ਮੂਰਖੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸੁਣੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾ ਕਹਣਾ ॥ मूरखु होवै सो सुणै मूरख का कहणा ॥ Mūrakẖ hovai so suṇai mūrakẖ kā kahṇā. Only a fool listens to the words of the fool. ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੩ ॥ सलोक मः ३ ॥ Salok mėhlā 3. Shalok, Third Mehl: ਮੂਰਖੁ ਓਹੁ ਜਿ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੇ ਮਰਣਾ ॥ मूरखु ओहु जि मुगधु है अहंकारे मरणा ॥ Mūrakẖ oh jė mugaḏẖ hai ahaʼnkāre marṇā. A fool is stupid; he dies of egotism. ਮੂਰਖ ਕੇ ਕਿਆ ਲਖਣ ਹੈ ਕਿਆ ਮੂਰਖ ਕਾ ਕਰਣਾ ॥ मूरख के किआ लखण है किआ मूरख का करणा ॥ Mūrakẖ ke ki▫ā lakẖaṇ hai ki▫ā mūrakẖ kā karṇā. What are the signs of the fool? What does the fool do? ਏਤੁ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਣਾ ॥ एतु कमाणै सदा दुखु दुख ही महि रहणा ॥ Ėṯ kamāṇai saḏā ḏukẖ ḏukẖ hī mėh rahṇā. His actions always bring him pain; he lives in pain. ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪਵੈ ਖੂਹਿ ਕਿਹੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣਾ ॥ अति पिआरा पवै खूहि किहु संजमु करणा ॥ Aṯ pi▫ārā pavai kẖūhi kihu sanjam karṇā. If someone's beloved friend falls into the pit, what can be used to pull him out? ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ਓਸੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੋ ਰਹਣਾ ॥ गुरमुखि होइ सु करे वीचारु ओसु अलिपतो रहणा ॥ Gurmukẖ ho▫e so kare vīcẖār os alipaṯo rahṇā. One who becomes Gurmukh contemplates the Lord, and remains detached. ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਆਪਿ ਉਧਰੈ ਓਸੁ ਪਿਛੈ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਭੀ ਤਰਣਾ ॥ हरि नामु जपै आपि उधरै ओसु पिछै डुबदे भी तरणा ॥ Har nām japai āp uḏẖrai os picẖẖai dubḏe bẖī ṯarṇā. Chanting the Lord's Name, he saves himself, and he carries across those who are drowning as well. ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਕਰੇ ਜੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਸਹਣਾ ॥੧॥ नानक जो तिसु भावै सो करे जो देइ सु सहणा ॥१॥ Nānak jo ṯis bẖāvai so kare jo ḏe▫e so sahṇā. ||1|| O Nanak, he acts in accordance with the Will of God; he endures whatever he is given. ||1||
