ਸਸਤ੍ਰਿ ਤੀਖਣਿ ਕਾਟਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਕੀਨੋ ਰੋਸੁ ॥ ससत्रि तीखणि काटि डारिओ मनि न कीनो रोसु ॥ Sasṫar ṫeekʰaṇ kaat ḋaari▫o man na keeno ros. The sharp tool cuts down the tree, but it does not feel anger in its mind. ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥ मारू महला ५ ॥ Maaroo mėhlaa 5. Maaroo, Fifth Mehl: ਕਾਜੁ ਉਆ ਕੋ ਲੇ ਸਵਾਰਿਓ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਦੀਨੋ ਦੋਸੁ ॥੧॥ काजु उआ को ले सवारिओ तिलु न दीनो दोसु ॥१॥ Kaaj u▫aa ko lé savaari▫o ṫil na ḋeeno ḋos. ||1|| It serves the purpose of the cutter, and does not blame him at all. ||1|| ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤਿ ॥ मन मेरे राम रउ नित नीति ॥ Man méré raam ra▫o niṫ neeṫ. O my mind! Continually, continuously, meditate on the Lord. ਦਇਆਲ ਦੇਵ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸੁਨਿ ਸੰਤਨਾ ਕੀ ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥ दइआल देव क्रिपाल गोबिंद सुनि संतना की रीति ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥ Ḋa▫i▫aal ḋév kirpaal gobinḋ sun sanṫnaa kee reeṫ. ||1|| rahaa▫o. The Lord of the Universe is merciful, divine and compassionate. Listen - this is the way of the Saints. ||1||Pause|| ਚਰਣ ਤਲੈ ਉਗਾਹਿ ਬੈਸਿਓ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥ चरण तलै उगाहि बैसिओ स्रमु न रहिओ सरीरि ॥ Charaṇ ṫalæ ugaahi bæsi▫o saram na rahi▫o sareer. He plants his feet in the boat, and then sits down in it; the fatigue of his body is relieved. ਮਹਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਨਹ ਵਿਆਪੈ ਖਿਨਹਿ ਉਤਰਿਓ ਤੀਰਿ ॥੨॥ महा सागरु नह विआपै खिनहि उतरिओ तीरि ॥२॥ Mahaa saagar nah vi▫aapæ kʰinėh uṫri▫o ṫeer. ||2|| The great ocean does not even affect him; in an instant, he arrives on the other shore. ||2|| ਚੰਦਨ ਅਗਰ ਕਪੂਰ ਲੇਪਨ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥ चंदन अगर कपूर लेपन तिसु संगे नही प्रीति ॥ Chanḋan agar kapoor lépan ṫis sangé nahee pareeṫ. Sandalwood, aloe, and camphor-paste - the earth does not love them. ਬਿਸਟਾ ਮੂਤ੍ਰ ਖੋਦਿ ਤਿਲੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਮਨੀ ਬਿਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੩॥ बिसटा मूत्र खोदि तिलु तिलु मनि न मनी बिपरीति ॥३॥ Bistaa mooṫar kʰoḋ ṫil ṫil man na manee bipreeṫ. ||3|| And it doesn’t mind if someone digs it up bit by bit, and applies manure and urine to it. ||3|| ਊਚ ਨੀਚ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੰਲਗਨ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਛਤ੍ਰ ॥ ऊच नीच बिकार सुक्रित संलगन सभ सुख छत्र ॥ Ooch neech bikaar sukariṫ saⁿlgan sabʰ sukʰ chʰaṫar. High and low, bad and good - the comforting canopy of the sky stretches evenly over all. ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਕਛੂ ਜਾਨੈ ਸਰਬ ਜੀਅ ਸਮਤ ॥੪॥ मित्र सत्रु न कछू जानै सरब जीअ समत ॥४॥ Miṫar saṫar na kachʰoo jaanæ sarab jee▫a samaṫ. ||4|| It knows nothing of friend and enemy; all beings are alike to it. ||4|| ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਚੰਡ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਓ ਅੰਧਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥ करि प्रगासु प्रचंड प्रगटिओ अंधकार बिनास ॥ Kar pargaas parchand pargati▫o anḋʰkaar binaas. Blazing with its dazzling light, the sun rises, and dispels the darkness. ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਪਵਿਤ੍ਰਹ ਕਿਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਮਨਿ ਨ ਭਇਓ ਬਿਖਾਦੁ ॥੫॥ पवित्र अपवित्रह किरण लागे मनि न भइओ बिखादु ॥५॥ Paviṫar apviṫrėh kiraṇ laagé man na bʰa▫i▫o bikʰaaḋ. ||5|| Touching both the pure and the impure, it harbors no hatred to any. ||5|| ਸੀਤ ਮੰਦ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਚਲਿਓ ਸਰਬ ਥਾਨ ਸਮਾਨ ॥ सीत मंद सुगंध चलिओ सरब थान समान ॥ Seeṫ manḋ suganḋʰ chali▫o sarab ṫʰaan samaan. The cool and fragrant wind gently blows upon all places alike. ਜਹਾ ਸਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਹਾ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਸੰਕਾ ਮਾਨ ॥੬॥ जहा सा किछु तहा लागिओ तिलु न संका मान ॥६॥ Jahaa saa kichʰ ṫahaa laagi▫o ṫil na sankaa maan. ||6|| Wherever anything is, it touches it there, and does not hesitate a bit. ||6|| ਸੁਭਾਇ ਅਭਾਇ ਜੁ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੀਤੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਜਾਇ ॥ सुभाइ अभाइ जु निकटि आवै सीतु ता का जाइ ॥ Subʰaa▫é abʰaa▫é jo nikat aavæ seeṫ ṫaa kaa jaa▫é. Good or bad, whoever comes close to the fire - his cold is taken away. ਆਪ ਪਰ ਕਾ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੭॥ आप पर का कछु न जाणै सदा सहजि सुभाइ ॥७॥ Aap par kaa kachʰ na jaaṇæ saḋaa sahj subʰaa▫é. ||7|| It knows nothing of its own or others’; it is constant in the same quality. ||7|| ਚਰਣ ਸਰਣ ਸਨਾਥ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਲਾਲ ॥ चरण सरण सनाथ इहु मनु रंगि राते लाल ॥ Charaṇ saraṇ sanaaṫʰ ih man rang raaṫé laal. Whoever seeks the Sanctuary of the feet of the Sublime Lord - his mind is attuned to the Love of the Beloved. ਗੋਪਾਲ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥੮॥੩॥ गोपाल गुण नित गाउ नानक भए प्रभ किरपाल ॥८॥३॥ Gopaal guṇ niṫ gaa▫o Naanak bʰa▫é parabʰ kirpaal. ||8||3|| Constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the World, O Nanak! God becomes merciful to us. ||8||3||
