ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਰਾਜਨ ਅਰੁ ਭੂਮਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਨ ਬੂਝੀ ॥ वडे वडे राजन अरु भूमन ता की त्रिसन न बूझी ॥ vade vade rājan ar bẖūman ṯā kī ṯarisan na būjẖī. The desires of the greatest of the great kings and landlords cannot be satisfied. ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ धनासरी महला ५ ॥ Ḏẖanāsrī mėhlā 5. Dhanaasaree, Fifth Mehl: ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਤੇ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੀ ॥੧॥ लपटि रहे माइआ रंग माते लोचन कछू न सूझी ॥१॥ Lapat rahe mā▫i▫ā rang māṯe locẖan kacẖẖū na sūjẖī. ||1|| They remain engrossed in Maya, intoxicated with the pleasures of their wealth; their eyes see nothing else at all. ||1|| ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਕਿਨ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥ बिखिआ महि किन ही त्रिपति न पाई ॥ Bikẖi▫ā mėh kin hī ṯaripaṯ na pā▫ī. No one has ever found satisfaction in sin and corruption. ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਈਧਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਹਾ ਅਘਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जिउ पावकु ईधनि नही ध्रापै बिनु हरि कहा अघाई ॥ रहाउ ॥ Ji▫o pāvak īḏẖan nahī ḏẖarāpai bin har kahā agẖā▫ī. Rahā▫o. The flame is not satisfied by more fuel; how can one be satisfied without the Lord? ||Pause|| ਦਿਨੁ ਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਤ ਭੋਜਨ ਬਹੁ ਬਿੰਜਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਭੂਖਾ ॥ दिनु दिनु करत भोजन बहु बिंजन ता की मिटै न भूखा ॥ Ḏin ḏin karaṯ bẖojan baho binjan ṯā kī mitai na bẖūkẖā. Day after day, he eats his meals with many different foods, but his hunger is not eradicated. ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਆਨ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਟਾ ਘੋਖਾ ॥੨॥ उदमु करै सुआन की निआई चारे कुंटा घोखा ॥२॥ Uḏam karai su▫ān kī ni▫ā▫ī cẖāre kuntā gẖokẖā. ||2|| He runs around like a dog, searching in the four directions. ||2|| ਕਾਮਵੰਤ ਕਾਮੀ ਬਹੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਪਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜੋਹ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ॥ कामवंत कामी बहु नारी पर ग्रिह जोह न चूकै ॥ Kāmvanṯ kāmī baho nārī par garih joh na cẖūkai. The lustful, lecherous man desires many women, and he never stops peeking into the homes of others. ਦਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਕਰੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਪੈ ਸੋਗ ਲੋਭ ਮਹਿ ਸੂਕੈ ॥੩॥ दिन प्रति करै करै पछुतापै सोग लोभ महि सूकै ॥३॥ Ḏin paraṯ karai karai pacẖẖuṯāpai sog lobẖ mėh sūkai. ||3|| Day after day, he commits adultery again and again, and then he regrets his actions; he wastes away in misery and greed. ||3|| ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਪਾਰ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥ हरि हरि नामु अपार अमोला अम्रितु एकु निधाना ॥ Har har nām apār amolā amriṯ ek niḏẖānā. The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is incomparable and priceless; it is the treasure of Ambrosial Nectar. ਸੂਖੁ ਸਹਜੁ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥ सूखु सहजु आनंदु संतन कै नानक गुर ते जाना ॥४॥६॥ Sūkẖ sahj ānanḏ sanṯan kai Nānak gur ṯe jānā. ||4||6|| The Saints abide in peace, poise and bliss; O Nanak, through the Guru, this is known. ||4||6||
