ਕਾਚੀ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਦੇਹ ਦੁਹੇਲੀ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ काची गागरि देह दुहेली उपजै बिनसै दुखु पाई ॥ Kaachee gaagar ḋéh ḋuhélee upjæ binsæ ḋukʰ paa▫ee. The clay pitcher of the body is miserable; it suffers in pain through birth and death. ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ इहु जगु सागरु दुतरु किउ तरीऐ बिनु हरि गुर पारि न पाई ॥१॥ Ih jag saagar ḋuṫar ki▫o ṫaree▫æ bin har gur paar na paa▫ee. ||1|| How can this terrifying world-ocean be crossed over? Without the Lord - Guru, it cannot be crossed. ||1|| ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ आसा महला १ ॥ Aasaa mėhlaa 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਮੇਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਹਰੇ ॥ तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोई मेरे पिआरे तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोइ हरे ॥ Ṫujʰ bin avar na ko▫ee méré pi▫aaré ṫujʰ bin avar na ko▫é haré. Without You, there is no other at all, O my Beloved; without you, there is no other at all. ਸਰਬੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਰੂਪੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ सरबी रंगी रूपी तूंहै तिसु बखसे जिसु नदरि करे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sarbee rangee roopee ṫooⁿhæ ṫis bakʰsé jis naḋar karé. ||1|| rahaa▫o. You are in all colors and forms; he alone is forgiven, upon whom You bestow Your Glance of Grace. ||1||Pause|| ਸਾਸੁ ਬੁਰੀ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ਨ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਿਰ ਸਿਉ ਮਿਲਣ ਨ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਰੀ ॥ सासु बुरी घरि वासु न देवै पिर सिउ मिलण न देइ बुरी ॥ Saas buree gʰar vaas na ḋévæ pir si▫o milaṇ na ḋé▫é buree. Maya, my mother-in-law, is evil; she does not let me live in my own home. The vicious one does not let me meet with my Husband Lord. ਸਖੀ ਸਾਜਨੀ ਕੇ ਹਉ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਉ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਧਰੀ ॥੨॥ सखी साजनी के हउ चरन सरेवउ हरि गुर किरपा ते नदरि धरी ॥२॥ Sakʰee saajnee ké ha▫o charan saréva▫o har gur kirpaa ṫé naḋar ḋʰaree. ||2|| I serve at the feet of my companions and friends; the Lord has showered me with His Mercy, through Guru’s Grace. ||2|| ਆਪੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤੁਮ ਸਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਅਵਰੁ ਕੋਈ ॥ आपु बीचारि मारि मनु देखिआ तुम सा मीतु न अवरु कोई ॥ Aap beechaar maar man ḋékʰi▫aa ṫum saa meeṫ na avar ko▫ee. Reflecting upon myself, and conquering my mind, I have seen that there is no other friend like You. ਜਿਉ ਤੂੰ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਤਿਵ ਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੋਈ ॥੩॥ जिउ तूं राखहि तिव ही रहणा दुखु सुखु देवहि करहि सोई ॥३॥ Ji▫o ṫooⁿ raakʰahi ṫiv hee rahṇaa ḋukʰ sukʰ ḋévėh karahi so▫ee. ||3|| As You keep me, so do I live. You are the Giver of peace and pleasure. Whatever You do, comes to pass. ||3|| ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਦੋਊ ਬਿਨਾਸਤ ਤ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸ ਭਈ ॥ आसा मनसा दोऊ बिनासत त्रिहु गुण आस निरास भई ॥ Aasaa mansaa ḋo▫oo binaasaṫ ṫarihu guṇ aas niraas bʰa▫ee. Hope and desire have both been dispelled; I have renounced my longing for the three qualities. ਤੁਰੀਆਵਸਥਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸੰਤ ਸਭਾ ਕੀ ਓਟ ਲਹੀ ॥੪॥ तुरीआवसथा गुरमुखि पाईऐ संत सभा की ओट लही ॥४॥ Ṫuree▫aavasṫʰaa gurmukʰ paa▫ee▫æ sanṫ sabʰaa kee ot lahee. ||4|| The Gurmukh obtains the state of ecstasy, taking to the Shelter of the Saints’ Congregation. ||4|| ਗਿਆਨ ਧਿਆਨ ਸਗਲੇ ਸਭਿ ਜਪ ਤਪ ਜਿਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥ गिआन धिआन सगले सभि जप तप जिसु हरि हिरदै अलख अभेवा ॥ Gi▫aan ḋʰi▫aan saglé sabʰ jap ṫap jis har hirḋæ alakʰ abʰévaa. All wisdom and meditation, all chanting and penance, come to one whose heart is filled with the Invisible, Inscrutable Lord. ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੫॥੨੨॥ नानक राम नामि मनु राता गुरमति पाए सहज सेवा ॥५॥२२॥ Naanak raam naam man raaṫaa gurmaṫ paa▫é sahj sévaa. ||5||22|| O Nanak! One whose mind is imbued with the Lord’s Name, finds the Guru’s Teachings, and intuitively serves. ||5||22||
