साम वेदु रिगु जुजरु अथरबणु ॥
Sām veḏ rig jujar atharbaṇ.
The Saam Veda, the Rig Veda, the Jujar Veda and the At'harva Veda
ब्रहमे मुखि माइआ है त्रै गुण ॥
Barahme mukẖ mā▫i▫ā hai ṯarai guṇ.
form the mouth of Brahma; they speak of the three gunas, the three qualities of Maya.
ता की कीमति कहि न सकै को तिउ बोले जिउ बोलाइदा ॥९॥
Ŧā kī kīmaṯ kahi na sakai ko ṯi▫o bole ji▫o bolā▫iḏā. ||9||
None of them can describe His worth. We speak as He inspires us to speak. ||9||
सुंनहु सपत पाताल उपाए ॥
Sunnahu sapaṯ pāṯāl upā▫e.
From the Primal Void, He created the seven nether regions.
सुंनहु भवण रखे लिव लाए ॥
Sunnahu bẖavaṇ rakẖe liv lā▫e.
From the Primal Void, He established this world to lovingly dwell upon Him.
आपे कारणु कीआ अपर्मपरि सभु तेरो कीआ कमाइदा ॥१०॥
Āpe kāraṇ kī▫ā aprampar sabẖ ṯero kī▫ā kamā▫iḏā. ||10||
The Infinite Lord Himself created the creation. Everyone acts as You make them act, Lord. ||10||
रज तम सत कल तेरी छाइआ ॥
Raj ṯam saṯ kal ṯerī cẖẖā▫i▫ā.
Your Power is diffused through the three gunas: raajas, taamas and satva.
जनम मरण हउमै दुखु पाइआ ॥
Janam maraṇ ha▫umai ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā.
Through egotism, they suffer the pains of birth and death.
जिस नो क्रिपा करे हरि गुरमुखि गुणि चउथै मुकति कराइदा ॥११॥
Jis no kirpā kare har gurmukẖ guṇ cẖa▫uthai mukaṯ karā▫iḏā. ||11||
Those blessed by His Grace become Gurmukh; they attain the fourth state, and are liberated. ||11||
सुंनहु उपजे दस अवतारा ॥
Sunnahu upje ḏas avṯārā.
From the Primal Void, the ten incarnations welled up.
स्रिसटि उपाइ कीआ पासारा ॥
Sarisat upā▫e kī▫ā pāsārā.
Creating the Universe, He made the expanse.
देव दानव गण गंधरब साजे सभि लिखिआ करम कमाइदा ॥१२॥
Ḏev ḏānav gaṇ ganḏẖarab sāje sabẖ likẖi▫ā karam kamā▫iḏā. ||12||
He fashioned the demi-gods and demons, the heavenly heralds and celestial musicians; everyone acts according to their past karma. ||12||
गुरमुखि समझै रोगु न होई ॥
Gurmukẖ samjẖai rog na ho▫ī.
The Gurmukh understands, and does not suffer the disease.
इह गुर की पउड़ी जाणै जनु कोई ॥
Ih gur kī pa▫oṛī jāṇai jan ko▫ī.
How rare are those who understand this ladder of the Guru.
जुगह जुगंतरि मुकति पराइण सो मुकति भइआ पति पाइदा ॥१३॥
Jugah juganṯar mukaṯ parā▫iṇ so mukaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā paṯ pā▫iḏā. ||13||
Throughout the ages, they are dedicated to liberation, and so they become liberated; thus they are honored. ||13||
पंच ततु सुंनहु परगासा ॥
Pancẖ ṯaṯ sunnahu pargāsā.
From the Primal Void, the five elements became manifest.
देह संजोगी करम अभिआसा ॥
Ḏeh sanjogī karam abẖi▫āsā.
They joined to form the body, which engages in actions.
बुरा भला दुइ मसतकि लीखे पापु पुंनु बीजाइदा ॥१४॥
Burā bẖalā ḏu▫e masṯak līkẖe pāp punn bījā▫iḏā. ||14||
Both bad and good are written on the forehead, the seeds of vice and virtue. ||14||
ऊतम सतिगुर पुरख निराले ॥
Ūṯam saṯgur purakẖ nirāle.
The True Guru, the Primal Being, is sublime and detached.
सबदि रते हरि रसि मतवाले ॥
Sabaḏ raṯe har ras maṯvāle.
Attuned to the Word of the Shabad, He is intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord.
रिधि बुधि सिधि गिआनु गुरू ते पाईऐ पूरै भागि मिलाइदा ॥१५॥
Riḏẖ buḏẖ siḏẖ gi▫ān gurū ṯe pā▫ī▫ai pūrai bẖāg milā▫iḏā. ||15||
Riches, intellect, miraculous spiritual powers and spiritual wisdom are obtained from the Guru; through perfect destiny, they are received. ||15||
इसु मन माइआ कउ नेहु घनेरा ॥
Is man mā▫i▫ā ka▫o nehu gẖanerā.
This mind is so in love with Maya.
