ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਬਨੁ ਸਮਸਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥ ग्रिहु बनु समसरि सहजि सुभाइ ॥ Garihu ban samsar sahj subẖā▫e. Home and forest are the same, for one who dwells in the balance of intuitive peace and poise. ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥ आसा महला १ ॥ Āsā mėhlā 1. Aasaa, First Mehl: ਸਚ ਪਉੜੀ ਸਾਚਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਂਉ ॥ सच पउड़ी साचउ मुखि नांउ ॥ Sacẖ pa▫oṛī sācẖa▫o mukẖ nāʼn▫o. To chant the True Name with one's mouth is the true ladder. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਿਜ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥ सतिगुरु सेवि पाए निज थाउ ॥१॥ Saṯgur sev pā▫e nij thā▫o. ||1|| Serving the True Guru, one finds one's own place within the self. ||1|| ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਗਤੁ ਭਈ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਠਾਇ ॥ दुरमति गतु भई कीरति ठाइ ॥ Ḏurmaṯ gaṯ bẖa▫ī kīraṯ ṯẖā▫e. His evil-mindedness departs, and the Praises of God take its place. ਮਨ ਚੂਰੇ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਜਾਣੁ ॥ मन चूरे खटु दरसन जाणु ॥ Man cẖūre kẖat ḏarsan jāṇ. To conquer the mind is the knowledge of the six Shaastras. ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ सरब जोति पूरन भगवानु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sarab joṯ pūran bẖagvān. ||1|| rahā▫o. The Divine Light of the Lord God is perfectly pervading. ||1||Pause|| ਅਧਿਕ ਤਿਆਸ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੈ ॥ अधिक तिआस भेख बहु करै ॥ Aḏẖik ṯi▫ās bẖekẖ baho karai. Excessive thirst for Maya makes people wear all sorts of religious robes. ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਨਿ ਪਰਹਰੈ ॥ दुखु बिखिआ सुखु तनि परहरै ॥ Ḏukẖ bikẖi▫ā sukẖ ṯan parharai. The pain of corruption destroys the body's peace. ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰੈ ॥ कामु क्रोधु अंतरि धनु हिरै ॥ Kām kroḏẖ anṯar ḏẖan hirai. Sexual desire and anger steal the wealth of the self within. ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਛੋਡਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਸਤਰੈ ॥੨॥ दुबिधा छोडि नामि निसतरै ॥२॥ Ḏubiḏẖā cẖẖod nām nisṯarai. ||2|| But by abandoning duality, one is emancipated through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2|| ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਸਹਜ ਅਨੰਦ ॥ सिफति सलाहणु सहज अनंद ॥ Sifaṯ salāhaṇ sahj anand. In the Lord's Praise and adoration is intuitive peace, poise and bliss. ਸਖਾ ਸੈਨੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ सखा सैनु प्रेमु गोबिंद ॥ Sakẖā sain parem gobinḏ. The Love of the Lord God is one's family and friends. ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦੁ ॥ आपे करे आपे बखसिंदु ॥ Āpe kare āpe bakẖsinḏ. He Himself is the Doer, and He Himself is the Forgiver. ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪਹਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੩॥ तनु मनु हरि पहि आगै जिंदु ॥३॥ Ŧan man har pėh āgai jinḏ. ||3|| My body and mind belong to the Lord; my life is at His Command. ||3|| ਜੋ ਉਪਜੈ ਸੋ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥ जो उपजै सो आवै जाइ ॥ Jo upjai so āvai jā▫e. Whoever is born, continues to come and go. ਝੂਠ ਵਿਕਾਰ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਦੇਹ ॥ झूठ विकार महा दुखु देह ॥ Jẖūṯẖ vikār mahā ḏukẖ ḏeh. Falsehood and corruption cause terrible suffering. ਭੇਖ ਵਰਨ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਖੇਹ ॥ भेख वरन दीसहि सभि खेह ॥ Bẖekẖ varan ḏīsėh sabẖ kẖeh. All the religious robes and social classes look just like dust. ਨਾਨਕ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੪॥੧੧॥ नानक असथिरु नामु रजाइ ॥४॥११॥ Nānak asthir nām rajā▫e. ||4||11|| O Nanak, only the Naam and the Lord's Command are eternal and everlasting. ||4||11||
