ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੧੦ बिलावलु असटपदीआ महला १ घरु १० Bilāval asatpaḏī▫ā mėhlā 1 gẖar 10 Bilaaval, Ashtapadees, First Mehl, Tenth House: ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥ गुरमुखि विरला बूझै कोई ॥ Gurmukẖ virlā būjẖai ko▫ī. but how rare is the Gurmukh who understands this. ਨਿਕਟਿ ਵਸੈ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਸੋਈ ॥ निकटि वसै देखै सभु सोई ॥ Nikat vasai ḏekẖai sabẖ so▫ī. He dwells close at hand, and sees all, ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ सबदि रते सदा सुखु होई ॥१॥ Sabaḏ raṯe saḏā sukẖ ho▫ī. ||1|| Imbued with the Word of the Shabad, eternal peace is attained. ||1|| ਵਿਣੁ ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ विणु भै पइऐ भगति न होई ॥ viṇ bẖai pa▫i▫ai bẖagaṯ na ho▫ī. Without the Fear of God, there is no devotional worship. ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਨਾਮੁ ॥ ऐसा गिआनु पदारथु नामु ॥ Aisā gi▫ān paḏārath nām. Such is the spiritual wisdom, the treasure of the Naam; ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ गुरमुखि पावसि रसि रसि मानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Gurmukẖ pāvas ras ras mān. ||1|| rahā▫o. obtaining it, the Gurmukhs enjoy the subtle essence of this nectar. ||1||Pause|| ਗਿਆਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕਥੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ गिआनु गिआनु कथै सभु कोई ॥ Gi▫ān gi▫ān kathai sabẖ ko▫ī. Everyone talks about spiritual wisdom and spiritual knowledge. ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਬਾਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥ कथि कथि बादु करे दुखु होई ॥ Kath kath bāḏ kare ḏukẖ ho▫ī. Talking, talking, they argue, and suffer. ਕਥਿ ਕਹਣੈ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥ कथि कहणै ते रहै न कोई ॥ Kath kahṇai ṯe rahai na ko▫ī. No one can stop talking and discussing it. ਬਿਨੁ ਰਸ ਰਾਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥ बिनु रस राते मुकति न होई ॥२॥ Bin ras rāṯe mukaṯ na ho▫ī. ||2|| Without being imbued with the subtle essence, there is no liberation. ||2|| ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਹੋਈ ॥ गिआनु धिआनु सभु गुर ते होई ॥ Gi▫ān ḏẖi▫ān sabẖ gur ṯe ho▫ī. Spiritual wisdom and meditation all come from the Guru. ਸਾਚੀ ਰਹਤ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਈ ॥ साची रहत साचा मनि सोई ॥ Sācẖī rahaṯ sācẖā man so▫ī. Through the lifestyle of Truth, the True Lord comes to dwell in the mind. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਥਨੀ ਹੈ ਪਰੁ ਰਹਤ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥ मनमुख कथनी है परु रहत न होई ॥ Manmukẖ kathnī hai par rahaṯ na ho▫ī. The self-willed manmukh talks about it, but does not practice it. ਨਾਵਹੁ ਭੂਲੇ ਥਾਉ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩॥ नावहु भूले थाउ न कोई ॥३॥ Nāvhu bẖūle thā▫o na ko▫ī. ||3|| Forgetting the Name, he finds no place of rest. ||3|| ਮਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਬੰਧਿਓ ਸਰ ਜਾਲਿ ॥ मनु माइआ बंधिओ सर जालि ॥ Man mā▫i▫ā banḏẖi▫o sar jāl. Maya has caught the mind in the trap of the whirlpool. ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਬਿਆਪਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਖੁ ਨਾਲਿ ॥ घटि घटि बिआपि रहिओ बिखु नालि ॥ Gẖat gẖat bi▫āp rahi▫o bikẖ nāl. Each and every heart is trapped by this bait of poison and sin. ਜੋ ਆਂਜੈ ਸੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਕਾਲਿ ॥ जो आंजै सो दीसै कालि ॥ Jo āʼnjai so ḏīsai kāl. See that whoever has come, is subject to death. ਕਾਰਜੁ ਸੀਧੋ ਰਿਦੈ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲਿ ॥੪॥ कारजु सीधो रिदै सम्हालि ॥४॥ Kāraj sīḏẖo riḏai samĥāl. ||4|| Your affairs shall be adjusted, if you contemplate the Lord in your heart. ||4|| ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਈ ॥ आपे करतै भगति कराई ॥ Āpe karṯai bẖagaṯ karā▫ī. The Creator Lord Himself inspires us to His devotional worship. ਸੋ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥ सो गिआनी जिनि सबदि लिव लाई ॥ So gi▫ānī jin sabaḏ liv lā▫ī. He alone is a spiritual teacher, who lovingly focuses his consciousness on the Word of the Shabad. ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥ मनमुखि हउमै पति गवाई ॥ Manmukẖ ha▫umai paṯ gavā▫ī. The self-willed, egotistical manmukh loses his honor. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੫॥ गुरमुखि आपे दे वडिआई ॥५॥ Gurmukẖ āpe ḏe vadi▫ā▫ī. ||5|| He Himself blesses the Gurmukh with glorious greatness. ||5|| ਰੈਣਿ ਅੰਧਾਰੀ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ॥ रैणि अंधारी निरमल जोति ॥ Raiṇ anḏẖārī nirmal joṯ. The life-night is dark, while the Divine Light is immaculate. ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਝੂਠੇ ਕੁਚਲ ਕਛੋਤਿ ॥ नाम बिना झूठे कुचल कछोति ॥ Nām binā jẖūṯẖe kucẖal kacẖẖoṯ. Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are false, filthy and untouchable. ਬੇਦੁ ਪੁਕਾਰੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਰੋਤਿ ॥ बेदु पुकारै भगति सरोति ॥ Beḏ pukārai bẖagaṯ saroṯ. The Vedas preach sermons of devotional worship. ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਵੇਖੈ ਜੋਤਿ ॥੬॥ सुणि सुणि मानै वेखै जोति ॥६॥ Suṇ suṇ mānai vekẖai joṯ. ||6|| Listening, hearing and believing, one beholds the Divine Light. ||6|| ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਮੰ ॥ सासत्र सिम्रिति नामु द्रिड़ामं ॥ Sāsṯar simriṯ nām ḏariṛ▫ām. The Shaastras and Simritees implant the Naam within. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਕਰਾਮੰ ॥ गुरमुखि सांति ऊतम करामं ॥ Gurmukẖ sāʼnṯ ūṯam karāmaʼn. The Gurmukh lives in peace and tranquility, doing deeds of sublime purity. ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੂਖ ਸਹਾਮੰ ॥ मनमुखि जोनी दूख सहामं ॥ Manmukẖ jonī ḏūkẖ sahāmaʼn. The self-willed manmukh suffers the pains of reincarnation. ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਮੰ ॥੭॥ बंधन तूटे इकु नामु वसामं ॥७॥ Banḏẖan ṯūte ik nām vasāmaʼn. ||7|| His bonds are broken, enshrining the Name of the One Lord. ||7|| ਮੰਨੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਪੂਜਾ ॥ मंने नामु सची पति पूजा ॥ Manne nām sacẖī paṯ pūjā. Believing in the Naam, one obtains true honor and adoration. ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਹੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੮॥੧॥ नानकु कहै अवरु नही कोइ ॥८॥१॥ Nānak kahai avar nahī ko▫e. ||8||1|| Says Nanak, there is no other at all. ||8||1|| ਦੇਖਿ ਕਹਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਸੋਇ ॥ देखि कहउ भावै मनि सोइ ॥ Ḏekẖ kaha▫o bẖāvai man so▫e. I see, and I say, that He alone is pleasing to my mind. ਕਿਸੁ ਵੇਖਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਦੂਜਾ ॥ किसु वेखा नाही को दूजा ॥ Kis vekẖā nāhī ko ḏūjā. Who should I see? There is none other than the Lord.
