ਕਿਉ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਹੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਾਧਹੁ ਘਰੀ ਮੁਹਤਕ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥
किउ न अराधहु मिलि करि साधहु घरी मुहतक बेला आई ॥
Ki▫o na ārāḏẖahu mil kar sāḏẖahu gẖarī muhṯak belā ā▫ī.
Meeting with the saint, why contemplate not thy Lord, O man? In an instant and a moment, thy time of death is to arrive.

ਅਰਥੁ ਦਰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕਛਹੂ ਜਾਈ ॥
अरथु दरबु सभु जो किछु दीसै संगि न कछहू जाई ॥
Arath ḏarab sabẖ jo kicẖẖ ḏīsai sang na kacẖẖhū jā▫ī.
Of all the property, wealth and whatever is seen, naught shall go with thee.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਉਪਮਾ ਦੇਉ ਕਵਨ ਬਡਾਈ ॥੨॥
कहु नानक हरि हरि आराधहु कवन उपमा देउ कवन बडाई ॥२॥
Kaho Nānak har har ārāḏẖahu kavan upmā ḏe▫o kavan badā▫ī. ||2||
Says Nanak, remember thou thy Lord God what praise and what commendation can I attribute to my God?

ਪੂਛਉ ਸੰਤ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥
पूछउ संत मेरो ठाकुरु कैसा ॥
Pūcẖẖa▫o sanṯ mero ṯẖākur kaisā.
I ask the saints, as to what my Lord is like?

ਹੀਉ ਅਰਾਪਉਂ ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ॥
हींउ अरापउं देहु सदेसा ॥
Hīʼn▫o arāpa▫uʼn ḏeh saḏesā.
I surrender my soul to him, who gives me His news.

ਦੇਹੁ ਸਦੇਸਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਕੈਸਾ ਕਹ ਮੋਹਨ ਪਰਵੇਸਾ ॥
देहु सदेसा प्रभ जीउ कैसा कह मोहन परवेसा ॥
Ḏeh saḏesā parabẖ jī▫o kaisā kah mohan parvesā.
Give thou me His news and tell me what kind is my sire Master and where He, the Bewitcher, does reside?

ਅੰਗ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੂਰਨ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਈ ਥਾਨ ਥਾਨੰਤਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥
अंग अंग सुखदाई पूरन ब्रहमाई थान थानंतर देसा ॥
Ang ang sukẖ▫ḏā▫ī pūran barahmā▫ī thān thānanṯar ḏesā.
In all the bodies, places, interspaces and countries, He, the peace-giving Perfect Lord is pervading.

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਜੁਗਤਾ ਕਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ॥
बंधन ते मुकता घटि घटि जुगता कहि न सकउ हरि जैसा ॥
Banḏẖan ṯe mukṯā gẖat gẖat jugṯā kahi na saka▫o har jaisā.
He is free from bonds and is united with all hearts, I can say not, who else is like my Lord?

ਦੇਖਿ ਚਰਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਪੂਛੈ ਦੀਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥੩॥
देखि चरित नानक मनु मोहिओ पूछै दीनु मेरो ठाकुरु कैसा ॥३॥
Ḏekẖ cẖariṯ Nānak man mohi▫o pūcẖẖai ḏīn mero ṯẖākur kaisā. ||3||
Seeing His wondrous plays, Nanak's soul is fascinated. I, the meek one, ask as to of what kind is my Lord?
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
करि किरपा अपुने पहि आइआ ॥
Kar kirpā apune pėh ā▫i▫ā.
Showing His mercy, the Lord has come to His slave.
|
ਧੰਨਿ ਸੁ ਰਿਦਾ ਜਿਹ ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥
धंनि सु रिदा जिह चरन बसाइआ ॥
Ḏẖan so riḏā jih cẖaran basā▫i▫ā.
Blessed is the mind, wherein are enshrined the Lord's feet.

