ਮਨੁ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਪੀਲਕੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਜਹ ਖਿੰਚੇ ਤਹ ਜਾਇ ॥ मनु कुंचरु पीलकु गुरू गिआनु कुंडा जह खिंचे तह जाइ ॥ Man kuncẖar pīlak gurū gi▫ān kundā jah kẖincẖe ṯah jā▫e. The mind is the elephant, the Guru is the elephant-driver, and knowledge is the whip. Wherever the Guru drives the mind, it goes. ਮਃ ੩ ॥ मः ३ ॥ Mėhlā 3. Third Mehl: ਨਾਨਕ ਹਸਤੀ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੨॥ नानक हसती कुंडे बाहरा फिरि फिरि उझड़ि पाइ ॥२॥ Nānak hasṯī kunde bāhrā fir fir ujẖaṛ pā▫e. ||2|| O Nanak, without the whip, the elephant wanders into the wilderness, again and again. ||2||
