ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਮਾਇ ਬਾਪ ਪੂਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै माइ बाप पूत ॥
Kāhū bihāvai mā▫e bāp pūṯ.
Some pass their lives with their mothers, fathers and children.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
काहू बिहावै राज मिलख वापारा ॥
Kāhū bihāvai rāj milakẖ vāpārā.
Some pass their lives in power, estates and trade.

ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
संत बिहावै हरि नाम अधारा ॥१॥
Sanṯ bihāvai har nām aḏẖārā. ||1||
The Saints pass their lives with the support of the Lord's Name. ||1||
|
ਰਚਨਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਬਨੀ ॥
रचना साचु बनी ॥
Racẖnā sācẖ banī.
The world is the creation of the True Lord.
|
ਸਭ ਕਾ ਏਕੁ ਧਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सभ का एकु धनी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sabẖ kā ek ḏẖanī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He alone is the Master of all. ||1||Pause||

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਬੇਦ ਅਰੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै बेद अरु बादि ॥
Kāhū bihāvai beḏ ar bāḏ.
Some pass their lives in arguments and debates about scriptures.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै रसना सादि ॥
Kāhū bihāvai rasnā sāḏ.
Some pass their lives tasting flavors.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
काहू बिहावै लपटि संगि नारी ॥
Kāhū bihāvai lapat sang nārī.
Some pass their lives attached to women.
|
ਸੰਤ ਰਚੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
संत रचे केवल नाम मुरारी ॥२॥
Sanṯ racẖe keval nām murārī. ||2||
The Saints are absorbed only in the Name of the Lord. ||2||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਖੇਲਤ ਜੂਆ ॥
काहू बिहावै खेलत जूआ ॥
Kāhū bihāvai kẖelaṯ jū▫ā.
Some pass their lives gambling.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਹੂਆ ॥
काहू बिहावै अमली हूआ ॥
Kāhū bihāvai amlī hū▫ā.
Some pass their lives getting drunk.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਚੋੁਰਾਏ ॥
काहू बिहावै पर दरब चोराए ॥
Kāhū bihāvai par ḏarab cẖorā▫e.
Some pass their lives stealing the property of others.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
हरि जन बिहावै नाम धिआए ॥३॥
Har jan bihāvai nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e. ||3||
The humble servants of the Lord pass their lives meditating on the Naam. ||3||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੋਗ ਤਪ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
काहू बिहावै जोग तप पूजा ॥
Kāhū bihāvai jog ṯap pūjā.
Some pass their lives in Yoga, strict meditation, worship and adoration.

ਕਾਹੂ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਭਰਮੀਜਾ ॥
काहू रोग सोग भरमीजा ॥
Kāhū rog sog bẖarmījā.
Some, in sickness, sorrow and doubt.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਪਵਨ ਧਾਰ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਏ ॥
काहू पवन धार जात बिहाए ॥
Kāhū pavan ḏẖār jāṯ bihā▫e.
Some pass their lives practicing control of the breath.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥
संत बिहावै कीरतनु गाए ॥४॥
Sanṯ bihāvai kīrṯan gā▫e. ||4||
The Saints pass their lives singing the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises. ||4||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਚਾਲਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै दिनु रैनि चालत ॥
Kāhū bihāvai ḏin rain cẖālaṯ.
Some pass their lives walking day and night.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਿੜੁ ਮਾਲਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै सो पिड़ु मालत ॥
Kāhū bihāvai so piṛ mālaṯ.
Some pass their lives on the fields of battle.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਬਾਲ ਪੜਾਵਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै बाल पड़ावत ॥
Kāhū bihāvai bāl paṛāvaṯ.
Some pass their lives teaching children.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ॥੫॥
संत बिहावै हरि जसु गावत ॥५॥
Sanṯ bihāvai har jas gāvaṯ. ||5||
The Saints pass their lives singing the Lord's Praise. ||5||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਨਟ ਨਾਟਿਕ ਨਿਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै नट नाटिक निरते ॥
Kāhū bihāvai nat nātik nirṯe.
Some pass their lives as actors, acting and dancing.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੀਆਇਹ ਹਿਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै जीआइह हिरते ॥
Kāhū bihāvai jī▫ā▫ih hirṯe.
Some pass their lives taking the lives of others.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਡਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै राज महि डरते ॥
Kāhū bihāvai rāj mėh darṯe.
Some pass their lives ruling by intimidation.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤੇ ॥੬॥
संत बिहावै हरि जसु करते ॥६॥
Sanṯ bihāvai har jas karṯe. ||6||
The Saints pass their lives chanting the Lord's Praises. ||6||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै मता मसूरति ॥
Kāhū bihāvai maṯā masūraṯ.
Some pass their lives counseling and giving advice.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਰੂਰਤਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै सेवा जरूरति ॥
Kāhū bihāvai sevā jarūraṯ.
Some pass their lives forced to serve others.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਧਤ ਜੀਵਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै सोधत जीवत ॥
Kāhū bihāvai soḏẖaṯ jīvaṯ.
Some pass their lives exploring life's mysteries.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ॥੭॥
संत बिहावै हरि रसु पीवत ॥७॥
Sanṯ bihāvai har ras pīvaṯ. ||7||
The Saints pass their lives drinking in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||7||
|
ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
जितु को लाइआ तित ही लगाना ॥
Jiṯ ko lā▫i▫ā ṯiṯ hī lagānā.
As the Lord attaches us, so we are attached.
|
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂੜੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
ना को मूड़ु नही को सिआना ॥
Nā ko mūṛ nahī ko si▫ānā.
No one is foolish, and no one is wise.
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
करि किरपा जिसु देवै नाउ ॥
Kar kirpā jis ḏevai nā▫o.
To those who are blessed by His Grace to receive His Name,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੩॥
नानक ता कै बलि बलि जाउ ॥८॥३॥
Nānak ṯā kai bal bal jā▫o. ||8||3||
Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them. ||8||3||

