ਜੋਗੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਤੀ ॥ जोगी जुगति नामु निरमाइलु ता कै मैलु न राती ॥ Jogee jugaṫ naam nirmaa▫il ṫaa kæ mæl na raaṫee. The Yogi who is joined to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is pure; he is not stained by even a particle of dirt. ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ मारू महला १ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 1. Maaroo, First Mehl: ਗੁਸਾਈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਜਾਤੀ ॥ गुसाई तेरा कहा नामु कैसे जाती ॥ Gusaa▫ee ṫéraa kahaa naam kæsé jaaṫee. O Lord of the Universe, what is Your Name, and what is it like? ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਗਤਿ ਬੀਤੀ ॥੧॥ प्रीतम नाथु सदा सचु संगे जनम मरण गति बीती ॥१॥ Pareeṫam naaṫʰ saḋaa sach sangé janam maraṇ gaṫ beeṫee. ||1|| The True Lord, his Beloved, is always with him; the rounds of birth and death are ended for him. ||1|| ਜਾ ਤਉ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵਹਿ ਪੂਛਉ ਬਾਤ ਨਿਰੰਤੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जा तउ भीतरि महलि बुलावहि पूछउ बात निरंती ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Jaa ṫa▫o bʰeeṫar mahal bulaavėh poochʰa▫o baaṫ niranṫee. ||1|| rahaa▫o. If You summon me into the Mansion of Your Presence, I will ask You, how I can become one with You. ||1||Pause|| ਬ੍ਰਹਮਣੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਇਸਨਾਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਪੂਜੇ ਪਾਤੀ ॥ ब्रहमणु ब्रहम गिआन इसनानी हरि गुण पूजे पाती ॥ Barahmaṇ barahm gi▫aan isnaanee har guṇ poojé paaṫee. He alone is a Brahmin, who takes his cleansing bath in the spiritual wisdom of God, and whose leaf-offerings in worship are the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਰਾਇਣੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤੀ ॥੨॥ एको नामु एकु नाराइणु त्रिभवण एका जोती ॥२॥ Éko naam ék naaraa▫iṇ ṫaribʰavaṇ ékaa joṫee. ||2|| The One Name, the One Lord, and His One Light pervade the three worlds. ||2|| ਜਿਹਵਾ ਡੰਡੀ ਇਹੁ ਘਟੁ ਛਾਬਾ ਤੋਲਉ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਜਾਚੀ ॥ जिहवा डंडी इहु घटु छाबा तोलउ नामु अजाची ॥ Jihvaa dandee ih gʰat chʰaabaa ṫola▫o naam ajaachee. My tongue is the balance of the scale, and this heart of mine is the pan of the scale; I weigh the immeasurable Naam. ਏਕੋ ਹਾਟੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ਇਕ ਭਾਤੀ ॥੩॥ एको हाटु साहु सभना सिरि वणजारे इक भाती ॥३॥ Éko haat saahu sabʰnaa sir vaṇjaaré ik bʰaaṫee. ||3|| There is one store, and one banker above all; the merchants deal in the one commodity. ||3|| ਦੋਵੈ ਸਿਰੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਨਿਬੇੜੇ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਜੀਅਹੁ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਭਰਾਤੀ ॥ दोवै सिरे सतिगुरू निबेड़े सो बूझै जिसु एक लिव लागी जीअहु रहै निभराती ॥ Ḋovæ siré saṫguroo nibéṛé so boojʰæ jis ék liv laagee jee▫ahu rahæ nibʰraaṫee. The True Guru saves us at both ends; he alone understands, who is lovingly focused on the One Lord; his inner being remains free of doubt. ਸਬਦੁ ਵਸਾਏ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਸਦਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ॥੪॥ सबदु वसाए भरमु चुकाए सदा सेवकु दिनु राती ॥४॥ Sabaḋ vasaa▫é bʰaram chukaa▫é saḋaa sévak ḋin raaṫee. ||4|| The Word of the Shabad abides within, and doubt is ended, for those who constantly serve, day and night. ||4|| ਊਪਰਿ ਗਗਨੁ ਗਗਨ ਪਰਿ ਗੋਰਖੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅਗਮੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਪੁਨਿ ਵਾਸੀ ॥ ऊपरि गगनु गगन परि गोरखु ता का अगमु गुरू पुनि वासी ॥ Oopar gagan gagan par gorakʰ ṫaa kaa agam guroo pun vaasee. Above is the sky of the mind, and beyond this sky is the Lord, the Protector of the World; the Inaccessible Lord God; the Guru abides there as well. ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਭਇਆ ਉਦਾਸੀ ॥੫॥੧੧॥ गुर बचनी बाहरि घरि एको नानकु भइआ उदासी ॥५॥११॥ Gur bachnee baahar gʰar éko Naanak bʰa▫i▫aa uḋaasee. ||5||11|| According to the Word of the Guru’s Teachings, what is outside is the same as what is inside the home of the self.
