॥
Lakẖ cẖa▫orāsīh janṯ upā▫e.
God created 8.4 million species of beings.
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
मेरे ठाकुर भाणे सिरजि समाए ॥३॥
Mere ṯẖākur bẖāṇe siraj samā▫e. ||3||
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
|
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
सगली भूलै नही सबदु अचारु ॥
Saglī bẖūlai nahī sabaḏ acẖār.
All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct.
|
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
सो समझै जिसु गुरु करतारु ॥४॥
So samjẖai jis gur karṯār. ||4||
He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
गुर के चाकर ठाकुर भाणे ॥
Gur ke cẖākar ṯẖākur bẖāṇe.
The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master.
|
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
बखसि लीए नाही जम काणे ॥५॥
Bakẖas lī▫e nāhī jam kāṇe. ||5||
The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5||
|
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
जिन कै हिरदै एको भाइआ ॥
Jin kai hirḏai eko bẖā▫i▫ā.
Those who love the One Lord with all their heart-
|
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
आपे मेले भरमु चुकाइआ ॥६॥
Āpe mele bẖaram cẖukā▫i▫ā. ||6||
He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
|
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
बेमुहताजु बेअंतु अपारा ॥
Bemuhṯāj be▫anṯ apārā.
God is Independent, Endless and Infinite.
|
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
सचि पतीजै करणैहारा ॥७॥
Sacẖ paṯījai karnaihārā. ||7||
The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7||
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
नानक भूले गुरु समझावै ॥
Nānak bẖūle gur samjẖāvai.
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul.
|
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
एकु दिखावै साचि टिकावै ॥८॥६॥
Ėk ḏikẖāvai sācẖ tikāvai. ||8||6||
He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6||

ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
बसंतु महला १ ॥
Basanṯ mėhlā 1.
Basant, First Mehl:

ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥
आपे भवरा फूल बेलि ॥
Āpe bẖavrā fūl bel.
He Himself is the bumble bee, the fruit and the vine.
|
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
आपे संगति मीत मेलि ॥१॥
Āpe sangaṯ mīṯ mel. ||1||
He Himself unites us with the Sangat - the Congregation, and the Guru, our Best Friend. ||1||
|
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥
ऐसी भवरा बासु ले ॥
Aisī bẖavrā bās le.
O bumble bee, suck in that fragrance,
|
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तरवर फूले बन हरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧarvar fūle ban hare. ||1|| rahā▫o.
which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause||
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
आपे कवला कंतु आपि ॥
Āpe kavlā kanṯ āp.
He Himself is Lakshmi, and He Himself is her husband.
|
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥
आपे रावे सबदि थापि ॥२॥
Āpe rāve sabaḏ thāp. ||2||
He established the world by Word of His Shabad, and He Himself ravishes it. ||2||
|
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
आपे बछरू गऊ खीरु ॥
Āpe bacẖẖrū ga▫ū kẖīr.
He Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk.
|
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮ੍ਹ੍ਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥
आपे मंदरु थम्हु सरीरु ॥३॥
Āpe manḏar thamh sarīr. ||3||
He Himself is the Support of the body-mansion. ||3||
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
आपे करणी करणहारु ॥
Āpe karṇī karanhār.
He Himself is the Deed, and He Himself is the Doer.
|
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
आपे गुरमुखि करि बीचारु ॥४॥
Āpe gurmukẖ kar bīcẖār. ||4||
As Gurmukh, He contemplates Himself. ||4||
|
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
तू करि करि देखहि करणहारु ॥
Ŧū kar kar ḏekẖėh karanhār.
You create the creation, and gaze upon it, O Creator Lord.
|
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
जोति जीअ असंख देइ अधारु ॥५॥
Joṯ jī▫a asaʼnkẖ ḏe▫e aḏẖār. ||5||
You give Your Support to the uncounted beings and creatures. ||5||
|
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
तू सरु सागरु गुण गहीरु ॥
Ŧū sar sāgar guṇ gahīr.
You are the Profound, Unfathomable Ocean of Virtue.
|
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥
तू अकुल निरंजनु परम हीरु ॥६॥
Ŧū akul niranjan param hīr. ||6||
You are the Unknowable, the Immaculate, the most Sublime Jewel. ||6||
|
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
तू आपे करता करण जोगु ॥
Ŧū āpe karṯā karaṇ jog.
You Yourself are the Creator, with the Potency to create.
|
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥
निहकेवलु राजन सुखी लोगु ॥७॥
Nihkeval rājan sukẖī log. ||7||
You are the Independent Ruler, whose people are at peace. ||7||
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥
नानक ध्रापे हरि नाम सुआदि ॥
Nānak ḏẖarāpe har nām su▫āḏ.
Nanak is satisfied with the subtle taste of the Lord's Name.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥
बिनु हरि गुर प्रीतम जनमु बादि ॥८॥७॥
Bin har gur parīṯam janam bāḏ. ||8||7||
Without the Beloved Lord and Master, life is meaningless. ||8||7||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥
नउ सत चउदह तीनि चारि करि महलति चारि बहाली ॥
Na▫o saṯ cẖa▫oḏah ṯīn cẖār kar mahlaṯ cẖār bahālī.
The nine regions, the seven continents, the fourteen worlds, the three qualities and the four ages - You established them all through the four sources of creation, and You seated them in Your mansions.

ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
चारे दीवे चहु हथि दीए एका एका वारी ॥१॥
Cẖāre ḏīve cẖahu hath ḏī▫e ekā ekā vārī. ||1||
He placed the four lamps, one by one, into the hands of the four ages. ||1||
|
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मिहरवान मधुसूदन माधौ ऐसी सकति तुम्हारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Miharvān maḏẖusūḏan māḏẖou aisī sakaṯ ṯumĥārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
O Merciful Lord, Destroyer of demons, Lord of Lakshmi, such is Your Power - Your Shakti. ||1||Pause||

ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
घरि घरि लसकरु पावकु तेरा धरमु करे सिकदारी ॥
Gẖar gẖar laskar pāvak ṯerā ḏẖaram kare sikḏārī.
Your army is the fire in the home of each and every heart. And Dharma - righteous living is the ruling chieftain.

ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
धरती देग मिलै इक वेरा भागु तेरा भंडारी ॥२॥
Ḏẖarṯī ḏeg milai ik verā bẖāg ṯerā bẖandārī. ||2||
The earth is Your great cooking pot; Your beings receive their portions only once. Destiny is Your gate-keeper. ||2||
|
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
ना साबूरु होवै फिरि मंगै नारदु करे खुआरी ॥
Nā sābūr hovai fir mangai nāraḏ kare kẖu▫ārī.
But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more; his fickle mind brings him disgrace.