Rāmkalī mėhlā 5.
Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਟ ॥
दावा अगनि रहे हरि बूट ॥
Ḏāvā agan rahe har būt.
Even in a forest fire, some trees remain green.
|
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟ ॥
मात गरभ संकट ते छूट ॥
Māṯ garabẖ sankat ṯe cẖẖūt.
The infant is released from the pain of the mother's womb.
|
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
जा का नामु सिमरत भउ जाइ ॥
Jā kā nām simraṯ bẖa▫o jā▫e.
Meditating in remembrance on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, fear is dispelled.
|
ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
तैसे संत जना राखै हरि राइ ॥१॥
Ŧaise sanṯ janā rākẖai har rā▫e. ||1||
Just so, the Sovereign Lord protects and saves the Saints. ||1||
|
ਐਸੇ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
ऐसे राखनहार दइआल ॥
Aise rākẖanhār ḏa▫i▫āl.
Such is the Merciful Lord, my Protector.
|
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जत कत देखउ तुम प्रतिपाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jaṯ kaṯ ḏekẖ▫a▫u ṯum parṯipāl. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Wherever I look, I see You cherishing and nurturing. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਖਾ ਮਿਟੰਤ ॥
जलु पीवत जिउ तिखा मिटंत ॥
Jal pīvaṯ ji▫o ṯikẖā mitanṯ.
As thirst is quenched by drinking water;
|
ਧਨ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਕੰਤ ॥
धन बिगसै ग्रिहि आवत कंत ॥
Ḏẖan bigsai garihi āvaṯ kanṯ.
as the bride blossoms forth when her husband comes home;
|
ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
लोभी का धनु प्राण अधारु ॥
Lobẖī kā ḏẖan parāṇ aḏẖār.
as wealth is the support of the greedy person -
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
तिउ हरि जन हरि हरि नाम पिआरु ॥२॥
Ŧi▫o har jan har har nām pi▫ār. ||2||
just so, the humble servant of the Lord loves the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
|
ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
किरसानी जिउ राखै रखवाला ॥
Kirsānī ji▫o rākẖai rakẖvālā.
As the farmer protects his fields;
|
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
मात पिता दइआ जिउ बाला ॥
Māṯ piṯā ḏa▫i▫ā ji▫o bālā.
as the mother and father show compassion to their child;
|
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
प्रीतमु देखि प्रीतमु मिलि जाइ ॥
Parīṯam ḏekẖ parīṯam mil jā▫e.
as the lover merges on seeing the beloved;
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
तिउ हरि जन राखै कंठि लाइ ॥३॥
Ŧi▫o har jan rākẖai kanṯẖ lā▫e. ||3||
just so does the Lord hug His humble servant close in His Embrace. ||3||
|
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
जिउ अंधुले पेखत होइ अनंद ॥
Ji▫o anḏẖule pekẖaṯ ho▫e anand.
As the blind man is in ecstasy, when he can see again;
|
ਗੂੰਗਾ ਬਕਤ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਛੰਦ ॥
गूंगा बकत गावै बहु छंद ॥
Gūngā bakaṯ gāvai baho cẖẖanḏ.
and the mute, when he is able to speak and sing songs;
|
ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਰਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
पिंगुल परबत परते पारि ॥
Pingul parbaṯ parṯe pār.
and the cripple, being able to climb over the mountain -
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
हरि कै नामि सगल उधारि ॥४॥
Har kai nām sagal uḏẖār. ||4||
just so, the Name of the Lord saves all. ||4||
|
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਤ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥
जिउ पावक संगि सीत को नास ॥
Ji▫o pāvak sang sīṯ ko nās.
As cold is dispelled by fire,
|
ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
ऐसे प्राछत संतसंगि बिनास ॥
Aise parācẖẖaṯ saṯsang binās.
sins are driven out in the Society of the Saints.
|
ਜਿਉ ਸਾਬੁਨਿ ਕਾਪਰ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਤ ॥
जिउ साबुनि कापर ऊजल होत ॥
Ji▫o sābun kāpar ūjal hoṯ.
As cloth is cleaned by soap,
|
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਤ ॥੫॥
नाम जपत सभु भ्रमु भउ खोत ॥५॥
Nām japaṯ sabẖ bẖaram bẖa▫o kẖoṯ. ||5||
just so, by chanting the Naam, all doubts and fears are dispelled. ||5||
|
ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥
जिउ चकवी सूरज की आस ॥
Ji▫o cẖakvī sūraj kī ās.
As the chakvi bird longs for the sun,
|
ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
जिउ चात्रिक बूंद की पिआस ॥
Ji▫o cẖāṯrik būnḏ kī pi▫ās.
as the rainbird thirsts for the rain drop,
|
ਜਿਉ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
जिउ कुरंक नाद करन समाने ॥
Ji▫o kurank nāḏ karan samāne.
as the deer's ears are attuned to the sound of the bell,
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ॥੬॥
तिउ हरि नाम हरि जन मनहि सुखाने ॥६॥
Ŧi▫o har nām har jan manėh sukẖāne. ||6||
the Lord's Name is pleasing to the mind of the Lord's humble servant. ||6||