कोई बूझहु गिआनी करहु निबेरा ॥
Ko▫ī būjẖhu gi▫ānī karahu niberā.
Only a few are spiritually wise enough to understand and know this.
आसा मनसा हउमै सहसा नरु लोभी कूड़ु कमाइदा ॥१६॥
Āsā mansā ha▫umai sahsā nar lobẖī kūṛ kamā▫iḏā. ||16||
In hope and desire, egotism and skepticism, the greedy man acts falsely. ||16||
सतिगुर ते पाए वीचारा ॥
Saṯgur ṯe pā▫e vīcẖārā.
From the True Guru, contemplative meditation is obtained.
सुंन समाधि सचे घर बारा ॥
Sunn samāḏẖ sacẖe gẖar bārā.
And then, one dwells with the True Lord in His celestial home, the Primal State of Absorption in Deepest Samaadhi.
नानक निरमल नादु सबद धुनि सचु रामै नामि समाइदा ॥१७॥५॥१७॥
Nānak nirmal nāḏ sabaḏ ḏẖun sacẖ rāmai nām samā▫iḏā. ||17||5||17||
O Nanak, the immaculate sound current of the Naad, and the Music of the Shabad resound; one merges into the True Name of the Lord. ||17||5||17||
मारू महला १ ॥
Mārū mėhlā 1.
Maaroo, First Mehl:
जह देखा तह दीन दइआला ॥
Jah ḏekẖā ṯah ḏīn ḏa▫i▫ālā.
Wherever I look, I see the Lord, merciful to the meek.
आइ न जाई प्रभु किरपाला ॥
Ā▫e na jā▫ī parabẖ kirpālā.
God is compassionate; He does not come or go in reincarnation.
जीआ अंदरि जुगति समाई रहिओ निरालमु राइआ ॥१॥
Jī▫ā anḏar jugaṯ samā▫ī rahi▫o nirālam rā▫i▫ā. ||1||
He pervades all beings in His mysterious way; the Sovereign Lord remains detached. ||1||
जगु तिस की छाइआ जिसु बापु न माइआ ॥
Jag ṯis kī cẖẖā▫i▫ā jis bāp na mā▫i▫ā.
The world is a reflection of Him; He has no father or mother.
ना तिसु भैण न भराउ कमाइआ ॥
Nā ṯis bẖaiṇ na bẖarā▫o kamā▫i▫ā.
He has not acquired any sister or brother.
ना तिसु ओपति खपति कुल जाती ओहु अजरावरु मनि भाइआ ॥२॥
Nā ṯis opaṯ kẖapaṯ kul jāṯī oh ajrāvar man bẖā▫i▫ā. ||2||
There is no creation or destruction for Him; He has no ancestry or social status. The Ageless Lord is pleasing to my mind. ||2||
तू अकाल पुरखु नाही सिरि काला ॥
Ŧū akāl purakẖ nāhī sir kālā.
You are the Deathless Primal Being. Death does not hover over Your head.
तू पुरखु अलेख अगम निराला ॥
Ŧū purakẖ alekẖ agamm nirālā.
You are the unseen inaccessible and detached Primal Lord.
सत संतोखि सबदि अति सीतलु सहज भाइ लिव लाइआ ॥३॥
Saṯ sanṯokẖ sabaḏ aṯ sīṯal sahj bẖā▫e liv lā▫i▫ā. ||3||
You are true and content; the Word of Your Shabad is cool and soothing. Through it, we are lovingly, intuitively attuned to You. ||3||
त्रै वरताइ चउथै घरि वासा ॥
Ŧarai varṯā▫e cẖa▫uthai gẖar vāsā.
The three qualities are pervasive; the Lord dwells in His home, the fourth state.
काल बिकाल कीए इक ग्रासा ॥
Kāl bikāl kī▫e ik garasā.
He has made death and birth into a bite of food.
निरमल जोति सरब जगजीवनु गुरि अनहद सबदि दिखाइआ ॥४॥
Nirmal joṯ sarab jagjīvan gur anhaḏ sabaḏ ḏikẖā▫i▫ā. ||4||
The immaculate Light is the Life of the whole world. The Guru reveals the unstruck melody of the Shabad. ||4||
ऊतम जन संत भले हरि पिआरे ॥
Ūṯam jan sanṯ bẖale har pi▫āre.
Sublime and good are those humble Saints, the Beloveds of the Lord.
हरि रस माते पारि उतारे ॥
Har ras māṯe pār uṯāre.
They are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord, and are carried across to the other side.
नानक रेण संत जन संगति हरि गुर परसादी पाइआ ॥५॥
Nānak reṇ sanṯ jan sangaṯ har gur parsādī pā▫i▫ā. ||5||
Nanak is the dust of the Society of the Saints; by Guru's Grace, he finds the Lord. ||5||
तू अंतरजामी जीअ सभि तेरे ॥
Ŧū anṯarjāmī jī▫a sabẖ ṯere.
You are the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. All beings belong to You.
