ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावहि ता करहि बिभूता सिंङी नादु वजावहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvėh ṯā karahi bibẖūṯā sińī nāḏ vajāvah.
When it pleases You, we smear our bodies with ashes, and blow the horn and the conch shell.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਮੁਲਾ ਸੇਖ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावै ता पड़हि कतेबा मुला सेख कहावहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā paṛėh kaṯebā mulā sekẖ kahāvėh.
When it pleases You, we read the Islamic Scriptures, and are acclaimed as Mullahs and Shaykhs.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावै ता होवहि राजे रस कस बहुतु कमावहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā hovėh rāje ras kas bahuṯ kamāvėh.
When it pleases You, we become kings, and enjoy all sorts of tastes and pleasures.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੇਗ ਵਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਿਰ ਮੁੰਡੀ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावै तेग वगावहि सिर मुंडी कटि जावहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯeg vagāvėh sir mundī kat jāvėh.
When it pleases You, we wield the sword, and cut off the heads of our enemies.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावै जाहि दिसंतरि सुणि गला घरि आवहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai jāhi disanṯar suṇ galā gẖar āvahi.
When it pleases You, we go out to foreign lands; hearing news of home, we come back again.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਇ ਰਚਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ
जा तुधु भावै नाइ रचावहि तुधु भाणे तूं भावहि ॥
Jā ṯuḏẖ bẖāvai nā▫e racẖāvėh ṯuḏẖ bẖāṇe ṯūʼn bẖāvėh.
When it pleases You, we are attuned to the Name, and when it pleases You, we become pleasing to You.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
नानकु एक कहै बेनंती होरि सगले कूड़ु कमावहि ॥१॥
Nānak ek kahai benanṯī hor sagle kūṛ kamāvėh. ||1||
Nanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||

ਮਃ
मः १ ॥
Mėhlā 1.
First Mehl:

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਸਭਿ ਵਡਿਆਂਈਆ ਚੰਗੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਈ
जा तूं वडा सभि वडिआंईआ चंगै चंगा होई ॥
Jā ṯūʼn vadā sabẖ vadi▫āʼn▫ī▫ā cẖangai cẖanga ho▫ī.
You are so Great-all Greatness flows from You. You are So Good-Goodness radiates from You.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਕੂੜਾ ਕੋਇ ਕੋਈ
जा तूं सचा ता सभु को सचा कूड़ा कोइ न कोई ॥
Jā ṯūʼn sacẖā ṯā sabẖ ko sacẖā kūṛā ko▫e na ko▫ī.
You are True-all that flows from You is True. Nothing at all is false.

ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਚਲਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਧਾਤੁ
आखणु वेखणु बोलणु चलणु जीवणु मरणा धातु ॥
Ākẖaṇ vekẖaṇ bolaṇ cẖalaṇ jīvaṇ marṇā ḏẖāṯ.
Talking, seeing, speaking, walking, living and dying-all these are transitory.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਖੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ॥੨॥
हुकमु साजि हुकमै विचि रखै नानक सचा आपि ॥२॥
Hukam sāj hukmai vicẖ rakẖai Nānak sacẖā āp. ||2||
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates, and in His Command, He keeps us. O Nanak, He Himself is True. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ
सतिगुरु सेवि निसंगु भरमु चुकाईऐ ॥
Saṯgur sev nisang bẖaram cẖukẖā▫ī▫ai.
Serve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖੈ ਕਾਰ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ
सतिगुरु आखै कार सु कार कमाईऐ ॥
Saṯgur ākẖai kār so kār kamā▫ī▫ai.
Do that work which the True Guru asks you to do.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ
सतिगुरु होइ दइआलु त नामु धिआईऐ ॥
Saṯgur ho▫e ḏa▫i▫āl ṯa nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, we meditate on the Naam.

ਲਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ
लाहा भगति सु सारु गुरमुखि पाईऐ ॥
Lāhā bẖagaṯ so sār gurmukẖ pā▫ī▫ai.
The profit of devotional worship is excellent. It is obtained by the Gurmukh.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ
मनमुखि कूड़ु गुबारु कूड़ु कमाईऐ ॥
Manmukẖ kūṛ gubār kūṛ kamā▫ī▫ai.
The self-willed manmukhs are trapped in the darkness of falsehood; they practice nothing but falsehood.

ਸਚੇ ਦੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਚੁ ਚਵਾਂਈਐ
सचे दै दरि जाइ सचु चवांईऐ ॥
Sacẖe ḏai ḏar jā▫e sacẖ cẖavāʼn▫ī▫ai.
Go to the Gate of Truth, and speak the Truth.

ਸਚੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ
सचै अंदरि महलि सचि बुलाईऐ ॥
Sacẖai anḏar mahal sacẖ bulā▫ī▫ai.
The True Lord calls the true ones to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੫॥
नानक सचु सदा सचिआरु सचि समाईऐ ॥१५॥
Nānak sacẖ saḏā sacẖiār sacẖ samā▫ī▫ai. ||15||
O Nanak, the true ones are forever true; they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||15||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ
सलोकु मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਕਲਿ ਕਾਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਾਸਾਈ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੰਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਡਰਿਆ
कलि काती राजे कासाई धरमु पंख करि उडरिआ ॥
Kal kāṯī rāje kāsā▫ī ḏẖaram pankẖ kar udri▫ā.
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.

ਕੂੜੁ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਸਚੁ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹ ਚੜਿਆ
कूड़ु अमावस सचु चंद्रमा दीसै नाही कह चड़िआ ॥
Kūṛ amāvas sacẖ cẖanḏarmā ḏīsai nāhī kah cẖaṛi▫ā.
In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere.

