ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
ता मिलीऐ जा लए मिलाइ ॥
Ŧā milī▫ai jā la▫e milā▫e.
Then alone one meets with Him, if He makes on meet Himself.

ਗੁਣਵੰਤੀ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਰੇ ਨੀਤ ॥
गुणवंती गुण सारे नीत ॥
Guṇvanṯī guṇ sāre nīṯ.
The virtuous bride ever reflects on her Lord's virtues.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਮੀਤ ॥੧੭॥
नानक गुरमति मिलीऐ मीत ॥१७॥
Nānak gurmaṯ milī▫ai mīṯ. ||17||
O Nanak, the mortal meets with his Lord, the Friend by Guru's instruction.

ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਉ ਗਾਲੈ ॥
कामु क्रोधु काइआ कउ गालै ॥
Kām kroḏẖ kā▫i▫ā ka▫o gālai.
The lust and wrath wastes body away,
|
ਜਿਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਸੋਹਾਗਾ ਢਾਲੈ ॥
जिउ कंचन सोहागा ढालै ॥
Ji▫o kancẖan sohāgā dẖālai.
as borax melts the Gold.
|
ਕਸਿ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਸਹੈ ਸੁ ਤਾਉ ॥
कसि कसवटी सहै सु ताउ ॥
Kas kasvatī sahai so ṯā▫o.
The gold is rubbed over the touch-stone and that gold endures the fire.
|
ਨਦਰਿ ਸਰਾਫ ਵੰਨੀ ਸਚੜਾਉ ॥
नदरि सराफ वंनी सचड़ाउ ॥
Naḏar sarāf vannī sacẖṛā▫o.
When it assumes the beauteous colour, it becomes acceptable to the assayer's eye.
|
ਜਗਤੁ ਪਸੂ ਅਹੰ ਕਾਲੁ ਕਸਾਈ ॥
जगतु पसू अहं कालु कसाई ॥
Jagaṯ pasū ahaʼn kāl kasā▫ī.
The world is an animal and the arrogant death is the butcher.
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
करि करतै करणी करि पाई ॥
Kar karṯai karṇī kar pā▫ī.
The Creator's created being obtains the recompense of his deeds.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
जिनि कीती तिनि कीमति पाई ॥
Jin kīṯī ṯin kīmaṯ pā▫ī.
He, who made the world, knows its worth.
|
ਹੋਰ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧੮॥
होर किआ कहीऐ किछु कहणु न जाई ॥१८॥
Hor ki▫ā kahī▫ai kicẖẖ kahaṇ na jā▫ī. ||18||
What, else can one say? One can say nothing.
|
ਖੋਜਤ ਖੋਜਤ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਆ ॥
खोजत खोजत अम्रितु पीआ ॥
Kẖojaṯ kẖojaṯ amriṯ pī▫ā.
Searching and searching, I have quaffed the Name-Nectar.
|
ਖਿਮਾ ਗਹੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਤਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ॥
खिमा गही मनु सतगुरि दीआ ॥
Kẖimā gahī man saṯgur ḏī▫ā.
I have adopted the way of tolerance and have surrendered my soul unto the True Guru.
|
ਖਰਾ ਖਰਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
खरा खरा आखै सभु कोइ ॥
Kẖarā kẖarā ākẖai sabẖ ko▫e.
True, true every one calls himself.
|
ਖਰਾ ਰਤਨੁ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਇ ॥
खरा रतनु जुग चारे होइ ॥
Kẖarā raṯan jug cẖāre ho▫e.
But he alone is true who contemplates the Name-Jewel through all the four ages.
|
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਅੰਤ ਮੂਏ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
खात पीअंत मूए नही जानिआ ॥
Kẖāṯ pī▫anṯ mū▫e nahī jāni▫ā.
Eating and drinking, the mortal dies, but he knows not his Lord.
|
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੂਏ ਜਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥
खिन महि मूए जा सबदु पछानिआ ॥
Kẖin mėh mū▫e jā sabaḏ pacẖẖāni▫ā.
He becomes dead in life in an instant, when he realises the Lord.
|
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਮਰਨਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
असथिरु चीतु मरनि मनु मानिआ ॥
Asthir cẖīṯ maran man māni▫ā.
Stable comes his mind and his soul likes this death. By Guru's grace, man relishes the Name.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥੧੯॥
गुर किरपा ते नामु पछानिआ ॥१९॥
Gur kirpā ṯe nām pacẖẖāni▫ā. ||19||
By Guru's grace, man realises the Name.
|
ਗਗਨ ਗੰਭੀਰੁ ਗਗਨੰਤਰਿ ਵਾਸੁ ॥
गगन ग्मभीरु गगनंतरि वासु ॥
Gagan gambẖīr gagnanṯar vās.
