ਰਾਤੀ ਹੋਵਨਿ ਕਾਲੀਆ ਸੁਪੇਦਾ ਸੇ ਵੰਨ ॥ राती होवनि कालीआ सुपेदा से वंन ॥ Rāṯī hovan kālī▫ā supeḏā se vann. Even when the night is dark, whatever is white retains its white color. ਮਃ ੧ ॥ मः १ ॥ Mėhlā 1. First Mehl: ਅੰਧੇ ਅਕਲੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਮੂਰਖ ਅੰਧ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥ अंधे अकली बाहरे मूरख अंध गिआनु ॥ Anḏẖe aklī bāhre mūrakẖ anḏẖ gi▫ān. The blind fools have no wisdom at all; their understanding is blind. ਦਿਹੁ ਬਗਾ ਤਪੈ ਘਣਾ ਕਾਲਿਆ ਕਾਲੇ ਵੰਨ ॥ दिहु बगा तपै घणा कालिआ काले वंन ॥ Ḏihu bagā ṯapai gẖaṇā kāli▫ā kāle vann. And even when the light of day is dazzlingly bright, whatever is black retains its black color. ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਾਹਰੇ ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੨॥ नानक नदरी बाहरे कबहि न पावहि मानु ॥२॥ Nānak naḏrī bāhre kabėh na pāvahi mān. ||2|| O Nanak, without the Lord's Grace, they will never receive honor. ||2||