ਚਰਨ ਬਸਾਇਆ ਸੰਤ ਸੰਗਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
चरन बसाइआ संत संगाइआ अगिआन अंधेरु गवाइआ ॥
Cẖaran basā▫i▫ā sanṯ sangā▫i▫ā agi▫ān anḏẖer gavā▫i▫ā.
Through the saints ' society, the Lord's feet are enshrined in man's heart and the darkness of his spiritual ignorance is dispelled,

ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਉਲਾਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲੋੜੀਦਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
भइआ प्रगासु रिदै उलासु प्रभु लोड़ीदा पाइआ ॥
Bẖa▫i▫ā pargās riḏai ulās parabẖ loṛīḏā pā▫i▫ā.
His mind is illumined and enraptured, and he home and he is blessed with supreme bliss and poise.

ਦੁਖੁ ਨਾਠਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਵੂਠਾ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਸਹਜਾਇਆ ॥
दुखु नाठा सुखु घर महि वूठा महा अनंद सहजाइआ ॥
Ḏukẖ nāṯẖā sukẖ gẖar mėh vūṯẖā mahā anand sėhjā▫i▫ā.
His pain hastens away, peace abides in his home and he is blessed with supreme bliss and poise.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਪਹਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
कहु नानक मै पूरा पाइआ करि किरपा अपुने पहि आइआ ॥४॥१॥
Kaho Nānak mai pūrā pā▫i▫ā kar kirpā apune pėh ā▫i▫ā. ||4||1||
Says Nanak, I have attained unto my Perfect Master, who, in his mercy, has come to his slave.

ਸਾਰੰਗ ਕੀ ਵਾਰ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ਰਾਇ ਮਹਮੇ ਹਸਨੇ ਕੀ ਧੁਨਿ
सारंग की वार महला ४ राइ महमे हसने की धुनि
Sārang kī vār mėhlā 4 rā▫e mahme hasne kī ḏẖuian
There is but One God. By the True Guru's grace, He is obtained.

ਗੁਰੁ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਪਾਹੂ ਨਿਵਲੁ ਮਨੁ ਕੋਠਾ ਤਨੁ ਛਤਿ ॥
गुरु कुंजी पाहू निवलु मनु कोठा तनु छति ॥
Gur kunjī pāhū nival man koṯẖā ṯan cẖẖaṯ.
The body-roofed mind's house is locked with the lock of mammonish attachment and it s key is with the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਨ ਕਾ ਤਾਕੁ ਨ ਉਘੜੈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਕੁੰਜੀ ਹਥਿ ॥੧॥
नानक गुर बिनु मन का ताकु न उघड़ै अवर न कुंजी हथि ॥१॥
Nānak gur bin man kā ṯāk na ugẖ▫ṛai avar na kunjī hath. ||1||
Nanak, without the Guru, the mind's door is opened not, since the key is in no one else's hand.

ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰਾਗੀ ਨਾਦੀ ਬੇਦਿ ॥
न भीजै रागी नादी बेदि ॥
Na bẖījai rāgī nāḏī beḏ.
The Lord is pleased not by making music, tuning musical instrument and reading the Vedas.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਜੋਗਿ ॥
न भीजै सुरती गिआनी जोगि ॥
Na bẖījai surṯī gi▫ānī jog.
Through wisdom, knowledge and Yoga, He is pleased not.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਸੋਗੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਰੋਜਿ ॥
न भीजै सोगी कीतै रोजि ॥
Na bẖījai sogī kīṯai roj.
The Lord is pleased not by ever felling sorrow.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਰੂਪੀ ਮਾਲੀ ਰੰਗਿ ॥
न भीजै रूपीं मालीं रंगि ॥
Na bẖījai rūpīʼn mālīʼn rang.
He is pleased not with beauty, wealth and revelments.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਭਵਿਐ ਨੰਗਿ ॥
न भीजै तीरथि भविऐ नंगि ॥
Na bẖījai ṯirath bẖavi▫ai nang.
He is pleased not by wandering naked at the places of pilgrimage.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਦਾਤੀ ਕੀਤੈ ਪੁੰਨਿ ॥
न भीजै दातीं कीतै पुंनि ॥
Na bẖījai ḏāṯīʼn kīṯai punn.
By giving gifts and alms, the Lord is softened not.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਬੈਠਿਆ ਸੁੰਨਿ ॥
न भीजै बाहरि बैठिआ सुंनि ॥
Na bẖījai bāhar baiṯẖi▫ā sunn.
Sitting outside alone in wilderness, He is softened not.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਭੇੜਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਭਿੜਿ ਸੂਰ ॥
न भीजै भेड़ि मरहि भिड़ि सूर ॥
Na bẖījai bẖeṛ marėh bẖiṛ sūr.
Fighting to death as a warrior in a battle, the Lord is melted not.
|
ਨ ਭੀਜੈ ਕੇਤੇ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਧੂੜ ॥
न भीजै केते होवहि धूड़ ॥
Na bẖījai keṯe hovėh ḏẖūṛ.
Becoming the dust of the feet of many, He is melted not.
|
ਲੇਖਾ ਲਿਖੀਐ ਮਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
लेखा लिखीऐ मन कै भाइ ॥
Lekẖā likī▫ai man kai bẖā▫e.
The account of hearty love alone is writ there.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੀਜੈ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक भीजै साचै नाइ ॥२॥
Nānak bẖījai sācẖai nā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, if one utters the True Name, the Lord is supremely pleased.

