ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ ॥

ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ
जगजीवनु साचा एको दाता ॥
Jagjīvan sācẖā eko ḏāṯā.
One True Lord is the Life of the World, the Great Giver.

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ
गुर सेवा ते सबदि पछाता ॥
Gur sevā ṯe sabaḏ pacẖẖāṯā.
Serving the Guru, through the Word of the Shabad, He is realized.

ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ
मारू महला ३ ॥
Mārū mėhlā 3.
Maaroo, Third Mehl:

ਏਕੋ ਅਮਰੁ ਏਕਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹੀ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
एको अमरु एका पतिसाही जुगु जुगु सिरि कार बणाई हे ॥१॥
Ėko amar ekā paṯisāhī jug jug sir kār baṇā▫ī he. ||1||
There is only One Command, and there is only One Supreme King. In each and every age, He links each to their tasks. ||1||

ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ
सो जनु निरमलु जिनि आपु पछाता ॥
So jan nirmal jin āp pacẖẖāṯā.
That humble being is immaculate, who knows his own self.

ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ
आपे आइ मिलिआ सुखदाता ॥
Āpe ā▫e mili▫ā sukẖ▫ḏāṯa.
The Lord, the Giver of peace, Himself comes and meets him.

ਰਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
रसना सबदि रती गुण गावै दरि साचै पति पाई हे ॥२॥
Rasnā sabaḏ raṯī guṇ gāvai ḏar sācẖai paṯ pā▫ī he. ||2||
His tongue is imbued with the Shabad, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord; he is honored in the Court of the True Lord. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ
गुरमुखि नामि मिलै वडिआई ॥
Gurmukẖ nām milai vadi▫ā▫ī.
The Gurmukh is blessed with the glorious greatness of the Naam.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਿੰਦਕਿ ਪਤਿ ਗਵਾਈ
मनमुखि निंदकि पति गवाई ॥
Manmukẖ ninḏak paṯ gavā▫ī.
The self-willed manmukh, the slanderer, loses his honor.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਰਮ ਹੰਸ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
नामि रते परम हंस बैरागी निज घरि ताड़ी लाई हे ॥३॥
Nām raṯe param hans bairāgī nij gẖar ṯāṛī lā▫ī he. ||3||
Attuned to the Naam, the supreme soul-swans remain detached; in the home of the self, they remain absorbed in deep meditative trance. ||3||

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪੂਰਾ
सबदि मरै सोई जनु पूरा ॥
Sabaḏ marai so▫ī jan pūrā.
That humble being who dies in the Shabad is perfect.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ਸੂਰਾ
सतिगुरु आखि सुणाए सूरा ॥
Saṯgur ākẖ suṇā▫e sūrā.
The brave, heroic True Guru chants and proclaims this.

ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਮਨੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
काइआ अंदरि अम्रित सरु साचा मनु पीवै भाइ सुभाई हे ॥४॥
Kā▫i▫ā anḏar amriṯ sar sācẖā man pīvai bẖā▫e subẖā▫ī he. ||4||
Deep within the body is the true pool of Ambrosial Nectar; the mind drinks it in with loving devotion. ||4||

ਘਰ ਜਲਤੇ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਪਾਏ
घर जलते की खबरि न पाए ॥
Gẖar jalṯe kī kẖabar na pā▫e.
but he does not realize that his own home is on fire.

ਪੜਿ ਪੰਡਿਤੁ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਮਝਾਏ
पड़ि पंडितु अवरा समझाए ॥
Paṛ pandiṯ avrā samjẖā▫e.
The Pandit, the religious scholar, reads and instructs others,

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੜਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे नामु न पाईऐ पड़ि थाके सांति न आई हे ॥५॥
Bin saṯgur seve nām na pā▫ī▫ai paṛ thāke sāʼnṯ na ā▫ī he. ||5||
Without serving the True Guru, the Naam is not obtained. You can read until you are exhausted, but you shall not find peace and tranquility. ||5||

ਇਕਿ ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਇ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ
इकि भसम लगाइ फिरहि भेखधारी ॥
Ik bẖasam lagā▫e firėh bẖekẖ▫ḏẖārī.
Some smear their bodies with ashes, and wander around in religious disguises.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਿਨਿ ਮਾਰੀ
बिनु सबदै हउमै किनि मारी ॥
Bin sabḏai ha▫umai kin mārī.
Without the Word of the Shabad, who has ever subdued egotism?

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਰਹਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੇਖਿ ਭਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
अनदिनु जलत रहहि दिनु राती भरमि भेखि भरमाई हे ॥६॥
An▫ḏin jalaṯ rahėh ḏin rāṯī bẖaram bẖekẖ bẖarmā▫ī he. ||6||
Night and day, they continue burning, day and night; they are deluded and confused by their doubt and religious costumes. ||6||

ਇਕਿ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਮਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਉਦਾਸੀ
इकि ग्रिह कुट्मब महि सदा उदासी ॥
Ik garih kutamb mėh saḏā uḏāsī.
Some, in the midst of their household and family, remain always unattached.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ
सबदि मुए हरि नामि निवासी ॥
Sabaḏ mu▫e har nām nivāsī.
They die in the Shabad, and dwell in the Lord's Name.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
अनदिनु सदा रहहि रंगि राते भै भाइ भगति चितु लाई हे ॥७॥
An▫ḏin saḏā rahėh rang rāṯe bẖai bẖā▫e bẖagaṯ cẖiṯ lā▫ī he. ||7||
Night and day, they remain forever attuned to His Love; they focus their consciousness on loving devotion and the Fear of God. ||7||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ
मनमुखु निंदा करि करि विगुता ॥
Manmukẖ ninḏā kar kar viguṯā.
The self-willed manmukh indulges in slander, and is ruined.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਭਉਕੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕੁਤਾ
अंतरि लोभु भउकै जिसु कुता ॥
Anṯar lobẖ bẖa▫ukai jis kuṯā.
The dog of greed barks within him.

ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ
सचै सबदि सची पति होई ॥
Sacẖai sabaḏ sacẖī paṯ ho▫ī.
Through the True Word of the Shabad, true honor is obtained.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕਦੇ ਛੋਡੈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
जमकालु तिसु कदे न छोडै अंति गइआ पछुताई हे ॥८॥
Jamkāl ṯis kaḏe na cẖẖodai anṯ ga▫i▫ā pacẖẖuṯā▫ī he. ||8||
The Messenger of Death never leaves him, and in the end, he leaves, regretting and repenting. ||8||

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਈ
बिनु नावै मुकति न पावै कोई ॥
Bin nāvai mukaṯ na pāvai ko▫ī.
Without the Name, no one attains liberation.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਐਸੀ ਬਣਤ ਬਣਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
बिनु सतिगुर को नाउ न पाए प्रभि ऐसी बणत बणाई हे ॥९॥
Bin saṯgur ko nā▫o na pā▫e parabẖ aisī baṇaṯ baṇā▫ī he. ||9||
Without the True Guru, no one finds the Name. Such is the making which God has made. ||9||

ਇਕਿ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ
इकि सिध साधिक बहुतु वीचारी ॥
Ik siḏẖ sāḏẖik bahuṯ vīcẖārī.
Some are Siddhas and seekers, and great contemplators.

ਇਕਿ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ
इकि अहिनिसि नामि रते निरंकारी ॥
Ik ahinis nām raṯe nirankārī.
Some remain imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Formless Lord, day and night.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
जिस नो आपि मिलाए सो बूझै भगति भाइ भउ जाई हे ॥१०॥
Jis no āp milā▫e so būjẖai bẖagaṯ bẖā▫e bẖa▫o jā▫ī he. ||10||
He alone understands, whom the Lord unites with Himself; through loving devotional worship, fear is dispelled. ||10||

ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਹਿ
इसनानु दानु करहि नही बूझहि ॥
Isnān ḏān karahi nahī būjẖėh.
Some take cleansing baths and give donations to charities, but they do not understand.

ਇਕਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝਹਿ
इकि मनूआ मारि मनै सिउ लूझहि ॥
Ik manū▫ā mār manai si▫o lūjẖėh.
Some struggle with their minds, and conquer and subdue their minds.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਇਕ ਰੰਗੀ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
साचै सबदि रते इक रंगी साचै सबदि मिलाई हे ॥११॥
Sācẖai sabaḏ raṯe ik rangī sācẖai sabaḏ milā▫ī he. ||11||
Some are imbued with love for the True Word of the Shabad; they merge with the True Shabad. ||11||

ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ
आपे सिरजे दे वडिआई ॥
Āpe sirje ḏe vadi▫ā▫ī.
He Himself creates and bestows glorious greatness.

ਆਪੇ ਭਾਣੈ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਈ
आपे भाणै देइ मिलाई ॥
Āpe bẖāṇai ḏe▫e milā▫ī.
By the Pleasure of His Will, He bestows union.

ਆਪੇ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਇਉ ਫੁਰਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
आपे नदरि करे मनि वसिआ मेरै प्रभि इउ फुरमाई हे ॥१२॥
Āpe naḏar kare man vasi▫ā merai parabẖ i▫o furmā▫ī he. ||12||
Bestowing His Grace, He comes to dwell in the mind; such is the Command ordained by my God. ||12||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਾਚੇ
सतिगुरु सेवहि से जन साचे ॥
Saṯgur sevėh se jan sācẖe.
Those humble beings who serve the True Guru are true.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਕਾਚੇ
मनमुख सेवि न जाणनि काचे ॥
Manmukẖ sev na jāṇan kācẖe.
The false, self-willed manmukhs do not know how to serve the Guru.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
आपे करता करि करि वेखै जिउ भावै तिउ लाई हे ॥१३॥
Āpe karṯā kar kar vekẖai ji▫o bẖāvai ṯi▫o lā▫ī he. ||13||
The Creator Himself creates the creation and watches over it; he attaches all according to the Pleasure of His Will. ||13||

ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਏਕੋ ਦਾਤਾ
जुगि जुगि साचा एको दाता ॥
Jug jug sācẖā eko ḏāṯā.
In each and every age, the True Lord is the one and only Giver.

ਪੂਰੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਤਾ
पूरै भागि गुर सबदु पछाता ॥
Pūrai bẖāg gur sabaḏ pacẖẖāṯā.
Through perfect destiny, one realizes the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
सबदि मिले से विछुड़े नाही नदरी सहजि मिलाई हे ॥१४॥
Sabaḏ mile se vicẖẖuṛe nāhī naḏrī sahj milā▫ī he. ||14||
Those who are immersed in the Shabad are not separated again. By His Grace, they are intuitively immersed in the Lord. ||14||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ
हउमै माइआ मैलु कमाइआ ॥
Ha▫umai mā▫i▫ā mail kamā▫i▫ā.
Acting in egotism, they are stained with the filth of Maya.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਇਆ
मरि मरि जमहि दूजा भाइआ ॥
Mar mar jamėh ḏūjā bẖā▫i▫ā.
They die and die again, only to be reborn in the love of duality.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਮਨਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे मुकति न होई मनि देखहु लिव लाई हे ॥१५॥
Bin saṯgur seve mukaṯ na ho▫ī man ḏekẖhu liv lā▫ī he. ||15||
Without serving the True Guru, no one finds liberation. O mind, tune into this, and see. ||15||
