ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ भैरउ महला ३ ॥ Bʰæro mėhlaa 3. Bhairao, Third Mehl: ਜੋਗੀ ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥ जोगी ग्रिही पंडित भेखधारी ॥ Jogee garihee pandiṫ bʰékʰ▫ḋʰaaree. The Yogis, the householders, the Pandits, the religious scholars, and the beggars in religious robes - ਏ ਸੂਤੇ ਅਪਣੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ए सूते अपणै अहंकारी ॥१॥ É sooṫé apṇæ ahaⁿkaaree. ||1|| they are all asleep in egotism. ||1|| ਮਾਇਆ ਮਦਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਇ ॥ माइआ मदि माता रहिआ सोइ ॥ Maa▫i▫aa maḋ maaṫaa rahi▫aa so▫é. They are asleep, intoxicated with the wine of Maya. ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਮੂਸੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ जागतु रहै न मूसै कोइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Jaagaṫ rahæ na moosæ ko▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o. Only those who remain awake and aware are not robbed. ||1||Pause|| ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ॥ सो जागै जिसु सतिगुरु मिलै ॥ So jaagæ jis saṫgur milæ. One who has met the True Guru, remains awake and aware. ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਓਹੁ ਵਸਗਤਿ ਕਰੈ ॥੨॥ पंच दूत ओहु वसगति करै ॥२॥ Panch ḋooṫ oh vasgaṫ karæ. ||2|| Such a person overpowers the five thieves. ||2|| ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੈ ॥ सो जागै जो ततु बीचारै ॥ So jaagæ jo ṫaṫ beechaaræ. One who contemplates the essence of reality remains awake and aware. ਆਪਿ ਮਰੈ ਅਵਰਾ ਨਹ ਮਾਰੈ ॥੩॥ आपि मरै अवरा नह मारै ॥३॥ Aap maræ avraa nah maaræ. ||3|| He kills his self-conceit, and does not kill anyone else. ||3|| ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ सो जागै जो एको जाणै ॥ So jaagæ jo éko jaaṇæ. One who knows the One Lord remains awake and aware. ਪਰਕਿਰਤਿ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥ परकिरति छोडै ततु पछाणै ॥४॥ Parkiraṫ chʰodæ ṫaṫ pachʰaaṇæ. ||4|| He abandons the service of others, and realizes the essence of reality. ||4|| ਚਹੁ ਵਰਨਾ ਵਿਚਿ ਜਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥ चहु वरना विचि जागै कोइ ॥ Chahu varnaa vich jaagæ ko▫é. Of the four castes, whoever remains awake and aware ਜਮੈ ਕਾਲੈ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥ जमै कालै ते छूटै सोइ ॥५॥ Jamæ kaalæ ṫé chʰootæ so▫é. ||5|| is released from birth and death. ||5|| ਕਹਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਗੈ ਸੋਇ ॥ कहत नानक जनु जागै सोइ ॥ Kahaṫ Naanak jan jaagæ so▫é. Says Nanak, that humble being remains awake and aware, ਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਜਾ ਕੀ ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥੨॥ गिआन अंजनु जा की नेत्री होइ ॥६॥२॥ Gi▫aan anjan jaa kee néṫree ho▫é. ||6||2|| who applies the ointment of spiritual wisdom to his eyes. ||6||2||
