ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੋ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
मनमुख माइआ मोहु है नामि न लगो पिआरु ॥
Manmukẖ mā▫i▫ā moh hai nām na lago pi▫ār.
An apostate loves wealth and enshrines not affection for the Name.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਰੇ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥
कूड़ु कमावै कूड़ु संग्रहै कूड़ु करे आहारु ॥
Kūṛ kamāvai kūṛ sangrahai kūṛ kare āhār.
He practises falsehood, amasses falsehood, and falsehood he makes his sustenance.

ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
बिखु माइआ धनु संचि मरहि अंते होइ सभु छारु ॥
Bikẖ mā▫i▫ā ḏẖan sancẖ marėh anṯe ho▫e sabẖ cẖẖār.
He amasses the poisonous worldly wealth and dies. This wealth in the end, is all reduced to ashes.

ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
करम धरम सुच संजम करहि अंतरि लोभु विकारु ॥
Karam ḏẖaram sucẖ sanjam karahi anṯar lobẖ vikār.
He, practises religious deeds, purity and self-mortification, but in his mind are greed and sin.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿ ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
नानक जि मनमुखु कमावै सु थाइ ना पवै दरगहि होइ खुआरु ॥२॥
Nānak jė manmukẖ kamāvai so thā▫e nā pavai ḏargahi ho▫e kẖu▫ār. ||2||
Nanak whatever the way ward person does, that becomes not acceptable and he is dishonoured in Lord's court.

ਆਪੇ ਖਾਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਆਪੇ ਖੰਡ ਵਰਭੰਡ ਕਰੇ ॥
आपे खाणी आपे बाणी आपे खंड वरभंड करे ॥
Āpe kẖāṇī āpe baṇī āpe kẖand varbẖand kare.
The Lord Himself created the four sources of creation, Himself the power of speech and Himself the worlds and solar systems.

ਆਪਿ ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਤਨ ਧਰੇ ॥
आपि समुंदु आपि है सागरु आपे ही विचि रतन धरे ॥
Āp samunḏ āp hai sāgar āpe hī vicẖ raṯan ḏẖare.
He Himself is the ocean, Himself the sea and Himself puts pearls therein.

ਆਪਿ ਲਹਾਏ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਹਰੇ ॥
आपि लहाए करे जिसु किरपा जिस नो गुरमुखि करे हरे ॥
Āp lahā▫e kare jis kirpā jis no gurmukẖ kare hare.
He, whom, God makes a pious person, him He Himself mercifully enables to find these pearls.

ਆਪੇ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਬੋਹਿਥਾ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਵਟੁ ਆਪਿ ਤਰੇ ॥
आपे भउजलु आपि है बोहिथा आपे खेवटु आपि तरे ॥
Āpe bẖa▫ojal āp hai bohithā āpe kẖevat āp ṯare.
Himself is He the terrible ocean, Himself the ship, Himself the helmsman and Himself He ferries across.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੁਝੈ ਸਰੇ ॥੯॥
आपे करे कराए करता अवरु न दूजा तुझै सरे ॥९॥
Āpe kare karā▫e karṯā avar na ḏūjā ṯujẖai sare. ||9||
The Creator Himself does and causes others to do. None else can equal Thee, O Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਫਲ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਰੇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
सतिगुर की सेवा सफल है जे को करे चितु लाइ ॥
Saṯgur kī sevā safal hai je ko kare cẖiṯ lā▫e.
Fruitful is the service of the True Guru, if someone does it with a devoted mind.
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਅਚਿੰਤੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
नामु पदारथु पाईऐ अचिंतु वसै मनि आइ ॥
Nām paḏārath pā▫ī▫ai acẖinṯ vasai man ā▫e.
Through it the Name's wealth is obtained and the Lord spontaneously comes to abide in man's mind.

ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
जनम मरन दुखु कटीऐ हउमै ममता जाइ ॥
Janam maran ḏukẖ katī▫ai ha▫umai mamṯā jā▫e.
The pain of birth and death is eradicated and one is rid of egotism and egoism.

ਉਤਮ ਪਦਵੀ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਚੇ ਰਹੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
उतम पदवी पाईऐ सचे रहै समाइ ॥
Uṯam paḏvī pā▫ī▫ai sacẖe rahai samā▫e.
He attains to the supreme status and remains absorbed in the True Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥੧॥
नानक पूरबि जिन कउ लिखिआ तिना सतिगुरु मिलिआ आइ ॥१॥
Nānak pūrab jin ka▫o likẖi▫ā ṯinā saṯgur mili▫ā ā▫e. ||1||
Nanak, the True Guru comes and meets those, who are so pre-destined.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਕਲਿਜੁਗ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
नामि रता सतिगुरू है कलिजुग बोहिथु होइ ॥
Nām raṯā saṯgurū hai kalijug bohith ho▫e.
The True Guru is imbued with the Name and He is the ship in this Dark Age.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਵੈ ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
गुरमुखि होवै सु पारि पवै जिना अंदरि सचा सोइ ॥
Gurmukẖ hovai so pār pavai jinā anḏar sacẖā so▫e.
He, who becomes Guru-ward and within whom abides He, the True Lord, crosses the world ocean.

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮ੍ਹ੍ਹਾਲੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਗ੍ਰਹੈ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
नामु सम्हाले नामु संग्रहै नामे ही पति होइ ॥
Nām samĥāle nām sangrahai nāme hī paṯ ho▫e.
He remembers the Name, amasses the Name and attains honour from the Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
नानक सतिगुरु पाइआ करमि परापति होइ ॥२॥
Nānak saṯgur pā▫i▫ā karam parāpaṯ ho▫e. ||2||
Nanak has found the True Guru and by his grace has obtained the Lord's Name.

