ਮੁਲ ਖਰੀਦੀ ਲਾਲਾ ਗੋਲਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ਸਭਾਗਾ ॥
मुल खरीदी लाला गोला मेरा नाउ सभागा ॥
Mul kẖarīḏī lālā golā merā nā▫o sabẖāgā.
I am Your slave, Your bonded servant, and so I am called fortunate.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਚਨੀ ਹਾਟਿ ਬਿਕਾਨਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
गुर की बचनी हाटि बिकाना जितु लाइआ तितु लागा ॥१॥
Gur kī bacẖnī hāt bikānā jiṯ lā▫i▫ā ṯiṯ lāgā. ||1||
I sold myself at Your store in exchange for the Guru's Word; whatever You link me to, to that I am linked. ||1||
|
ਤੇਰੇ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਿਆ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
तेरे लाले किआ चतुराई ॥
Ŧere lāle ki▫ā cẖaṯurā▫ī.
What cleverness can Your servant try with You?
|
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साहिब का हुकमु न करणा जाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sāhib kā hukam na karṇā jā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
O my Lord and Master, I cannot carry out the Hukam of Your Command. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਾ ਲਾਲੀ ਪਿਉ ਲਾਲਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਲਾਲੇ ਕਾ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
मा लाली पिउ लाला मेरा हउ लाले का जाइआ ॥
Mā lālī pi▫o lālā merā ha▫o lāle kā jā▫i▫ā.
My mother is Your slave, and my father is Your slave; I am the child of Your slaves.

ਲਾਲੀ ਨਾਚੈ ਲਾਲਾ ਗਾਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
लाली नाचै लाला गावै भगति करउ तेरी राइआ ॥२॥
Lālī nācẖai lālā gāvai bẖagaṯ kara▫o ṯerī rā▫i▫ā. ||2||
My slave mother dances, and my slave father sings; I practice devotional worship to You, O my Sovereign Lord. ||2||

ਪੀਅਹਿ ਤ ਪਾਣੀ ਆਣੀ ਮੀਰਾ ਖਾਹਿ ਤ ਪੀਸਣ ਜਾਉ ॥
पीअहि त पाणी आणी मीरा खाहि त पीसण जाउ ॥
Pī▫ah ṯa pāṇī āṇī mīrā kẖāhi ṯa pīsaṇ jā▫o.
If You wish to drink, then I shall get water for You; if You wish to eat, I shall grind the corn for You.

ਪਖਾ ਫੇਰੀ ਪੈਰ ਮਲੋਵਾ ਜਪਤ ਰਹਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਨਾਉ ॥੩॥
पखा फेरी पैर मलोवा जपत रहा तेरा नाउ ॥३॥
Pakẖā ferī pair malovā japaṯ rahā ṯerā nā▫o. ||3||
I wave the fan over You, and wash Your feet, and continue to chant Your Name. ||3||

ਲੂਣ ਹਰਾਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਾਲਾ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
लूण हरामी नानकु लाला बखसिहि तुधु वडिआई ॥
Lūṇ harāmī Nānak lālā bakẖsihi ṯuḏẖ vadi▫ā▫ī.
I have been untrue to myself, but Nanak is Your slave; please forgive him, by Your glorious greatness.

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥੬॥
आदि जुगादि दइआपति दाता तुधु विणु मुकति न पाई ॥४॥६॥
Āḏ jugāḏ ḏa▫i▫āpaṯ ḏāṯā ṯuḏẖ viṇ mukaṯ na pā▫ī. ||4||6||
Since the very beginning of time, and throughout the ages, You have been the merciful and generous Lord. Without You, liberation cannot be attained. ||4||6||

