Raag Gauree, T’hitee ~ The Lunar Days Of Kabir Jee: ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ सलोकु ॥ Salok. Shalok: ਪੰਦ੍ਰਹ ਥਿਤੀ ਸਾਤ ਵਾਰ ॥ पंद्रह थितीं सात वार ॥ Panḋrėh ṫʰiṫeeⁿ saaṫ vaar. There are fifteen lunar days, and seven days of the week. ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਉਰਵਾਰ ਨ ਪਾਰ ॥ कहि कबीर उरवार न पार ॥ Kahi Kabeer urvaar na paar. Says Kabir, it is neither here nor there. ਸਾਧਿਕ ਸਿਧ ਲਖੈ ਜਉ ਭੇਉ ॥ साधिक सिध लखै जउ भेउ ॥ Saaḋʰik siḋʰ lakʰæ ja▫o bʰé▫o. When the Siddhas and seekers come to know the Lord’s mystery, ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਉ ॥੧॥ आपे करता आपे देउ ॥१॥ Aapé karṫaa aapé ḋé▫o. ||1|| they themselves become the Creator; they themselves become the Divine Lord. ||1|| ਥਿਤੀ ॥ थितीं ॥ Ṫʰiṫeeⁿ. T’hitee: ਅੰਮਾਵਸ ਮਹਿ ਆਸ ਨਿਵਾਰਹੁ ॥ अंमावस महि आस निवारहु ॥ Ammaavas mėh aas nivaarahu. On the day of the new moon, give up your hopes. ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਰਹੁ ॥ अंतरजामी रामु समारहु ॥ Anṫarjaamee raam samaarahu. Remember the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ਜੀਵਤ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰ ॥ जीवत पावहु मोख दुआर ॥ Jeevaṫ paavhu mokʰ ḋu▫aar. You shall attain the Gate of Liberation while still alive. ਅਨਭਉ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਤੁ ਨਿਜੁ ਸਾਰ ॥੧॥ अनभउ सबदु ततु निजु सार ॥१॥ Anbʰa▫o sabaḋ ṫaṫ nij saar. ||1|| You shall come to know the Shabad, the Word of the Fearless Lord, and the essence of your own inner being. ||1|| ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥ चरन कमल गोबिंद रंगु लागा ॥ Charan kamal gobinḋ rang laagaa. One who enshrines love for the Lotus Feet of the Lord of the Universe - ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ संत प्रसादि भए मन निरमल हरि कीरतन महि अनदिनु जागा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Sanṫ parsaaḋ bʰa▫é man nirmal har keerṫan mėh an▫ḋin jaagaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o. by the Grace of the Saints, her mind becomes pure; night and day, she remains awake and aware, singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. ||1||Pause|| ਪਰਿਵਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥ परिवा प्रीतम करहु बीचार ॥ Parivaa pareeṫam karahu beechaar. On the first day of the lunar cycle, contemplate the Beloved Lord. ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਲੈ ਅਘਟ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ घट महि खेलै अघट अपार ॥ Gʰat mėh kʰélæ agʰat apaar. He is playing within the heart; He has no body - He is Infinite. ਕਾਲ ਕਲਪਨਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥ काल कलपना कदे न खाइ ॥ Kaal kalpanaa kaḋé na kʰaa▫é. The pain of death never consumes that person ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਮਹਿ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥ आदि पुरख महि रहै समाइ ॥२॥ Aaḋ purakʰ mėh rahæ samaa▫é. ||2|| who remains absorbed in the Primal Lord God. ||2|| ਦੁਤੀਆ ਦੁਹ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਨੈ ਅੰਗ ॥ दुतीआ दुह करि जानै अंग ॥ Ḋuṫee▫aa ḋuh kar jaanæ ang. On the second day of the lunar cycle, know that there are two beings within the fiber of the body. ਮਾਇਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਰਮੈ ਸਭ ਸੰਗ ॥ माइआ ब्रहम रमै सभ संग ॥ Maa▫i▫aa barahm ramæ sabʰ sang. Maya and God are blended with everything. ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਬਢੈ ਨ ਘਟਤਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ ना ओहु बढै न घटता जाइ ॥ Naa oh badʰæ na gʰatṫaa jaa▫é. God does not increase or decrease. ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥੩॥ अकुल निरंजन एकै भाइ ॥३॥ Akul niranjan ékæ bʰaa▫é. ||3|| He is unknowable and immaculate; He does not change. ||3|| ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਤੀਨੇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਲਿਆਵੈ ॥ त्रितीआ तीने सम करि लिआवै ॥ Ṫariṫee▫aa ṫeené sam kar li▫aavæ. On the third day of the lunar cycle, one who maintains his equilibrium amidst the three modes ਆਨਦ ਮੂਲ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥ आनद मूल परम पदु पावै ॥ Aanaḋ mool param paḋ paavæ. finds the source of ecstasy and the highest status. ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸ ॥ साधसंगति उपजै बिस्वास ॥ Saaḋʰsangaṫ upjæ bisvaas. In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, faith wells up. ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥੪॥ बाहरि भीतरि सदा प्रगास ॥४॥ Baahar bʰeeṫar saḋaa pargaas. ||4|| Outwardly, and deep within, God’s Light is always radiant. ||4|| ਚਉਥਹਿ ਚੰਚਲ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਗਹਹੁ ॥ चउथहि चंचल मन कउ गहहु ॥ Cha▫oṫʰahi chanchal man ka▫o gahhu. On the fourth day of the lunar cycle, restrain your fickle mind, ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਬਹਹੁ ॥ काम क्रोध संगि कबहु न बहहु ॥ Kaam kroḋʰ sang kabahu na bahhu. and do not ever associate with sexual desire or anger. ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਾਹੇ ਆਪਹਿ ਆਪ ॥ जल थल माहे आपहि आप ॥ Jal ṫʰal maahé aapėh aap. On land and sea, He Himself is in Himself. ਆਪੈ ਜਪਹੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਜਾਪ ॥੫॥ आपै जपहु आपना जाप ॥५॥ Aapæ japahu aapnaa jaap. ||5|| He Himself meditates and chants His Chant. ||5|| ਪਾਂਚੈ ਪੰਚ ਤਤ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥ पांचै पंच तत बिसथार ॥ Paaⁿchæ panch ṫaṫ bisṫʰaar. On the fifth day of the lunar cycle, the five elements expand outward. ਕਨਿਕ ਕਾਮਿਨੀ ਜੁਗ ਬਿਉਹਾਰ ॥ कनिक कामिनी जुग बिउहार ॥ Kanik kaaminee jug bi▫uhaar. Men are occupied in the pursuit of gold and women. ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਸੁਧਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ प्रेम सुधा रसु पीवै कोइ ॥ Parém suḋʰaa ras peevæ ko▫é. How rare are those who drink the pure essence of the Lord’s Love. ਜਰਾ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਫੇਰਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥ जरा मरण दुखु फेरि न होइ ॥६॥ Jaraa maraṇ ḋukʰ fér na ho▫é. ||6|| They shall never again suffer the pains of old age and death. ||6|| ਛਠਿ ਖਟੁ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਛਹੂੰ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਇ ॥ छठि खटु चक्र छहूं दिस धाइ ॥ Chʰatʰ kʰat chakar chʰahoo▫aⁿ ḋis ḋʰaa▫é. On the sixth day of the lunar cycle, the six chakras run in six directions. ਬਿਨੁ ਪਰਚੈ ਨਹੀ ਥਿਰਾ ਰਹਾਇ ॥ बिनु परचै नही थिरा रहाइ ॥ Bin parchæ nahee ṫʰiraa rahaa▫é. Without enlightenment, the body does not remain steady. ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਮੇਟਿ ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹਿ ਰਹਹੁ ॥ दुबिधा मेटि खिमा गहि रहहु ॥ Ḋubiḋʰaa mét kʰimaa gėh rahhu. So, erase your duality and hold tight to forgiveness, ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਕੀ ਸੂਲ ਨ ਸਹਹੁ ॥੭॥ करम धरम की सूल न सहहु ॥७॥ Karam ḋʰaram kee sool na sahhu. ||7|| and you will not have to endure the torture of karma or religious rituals. ||7|| ਸਾਤੈਂ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਾਚਾ ਜਾਣਿ ॥ सातैं सति करि बाचा जाणि ॥ Saaṫæⁿ saṫ kar baachaa jaaṇ. On the seventh day of the lunar cycle, know the Word as True, ਆਤਮ ਰਾਮੁ ਲੇਹੁ ਪਰਵਾਣਿ ॥ आतम रामु लेहु परवाणि ॥ Aaṫam raam lého parvaaṇ. and you shall be accepted by the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ਛੂਟੈ ਸੰਸਾ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਦੁਖ ॥ छूटै संसा मिटि जाहि दुख ॥ Chʰootæ sansaa mit jaahi ḋukʰ. Your doubts shall be eradicated, and your pains eliminated, ਸੁੰਨ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਖ ॥੮॥ सुंन सरोवरि पावहु सुख ॥८॥ Sunn sarovar paavhu sukʰ. ||8|| and in the ocean of the celestial void, you shall find peace. ||8|| ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਕੀ ਕਾਇਆ ॥ असटमी असट धातु की काइआ ॥ Astamee asat ḋʰaaṫ kee kaa▫i▫aa. On the eighth day of the lunar cycle, the body is made of the eight ingredients. ਤਾ ਮਹਿ ਅਕੁਲ ਮਹਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥ ता महि अकुल महा निधि राइआ ॥ Ṫaa mėh akul mahaa niḋʰ raa▫i▫aa. Within it is the Unknowable Lord, the King of the supreme treasure. ਗੁਰ ਗਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਬਤਾਵੈ ਭੇਦ ॥ गुर गम गिआन बतावै भेद ॥ Gur gam gi▫aan baṫaavæ bʰéḋ. The Guru, who knows this spiritual wisdom, reveals the secret of this mystery. ਉਲਟਾ ਰਹੈ ਅਭੰਗ ਅਛੇਦ ॥੯॥ उलटा रहै अभंग अछेद ॥९॥ Ultaa rahæ abʰang achʰéḋ. ||9|| Turning away from the world, He abides in the Unbreakable and Impenetrable Lord. ||9|| ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੈ ਦੁਆਰ ਕਉ ਸਾਧਿ ॥ नउमी नवै दुआर कउ साधि ॥ Na▫umee navæ ḋu▫aar ka▫o saaḋʰ. On the ninth day of the lunar cycle, discipline the nine gates of the body. ਬਹਤੀ ਮਨਸਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਬਾਂਧਿ ॥ बहती मनसा राखहु बांधि ॥ Bahṫee mansaa raakʰo baaⁿḋʰ. Keep your pulsating desires restrained. ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਸਭ ਬੀਸਰਿ ਜਾਹੁ ॥ लोभ मोह सभ बीसरि जाहु ॥ Lobʰ moh sabʰ beesar jaahu. Forget all your greed and emotional attachment; ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੀਵਹੁ ਅਮਰ ਫਲ ਖਾਹੁ ॥੧੦॥ जुगु जुगु जीवहु अमर फल खाहु ॥१०॥ Jug jug jeevhu amar fal kʰaahu. ||10|| you shall live throughout the ages, eating the fruit of immortality. ||10|| ਦਸਮੀ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥ दसमी दह दिस होइ अनंद ॥ Ḋasmee ḋah ḋis ho▫é anand. On the tenth day of the lunar cycle, there is ecstasy in all directions. ਛੂਟੈ ਭਰਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥ छूटै भरमु मिलै गोबिंद ॥ Chʰootæ bʰaram milæ gobinḋ. Doubt is dispelled, and the Lord of the Universe is met. ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਤਤ ਅਨੂਪ ॥ जोति सरूपी तत अनूप ॥ Joṫ saroopee ṫaṫ anoop. He is the Embodiment of light, the incomparable essence. ਅਮਲ ਨ ਮਲ ਨ ਛਾਹ ਨਹੀ ਧੂਪ ॥੧੧॥ अमल न मल न छाह नही धूप ॥११॥ Amal na mal na chʰaah nahee ḋʰoop. ||11|| He is stainless, without stain, beyond both sunshine and shade. ||11|| ਏਕਾਦਸੀ ਏਕ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵੈ ॥ एकादसी एक दिस धावै ॥ Ékaaḋasee ék ḋis ḋʰaavæ. On the eleventh day of the lunar cycle, if you run in the direction of the One, ਤਉ ਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਕਟ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥ तउ जोनी संकट बहुरि न आवै ॥ Ṫa▫o jonee sankat bahur na aavæ. you will not have to suffer the pains of reincarnation again. ਸੀਤਲ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਇਆ ਸਰੀਰਾ ॥ सीतल निरमल भइआ सरीरा ॥ Seeṫal nirmal bʰa▫i▫aa sareeraa. Your body will become cool, immaculate and pure. ਦੂਰਿ ਬਤਾਵਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਨੀਰਾ ॥੧੨॥ दूरि बतावत पाइआ नीरा ॥१२॥ Ḋoor baṫaavaṫ paa▫i▫aa neeraa. ||12|| The Lord was said to be far away, but He is found near at hand. ||12|| ਬਾਰਸਿ ਬਾਰਹ ਉਗਵੈ ਸੂਰ ॥ बारसि बारह उगवै सूर ॥ Baaras baarah ugvæ soor. On the twelfth day of the lunar cycle, twelve suns rise. ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰ ॥ अहिनिसि बाजे अनहद तूर ॥ Ahinis baajé anhaḋ ṫoor. Day and night, the celestial bugles vibrate the unstruck melody. ਦੇਖਿਆ ਤਿਹੂੰ ਲੋਕ ਕਾ ਪੀਉ ॥ देखिआ तिहूं लोक का पीउ ॥ Ḋékʰi▫aa ṫihoo▫aⁿ lok kaa pee▫o. Then, one beholds the Father of the three worlds. ਅਚਰਜੁ ਭਇਆ ਜੀਵ ਤੇ ਸੀਉ ॥੧੩॥ अचरजु भइआ जीव ते सीउ ॥१३॥ Achraj bʰa▫i▫aa jeev ṫé see▫o. ||13|| This is wonderful! The human being has become God! ||13|| ਤੇਰਸਿ ਤੇਰਹ ਅਗਮ ਬਖਾਣਿ ॥ तेरसि तेरह अगम बखाणि ॥ Ṫéras ṫérah agam bakʰaaṇ. On the thirteenth day of the lunar cycle, the thirteen holy books proclaim ਅਰਧ ਉਰਧ ਬਿਚਿ ਸਮ ਪਹਿਚਾਣਿ ॥ अरध उरध बिचि सम पहिचाणि ॥ Araḋʰ uraḋʰ bich sam pėhchaaṇ. that you must recognize the Lord in the nether regions of the underworld as well as the heavens. ਨੀਚ ਊਚ ਨਹੀ ਮਾਨ ਅਮਾਨ ॥ नीच ऊच नही मान अमान ॥ Neech ooch nahee maan amaan. There is no high or low, no honor or dishonor. ਬਿਆਪਿਕ ਰਾਮ ਸਗਲ ਸਾਮਾਨ ॥੧੪॥ बिआपिक राम सगल सामान ॥१४॥ Bi▫aapik raam sagal saamaan. ||14|| The Lord is pervading and permeating all. ||14|| ਚਉਦਸਿ ਚਉਦਹ ਲੋਕ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥ चउदसि चउदह लोक मझारि ॥ Cha▫uḋas cha▫oḋah lok majʰaar. On the fourteenth day of the lunar cycle, in the fourteen worlds ਰੋਮ ਰੋਮ ਮਹਿ ਬਸਹਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ॥ रोम रोम महि बसहि मुरारि ॥ Rom rom mėh basėh muraar. and on each and every hair, the Lord abides. ਸਤ ਸੰਤੋਖ ਕਾ ਧਰਹੁ ਧਿਆਨ ॥ सत संतोख का धरहु धिआन ॥ Saṫ sanṫokʰ kaa ḋʰarahu ḋʰi▫aan. Center yourself and meditate on truth and contentment. ਕਥਨੀ ਕਥੀਐ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗਿਆਨ ॥੧੫॥ कथनी कथीऐ ब्रहम गिआन ॥१५॥ Kaṫʰnee kaṫʰee▫æ barahm gi▫aan. ||15|| Speak the speech of God’s spiritual wisdom. ||15|| ਪੂਨਿਉ ਪੂਰਾ ਚੰਦ ਅਕਾਸ ॥ पूनिउ पूरा चंद अकास ॥ Pooni▫o pooraa chanḋ akaas. On the day of the full moon, the full moon fills the heavens. ਪਸਰਹਿ ਕਲਾ ਸਹਜ ਪਰਗਾਸ ॥ पसरहि कला सहज परगास ॥ Pasrahi kalaa sahj pargaas. Its power is diffused through its gentle light. ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਮਧਿ ਹੋਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਥੀਰ ॥ आदि अंति मधि होइ रहिआ थीर ॥ Aaḋ anṫ maḋʰ ho▫é rahi▫aa ṫʰeer. In the beginning, in the end, and in the middle, God remains firm and steady. ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਰਮਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੧੬॥ सुख सागर महि रमहि कबीर ॥१६॥ Sukʰ saagar mėh ramėh Kabeer. ||16|| Kabir is immersed in the ocean of peace. ||16||
