ਸਚੁ ਪੁਰਾਣਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੀਤਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਟੈ ॥
सचु पुराणा होवै नाही सीता कदे न पाटै ॥
Sacẖ purāṇā hovai nāhī sīṯā kaḏe na pātai.
But the Truth does not grow old; and when it is stitched, it is never torn again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਜਾਪੀ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੧॥
नानक साहिबु सचो सचा तिचरु जापी जापै ॥१॥
Nānak sāhib sacẖo sacẖā ṯicẖar jāpī jāpai. ||1||
O Nanak, the Lord and Master is the Truest of the True. While we meditate on Him, we see Him. ||1||

First Mehl:

ਸਚ ਕੀ ਕਾਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
सच की काती सचु सभु सारु ॥
Sacẖ kī kāṯī sacẖ sabẖ sār.
The knife is Truth, and its steel is totally True.
|
ਘਾੜਤ ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਅਪਰ ਅਪਾਰ ॥
घाड़त तिस की अपर अपार ॥
Gẖāṛaṯ ṯis kī apar apār.
Its workmanship is incomparably beautiful.
|
ਸਬਦੇ ਸਾਣ ਰਖਾਈ ਲਾਇ ॥
सबदे साण रखाई लाइ ॥
Sabḏe sāṇ rakẖā▫ī lā▫e.
It is sharpened on the grindstone of the Shabad.
|
ਗੁਣ ਕੀ ਥੇਕੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
गुण की थेकै विचि समाइ ॥
Guṇ kī thekai vicẖ samā▫e.
It is placed in the scabbard of virtue.
|
ਤਿਸ ਦਾ ਕੁਠਾ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੇਖੁ ॥
तिस दा कुठा होवै सेखु ॥
Ŧis ḏā kuṯẖā hovai sekẖ.
If the Shaykh is killed with that,
|
ਲੋਹੂ ਲਬੁ ਨਿਕਥਾ ਵੇਖੁ ॥
लोहू लबु निकथा वेखु ॥
Lohū lab nikthā vekẖ.
then the blood of greed will spill out.
|
ਹੋਇ ਹਲਾਲੁ ਲਗੈ ਹਕਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
होइ हलालु लगै हकि जाइ ॥
Ho▫e halāl lagai hak jā▫e.
One who is slaughtered in this ritualistic way, will be attached to the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਦਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक दरि दीदारि समाइ ॥२॥
Nānak ḏar ḏīḏār samā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, at the Lord's door, he is absorbed into His Blessed Vision. ||2||

ਕਮਰਿ ਕਟਾਰਾ ਬੰਕੁੜਾ ਬੰਕੇ ਕਾ ਅਸਵਾਰੁ ॥
कमरि कटारा बंकुड़ा बंके का असवारु ॥
Kamar katārā baʼnkuṛā banke kā asvār.
A beautiful dagger hangs by your waist, and you ride such a beautiful horse.

ਗਰਬੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਮਤੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਭਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
गरबु न कीजै नानका मतु सिरि आवै भारु ॥३॥
Garab na kījai nānkā maṯ sir āvai bẖār. ||3||
But don't be too proud; O Nanak, you may fall head first to the ground. ||3||

ਸੋ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਲੈ ॥
सो सतसंगति सबदि मिलै जो गुरमुखि चलै ॥
So saṯsangaṯ sabaḏ milai jo gurmukẖ cẖalai.
They alone walk as Gurmukh, who receive the Shabad in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.

ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਨਿ ਸੇ ਸਚੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਖਰਚੁ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ॥
सचु धिआइनि से सचे जिन हरि खरचु धनु पलै ॥
Sacẖ ḏẖi▫ā▫in se sacẖe jin har kẖaracẖ ḏẖan palai.
Meditating on the True Lord, they become truthful; they carry in their robes the supplies of the Lord's wealth.

ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਦੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਚਲੈ ॥
भगत सोहनि गुण गावदे गुरमति अचलै ॥
Bẖagaṯ sohan guṇ gāvḏe gurmaṯ acẖlai.
The devotees look beautiful, singing the Praises of the Lord; following the Guru's Teachings, they become stable and unchanging.

ਰਤਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਲੈ ॥
रतन बीचारु मनि वसिआ गुर कै सबदि भलै ॥
Raṯan bīcẖār man vasi▫ā gur kai sabaḏ bẖalai.
They enshrine the jewel of contemplation within their minds, and the most sublime Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ਆਪੇ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧੯॥
आपे मेलि मिलाइदा आपे देइ वडिआई ॥१९॥
Āpe mel milā▫iḏā āpe ḏe▫e vadi▫ā▫ī. ||19||
He Himself unites in His Union; He Himself grants glorious greatness. ||19||

Shalok, Third Mehl:

ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਕੋਇ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
आसा अंदरि सभु को कोइ निरासा होइ ॥
Āsā anḏar sabẖ ko ko▫e nirāsā ho▫e.
Everyone is filled with hope; hardly anyone is free of hope.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜੋ ਮਰਿ ਜੀਵਿਆ ਸਹਿਲਾ ਆਇਆ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
नानक जो मरि जीविआ सहिला आइआ सोइ ॥१॥
Nānak jo mar jīvi▫ā sahilā ā▫i▫ā so▫e. ||1||
O Nanak, blessed is the birth of one, who remains dead while yet alive. ||1||

ਨਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਆਸਾ ਹਥਿ ਹੈ ਕੇਉ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
ना किछु आसा हथि है केउ निरासा होइ ॥
Nā kicẖẖ āsā hath hai ke▫o nirāsā ho▫e.
Nothing is in the hands of hope. How can one become free of hope?

ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਏਹ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਜਾਂ ਭੋੁਲਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥
किआ करे एह बपुड़ी जां भोलाए सोइ ॥२॥
Ki▫ā kare eh bapuṛī jāʼn bẖolā▫e so▫e. ||2||
What can this poor being do? The Lord Himself creates confusion. ||2||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ॥
ध्रिगु जीवणु संसार सचे नाम बिनु ॥
Ḏẖarig jīvaṇ sansār sacẖe nām bin.
Cursed is the life in this world, without the True Name.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਦਾਤਾਰ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਏਹੁ ਧਨੁ ॥
प्रभु दाता दातार निहचलु एहु धनु ॥
Parabẖ ḏāṯā ḏāṯār nihcẖal ehu ḏẖan.
God is the Great Giver of givers. His wealth is permanent and unchanging.

ਸਾਸਿ ਸਾਸਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਨੁ ॥
सासि सासि आराधे निरमलु सोइ जनु ॥
Sās sās ārāḏẖe nirmal so▫e jan.
That humble being is immaculate, who worships the Lord with each and every breath.

ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਅਗਮੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਏਕੁ ਭਨੁ ॥
अंतरजामी अगमु रसना एकु भनु ॥
Anṯarjāmī agam rasnā ek bẖan.
With your tongue, vibrate the One Inaccessible Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.

ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਰਬਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨੦॥
रवि रहिआ सरबति नानकु बलि जाई ॥२०॥
Rav rahi▫ā sarbaṯ Nānak bal jā▫ī. ||20||
He is all-pervading everywhere. Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||20||

Salok mėhlā 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਸਰਵਰ ਹੰਸ ਧੁਰੇ ਹੀ ਮੇਲਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਏਵੈ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
सरवर हंस धुरे ही मेला खसमै एवै भाणा ॥
Sarvar hans ḏẖure hī melā kẖasmai evai bẖāṇā.
The union between the lake of the True Guru, and the swan of the soul, was pre-ordained from the very beginning, by the Pleasure of the Lord's Will.