ਕੋਈ ਆਖੈ ਭੂਤਨਾ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥
कोई आखै भूतना को कहै बेताला ॥
Ko▫ī ākẖai bẖūṯnā ko kahai beṯālā.
Some call him a ghost; some say that he is a demon.
|
ਕੋਈ ਆਖੈ ਆਦਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
कोई आखै आदमी नानकु वेचारा ॥१॥
Ko▫ī ākẖai āḏmī Nānak vecẖārā. ||1||
Some call him a mere mortal; O, poor Nanak! ||1||
|
ਭਇਆ ਦਿਵਾਨਾ ਸਾਹ ਕਾ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥
भइआ दिवाना साह का नानकु बउराना ॥
Bẖa▫i▫ā ḏivānā sāh kā Nānak ba▫urānā.
Crazy Nanak has gone insane, after his Lord, the King.
|
ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हउ हरि बिनु अवरु न जाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ha▫o har bin avar na jānā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I know of none other than the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਭੈ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
तउ देवाना जाणीऐ जा भै देवाना होइ ॥
Ŧa▫o ḏevānā jāṇī▫ai jā bẖai ḏevānā ho▫e.
He alone is known to be insane, when he goes insane with the Fear of God.

ਏਕੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
एकी साहिब बाहरा दूजा अवरु न जाणै कोइ ॥२॥
Ėkī sāhib bāhrā ḏūjā avar na jāṇai ko▫e. ||2||
He recognizes none other than the One Lord and Master. ||2||
|
ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਏਕਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
तउ देवाना जाणीऐ जा एका कार कमाइ ॥
Ŧa▫o ḏevānā jāṇī▫ai jā ekā kār kamā▫e.
He alone is known to be insane, if he works for the One Lord.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਖਸਮ ਕਾ ਦੂਜੀ ਅਵਰ ਸਿਆਣਪ ਕਾਇ ॥੩॥
हुकमु पछाणै खसम का दूजी अवर सिआणप काइ ॥३॥
Hukam pacẖẖāṇai kẖasam kā ḏūjī avar si▫āṇap kā▫e. ||3||
Recognizing the Hukam, the Command of his Lord and Master, what other cleverness is there? ||3||
|
ਤਉ ਦੇਵਾਨਾ ਜਾਣੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਧਰੇ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
तउ देवाना जाणीऐ जा साहिब धरे पिआरु ॥
Ŧa▫o ḏevānā jāṇī▫ai jā sāhib ḏẖare pi▫ār.
He alone is known to be insane, when he falls in love with his Lord and Master.

ਮੰਦਾ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪ ਕਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੭॥
मंदा जाणै आप कउ अवरु भला संसारु ॥४॥७॥
Manḏā jāṇai āp ka▫o avar bẖalā sansār. ||4||7||
He sees himself as bad, and all the rest of the world as good. ||4||7||

Maaroo, First Mehl:

ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
इहु धनु सरब रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
Ih ḏẖan sarab rahi▫ā bẖarpūr.
This wealth is all-pervading, permeating all.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਸਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੧॥
मनमुख फिरहि सि जाणहि दूरि ॥१॥
Manmukẖ firėh sė jāṇėh ḏūr. ||1||
The self-willed manmukh wanders around, thinking that it is far away. ||1||
|
ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਮਾਰੈ ॥
सो धनु वखरु नामु रिदै हमारै ॥
So ḏẖan vakẖar nām riḏai hamārai.
That commodity, the wealth of the Naam, is within my heart.
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਨਿਸਤਾਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जिसु तू देहि तिसै निसतारै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jis ṯū ḏėh ṯisai nisṯārai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Whoever You bless with it, is emancipated. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਜਲੈ ਨ ਤਸਕਰੁ ਲੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
न इहु धनु जलै न तसकरु लै जाइ ॥
Na ih ḏẖan jalai na ṯaskar lai jā▫e.
This wealth does not burn; it cannot be stolen by a thief.
|
ਨ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਡੂਬੈ ਨ ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
न इहु धनु डूबै न इसु धन कउ मिलै सजाइ ॥२॥
Na ih ḏẖan dūbai na is ḏẖan ka▫o milai sajā▫e. ||2||
This wealth does not drown, and its owner is never punished. ||2||
|
ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਕੀ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
इसु धन की देखहु वडिआई ॥
Is ḏẖan kī ḏekẖhu vadi▫ā▫ī.
Gaze upon the glorious greatness of this wealth,
|
ਸਹਜੇ ਮਾਤੇ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
सहजे माते अनदिनु जाई ॥३॥
Sėhje māṯe an▫ḏin jā▫ī. ||3||
and your nights and days will pass, imbued with celestial peace. ||3||
|
ਇਕ ਬਾਤ ਅਨੂਪ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਨਰ ਭਾਈ ॥
इक बात अनूप सुनहु नर भाई ॥
Ik bāṯ anūp sunhu nar bẖā▫ī.
Listen to this incomparably beautiful story, O my brothers, O Siblings of Destiny.