ਹਉ ਭਾਲਿ ਵਿਕੁੰਨੀ ਹੋਈ
हउ भालि विकुंनी होई ॥
Ha▫o bẖāl vikunnī ho▫ī.
I have searched in vain, and I am so confused;

ਆਧੇਰੈ ਰਾਹੁ ਕੋਈ
आधेरै राहु न कोई ॥
Āḏẖārai rāhu na ko▫ī.
in this darkness, I cannot find the path.

ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਈ
विचि हउमै करि दुखु रोई ॥
vicẖ ha▫umai kar ḏukẖ ro▫ī.
In egotism, they cry out in pain.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
कहु नानक किनि बिधि गति होई ॥१॥
Kaho Nānak kin biḏẖ gaṯ ho▫ī. ||1||
Says Nanak, how will they be saved? ||1||

ਮਃ
मः ३ ॥
Mėhlā 3.
Third Mehl:

ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ
कलि कीरति परगटु चानणु संसारि ॥
Kal kīraṯ pargat cẖānaṇ sansār.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord's Praise has appeared as a Light in the world.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਉਤਰੈ ਪਾਰਿ
गुरमुखि कोई उतरै पारि ॥
Gurmukẖ ko▫ī uṯrai pār.
How rare are those few Gurmukhs who swim across to the other side!

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ
जिस नो नदरि करे तिसु देवै ॥
Jis no naḏar kare ṯis ḏevai.
The Lord bestows His Glance of Grace;

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ॥੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि रतनु सो लेवै ॥२॥
Nānak gurmukẖ raṯan so levai. ||2||
O Nanak, the Gurmukh receives the jewel. ||2||

ਪਉੜੀ
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:

ਭਗਤਾ ਤੈ ਸੈਸਾਰੀਆ ਜੋੜੁ ਕਦੇ ਆਇਆ
भगता तै सैसारीआ जोड़ु कदे न आइआ ॥
Bẖagṯā ṯai saisārī▫ā joṛ kaḏe na ā▫i▫ā.
Between the Lord's devotees and the people of the world, there can never be any true alliance.

ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਹੈ ਭੁਲੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਦਾ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ
करता आपि अभुलु है न भुलै किसै दा भुलाइआ ॥
Karṯā āp abẖul hai na bẖulai kisai ḏā bẖulā▫i▫ā.
The Creator Himself is infallible. He cannot be fooled; no one can fool Him.

ਭਗਤ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ
भगत आपे मेलिअनु जिनी सचो सचु कमाइआ ॥
Bẖagaṯ āpe meli▫an jinī sacẖo sacẖ kamā▫i▫ā.
He blends His devotees with Himself; they practice Truth, and only Truth.

ਸੈਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇਆ
सैसारी आपि खुआइअनु जिनी कूड़ु बोलि बोलि बिखु खाइआ ॥
Saisārī āp kẖu▫ā▫i▫an jinī kūṛ bol bol bikẖ kẖā▫i▫ā.
The Lord Himself leads the people of the world astray; they tell lies, and by telling lies, they eat poison.

ਚਲਣ ਸਾਰ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਵਿਸੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ
चलण सार न जाणनी कामु करोधु विसु वधाइआ ॥
Cẖalaṇ sār na jāṇnī kām karoḏẖ vis vaḏẖā▫i▫ā.
They do not recognize the ultimate reality, that we all must go; they continue to cultivate the poisons of sexual desire and anger.

ਭਗਤ ਕਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ
भगत करनि हरि चाकरी जिनी अनदिनु नामु धिआइआ ॥
Bẖagaṯ karan har cẖākrī jinī an▫ḏin nām ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā.
The devotees serve the Lord; night and day, they meditate on the Naam.

ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਜਿਨੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ
दासनि दास होइ कै जिनी विचहु आपु गवाइआ ॥
Ḏāsan ḏās ho▫e kai jinī vicẖahu āp gavā▫i▫ā.
Becoming the slaves of the Lord's slaves, they eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.

ਓਨਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥
ओना खसमै कै दरि मुख उजले सचै सबदि सुहाइआ ॥१६॥
Onā kẖasmai kai ḏar mukẖ ujle sacẖai sabaḏ suhā▫i▫ā. ||16||
In the Court of their Lord and Master, their faces are radiant; they are embellished and exalted with the True Word of the Shabad. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ
सलोकु मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਸਬਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ
सबाही सालाह जिनी धिआइआ इक मनि ॥
Sabāhī sālāh jinī ḏẖi▫ā▫i▫ā ik man.
Those who praise the Lord in the early hours of the morning and meditate on Him single-mindedly,

ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਹ ਵਖਤੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਲੜਿ ਮੁਏ
सेई पूरे साह वखतै उपरि लड़ि मुए ॥
Se▫ī pūre sāh vakẖ▫ṯai upar laṛ mu▫e.
are the perfect kings; at the right time, they die fighting.

ਦੂਜੈ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਹ ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਮਤੀ ਖਿੰਡੀਆ
दूजै बहुते राह मन कीआ मती खिंडीआ ॥
Ḏūjai bahuṯe rāh man kī▫ā maṯī kẖindī▫ā.
In the second watch, the focus of the mind is scattered in all sorts of ways.

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਏ ਅਸਗਾਹ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਹਿ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ
बहुतु पए असगाह गोते खाहि न निकलहि ॥
Bahuṯ pa▫e asgāh goṯe kẖāhi na niklahi.
So many fall into the bottomless pit; they are dragged under, and they cannot get out again.