When the Infinite Lord abides in the man's mind-firmament,
|
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥
गुण गावै सुख सहजि निवासु ॥
Guṇ gāvai sukẖ sahj nivās.
he sings the Lord's praise and dwells in celestial peace.
|
ਗਇਆ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਆਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
गइआ न आवै आइ न जाइ ॥
Ga▫i▫ā na āvai ā▫e na jā▫e.
Going there, he comes not back, nor suffers he transmigration.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
गुर परसादि रहै लिव लाइ ॥
Gur parsāḏ rahai liv lā▫e.
By Guru's grace, he remains merged in the Lord's love.
|
ਗਗਨੁ ਅਗੰਮੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਅਜੋਨੀ ॥
गगनु अगमु अनाथु अजोनी ॥
Gagan agamm anāth ajonī.
My Master is Unapproachable, Self-dependent and Unborn.
|
ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਸਗੋਨੀ ॥
असथिरु चीतु समाधि सगोनी ॥
Asthir cẖīṯ samāḏẖ sagonī.
To fix the mind in Him is the meritorious trance,
|
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਵਹਿ ਨ ਜੂਨੀ ॥
हरि नामु चेति फिरि पवहि न जूनी ॥
Har nām cẖeṯ fir pavėh na jūnī.
Remembering the Lord's Name, one goes not round in existences again.
|
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਰੁ ਹੋਰ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨੀ ॥੨੦॥
गुरमति सारु होर नाम बिहूनी ॥२०॥
Gurmaṯ sār hor nām bihūnī. ||20||
Excellent is the Guru's way All other ways are bereft of the Name.
|
ਘਰ ਦਰ ਫਿਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਬਹੁਤੇਰੇ ॥
घर दर फिरि थाकी बहुतेरे ॥
Gẖar ḏar fir thākī bahuṯere.
I have grown weary of wandering at many houses and doors.
|
ਜਾਤਿ ਅਸੰਖ ਅੰਤ ਨਹੀ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
जाति असंख अंत नही मेरे ॥
Jāṯ asaʼnkẖ anṯ nahī mere.
Innumerable are my births. There is no limit to them.
|
ਕੇਤੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਧੀਆ ॥
केते मात पिता सुत धीआ ॥
Keṯe māṯ piṯā suṯ ḏẖī▫ā.
Good many became my mothers, fathers, sons and daughters
|
ਕੇਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਚੇਲੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਹੂਆ ॥
केते गुर चेले फुनि हूआ ॥
Keṯe gur cẖele fun hū▫ā.
Again, many have been my teachers and disciples.
|
ਕਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੂਆ ॥
काचे गुर ते मुकति न हूआ ॥
Kācẖe gur ṯe mukaṯ na hū▫ā.
Through the false Guru, one is emancipated not.
|
ਕੇਤੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਵਰੁ ਏਕੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
केती नारि वरु एकु समालि ॥
Keṯī nār var ek samāl.
Know thou that the Groom is One and the brides are many.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
गुरमुखि मरणु जीवणु प्रभ नालि ॥
Gurmukẖ maraṇ jīvaṇ parabẖ nāl.
The pious lives and dies in her Lord's will.
|
ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਢੂਢਿ ਘਰੈ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
दह दिस ढूढि घरै महि पाइआ ॥
Ḏah ḏis dẖūdẖ gẖarai mėh pā▫i▫ā.
Searching in ten direction, I have found my spouse in my very home.
|
ਮੇਲੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੨੧॥
मेलु भइआ सतिगुरू मिलाइआ ॥२१॥
Mel bẖa▫i▫ā saṯgurū milā▫i▫ā. ||21||
I have met my Groom and the True Guru has made me meet Him,
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੋਲੈ ॥
गुरमुखि गावै गुरमुखि बोलै ॥
Gurmukẖ gāvai gurmukẖ bolai.
The pious persons sings God's praise. The God-conscious being utters His Name.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੋਲਿ ਤੋੁਲਾਵੈ ਤੋਲੈ ॥
गुरमुखि तोलि तोलावै तोलै ॥
Gurmukẖ ṯol ṯolāvai ṯolai.
The Guru-ward evaluates the value of the Lord and makes others evaluate Him.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ॥
गुरमुखि आवै जाइ निसंगु ॥
Gurmukẖ āvai jā▫e nisang.
The God-conscious being comes and goes without fear.
|
ਪਰਹਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਜਲਾਇ ਕਲੰਕੁ ॥
परहरि मैलु जलाइ कलंकु ॥
Parhar mail jalā▫e kalank.
