ਓਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
ओहु बिधाता मनु तनु देइ ॥
Oh biḏẖāṯā man ṯan ḏe▫e.
He, the Destiny-scribe, blesses us with soul and body.
|
ਓਹੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਮਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
ओहु बिधाता मनि मुखि सोइ ॥
Oh biḏẖāṯā man mukẖ so▫e.
That sublime Creator, I keep within my mind and mouth.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
प्रभु जगजीवनु अवरु न कोइ ॥
Parabẖ jagjīvan avar na ko▫e.
The Lord is the Life of the world. Without Him there is not another.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੯॥
नानक नामि रते पति होइ ॥९॥
Nānak nām raṯe paṯ ho▫e. ||9||
Nanak, imbued with God's Name, the mortal obtains honour.
|
ਰਾਜਨ ਰਾਮ ਰਵੈ ਹਿਤਕਾਰਿ ॥
राजन राम रवै हितकारि ॥
Rājan rām ravai hiṯkār.
He, who lovingly utters the Name of God, the King,
|
ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਲੂਝੈ ਮਨੂਆ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
रण महि लूझै मनूआ मारि ॥
Raṇ mėh lūjẖai manū▫ā mār.
engaging in combat, overpowers his mind,,
|
ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤਿ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
राति दिनंति रहै रंगि राता ॥
Rāṯ ḏinanṯ rahai rang rāṯā.
and night and day remains imbued with his Lord's Love;
|
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
तीनि भवन जुग चारे जाता ॥
Ŧīn bẖavan jug cẖāre jāṯā.
He is renowned in the three worlds and the four ages.
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਜੇਹਾ ॥
जिनि जाता सो तिस ही जेहा ॥
Jin jāṯā so ṯis hī jehā.
He, who knows the Lord, becomes like Him.
|
ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਾਇਲੁ ਸੀਝਸਿ ਦੇਹਾ ॥
अति निरमाइलु सीझसि देहा ॥
Aṯ nirmā▫il sījẖas ḏehā.
He is rendered very pure and his body is sanctified.
|
ਰਹਸੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਇਕ ਭਾਇ ॥
रहसी रामु रिदै इक भाइ ॥
Rahsī rām riḏai ik bẖā▫e.
In the love of One Lord, he remains happy, within his mind.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
अंतरि सबदु साचि लिव लाइ ॥१०॥
Anṯar sabaḏ sācẖ liv lā▫e. ||10||
In his mind, he enshrines love for the True Name.
|
ਰੋਸੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੇ ॥
रोसु न कीजै अम्रितु पीजै रहणु नही संसारे ॥
Ros na kījai amriṯ pījai rahaṇ nahī sansāre.
Be thou not cross with thy Lord and quaff His elixir, Thou art not to stay long in this world.
|
ਰਾਜੇ ਰਾਇ ਰੰਕ ਨਹੀ ਰਹਣਾ ਆਇ ਜਾਇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ॥
राजे राइ रंक नही रहणा आइ जाइ जुग चारे ॥
Rāje rā▫e rank nahī rahṇā ā▫e jā▫e jug cẖāre.
The kings, the emperors and the paupers, shall remain not, They continue coming and going, the four ages through.
|
ਰਹਣ ਕਹਣ ਤੇ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਕਿਸੁ ਪਹਿ ਕਰਉ ਬਿਨੰਤੀ ॥
रहण कहण ते रहै न कोई किसु पहि करउ बिनंती ॥
Rahaṇ kahaṇ ṯe rahai na ko▫ī kis pėh kara▫o binanṯī.
Everyone says he will remain here and still no one remains, Then before whom should I make a supplication when no one is permanent?
|
ਏਕੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਰੋਧਰੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਪਤਿ ਮਤੀ ॥੧੧॥
एकु सबदु राम नाम निरोधरु गुरु देवै पति मती ॥११॥
Ėk sabaḏ rām nām niroḏẖar gur ḏevai paṯ maṯī. ||11||
The One Name of the Lords Master is eternally efficacious. The Guru alone blesses the mortal with honour and sound under standing.
|
ਲਾਜ ਮਰੰਤੀ ਮਰਿ ਗਈ ਘੂਘਟੁ ਖੋਲਿ ਚਲੀ ॥
लाज मरंती मरि गई घूघटु खोलि चली ॥
Lāj maranṯī mar ga▫ī gẖūgẖat kẖol cẖalī.
My shyness and hesitation has died and perished away and I now walk unveiling my face.
|
ਸਾਸੁ ਦਿਵਾਨੀ ਬਾਵਰੀ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਕ ਟਲੀ ॥
सासु दिवानी बावरी सिर ते संक टली ॥
Sās ḏivānī bāvrī sir ṯe sank talī.
