ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥ Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਮਲਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ਘਰੁ ੨ ॥ मलार महला ३ असटपदी घरु २ ॥ Malār mėhlā 3 asatpaḏī gẖar 2. Malaar, Third Mehl, Ashtapadees, Second House: ਦੁਖੁ ਪਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥ दुखु पल्हरि हरि नामु वसाए ॥ Ḏukẖ palĥar har nām vasā▫e. His pains are taken away, and the Lord's Name comes to dwell within. ਸਾਚੀ ਗਤਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥ साची गति साचै चितु लाए ॥ Sācẖī gaṯ sācẖai cẖiṯ lā▫e. True deliverance comes by focusing one's consciousness on the True Lord. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰੈ ਲਾਏ ॥ हरि हरि क्रिपा करे गुर की कारै लाए ॥ Har har kirpā kare gur kī kārai lā▫e. When the Lord shows His Mercy, He enjoins the mortal to work for the Guru. ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥੧॥ गुर की बाणी सबदि सुणाए ॥१॥ Gur kī baṇī sabaḏ suṇā▫e. ||1|| Listen to the Shabad, and the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||1|| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ॥ मन मेरे हरि हरि सेवि निधानु ॥ Man mere har har sev niḏẖān. O my mind, serve the Lord, Har, Har, the true treasure. ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ गुर किरपा ते हरि धनु पाईऐ अनदिनु लागै सहजि धिआनु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Gur kirpā ṯe har ḏẖan pā▫ī▫ai an▫ḏin lāgai sahj ḏẖi▫ān. ||1|| rahā▫o. By Guru's Grace, the wealth of the Lord is obtained. Night and day, focus your meditation on the Lord. ||1||Pause|| ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਰੇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ बिनु पिर कामणि करे सींगारु ॥ Bin pir kāmaṇ kare sīʼngār. The soul-bride who adorns herself without her Husband Lord, ਦੁਹਚਾਰਣੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਨਿਤ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥ दुहचारणी कहीऐ नित होइ खुआरु ॥ Ḏuhcẖārṇī kahī▫ai niṯ ho▫e kẖu▫ār. is ill-mannered and vile, wasted away into ruin. ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਾ ਇਹੁ ਬਾਦਿ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥ मनमुख का इहु बादि आचारु ॥ Manmukẖ kā ih bāḏ ācẖār. This is the useless way of life of the self-willed manmukh. ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਵਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥੨॥ बहु करम द्रिड़ावहि नामु विसारि ॥२॥ Baho karam ḏariṛāvėh nām visār. ||2|| Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he performs all sorts of empty rituals. ||2|| ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਬਣਿਆ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ॥ गुरमुखि कामणि बणिआ सीगारु ॥ Gurmukẖ kāmaṇ baṇi▫ā sīgār. The bride who is Gurmukh is beautifully embellished. ਸਬਦੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਰਾਖਿਆ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥ सबदे पिरु राखिआ उर धारि ॥ Sabḏe pir rākẖi▫ā ur ḏẖār. Through the Word of the Shabad, she enshrines her Husband Lord within her heart. ਏਕੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥ एकु पछाणै हउमै मारि ॥ Ėk pacẖẖāṇai ha▫umai mār. She realizes the One Lord, and subdues her ego. ਐਸੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ ऐसे गिआनी बूझहु कोइ ॥ Aise gi▫ānī būjẖhu ko▫e. Only a few spiritual teachers realize this, ਮਨਮੁਖ ਲੋਭਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥ मनमुख लोभि दूजै लोभाइआ ॥ Manmukẖ lobẖ ḏūjai lobẖā▫i▫ā. The greedy self-willed manmukh is attracted and engrossed in duality. ਸੋਭਾਵੰਤੀ ਕਹੀਐ ਨਾਰਿ ॥੩॥ सोभावंती कहीऐ नारि ॥३॥ Sobẖāvanṯī kahī▫ai nār. ||3|| That soul-bride is virtuous and noble. ||3|| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥ बिनु गुर दाते किनै न पाइआ ॥ Bin gur ḏāṯe kinai na pā▫i▫ā. Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord. ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥ बिनु गुर भेटे मुकति न होइ ॥४॥ Bin gur bẖete mukaṯ na ho▫e. ||4|| that without meeting the Guru, liberation is not obtained. ||4|| ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ कहि कहि कहणु कहै सभु कोइ ॥ Kahi kahi kahaṇ kahai sabẖ ko▫e. Everyone tells the stories told by others. ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਮੂਏ ਭਗਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥ बिनु मन मूए भगति न होइ ॥ Bin man mū▫e bẖagaṯ na ho▫e. Without subduing the mind, devotional worship does not come. ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤੀ ਕਮਲ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥ गिआन मती कमल परगासु ॥ Gi▫ān maṯī kamal pargās. When the intellect achieves spiritual wisdom, the heart-lotus blossoms forth. ਤਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੫॥ तितु घटि नामै नामि निवासु ॥५॥ Ŧiṯ gẖat nāmai nām nivās. ||5|| The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to abide in that heart. ||5|| ਹਉਮੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥ हउमै भगति करे सभु कोइ ॥ Ha▫umai bẖagaṯ kare sabẖ ko▫e. In egotism, everyone can pretend to worship God with devotion. ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਆਪੁ ਜਾਣਾਏ ॥ कहि कहि कहणु आपु जाणाए ॥ Kahi kahi kahaṇ āp jāṇā▫e. By speaking and preaching, the mortal only shows off his self-conceit. ਬਿਰਥੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥੬॥ बिरथी भगति सभु जनमु गवाए ॥६॥ Birthī bẖagaṯ sabẖ janam gavā▫e. ||6|| His devotional worship is useless, and his life is a total waste. ||6|| ਨਾ ਮਨੁ ਭੀਜੈ ਨਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ ना मनु भीजै ना सुखु होइ ॥ Nā man bẖījai nā sukẖ ho▫e. But this does not soften the mind, and it does not bring peace. ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥ से भगत सतिगुर मनि भाए ॥ Se bẖagaṯ saṯgur man bẖā▫e. They alone are devotees, who are pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥ अनदिनु नामि रहे लिव लाए ॥ An▫ḏin nām rahe liv lā▫e. Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the Name. ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥ सद ही नामु वेखहि हजूरि ॥ Saḏ hī nām vekẖėh hajūr. They behold the Naam, the Name of the Lord, ever-present, near at hand. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੭॥ गुर कै सबदि रहिआ भरपूरि ॥७॥ Gur kai sabaḏ rahi▫ā bẖarpūr. ||7|| Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||7|| ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇਇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥ आपे बखसे देइ पिआरु ॥ Āpe bakẖse ḏe▫e pi▫ār. God Himself forgives, and bestows His Love. ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਵਡਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥ हउमै रोगु वडा संसारि ॥ Ha▫umai rog vadā sansār. The world is suffering from the terrible disease of egotism. ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਏਹੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਜਾਇ ॥ गुर किरपा ते एहु रोगु जाइ ॥ Gur kirpā ṯe ehu rog jā▫e. By Guru's Grace, this disease is cured. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥੫॥੮॥ नानक साचे साचि समाइ ॥८॥१॥३॥५॥८॥ Nānak sācẖe sācẖ samā▫e. ||8||1||3||5||8|| O Nanak, through the Truth, the mortal remains immersed in the True Lord. ||8||1||3||5||8||
