ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੰਨੁ ਅਜਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ मनमुख मंनु अजितु है दूजै लगै जाइ ॥ Manmukẖ man ajiṯ hai ḏūjai lagai jā▫e. The mind of the self-willed manmukh is so very stubborn; it is stuck in the love of duality. ਮਃ ੩ ॥ मः ३ ॥ Mėhlā 3. Third Mehl: ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਸੁਖੁ ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਹੀ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥ तिस नो सुखु सुपनै नही दुखे दुखि विहाइ ॥ Ŧis no sukẖ supnai nahī ḏukẖe ḏukẖ vihā▫e. He does not find peace, even in dreams; he passes his life in misery and suffering. ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਥਕੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਇ ॥ घरि घरि पड़ि पड़ि पंडित थके सिध समाधि लगाइ ॥ Gẖar gẖar paṛ paṛ pandiṯ thake siḏẖ samāḏẖ lagā▫e. The Pandits have grown weary of going door to door, reading and reciting their scriptures; the Siddhas have gone into their trances of Samaadhi. ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਥਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥ इहु मनु वसि न आवई थके करम कमाइ ॥ Ih man vas na āvī thake karam kamā▫e. This mind cannot be controlled; they are tired of performing religious rituals. ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਥਕੇ ਅਠਿਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਇ ॥ भेखधारी भेख करि थके अठिसठि तीरथ नाइ ॥ Bẖekẖ▫ḏẖārī bẖekẖ kar thake aṯẖisaṯẖ ṯirath nā▫e. The impersonators have grown weary of wearing false costumes, and bathing at the sixty-eight sacred shrines. ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥ मन की सार न जाणनी हउमै भरमि भुलाइ ॥ Man kī sār na jāṇnī ha▫umai bẖaram bẖulā▫e. They do not know the state of their own minds; they are deluded by doubt and egotism. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਭਉ ਪਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥ गुर परसादी भउ पइआ वडभागि वसिआ मनि आइ ॥ Gur parsādī bẖa▫o pa▫i▫ā vadbẖāg vasi▫ā man ā▫e. By Guru's Grace, the Fear of God is obtained; by great good fortune, the Lord comes to abide in the mind. ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥ भै पइऐ मनु वसि होआ हउमै सबदि जलाइ ॥ Bẖai pa▫i▫ai man vas ho▫ā ha▫umai sabaḏ jalā▫e. When the Fear of God comes, the mind is restrained, and through the Word of the Shabad, the ego is burnt away. ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ सचि रते से निरमले जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥ Sacẖ raṯe se nirmale joṯī joṯ milā▫e. Those who are imbued with Truth are immaculate; their light merges in the Light. ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ सतिगुरि मिलिऐ नाउ पाइआ नानक सुखि समाइ ॥२॥ Saṯgur mili▫ai nā▫o pā▫i▫ā Nānak sukẖ samā▫e. ||2|| Meeting the True Guru, one obtains the Name; O Nanak, he is absorbed in peace. ||2|| |
