ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਇਕੁ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਆ ॥ मेरै प्रभि साचै इकु खेलु रचाइआ ॥ Méræ parabʰ saachæ ik kʰél rachaa▫i▫aa. My True Lord God has staged a play. ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥ मारू महला ३ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 3. Maaroo, Third Mehl: ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥ कोइ न किस ही जेहा उपाइआ ॥ Ko▫é na kis hee jéhaa upaa▫i▫aa. He has created no one like anyone else. ਆਪੇ ਫਰਕੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਖਿ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧॥ आपे फरकु करे वेखि विगसै सभि रस देही माहा हे ॥१॥ Aapé farak karé vékʰ vigsæ sabʰ ras ḋéhee maahaa hé. ||1|| He made everyone different, and he gazes upon them with pleasure; he placed all the flavors in the body. ||1|| ਵਾਜੈ ਪਉਣੁ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਜਾਏ ॥ वाजै पउणु तै आपि वजाए ॥ vaajæ pa▫uṇ ṫæ aap vajaa▫é. You Yourself vibrate the beat of the breath. ਸਿਵ ਸਕਤੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ सिव सकती देही महि पाए ॥ Siv sakṫee ḋéhee mėh paa▫é. Shiva and Shakti, energy and matter - You have placed them into the body. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਲਟੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੨॥ गुर परसादी उलटी होवै गिआन रतनु सबदु ताहा हे ॥२॥ Gur parsaadee ultee hovæ gi▫aan raṫan sabaḋ ṫaahaa hé. ||2|| By Guru’s Grace, one turns away from the world, and attains the jewel of spiritual wisdom, and the Word of the Shabad. ||2|| ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਆਪੇ ਕੀਆ ॥ अंधेरा चानणु आपे कीआ ॥ Anḋʰéraa chaanaṇ aapé kee▫aa. He Himself created darkness and light. ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥ एको वरतै अवरु न बीआ ॥ Éko varṫæ avar na bee▫aa. He alone is pervasive; there is no other at all. ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਬੁਧਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੩॥ गुर परसादी आपु पछाणै कमलु बिगसै बुधि ताहा हे ॥३॥ Gur parsaadee aap pachʰaaṇæ kamal bigsæ buḋʰ ṫaahaa hé. ||3|| One who realizes his own self - by Guru’s Grace, the lotus of his mind blossoms forth. ||3|| ਅਪਣੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ अपणी गहण गति आपे जाणै ॥ Apṇee gahaṇ gaṫ aapé jaaṇæ. Only He Himself knows His depth and extent. ਹੋਰੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ होरु लोकु सुणि सुणि आखि वखाणै ॥ Hor lok suṇ suṇ aakʰ vakʰaaṇæ. Other people can only listen and hear what is spoken and said. ਗਿਆਨੀ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਾਚੀ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੪॥ गिआनी होवै सु गुरमुखि बूझै साची सिफति सलाहा हे ॥४॥ Gi▫aanee hovæ so gurmukʰ boojʰæ saachee sifaṫ salaahaa hé. ||4|| One who is spiritually wise, understands himself as Gurmukh; he praises the True Lord. ||4|| ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥ देही अंदरि वसतु अपारा ॥ Ḋéhee anḋar vasaṫ apaaraa. Deep within the body is the priceless object. ਆਪੇ ਕਪਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥ आपे कपट खुलावणहारा ॥ Aapé kapat kʰulaavaṇhaaraa. He Himself opens the doors. ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੫॥ गुरमुखि सहजे अमृतु पीवै त्रिसना अगनि बुझाहा हे ॥५॥ Gurmukʰ sėhjé amriṫ peevæ ṫarisnaa agan bujʰaahaa hé. ||5|| The Gurmukh intuitively drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar, and the fire of desire is quenched. ||5|| ਅੰਦਰੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੬॥ अंदरु खोजे सबदु सालाहे बाहरि काहे जाहा हे ॥६॥ Anḋar kʰojé sabaḋ saalaahé baahar kaahé jaahaa hé. ||6|| So, search within yourself, and praise the Shabad. Why run around outside your self? ||6|| ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ विरले कउ गुरु सबदु बुझाए ॥ virlé ka▫o gur sabaḋ bujʰaa▫é. How rare are those who understand, through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ਸਭਿ ਰਸ ਦੇਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਪਾਏ ॥ सभि रस देही अंदरि पाए ॥ Sabʰ ras ḋéhee anḋar paa▫é. He placed all the flavors within the body. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆਇਆ ॥ गुर कै सबदि अमृतु पीआइआ ॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ amriṫ pee▫aa▫i▫aa. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, one drinks in the Ambrosial Nectar. ਵਿਣੁ ਚਾਖੇ ਸਾਦੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥ विणु चाखे सादु किसै न आइआ ॥ viṇ chaakʰé saaḋ kisæ na aa▫i▫aa. Without tasting, no one enjoys the flavor. ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀ ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੭॥ अमृतु पी अमरा पदु होए गुर कै सबदि रसु ताहा हे ॥७॥ Amriṫ pee amraa paḋ ho▫é gur kæ sabaḋ ras ṫaahaa hé. ||7|| The Ambrosial Nectar is drunk, and the immoral status is obtained, when one obtains the sublime essence of the Guru’s Shabad. ||7|| ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਸਭਿ ਗੁਣ ਜਾਣੈ ॥ आपु पछाणै सो सभि गुण जाणै ॥ Aap pachʰaaṇæ so sabʰ guṇ jaaṇæ. One who realizes himself, knows all virtues. ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥ गुर कै सबदि हरि नामु वखाणै ॥ Gur kæ sabaḋ har naam vakʰaaṇæ. Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he chants the Name of the Lord. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੮॥ अनदिनु नामि रता दिनु राती माइआ मोहु चुकाहा हे ॥८॥ An▫ḋin naam raṫaa ḋin raaṫee maa▫i▫aa moh chukaahaa hé. ||8|| Night and day, he remains imbued with the Naam, day and night; he is rid of emotional attachment to Maya. ||8|| ਆਪੇ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸੋਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੯॥ आपे क्रिपा करे सुखदाता गुर कै सबदे सोहा हे ॥९॥ Aapé kirpaa karé sukʰ▫ḋaaṫa gur kæ sabḋé sohaa hé. ||9|| The Lord, the Giver of peace Himself grants His Grace; He exalts and adorns with the Word of the Guru’s Shabad. ||9|| ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥ हउमै मेरा आपु गवाए ॥ Ha▫umæ méraa aap gavaa▫é. egotism, possessiveness and self-conceit are taken away. ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ गुर सेवा ते सभु किछु पाए ॥ Gur sévaa ṫé sabʰ kichʰ paa▫é. Serving the Guru, all things are obtained; ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥ गुर का सबदु अमृत है बाणी ॥ Gur kaa sabaḋ amriṫ hæ baṇee. The Guru’s Shabad is the Ambrosial Bani. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥ अनदिनु हरि का नामु वखाणी ॥ An▫ḋin har kaa naam vakʰaaṇee. Night and day, chant the Name of the Lord. ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਵਸੈ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੋ ਘਟੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥ हरि हरि सचा वसै घट अंतरि सो घटु निरमलु ताहा हे ॥१०॥ Har har sachaa vasæ gʰat anṫar so gʰat nirmal ṫaahaa hé. ||10|| That heart becomes immaculate, which is filled with the True Lord, Har, Har. ||10|| ਸੇਵਕ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਹਿ ॥ सेवक सेवहि सबदि सलाहहि ॥ Sévak sévėh sabaḋ salaahėh. His servants serve, and praise His Shabad. ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥ सदा रंगि राते हरि गुण गावहि ॥ Saḋaa rang raaṫé har guṇ gaavahi. Imbued forever with the color of His Love, they sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਪਰਮਲ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥ आपे बखसे सबदि मिलाए परमल वासु मनि ताहा हे ॥११॥ Aapé bakʰsé sabaḋ milaa▫é parmal vaas man ṫaahaa hé. ||11|| He Himself forgives, and unites them with the Shabad; the fragrance of sandalwood permeates their minds. ||11|| ਸਬਦੇ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਥੇ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥ सबदे अकथु कथे सालाहे ॥ Sabḋé akaṫʰ kaṫʰé saalaahé. Through the Shabad, they speak the Unspoken, and praise the Lord. ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ मनमुखु भूला ठउर न पाए ॥ Manmukʰ bʰoolaa tʰa▫ur na paa▫é. The confused, self-willed Manmukhs find no place of rest. ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੇਪਰਵਾਹੇ ॥ मेरे प्रभ साचे वेपरवाहे ॥ Méré parabʰ saaché véparvaahé. My True Lord God is self-sufficient. ਆਪੇ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਾ ਰਸੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥ आपे गुणदाता सबदि मिलाए सबदै का रसु ताहा हे ॥१२॥ Aapé guṇḋaaṫaa sabaḋ milaa▫é sabḋæ kaa ras ṫaahaa hé. ||12|| The Giver of virtue Himself unites them with the Shabad; they enjoy the sublime essence of the Shabad. ||12|| ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਸੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ जो धुरि लिखिआ सु करम कमाए ॥ Jo ḋʰur likʰi▫aa so karam kamaa▫é. They do those deeds which they are predestined to do. ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਖੋਜੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਤਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥ बिखिआ राते बिखिआ खोजै मरि जनमै दुखु ताहा हे ॥१३॥ Bikʰi▫aa raaṫé bikʰi▫aa kʰojæ mar janmæ ḋukʰ ṫaahaa hé. ||13|| Imbued with poison, they search out poison, and suffer the pains of death and rebirth. ||13|| ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੇ ॥ आपे आपि आपि सालाहे ॥ Aapé aap aap saalaahé. He Himself praises Himself. ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹੇ ॥ तेरे गुण प्रभ तुझ ही माहे ॥ Ṫéré guṇ parabʰ ṫujʰ hee maahé. Your Glorious Virtues are within You alone, God. ਤੂ ਆਪਿ ਸਚਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਆਪੇ ਅਲਖੁ ਅਥਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥ तू आपि सचा तेरी बाणी सची आपे अलखु अथाहा हे ॥१४॥ Ṫoo aap sachaa ṫéree baṇee sachee aapé alakʰ aṫʰaahaa hé. ||14|| You Yourself are True, and True is the Word of Your Bani. You Yourself are invisible and unknowable. ||14|| ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤੇ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥ बिनु गुर दाते कोइ न पाए ॥ Bin gur ḋaaṫé ko▫é na paa▫é. Without the Guru, the Giver, no one finds the Lord, ਲਖ ਕੋਟੀ ਜੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਏ ॥ लख कोटी जे करम कमाए ॥ Lakʰ kotee jé karam kamaa▫é. though one may make hundreds of thousands and millions of attempts. ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥ गुर किरपा ते घट अंतरि वसिआ सबदे सचु सालाहा हे ॥१५॥ Gur kirpaa ṫé gʰat anṫar vasi▫aa sabḋé sach saalaahaa hé. ||15|| By Guru’s Grace, He dwells deep within the heart; through the Shabad, praise the True Lord. ||15|| ਸੇ ਜਨ ਮਿਲੇ ਧੁਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥ से जन मिले धुरि आपि मिलाए ॥ Sé jan milé ḋʰur aap milaa▫é. They alone meet Him, whom the Lord unites with Himself. ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥ साची बाणी सबदि सुहाए ॥ Saachee baṇee sabaḋ suhaa▫é. They are adorned and exalted with the True Word of His Bani, and the Shabad. ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਾਹਾ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੪॥੧੩॥ नानक जनु गुण गावै नित साचे गुण गावह गुणी समाहा हे ॥१६॥४॥१३॥ Naanak jan guṇ gaavæ niṫ saaché guṇ gaavah guṇee samaahaa hé. ||16||4||13|| Servant Nanak continually sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord; singing His Glories, he is immersed in the Glorious Lord of Virtue. ||16||4||13||