ਨਵ ਛਿਅ ਖਟ ਕਾ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
नव छिअ खट का करे बीचारु ॥
Nav cẖẖi▫a kẖat kā kare bīcẖār.
People reflect on nine grammars, six Shastras and the six chapters of the Vedas,
|
ਨਿਸਿ ਦਿਨ ਉਚਰੈ ਭਾਰ ਅਠਾਰ ॥
निसि दिन उचरै भार अठार ॥
Nis ḏin ucẖrai bẖār aṯẖār.
and night and day utter the Mahabharta of eighteen divisions.
|
ਤਿਨਿ ਭੀ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
तिनि भी अंतु न पाइआ तोहि ॥
Ŧin bẖī anṯ na pā▫i▫ā ṯohi.
Even they can find not Thy limit, O Lord.
|
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਣ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਉ ਹੋਇ ॥
नाम बिहूण मुकति किउ होइ ॥
Nām bihūṇ mukaṯ ki▫o ho▫e.
Bereft of the Name, how can one be emancipated?
|
ਨਾਭਿ ਵਸਤ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੈ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
नाभि वसत ब्रहमै अंतु न जाणिआ ॥
Nābẖ vasaṯ barahmai anṯ na jāṇi▫ā.
Abiding in the Navel, Brahma knows not the Lord's end.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि नानक नामु पछाणिआ ॥३॥
Gurmukẖ Nānak nām pacẖẖāṇi▫ā. ||3||
By the Guru's grace, Nanak, realises the Lord's name.

|
ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਿਰੰਜਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਆਪੁ ਉਪਾਇਆ ॥
आपे आपि निरंजना जिनि आपु उपाइआ ॥
Āpe āp niranjanā jin āp upā▫i▫ā.
The Immaculate Lord, who created His ownself, is all by Himself.
|
ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਰਚਾਇਓਨੁ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
आपे खेलु रचाइओनु सभु जगतु सबाइआ ॥
Āpe kẖel racẖā▫i▫on sabẖ jagaṯ sabā▫i▫ā.
He Himself has created the whole play of the entire world.
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਆਪਿ ਸਿਰਜਿਅਨੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
त्रै गुण आपि सिरजिअनु माइआ मोहु वधाइआ ॥
Ŧarai guṇ āp sirji▫an mā▫i▫ā moh vaḏẖā▫i▫ā.
He Himself has created the three qualities and increased the love of worldly valuables.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਭਾਣਾ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
गुर परसादी उबरे जिन भाणा भाइआ ॥
Gur parsādī ubre jin bẖāṇā bẖā▫i▫ā.
They alone are delivered by the Guru's grace, who love the Lord's will.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਸਭ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
नानक सचु वरतदा सभ सचि समाइआ ॥१॥
Nānak sacẖ varaṯḏā sabẖ sacẖ samā▫i▫ā. ||1||
Nanak, the True Lord is pervading amongst all and all are contained in the True Lord.