ਆਪੇ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਧਾਤੁ ਹੈ ਆਪਿ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਕੰਚਨੁ ॥
आपे पारसु आपि धातु है आपि कीतोनु कंचनु ॥
Āpe pāras āp ḏẖāṯ hai āp kīṯon kancẖan.
God Himself is the philosopher's stone, Himself the metal and Himself He transforms it into gold.

ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨੁ ॥
आपे ठाकुरु सेवकु आपे आपे ही पाप खंडनु ॥
Āpe ṯẖākur sevak āpe āpe hī pāp kẖandan.
Himself is He the Lord, Himself an attendant and Himself is He the Destroyer of sins.

ਆਪੇ ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਸਭੁ ਅੰਜਨੁ ॥
आपे सभि घट भोगवै सुआमी आपे ही सभु अंजनु ॥
Āpe sabẖ gẖat bẖogvai su▫āmī āpe hī sabẖ anjan.
Himself the Lord enjoys all the heart and Himself is He the embodiment of all illusion.

ਆਪਿ ਬਿਬੇਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਭੁ ਬੇਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭੰਜਨੁ ॥
आपि बिबेकु आपि सभु बेता आपे गुरमुखि भंजनु ॥
Āp bibek āp sabẖ beṯā āpe gurmukẖ bẖanjan.
He Himself is the Discerner, Himself the knower of all of and Himself He breaks the bonds of the holymen.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਨ ਰਜੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਕਰਤੇ ਤੂ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਵਡਨੁ ॥੧੦॥
जनु नानकु सालाहि न रजै तुधु करते तू हरि सुखदाता वडनु ॥१०॥
Jan Nānak sālāhi na rajai ṯuḏẖ karṯe ṯū har sukẖ▫ḏāṯa vadan. ||10||
Slave Nanak is not satiated by praising Thee, O God, the Creator. Thou art the great Bestower of bliss.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੇ ਬੰਧਨਾ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे जीअ के बंधना जेते करम कमाहि ॥
Bin saṯgur seve jī▫a ke banḏẖnā jeṯe karam kamāhi.
Without the True Guru's service, all the deeds, which one does are chains for the soul.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਠਵਰ ਨ ਪਾਵਹੀ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे ठवर न पावही मरि जमहि आवहि जाहि ॥
Bin saṯgur seve ṯẖavar na pāvhī mar jamėh āvahi jāhi.
Sans serving the True Guru, man finds no place of rest. He dies to be born again and continues coming and going.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਫਿਕਾ ਬੋਲਣਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे फिका बोलणा नामु न वसै मनि आइ ॥
Bin saṯgur seve fikā bolṇā nām na vasai man ā▫e.
Sans service the True Guru, one talks insipidly and the Name is enshrined not in his mind.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਬਧੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
नानक बिनु सतिगुर सेवे जम पुरि बधे मारीअहि मुहि कालै उठि जाहि ॥१॥
Nānak bin saṯgur seve jam pur baḏẖe mārī▫ah muhi kālai uṯẖ jāhi. ||1||
Nanak, without the service of the True Guru, the mortals depart with the blackened faces and after being bound down are beaten in the city of death.

ਇਕਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
इकि सतिगुर की सेवा करहि चाकरी हरि नामे लगै पिआरु ॥
Ik saṯgur kī sevā karahi cẖākrī har nāme lagai pi▫ār.
Some there is who wait upon and serve the True Guru, They, come to embrace love for God's Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਵਾਰਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੁਲ ਕਾ ਕਰਨਿ ਉਧਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
नानक जनमु सवारनि आपणा कुल का करनि उधारु ॥२॥
Nānak janam savāran āpṇā kul kā karan uḏẖār. ||2||
Nanak, they reform their own life and save their generations as well.

ਆਪੇ ਚਾਟਸਾਲ ਆਪਿ ਹੈ ਪਾਧਾ ਆਪੇ ਚਾਟੜੇ ਪੜਣ ਕਉ ਆਣੇ ॥
आपे चाटसाल आपि है पाधा आपे चाटड़े पड़ण कउ आणे ॥
Āpe cẖātsāl āp hai pāḏẖā āpe cẖātṛe paṛaṇ ka▫o āṇe.
The Lord Himself is the school, Himself the teacher and Himself brings the pupils to be coached.

ਆਪੇ ਪਿਤਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਆਣੇ ॥
आपे पिता माता है आपे आपे बालक करे सिआणे ॥
Āpe piṯā māṯā hai āpe āpe bālak kare si▫āṇe.
He Himself is the Father, Himself the Mother and Himself He makes the children wise.

ਇਕ ਥੈ ਪੜਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਇਕ ਥੈ ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਇਆਣੇ ॥
इक थै पड़ि बुझै सभु आपे इक थै आपे करे इआणे ॥
Ik thai paṛ bujẖai sabẖ āpe ik thai āpe kare i▫āṇe.
In one place He Himself enables people to read and understand everything in another place Himself He makes them puerile.

ਇਕਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ਜਾ ਆਪਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਚੇ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
इकना अंदरि महलि बुलाए जा आपि तेरै मनि सचे भाणे ॥
Iknā anḏar mahal bulā▫e jā āp ṯerai man sacẖe bẖāṇe.
Some, when they become pleasing to Thy mind, O True Lord, thou callest within Thine mansion.
