ਸਾਮ ਵੇਦੁ ਰਿਗੁ ਜੁਜਰੁ ਅਥਰਬਣੁ ॥
साम वेदु रिगु जुजरु अथरबणु ॥

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੇ ਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ॥
ब्रहमे मुखि माइआ है त्रै गुण ॥
Barahmé mukʰ maa▫i▫aa hæ ṫaræ guṇ.
form the mouth of Brahma; they speak of the three gunas, the three qualities of Maya.

ਤਾ ਕੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋ ਤਿਉ ਬੋਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਬੋਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
ता की कीमति कहि न सकै को तिउ बोले जिउ बोलाइदा ॥९॥
Ṫaa kee keemaṫ kahi na sakæ ko ṫi▫o bolé ji▫o bolaa▫iḋaa. ||9||
None of them can describe His worth. We speak as He inspires us to speak. ||9||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
सुंनहु सपत पाताल उपाए ॥
Sunnahu sapaṫ paaṫaal upaa▫é.
From the Primal Void, He created the seven nether regions.

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਭਵਣ ਰਖੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
सुंनहु भवण रखे लिव लाए ॥
Sunnahu bʰavaṇ rakʰé liv laa▫é.
From the Primal Void, He established this world to lovingly dwell upon Him.

ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰਣੁ ਕੀਆ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਕੀਆ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
आपे कारणु कीआ अपर्मपरि सभु तेरो कीआ कमाइदा ॥१०॥
Aapé kaaraṇ kee▫aa aprampar sabʰ ṫéro kee▫aa kamaa▫iḋaa. ||10||
The Infinite Lord Himself created the creation. Everyone acts as You make them act, Lord. ||10||

ਰਜ ਤਮ ਸਤ ਕਲ ਤੇਰੀ ਛਾਇਆ ॥
रज तम सत कल तेरी छाइआ ॥
Raj ṫam saṫ kal ṫéree chʰaa▫i▫aa.
Your Power is diffused through the three gunas: raajas, taamas and satva.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਹਉਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
जनम मरण हउमै दुखु पाइआ ॥
Janam maraṇ ha▫umæ ḋukʰ paa▫i▫aa.
Through egotism, they suffer the pains of birth and death.
|
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗੁਣਿ ਚਉਥੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
जिस नो क्रिपा करे हरि गुरमुखि गुणि चउथै मुकति कराइदा ॥११॥
Jis no kirpaa karé har gurmukʰ guṇ cha▫uṫʰæ mukaṫ karaa▫iḋaa. ||11||
Those blessed by His Grace become Gurmukh; they attain the fourth state, and are liberated. ||11||

ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਉਪਜੇ ਦਸ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥
सुंनहु उपजे दस अवतारा ॥
Sunnahu upjé ḋas avṫaaraa.
From the Primal Void, the ten incarnations welled up.
|
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਕੀਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
स्रिसटि उपाइ कीआ पासारा ॥
Sarisat upaa▫é kee▫aa paasaaraa.
Creating the Universe, He made the expanse.

ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਗਣ ਗੰਧਰਬ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
देव दानव गण गंधरब साजे सभि लिखिआ करम कमाइदा ॥१२॥
Ḋév ḋaanav gaṇ ganḋʰarab saajé sabʰ likʰi▫aa karam kamaa▫iḋaa. ||12||
He fashioned the demi-gods and demons, the heavenly heralds and celestial musicians; everyone acts according to their past karma. ||12||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि समझै रोगु न होई ॥
Gurmukʰ samjʰæ rog na ho▫ee.
The Gurmukh understands, and does not suffer the disease.
|
ਇਹ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਨੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
इह गुर की पउड़ी जाणै जनु कोई ॥
Ih gur kee pa▫oṛee jaaṇæ jan ko▫ee.
How rare are those who understand this ladder of the Guru.
|
ਜੁਗਹ ਜੁਗੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਰਾਇਣ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
जुगह जुगंतरि मुकति पराइण सो मुकति भइआ पति पाइदा ॥१३॥
Jugah juganṫar mukaṫ paraa▫iṇ so mukaṫ bʰa▫i▫aa paṫ paa▫iḋaa. ||13||
Throughout the ages, they are dedicated to liberation, and so they become liberated; thus, they are honored. ||13||
|
ਪੰਚ ਤਤੁ ਸੁੰਨਹੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
पंच ततु सुंनहु परगासा ॥
Panch ṫaṫ sunnahu pargaasaa.
From the Primal Void, the five elements became manifest.
|
ਦੇਹ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਕਰਮ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥
देह संजोगी करम अभिआसा ॥
Ḋéh sanjogee karam abʰi▫aasaa.
They joined to form the body, which engages in actions.
|
ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਦੁਇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੀਖੇ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਬੀਜਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
बुरा भला दुइ मसतकि लीखे पापु पुंनु बीजाइदा ॥१४॥
Buraa bʰalaa ḋu▫é masṫak leekʰé paap punn beejaa▫iḋaa. ||14||
Both bad and good are written on the forehead, the seeds of vice and virtue. ||14||
|
ਊਤਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖ ਨਿਰਾਲੇ ॥
ऊतम सतिगुर पुरख निराले ॥
Ooṫam saṫgur purakʰ niraalé.
The True Guru, the Primal Being, is sublime and detached.
|
ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਤਵਾਲੇ ॥
सबदि रते हरि रसि मतवाले ॥
Sabaḋ raṫé har ras maṫvaalé.
Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, He is intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord.

ਰਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
रिधि बुधि सिधि गिआनु गुरू ते पाईऐ पूरै भागि मिलाइदा ॥१५॥
Riḋʰ buḋʰ siḋʰ gi▫aan guroo ṫé paa▫ee▫æ pooræ bʰaag milaa▫iḋaa. ||15||
Riches, intellect, miraculous spiritual powers and spiritual wisdom are obtained from the Guru; through perfect destiny, they are received. ||15||
|
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਘਨੇਰਾ ॥
इसु मन माइआ कउ नेहु घनेरा ॥
Is man maa▫i▫aa ka▫o néhu gʰanéraa.
This mind is so in love with Maya.
|
ਕੋਈ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਰਹੁ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥
कोई बूझहु गिआनी करहु निबेरा ॥
Ko▫ee boojʰhu gi▫aanee karahu nibéraa.
Only a few are spiritually wise enough to understand and know this.

ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਰੁ ਲੋਭੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥
आसा मनसा हउमै सहसा नरु लोभी कूड़ु कमाइदा ॥१६॥
Aasaa mansaa ha▫umæ sahsaa nar lobʰee kooṛ kamaa▫iḋaa. ||16||
In hope and desire, egotism and skepticism, the greedy man acts falsely. ||16||
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਏ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
सतिगुर ते पाए वीचारा ॥
Saṫgur ṫé paa▫é veechaaraa.
From the True Guru, contemplative meditation is obtained.
|
ਸੁੰਨ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਚੇ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
सुंन समाधि सचे घर बारा ॥
Sunn samaaḋʰ saché gʰar baaraa.
And then, one dwells with the True Lord in His celestial home, the Primal State of Absorption in Deepest Samadhi.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਦੁ ਸਬਦ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਰਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੭॥੫॥੧੭॥
नानक निरमल नादु सबद धुनि सचु रामै नामि समाइदा ॥१७॥५॥१७॥
Naanak nirmal naaḋ sabaḋ ḋʰun sach raamæ naam samaa▫iḋaa. ||17||5||17||
O Nanak! The immaculate sound current of the Naad, and the Music of the Shabad resound; one merges into the True Name of the Lord. ||17||5||17||

ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
जह देखा तह दीन दइआला ॥
Jah ḋékʰaa ṫah ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aalaa.
Wherever I look, I see the Lord, merciful to the meek.
|
ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ॥
आइ न जाई प्रभु किरपाला ॥
Aa▫é na jaa▫ee parabʰ kirpaalaa.
God is compassionate; He does not come or go in reincarnation.

ਜੀਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਰਹਿਓ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
जीआ अंदरि जुगति समाई रहिओ निरालमु राइआ ॥१॥
Jee▫aa anḋar jugaṫ samaa▫ee rahi▫o niraalam raa▫i▫aa. ||1||
He pervades all beings in His mysterious way; the Sovereign Lord remains detached. ||1||
|
ਜਗੁ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਛਾਇਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
जगु तिस की छाइआ जिसु बापु न माइआ ॥
Jag ṫis kee chʰaa▫i▫aa jis baap na maa▫i▫aa.
The world is a reflection of Him; He has no father or mother.
|
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭੈਣ ਨ ਭਰਾਉ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
ना तिसु भैण न भराउ कमाइआ ॥
Naa ṫis bʰæṇ na bʰaraa▫o kamaa▫i▫aa.
He has not acquired any sister or brother.
|
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਓਪਤਿ ਖਪਤਿ ਕੁਲ ਜਾਤੀ ਓਹੁ ਅਜਰਾਵਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
ना तिसु ओपति खपति कुल जाती ओहु अजरावरु मनि भाइआ ॥२॥
Naa ṫis opaṫ kʰapaṫ kul jaaṫee oh ajraavar man bʰaa▫i▫aa. ||2||
There is no creation or destruction for Him; He has no ancestry or social status. The Ageless Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||2||
|
ਤੂ ਅਕਾਲ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲਾ ॥
तू अकाल पुरखु नाही सिरि काला ॥
Ṫoo akaal purakʰ naahee sir kaalaa.
You are the Deathless Primal Being. Death does not hover over Your head.
|
ਤੂ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਲੇਖ ਅਗੰਮ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥
तू पुरखु अलेख अगंम निराला ॥
Ṫoo purakʰ alékʰ agamm niraalaa.
You are the indescribable, inaccessible and unique Primal Lord.

ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਅਤਿ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਭਾਇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
सत संतोखि सबदि अति सीतलु सहज भाइ लिव लाइआ ॥३॥
Saṫ sanṫokʰ sabaḋ aṫ seeṫal sahj bʰaa▫é liv laa▫i▫aa. ||3||
You are true and content; the Word of Your Shabad is cool and soothing. Through it, we are lovingly, intuitively attuned to You. ||3||
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਵਰਤਾਇ ਚਉਥੈ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥
त्रै वरताइ चउथै घरि वासा ॥
Ṫaræ varṫaa▫é cha▫uṫʰæ gʰar vaasaa.
The three qualities are pervasive; the Lord dwells in His home, the fourth state.

ਕਾਲ ਬਿਕਾਲ ਕੀਏ ਇਕ ਗ੍ਰਾਸਾ ॥
काल बिकाल कीए इक ग्रासा ॥
Kaal bikaal kee▫é ik garasaa.
He has made death and birth into a bite of food.
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰਬ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਗੁਰਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦਿ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
निरमल जोति सरब जगजीवनु गुरि अनहद सबदि दिखाइआ ॥४॥
Nirmal joṫ sarab jagjeevan gur anhaḋ sabaḋ ḋikʰaa▫i▫aa. ||4||
The immaculate Light is the Life of the whole world. The Guru reveals the unstruck melody of the Shabad. ||4||
|
ਊਤਮ ਜਨ ਸੰਤ ਭਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
ऊतम जन संत भले हरि पिआरे ॥
Ooṫam jan sanṫ bʰalé har pi▫aaré.
Sublime and good are those humble Saints, the beloved ones of the Lord.
|
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਮਾਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥
हरि रस माते पारि उतारे ॥
Har ras maaṫé paar uṫaaré.
They are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, and are carried across to the other side.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੇਣ ਸੰਤ ਜਨ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੫॥
नानक रेण संत जन संगति हरि गुर परसादी पाइआ ॥५॥
Naanak réṇ sanṫ jan sangaṫ har gur parsaadee paa▫i▫aa. ||5||
Nanak is the dust of the Society of the Saints; by Guru’s Grace, he finds the Lord. ||5||
|
ਤੂ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਜੀਅ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
तू अंतरजामी जीअ सभि तेरे ॥
Ṫoo anṫarjaamee jee▫a sabʰ ṫéré.
You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. All beings belong to You.
