ਜਿਹ ਮੁਖ ਬੇਦੁ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਨਿਕਸੈ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਬਿਸਰੁ ਕਰੈ ॥ जिह मुख बेदु गाइत्री निकसै सो किउ ब्रहमनु बिसरु करै ॥ Jih mukʰ béḋ gaa▫iṫaree niksæ so ki▫o barahman bisar karæ. O Brahmin, how can you forget the One, from whose mouth the Vedas and the Gayatri prayer issued forth? ਜਾ ਕੈ ਪਾਇ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਭੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਕਹੈ ॥੧॥ जा कै पाइ जगतु सभु लागै सो किउ पंडितु हरि न कहै ॥१॥ Jaa kæ paa▫é jagaṫ sabʰ laagæ so ki▫o pandiṫ har na kahæ. ||1|| The whole world falls at His feet; why don’t you chant the Name of that Lord, O Pandit? ||1|| ਕਾਹੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਬਾਮੑਨ ਹਰਿ ਨ ਕਹਹਿ ॥ काहे मेरे बाम्हन हरि न कहहि ॥ Kaahé méré baamĥan har na kahėh. Why, O my Brahmin, do you not chant the Lord’s Name? ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਪਾਡੇ ਦੋਜਕੁ ਭਰਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ रामु न बोलहि पाडे दोजकु भरहि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Raam na bolėh paadé ḋojak bʰarėh. ||1|| rahaa▫o. If you don’t chant the Lord’s Name, O Pandit, you will only suffer in hell. ||1||Pause|| ਆਪਨ ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਘਰਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਹਠੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਰਿ ਉਦਰੁ ਭਰਹਿ ॥ आपन ऊच नीच घरि भोजनु हठे करम करि उदरु भरहि ॥ Aapan ooch neech gʰar bʰojan hatʰé karam kar uḋar bʰarėh. You think that you are high, but you take food from the houses of the lowly; you fill up your belly by forcibly practicing your rituals. ਚਉਦਸ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਰਚਿ ਰਚਿ ਮਾਂਗਹਿ ਕਰ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਲੈ ਕੂਪਿ ਪਰਹਿ ॥੨॥ चउदस अमावस रचि रचि मांगहि कर दीपकु लै कूपि परहि ॥२॥ Cha▫uḋas amaavas rach rach maaⁿgėh kar ḋeepak læ koop parėh. ||2|| On the fourteenth day, and the night of the new moon, you go out begging; even though you hold the lamp in your hands, still, you fall into the pit. ||2|| ਤੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਮੈ ਕਾਸੀਕ ਜੁਲਹਾ ਮੁਹਿ ਤੋਹਿ ਬਰਾਬਰੀ ਕੈਸੇ ਕੈ ਬਨਹਿ ॥ तूं ब्रहमनु मै कासीक जुलहा मुहि तोहि बराबरी कैसे कै बनहि ॥ Ṫooⁿ barahman mæ kaaseek julhaa muhi ṫohi baraabaree kæsé kæ banėh. You are a Brahmin, and I am only a weaver from Benares. How can I compare to you? ਹਮਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਕਹਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਬੇਦ ਭਰੋਸੇ ਪਾਂਡੇ ਡੂਬਿ ਮਰਹਿ ॥੩॥੫॥ हमरे राम नाम कहि उबरे बेद भरोसे पांडे डूबि मरहि ॥३॥५॥ Hamré raam naam kahi ubré béḋ bʰarosé paaⁿdé doob marėh. ||3||5|| Chanting the Lord’s Name, I have been saved; relying on the Vedas, O Brahmin, you shall drown and die. ||3||5||