ਸਰਵਰ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਹੀਰਾ ਮੋਤੀ ਸੋ ਹੰਸਾ ਕਾ ਖਾਣਾ ॥
सरवर अंदरि हीरा मोती सो हंसा का खाणा ॥
Sarvar anḏar hīrā moṯī so hansā kā kẖāṇā.
The diamonds are in this lake; they are the food of the swans.
|
ਬਗੁਲਾ ਕਾਗੁ ਨ ਰਹਈ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਜੇ ਹੋਵੈ ਅਤਿ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
बगुला कागु न रहई सरवरि जे होवै अति सिआणा ॥
Bagulā kāg na rah▫ī sarvar je hovai aṯ si▫āṇā.
The cranes and the ravens may be very wise, but they do not remain in this lake.
|
ਓਨਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਨ ਪਇਓ ਓਥੈ ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ਹੋਰੋ ਖਾਣਾ ॥
ओना रिजकु न पइओ ओथै ओन्हा होरो खाणा ॥
Onā rijak na pa▫i▫o othai onĥā horo kẖāṇā.
They do not find their food there; their food is different.
|
ਸਚਿ ਕਮਾਣੈ ਸਚੋ ਪਾਈਐ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੂੜਾ ਮਾਣਾ ॥
सचि कमाणै सचो पाईऐ कूड़ै कूड़ा माणा ॥
Sacẖ kamāṇai sacẖo pā▫ī▫ai kūrhai kūṛā māṇā.
Practicing Truth, the True Lord is found. False is the pride of the false.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੌ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਜਿਨਾ ਧੁਰੇ ਪੈਯਾ ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
नानक तिन कौ सतिगुरु मिलिआ जिना धुरे पैया परवाणा ॥१॥
Nānak ṯin kou saṯgur mili▫ā jinā ḏẖure paiyā parvāṇā. ||1||
O Nanak, they alone meet the True Guru, who are so pre-destined by the Lord's Command. ||1||

ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਉਜਲਾ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
साहिबु मेरा उजला जे को चिति करेइ ॥
Sāhib merā ujlā je ko cẖiṯ kare▫i.
My Lord and Master is immaculate, as are those who think of Him.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਜੋ ਦੇਇ ॥
नानक सोई सेवीऐ सदा सदा जो देइ ॥
Nānak so▫ī sevī▫ai saḏā saḏā jo ḏe▫e.
O Nanak, serve Him, who gives to you forever and ever.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਜਿਤੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
नानक सोई सेवीऐ जितु सेविऐ दुखु जाइ ॥
Nānak so▫ī sevī▫ai jiṯ sevi▫ai ḏukẖ jā▫e.
O Nanak, serve Him; by serving Him, sorrow is dispelled.

ਅਵਗੁਣ ਵੰਞਨਿ ਗੁਣ ਰਵਹਿ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਵਸੈ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
अवगुण वंञनि गुण रवहि मनि सुखु वसै आइ ॥२॥
Avguṇ vañan guṇ ravėh man sukẖ vasai ā▫e. ||2||
Faults and demerits vanish, and virtues take their place; peace comes to dwell in the mind. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤਦਾ ਆਪਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ॥
आपे आपि वरतदा आपि ताड़ी लाईअनु ॥
Āpe āp varaṯḏā āp ṯāṛī lā▫ī▫an.
He Himself is all-pervading; He Himself is absorbed in the profound state of Samaadhi.

ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਉਪਦੇਸਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਤੀਆਈਅਨੁ ॥
आपे ही उपदेसदा गुरमुखि पतीआईअनु ॥
Āpe hī upḏesḏā gurmukẖ paṯī▫ā▫ī▫an.
He Himself instructs; the Gurmukh is satisfied and fulfilled.

ਇਕਿ ਆਪੇ ਉਝੜਿ ਪਾਇਅਨੁ ਇਕਿ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇਅਨੁ ॥
इकि आपे उझड़ि पाइअनु इकि भगती लाइअनु ॥
Ik āpe ujẖaṛ pā▫i▫an ik bẖagṯī lā▫i▫an.
Some, He causes to wander in the wilderness, while others are committed to His devotional worship.
|
ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੋ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਆਪੇ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਈਅਨੁ ॥
जिसु आपि बुझाए सो बुझसी आपे नाइ लाईअनु ॥
Jis āp bujẖā▫e so bujẖsī āpe nā▫e lā▫ī▫an.
He alone understands, whom the Lord causes to understand; He Himself attaches mortals to His Name.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨੧॥੧॥ ਸੁਧੁ ॥
नानक नामु धिआईऐ सची वडिआई ॥२१॥१॥ सुधु ॥
Nānak nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī▫ai sacẖī vadi▫ā▫ī. ||21||1|| suḏẖ.
O Nanak, meditating on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, true greatness is obtained. ||21||1|| Sudh||