My crazy mother-in-law (mammon) is gone mad and her fear is removed off my head now.
|
ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਬੁਲਾਈ ਰਲੀ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ॥
प्रेमि बुलाई रली सिउ मन महि सबदु अनंदु ॥
Parem bulā▫ī ralī si▫o man mėh sabaḏ anand.
With caressing affection, my Beloved has summoned me and in my mind is the joy of His Name.
|
ਲਾਲਿ ਰਤੀ ਲਾਲੀ ਭਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਈ ਨਿਚਿੰਦੁ ॥੧੨॥
लालि रती लाली भई गुरमुखि भई निचिंदु ॥१२॥
Lāl raṯī lālī bẖa▫ī gurmukẖ bẖa▫ī nicẖinḏ. ||12||
Imbued with the Love of my Beloved, I have become His hand-maiden and by Guru's grace am rendered care-free.
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਪਿ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
लाहा नामु रतनु जपि सारु ॥
Lāhā nām raṯan jap sār.
Reap thou the excellent profit of the meditation of the Name-jewel.
|
ਲਬੁ ਲੋਭੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
लबु लोभु बुरा अहंकारु ॥
Lab lobẖ burā ahaʼnkār.
Evil are avarice, covetousness and egotism.
|
ਲਾੜੀ ਚਾੜੀ ਲਾਇਤਬਾਰੁ ॥
लाड़ी चाड़ी लाइतबारु ॥
Lāṛī cẖāṛī lā▫iṯbār.
Practising slander, commendation and back-biting,
|
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਅੰਧਾ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਗਵਾਰੁ ॥
मनमुखु अंधा मुगधु गवारु ॥
Manmukẖ anḏẖā mugaḏẖ gavār.
the apostate is gone blind, foolish and ignorant.
|
ਲਾਹੇ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਆਇਆ ਜਗਿ ॥
लाहे कारणि आइआ जगि ॥
Lāhe kāraṇ ā▫i▫ā jag.
The mortal comes into the world for earning some profit.
|
ਹੋਇ ਮਜੂਰੁ ਗਇਆ ਠਗਾਇ ਠਗਿ ॥
होइ मजूरु गइआ ठगाइ ठगि ॥
Ho▫e majūr ga▫i▫ā ṯẖagā▫e ṯẖag.
He becomes a cooly and cheated by the mammon-cheat.
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ਵੇਸਾਹੁ ॥
लाहा नामु पूंजी वेसाहु ॥
Lāhā nām pūnjī vesāhu.
He, who with the capital of faith, reaps the profit of the Name,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੀ ਪਤਿ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ॥੧੩॥
नानक सची पति सचा पातिसाहु ॥१३॥
Nānak sacẖī paṯ sacẖā pāṯisāhu. ||13||
O Nanak, gathers true honour and is the true King.
|
ਆਇ ਵਿਗੂਤਾ ਜਗੁ ਜਮ ਪੰਥੁ ॥
आइ विगूता जगु जम पंथु ॥
Ā▫e vigūṯā jag jam panth.
Adopting the way of death, the world is ruined.
|
ਆਈ ਨ ਮੇਟਣ ਕੋ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
आई न मेटण को समरथु ॥
Ā▫ī na metaṇ ko samrath.
No one is potent to undo the influence of mammon.
|
ਆਥਿ ਸੈਲ ਨੀਚ ਘਰਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
आथि सैल नीच घरि होइ ॥
Āth sail nīcẖ gẖar ho▫e.
If wealth visits the house of even a groveling clown,
|
ਆਥਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਵੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੋਇ ॥
आथि देखि निवै जिसु दोइ ॥
Āth ḏekẖ nivai jis ḏo▫e.
beholding that wealth, both the rich and the poor, play homage to him.
|
ਆਥਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਾ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
आथि होइ ता मुगधु सिआना ॥
Āth ho▫e ṯā mugaḏẖ si▫ānā.
If there be riches, then even and idiot is looked upon as wise.
|
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਜਗੁ ਬਉਰਾਨਾ ॥
भगति बिहूना जगु बउराना ॥
Bẖagaṯ bihūnā jag ba▫urānā.
Without the Lord's devotional service, the world is stark mad.
|
ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਇ ॥
सभ महि वरतै एको सोइ ॥
Sabẖ mėh varṯai eko so▫e.