ਇਸੁ ਧਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਿਨੈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੪॥
इसु धन बिनु कहहु किनै परम गति पाई ॥४॥
Is ḏẖan bin kahhu kinai param gaṯ pā▫ī. ||4||
Tell me, without this wealth, who has ever obtained the supreme status? ||4||
|
ਭਣਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਕਥ ਕੀ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
भणति नानकु अकथ की कथा सुणाए ॥
Bẖaṇaṯ Nānak akath kī kathā suṇā▫e.
Nanak humbly prays, I proclaim the Unspoken Speech of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੫॥੮॥
सतिगुरु मिलै त इहु धनु पाए ॥५॥८॥
Saṯgur milai ṯa ih ḏẖan pā▫e. ||5||8||
If one meets the True Guru, then this wealth is obtained. ||5||8||

ਸੂਰ ਸਰੁ ਸੋਸਿ ਲੈ ਸੋਮ ਸਰੁ ਪੋਖਿ ਲੈ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਰਤੁ ਸੁ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
सूर सरु सोसि लै सोम सरु पोखि लै जुगति करि मरतु सु सनबंधु कीजै ॥
Sūr sar sos lai som sar pokẖ lai jugaṯ kar maraṯ so san▫banḏẖ kījai.
Heat up the sun energy of the right nostril, and cool down the moon energy of the left nostril; practicing this breath-control, bring them into perfect balance.

ਮੀਨ ਕੀ ਚਪਲ ਸਿਉ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਖੀਐ ਉਡੈ ਨਹ ਹੰਸੁ ਨਹ ਕੰਧੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥੧॥
मीन की चपल सिउ जुगति मनु राखीऐ उडै नह हंसु नह कंधु छीजै ॥१॥
Mīn kī cẖapal si▫o jugaṯ man rākẖī▫ai udai nah hans nah kanḏẖ cẖẖījai. ||1||
In this way, the fickle fish of the mind will be held steady; the swan-soul shall not fly away, and the body-wall will not crumble. ||1||
|
ਮੂੜੇ ਕਾਇਚੇ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾ ॥
मूड़े काइचे भरमि भुला ॥
Mūṛe kā▫icẖe bẖaram bẖulā.
You fool, why are you deluded by doubt?
|
ਨਹ ਚੀਨਿਆ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नह चीनिआ परमानंदु बैरागी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nah cẖīni▫ā parmānanḏ bairāgī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
You do not remember the detached Lord of supreme bliss. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਜਰ ਗਹੁ ਜਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਅਮਰ ਗਹੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਲੈ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਿ ਤਜਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਤਉ ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਜੈ ॥
अजर गहु जारि लै अमर गहु मारि लै भ्राति तजि छोडि तउ अपिउ पीजै ॥
Ajar gahu jār lai amar gahu mār lai bẖarāṯ ṯaj cẖẖod ṯa▫o api▫o pījai.
Seize and burn the unbearable; seize and kill the imperishable; leave behind your doubts, and then, you shall drink in the Nectar.
