Mėhlā 5.
Fifth Mehl:
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਤੁਧੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਜਿ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਦੁਖਾ ਕੈ ਦੁਖ ॥
विणु तुधु होरु जि मंगणा सिरि दुखा कै दुख ॥
viṇ ṯuḏẖ hor jė mangṇā sir ḏukẖā kai ḏukẖ.
To ask for any other than You, Lord, is the most miserable of miseries.
|
ਦੇਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੀਆ ਉਤਰੈ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਭੁਖ ॥
देहि नामु संतोखीआ उतरै मन की भुख ॥
Ḏėh nām sanṯokẖī▫ā uṯrai man kī bẖukẖ.
Please bless me with Your Name, and make me content; may the hunger of my mind be satisfied.

ਗੁਰਿ ਵਣੁ ਤਿਣੁ ਹਰਿਆ ਕੀਤਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਆ ਮਨੁਖ ॥੨॥
गुरि वणु तिणु हरिआ कीतिआ नानक किआ मनुख ॥२॥
Gur vaṇ ṯiṇ hari▫ā kīṯi▫ā Nānak ki▫ā manukẖ. ||2||
The Guru has made the woods and meadows green again. O Nanak! Is it any wonder that He blesses human beings as well? ||2||

|
ਸੋ ਐਸਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ॥
सो ऐसा दातारु मनहु न वीसरै ॥
So, aisā ḏāṯār manhu na vīsrai.
Such is that Great Giver; may I never forget Him from my mind.
|
ਘੜੀ ਨ ਮੁਹਤੁ ਚਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾ ਸਰੈ ॥
घड़ी न मुहतु चसा तिसु बिनु ना सरै ॥
Gẖaṛī na muhaṯ cẖasā ṯis bin nā sarai.
I cannot survive without Him, for an instant, for a moment, for a second.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਲੁਕਿ ਕਰੈ ॥
अंतरि बाहरि संगि किआ को लुकि करै ॥
Anṯar bāhar sang ki▫ā ko luk karai.
Inwardly and outwardly, He is with us; how can we hide anything from Him?
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਪਤਿ ਰਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੋ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ॥
जिसु पति रखै आपि सो भवजलु तरै ॥
Jis paṯ rakẖai āp so bẖavjal ṯarai.
One whose honor He Himself has preserved, crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
|
ਭਗਤੁ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਤਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੈ ॥
भगतु गिआनी तपा जिसु किरपा करै ॥
Bẖagaṯ gi▫ānī ṯapā jis kirpā karai.
He alone is a devotee, a spiritual teacher, and a disciplined practitioner of meditation, whom the Lord has so blessed.
|
ਸੋ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਲੁ ਧਰੈ ॥
सो पूरा परधानु जिस नो बलु धरै ॥
So, pūrā parḏẖān jis no bal ḏẖarai.
He alone is perfect and renowned as supreme, whom the Lord has blessed with His power.
|
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਜਰਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਜਰੁ ਜਰੈ ॥
जिसहि जराए आपि सोई अजरु जरै ॥
Jisahi jarā▫e āp so▫ī ajar jarai.
He alone endures the unendurable, whom the Lord inspires to endure it.
|
ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਧਰੈ ॥੩॥
तिस ही मिलिआ सचु मंत्रु गुर मनि धरै ॥३॥
Ŧis hī mili▫ā sacẖ manṯar gur man ḏẖarai. ||3||
And he alone meets the True Lord, within whose mind the Guru’s Mantra is implanted. ||3||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੫ ॥
सलोकु मः ५ ॥
Salok mėhlā 5.
Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਰਾਗ ਸੁਰੰਗੜੇ ਆਲਾਪਤ ਸਭ ਤਿਖ ਜਾਇ ॥
धंनु सु राग सुरंगड़े आलापत सभ तिख जाइ ॥
Ḏẖan so rāg surangṛe ālāpaṯ sabẖ ṯikẖ jā▫e.
Blessed are those beautiful Ragas which, when chanted, quench all thirst.
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਜੰਤ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੇ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਪਦੇ ਨਾਉ ॥
धंनु सु जंत सुहावड़े जो गुरमुखि जपदे नाउ ॥
Ḏẖan so janṯ suhāvṛe jo gurmukẖ japḏe nā▫o.
Blessed are those beautiful people who, as Gurmukh, chant the Name of the Lord.
|
ਜਿਨੀ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕੁ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
जिनी इक मनि इकु अराधिआ तिन सद बलिहारै जाउ ॥
Jinī ik man ik arāḏẖi▫ā ṯin saḏ balihārai jā▫o.
I am a sacrifice to those who single-mindedly worship and adore the One Lord.
|
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਹਮ ਬਾਛਦੇ ਕਰਮੀ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
तिन की धूड़ि हम बाछदे करमी पलै पाइ ॥
Ŧin kī ḏẖūṛ ham bācẖẖ▫ḏe karmī palai pā▫e.
I yearn for the dust of their feet; by His Grace, it is obtained.
|
ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਗੋਵਿਦ ਕੈ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਉ ॥
जो रते रंगि गोविद कै हउ तिन बलिहारै जाउ ॥
Jo raṯe rang goviḏ kai ha▫o ṯin balihārai jā▫o.
I am a sacrifice to those who are imbued with love for the Lord of the Universe.
|
ਆਖਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਰਾਇ ॥
आखा बिरथा जीअ की हरि सजणु मेलहु राइ ॥
Ākẖā birthā jī▫a kī har sajaṇ melhu rā▫e.
I tell them the state of my soul, and pray that I may be united with the Sovereign Lord King, my Friend.

ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुरि पूरै मेलाइआ जनम मरण दुखु जाइ ॥
Gur pūrai melā▫i▫ā janam maraṇ ḏukẖ jā▫e.
The Perfect Guru has united me with Him, and the pains of birth and death have departed.
|
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਰੂਪੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
जन नानक पाइआ अगम रूपु अनत न काहू जाइ ॥१॥
Jan Nānak pā▫i▫ā agam rūp anaṯ na kāhū jā▫e. ||1||
Servant Nanak has found the inaccessible, infinitely beautiful Lord, and he will not go anywhere else. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਵੇਲਾ ਘੜੀ ਧੰਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਮੂਰਤੁ ਪਲੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
धंनु सु वेला घड़ी धंनु धनु मूरतु पलु सारु ॥
Ḏẖan so velā gẖaṛī ḏẖan ḏẖan mūraṯ pal sār.
Blessed is that time, blessed is that hour, blessed is that second, excellent is that instant;
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਸੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਸੰਜੋਗੜਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਡਿਠਾ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਰੁ ॥
धंनु सु दिनसु संजोगड़ा जितु डिठा गुर दरसारु ॥
Ḏẖan so ḏinas sanjogṛā jiṯ diṯẖā gur ḏarsār.
blessed is that day, and that opportunity, when I gazed upon the Blessed Vision of the Guru’s Darshan.

ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
मन कीआ इछा पूरीआ हरि पाइआ अगम अपारु ॥
Man kī▫ā icẖẖā pūrī▫ā har pā▫i▫ā agam apār.
The mind’s desires are fulfilled, when the inaccessible, unfathomable Lord is obtained.

ਹਉਮੈ ਤੁਟਾ ਮੋਹੜਾ ਇਕੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥
हउमै तुटा मोहड़ा इकु सचु नामु आधारु ॥
Ha▫umai ṯutā mohṛā ik sacẖ nām āḏẖār.
Egotism and emotional attachment are eradicated, and one leans only on the Support of the True Name.
|
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇਵ ਹਰਿ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
जनु नानकु लगा सेव हरि उधरिआ सगल संसारु ॥२॥
Jan Nānak lagā sev har uḏẖri▫ā sagal sansār. ||2||
O servant Nanak! One who is committed to the Lord’s service - the whole world is saved along with him. ||2||

Pauree:

ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹਣੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਦਿਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
सिफति सलाहणु भगति विरले दितीअनु ॥
Sifaṯ salāhaṇ bẖagaṯ virle ḏiṯī▫an.
How rare are those who are blessed to praise the Lord, in devotional worship.
|
ਸਉਪੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਪੁਛ ਨ ਲੀਤੀਅਨੁ ॥
सउपे जिसु भंडार फिरि पुछ न लीतीअनु ॥
Sa▫upe jis bẖandār fir pucẖẖ na līṯī▫an.
Those who are blessed with the Lord’s treasures are not called to give their account again.
|
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਿਆ ॥
जिस नो लगा रंगु से रंगि रतिआ ॥
Jis no lagā rang se rang raṯi▫ā.
Those who are imbued with His Love are absorbed in ecstasy.
|
ਓਨਾ ਇਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਇਕਾ ਉਨ ਭਤਿਆ ॥
ओना इको नामु अधारु इका उन भतिआ ॥
Onā iko nām aḏẖār ikā un bẖaṯi▫ā.
They take the Support of the One Name; the One Name is their only food.
|
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਛੈ ਜਗੁ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਭੋਗਈ ॥
ओना पिछै जगु भुंचै भोगई ॥
Onā picẖẖai jag bẖuncẖai bẖog▫ī.
For their sake, the world eats and enjoys.
|
ਓਨਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਰਬੁ ਓਨਾਹਾ ਜੋਗਈ ॥
ओना पिआरा रबु ओनाहा जोगई ॥
Onā pi▫ārā rab onāhā jog▫ī.
Their Beloved Lord belongs to them alone.
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਇ ਤਿਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
जिसु मिलिआ गुरु आइ तिनि प्रभु जाणिआ ॥
Jis mili▫ā gur ā▫e ṯin parabẖ jāṇi▫ā.
The Guru comes and meets them; they alone know God.
|
ਹਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਤਿਨ ਜਿ ਖਸਮੈ ਭਾਣਿਆ ॥੪॥
हउ बलिहारी तिन जि खसमै भाणिआ ॥४॥
Ha▫o balihārī ṯin jė kẖasmai bẖāṇi▫ā. ||4||
I am a sacrifice to those who are pleasing to their Lord and Master. ||4||

ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
हरि इकसै नालि मै दोसती हरि इकसै नालि मै रंगु ॥
Har iksai nāl mai ḏosṯī har iksai nāl mai rang.
My friendship is with the One Lord alone; I am in love with the One Lord alone.
|
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
हरि इको मेरा सजणो हरि इकसै नालि मै संगु ॥
Har iko merā sajṇo har iksai nāl mai sang.
The Lord is my only friend; my companionship is with the One Lord alone.
|
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
हरि इकसै नालि मै गोसटे मुहु मैला करै न भंगु ॥
Har iksai nāl mai goste muhu mailā karai na bẖang.
My conversation is with the One Lord alone; He never frowns, or turns His face away.
|
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੋੜੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
जाणै बिरथा जीअ की कदे न मोड़ै रंगु ॥
Jāṇai birthā jī▫a kī kaḏe na moṛai rang.
He alone knows the state of my soul; He never ignores my love.
|
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
हरि इको मेरा मसलती भंनण घड़न समरथु ॥
Har iko merā maslaṯī bẖannaṇ gẖaṛan samrath.
He is my only counselor, all-powerful to destroy and create.
|
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਿਆ ਜਗ ਹਥੁ ॥
हरि इको मेरा दातारु है सिरि दातिआ जग हथु ॥
Har iko merā ḏāṯār hai sir ḏāṯi▫ā jag hath.
The Lord is my only Giver. He places His hand upon the heads of the generous in the world.
|
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
हरि इकसै दी मै टेक है जो सिरि सभना समरथु ॥
Har iksai ḏī mai tek hai jo sir sabẖnā samrath.
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ॥
सतिगुरि संतु मिलाइआ मसतकि धरि कै हथु ॥
Saṯgur sanṯ milā▫i▫ā masṯak ḏẖar kai hath.
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
