‘Mehmaa’ is a name. Mehmaa and Hasnaa were two Rajput chieftains; Mehmaa was a resident of Kangra and Hasnaa was from Dhaula. Hasnaa cunningly got Mehmaa imprisoned by Akbar; but Mehmaa pleased the emperor by showing his bravery he led the royal army to attack Hasnaa. The two sides fought for a long time and finally Mehmaa was victorious. Subsequently, the bards wrote a long poem ‘Vaar’ regarding this battle that was then sung in a certain tune. Guru Amardas Ji has given direction to sing his one ‘Vaar’ in the same tune.