He washes off his filth and burns his disrepute.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि नाद बेद बीचारु ॥
Gurmukẖ nāḏ beḏ bīcẖār.
The holy man's word is the deliberation of the Veda.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਚਜੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि मजनु चजु अचारु ॥
Gurmukẖ majan cẖaj acẖār.
The holy man's ablution at holies consists in doing good deeds.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
गुरमुखि सबदु अम्रितु है सारु ॥
Gurmukẖ sabaḏ amriṯ hai sār.
The Exalted Guru's word is the sublime Nectar.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੨੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि पावै पारु ॥२२॥
Nānak gurmukẖ pāvai pār. ||22||
Nanak, the God-conscious beings swims across the world-ocean.
|
ਚੰਚਲੁ ਚੀਤੁ ਨ ਰਹਈ ਠਾਇ ॥
चंचलु चीतु न रहई ठाइ ॥
Cẖancẖal cẖīṯ na rah▫ī ṯẖā▫e.
The mercurial mind remains not steady.
|
ਚੋਰੀ ਮਿਰਗੁ ਅੰਗੂਰੀ ਖਾਇ ॥
चोरी मिरगु अंगूरी खाइ ॥
Cẖorī mirag angūrī kẖā▫e.
The mind-deer secretly eats the green shoots of sin.
|
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਉਰ ਧਾਰੇ ਚੀਤ ॥
चरन कमल उर धारे चीत ॥
Cẖaran kamal ur ḏẖāre cẖīṯ.
He, who enshrines the Lord's lotus feet in his mind and heart,
|
ਚਿਰੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਚੇਤਨੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥
चिरु जीवनु चेतनु नित नीत ॥
Cẖir jīvan cẖeṯan niṯ nīṯ.
and ever, ever remembers the Lord, lives eternally.
|
ਚਿੰਤਤ ਹੀ ਦੀਸੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
चिंतत ही दीसै सभु कोइ ॥
Cẖinṯaṯ hī ḏīsai sabẖ ko▫e.
Every one seems to be care-ridden.
|
ਚੇਤਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਤਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
चेतहि एकु तही सुखु होइ ॥
Cẖīṯėh ek ṯahī sukẖ ho▫e.
He alone obtains peace, who contemplates the One Lord.
|
ਚਿਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਰਾਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
चिति वसै राचै हरि नाइ ॥
Cẖiṯ vasai rācẖai har nā▫e.
He, in whose mind the Lord abides and who is absorbed in God's Name,
|
ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭਇਆ ਪਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਘਰਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨੩॥
मुकति भइआ पति सिउ घरि जाइ ॥२३॥
Mukaṯ bẖa▫i▫ā paṯ si▫o gẖar jā▫e. ||23||
is emancipated and goes to his home with honour.
|
ਛੀਜੈ ਦੇਹ ਖੁਲੈ ਇਕ ਗੰਢਿ ॥
छीजै देह खुलै इक गंढि ॥
Cẖẖījai ḏeh kẖulai ik gandẖ.
The body is destroyed with the loosening of a knot.
|
ਛੇਆ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਜਗਿ ਹੰਢਿ ॥
छेआ नित देखहु जगि हंढि ॥
Cẖẖe▫ā niṯ ḏekẖhu jag handẖ.
See thou by going around, that the world is subject to universal destruction.
|
ਧੂਪ ਛਾਵ ਜੇ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
धूप छाव जे सम करि जाणै ॥
Ḏẖūp cẖẖāv je sam kar jāṇai.
One, who deems sunshine add shade alike,
|
ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਆਣੈ ॥
बंधन काटि मुकति घरि आणै ॥
Banḏẖan kāt mukaṯ gẖar āṇai.
shatters his shackles and is emancipated (or brings the salvation to his home).
|
ਛਾਇਆ ਛੂਛੀ ਜਗਤੁ ਭੁਲਾਨਾ ॥
छाइआ छूछी जगतु भुलाना ॥
Cẖẖā▫i▫ā cẖẖūcẖẖī jagaṯ bẖulānā.
The trifling mammon has strayed the world.
|
ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਿਰਤੁ ਧੁਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਨਾ ॥
लिखिआ किरतु धुरे परवाना ॥
Likẖi▫ā kiraṯ ḏẖure parvānā.
Such a writ is pre-ordained in accordance with the mortal's past deeds.
|
ਛੀਜੈ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਜਰੂਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੁ ॥
छीजै जोबनु जरूआ सिरि कालु ॥
Cẖẖījai joban jarū▫ā sir kāl.
His youth shall waste away and over his head hover old age and death.