He, the one Lord, is contained amongst all.
|
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧੪॥
जिस नो किरपा करे तिसु परगटु होइ ॥१४॥
Jis no kirpā kare ṯis pargat ho▫e. ||14||
He manifests Himself unto him, on whom is His grace.
|
ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਥਾਪਿ ਸਦਾ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ॥
जुगि जुगि थापि सदा निरवैरु ॥
Jug jug thāp saḏā nirvair.
The Uninimical Lord is ever stable all the ages through.
|
ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰਣਿ ਨਹੀ ਧੰਧਾ ਧੈਰੁ ॥
जनमि मरणि नही धंधा धैरु ॥
Janam maraṇ nahī ḏẖanḏẖā ḏẖair.
He is involved not in strifes, nor come sand goes He.
|
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
जो दीसै सो आपे आपि ॥
Jo ḏīsai so āpe āp.
Whatever is seen that is the Lord Himself.
|
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਘਟ ਥਾਪਿ ॥
आपि उपाइ आपे घट थापि ॥
Āp upā▫e āpe gẖat thāp.
Creating Himself, the Lord Himself installs the soul, in the body.
|
ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਧੰਧੈ ਲੋਈ ॥
आपि अगोचरु धंधै लोई ॥
Āp agocẖar ḏẖanḏẖai lo▫ī.
He Himself, is beyond comprehension and the men are involved in worldly affairs.
|
ਜੋਗ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
जोग जुगति जगजीवनु सोई ॥
Jog jugaṯ jagjīvan so▫ī.
He, the life of the world Himself shows the way to union with Himself.
|
ਕਰਿ ਆਚਾਰੁ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
करि आचारु सचु सुखु होई ॥
Kar ācẖār sacẖ sukẖ ho▫ī.
Practising pious deeds, mortal obtains true peace.
|
ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਾ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਵ ਹੋਈ ॥੧੫॥
नाम विहूणा मुकति किव होई ॥१५॥
Nām vihūṇā mukaṯ kiv ho▫ī. ||15||
Bereft of the Lord's Name, how can man be emancipated?
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਵੇਰੋਧੁ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
विणु नावै वेरोधु सरीर ॥
viṇ nāvai veroḏẖ sarīr.
Without the Name, even the body is an enemy.
|
ਕਿਉ ਨ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਕਾਟਹਿ ਮਨ ਪੀਰ ॥
किउ न मिलहि काटहि मन पीर ॥
Ki▫o na milėh kātėh man pīr.
To still thy soul's pain, why meetest thou not with thy Lord?
|
ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
वाट वटाऊ आवै जाइ ॥
vāt vatā▫ū āvai jā▫e.
The way-farer comes and goes along the high way.
|
ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਆਇਆ ਕਿਆ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
किआ ले आइआ किआ पलै पाइ ॥
Ki▫ā le ā▫i▫ā ki▫ā palai pā▫e.
What did he bring and what shall he take along with himself?
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਤੋਟਾ ਸਭ ਥਾਇ ॥
विणु नावै तोटा सभ थाइ ॥
viṇ nāvai ṯotā sabẖ thā▫e.
Without the Name, one suffers loss everywhere.
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਇ ॥
लाहा मिलै जा देइ बुझाइ ॥
Lāhā milai jā ḏe▫e bujẖā▫e.
When the Lord makes man realise Him, then earns he the profit.
|
ਵਣਜੁ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ਵਣਜੈ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥
वणजु वापारु वणजै वापारी ॥
vaṇaj vāpār vaṇjai vāpārī.
In trade and traffic, the dealer deals in.
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੈਸੀ ਪਤਿ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੧੬॥
विणु नावै कैसी पति सारी ॥१६॥
viṇ nāvai kaisī paṯ sārī. ||16||
Without the Name, how can he have real honour?
|
ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਸੋਇ ॥
गुण वीचारे गिआनी सोइ ॥
Guṇ vīcẖāre gi▫ānī so▫e.
He alone is a divine who deliberates over God's virtues.
|
ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
गुण महि गिआनु परापति होइ ॥
Guṇ mėh gi▫ān parāpaṯ ho▫e.
Through pondering over the Divine knowledge.
|
ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
गुणदाता विरला संसारि ॥
Guṇḏāṯā virlā sansār.
Rare is the persons, who is the giver of virtues in the world.
|
ਸਾਚੀ ਕਰਣੀ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
साची करणी गुर वीचारि ॥
Sācẖī karṇī gur vīcẖār.
The true way of life is obtained by Guru's instruction.
|
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
अगम अगोचरु कीमति नही पाइ ॥
Agam agocẖar kīmaṯ nahī pā▫e.
The worth of the Inaccessible and Inapprehensible Lord can be assessed not.
