ਮਨ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਚਾਲ ਚਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ मन गुरमति चाल चलावैगो ॥ Man gurmaṫ chaal chalaavægo. O mind, walk on the Path of the Guru’s Teachings. ਕਾਨੜਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥ कानड़ा महला ४ ॥ Kaanṛaa mėhlaa 4. Kaanraa, Fourth Mehl: ਜਿਉ ਮੈਗਲੁ ਮਸਤੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਤਲਿ ਕੁੰਡੇ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जिउ मैगलु मसतु दीजै तलि कुंडे गुर अंकसु सबदु द्रिड़ावैगो ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ji▫o mægal masaṫ ḋeejæ ṫal kundé gur ankas sabaḋ ḋariṛ▫aavægo. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Just as the wild elephant is subdued by the prod, the mind is disciplined by the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||1||Pause|| ਚਲਤੌ ਚਲੈ ਚਲੈ ਦਹ ਦਹ ਦਿਸਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ चलतौ चलै चलै दह दह दिसि गुरु राखै हरि लिव लावैगो ॥ Chalṫou chalæ chalæ ḋah ḋah ḋis gur raakʰæ har liv laavægo. The wandering mind wanders, roams and rambles in the ten directions; but the Guru holds it, and lovingly attunes it to the Lord. ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦੇਇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੁਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੧॥ सतिगुरु सबदु देइ रिद अंतरि मुखि अमृतु नामु चुआवैगो ॥१॥ Saṫgur sabaḋ ḋé▫é riḋ anṫar mukʰ amriṫ naam chu▫aavægo. ||1|| The True Guru implants the Word of the Shabad deep within the heart; the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, trickles into the mouth. ||1|| ਬਿਸੀਅਰ ਬਿਸੂ ਭਰੇ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੁਰੁ ਗਰੁੜ ਸਬਦੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ बिसीअर बिसू भरे है पूरन गुरु गरुड़ सबदु मुखि पावैगो ॥ Bisee▫ar bisoo bʰaré hæ pooran gur garuṛ sabaḋ mukʰ paavægo. The snakes are filled with poisonous venom; the Word of the Guru’s Shabad is the antidote - place it in your mouth. ਮਾਇਆ ਭੁਇਅੰਗ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਝਾਰਿ ਝਾਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੨॥ माइआ भुइअंग तिसु नेड़ि न आवै बिखु झारि झारि लिव लावैगो ॥२॥ Maa▫i▫aa bʰu▫i▫ang ṫis néṛ na aavæ bikʰ jʰaar jʰaar liv laavægo. ||2|| Maya, the serpent, does not even approach one who is rid of the poison, and lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||2|| ਸੁਆਨੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਲਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ सुआनु लोभु नगर महि सबला गुरु खिन महि मारि कढावैगो ॥ Su▫aan lobʰ nagar mėh sablaa gur kʰin mėh maar kadʰaavægo. The dog of greed is very powerful in the village of the body; the Guru strikes it and drives it out in an instant. ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਆਨਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਗਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੩॥ सतु संतोखु धरमु आनि राखे हरि नगरी हरि गुन गावैगो ॥३॥ Saṫ sanṫokʰ ḋʰaram aan raakʰé har nagree har gun gaavægo. ||3|| Truth, contentment, righteousness and Dharma have settled there; in the village of the Lord, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3|| ਪੰਕਜ ਮੋਹ ਨਿਘਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਘਰਤ ਕਾਢਿ ਕਢਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ पंकज मोह निघरतु है प्रानी गुरु निघरत काढि कढावैगो ॥ Pankaj moh nigʰraṫ hæ paraanee gur nigʰraṫ kaadʰ kadʰaavægo. The mortal beings are sinking in the swamp of emotional attachment; the Guru lifts them up, and saves them from sinking. ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਾਹਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਜਨ ਆਏ ਗੁਰੁ ਹਾਥੀ ਦੇ ਨਿਕਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੪॥ त्राहि त्राहि सरनि जन आए गुरु हाथी दे निकलावैगो ॥४॥ Ṫaraahi ṫaraahi saran jan aa▫é gur haaṫʰee ḋé niklaavægo. ||4|| Crying, “Save me! Save me!”, the humble come to His Sanctuary; the Guru reaches out His Hand, and lifts them up. ||4|| ਸੁਪਨੰਤਰੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਸਭੁ ਬਾਜੀ ਖੇਲੁ ਖਿਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ सुपनंतरु संसारु सभु बाजी सभु बाजी खेलु खिलावैगो ॥ Supnanṫar sansaar sabʰ baajee sabʰ baajee kʰél kʰilaavægo. The whole world is like a game in a dream, all a game. God plays and causes the game to be played. ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਲੈ ਚਾਲਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧਾ ਜਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੫॥ लाहा नामु गुरमति लै चालहु हरि दरगह पैधा जावैगो ॥५॥ Laahaa naam gurmaṫ læ chaalahu har ḋargėh pæḋʰaa jaavægo. ||5|| So, earn the Profit of the Naam by following the Guru’s Teachings; you shall go to the Court of the Lord in robes of honor. ||5|| ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰੈ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਪਾਪ ਕੋਇਲੇ ਆਨਿ ਜਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ हउमै करै करावै हउमै पाप कोइले आनि जमावैगो ॥ Ha▫umæ karæ karaavæ ha▫umæ paap ko▫ilé aan jamaavægo. They act in egotism, and make others act in egotism; they collect and gather up the blackness of sin. ਆਇਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਹੋਏ ਜੋ ਬੀਜੇ ਸੋ ਖਵਲਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੬॥ आइआ कालु दुखदाई होए जो बीजे सो खवलावैगो ॥६॥ Aa▫i▫aa kaal ḋukʰ▫ḋaa▫ee ho▫é jo beejé so kʰalaavægo. ||6|| And when death comes, they suffer in agony; they must eat what they have planted. ||6|| ਸੰਤਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਲੈ ਖਰਚੁ ਚਲੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ संतहु राम नामु धनु संचहु लै खरचु चले पति पावैगो ॥ Sanṫahu raam naam ḋʰan sanchahu læ kʰarach chalé paṫ paavægo. O Saints, gather the Wealth of the Lord’s Name; if you depart after packing these provisions, you shall be honored. ਖਾਇ ਖਰਚਿ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਬਹੁਤੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਦੇਦੇ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈਗੋ ॥੭॥ खाइ खरचि देवहि बहुतेरा हरि देदे तोटि न आवैगो ॥७॥ Kʰaa▫é kʰarach ḋévėh bahuṫéraa har ḋéḋé ṫot na aavægo. ||7|| So, eat, spend, consume and give abundantly; the Lord will give - there will be no deficiency. ||7|| ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹੈ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪਾਵੈਗੋ ॥ राम नाम धनु है रिद अंतरि धनु गुर सरणाई पावैगो ॥ Raam naam ḋʰan hæ riḋ anṫar ḋʰan gur sarṇaa▫ee paavægo. The wealth of the Lord’s Name is deep within the heart. In the Sanctuary of the Guru, this wealth is found. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਇਆ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈਗੋ ॥੮॥੫॥ नानक दइआ दइआ करि दीनी दुखु दालदु भंजि समावैगो ॥८॥५॥ Naanak ḋa▫i▫aa ḋa▫i▫aa kar ḋeenee ḋukʰ ḋaalaḋ bʰanj samaavægo. ||8||5|| O Nanak! God has been kind and compassionate; He has blessed me. Removing pain and poverty, He has merged me with Himself. ||8||5|| ਮਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਨਿ ਧਿਆਵੈਗੋ ॥ मनु सतिगुर सरनि धिआवैगो ॥ Man saṫgur saran ḋʰi▫aavægo. O mind, seek the Sanctuary of the True Guru, and meditate.
