ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਿ
ग्रिहि सोभा जा कै रे नाहि ॥
Garihi sobẖā jā kai re nāhi.
When someone's household has no glory,

ਆਵਤ ਪਹੀਆ ਖੂਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ
आवत पहीआ खूधे जाहि ॥
Āvaṯ pahī▫ā kẖūḏẖe jāhi.
the guests who come there depart still hungry.

ਵਾ ਕੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ
वा कै अंतरि नही संतोखु ॥
vā kai anṯar nahī sanṯokẖ.
Deep within, there is no contentment.

ਬਿਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਦੋਖੁ ॥੧॥
बिनु सोहागनि लागै दोखु ॥१॥
Bin sohāgan lāgai ḏokẖ. ||1||
Without his bride, the wealth of Maya, he suffers in pain. ||1||

ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਮਹਾ ਪਵੀਤ
धनु सोहागनि महा पवीत ॥
Ḏẖan sohāgan mahā pavīṯ.
So praise this bride the chaste of all,

ਤਪੇ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਡੋਲੈ ਚੀਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
तपे तपीसर डोलै चीत ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧape ṯapīsar dolai cẖīṯ. ||1|| rahā▫o.
who can shake the consciousness of even the most dedicated ascetics and sages. ||1||Pause||

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਕਿਰਪਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਤੀ
सोहागनि किरपन की पूती ॥
Sohāgan kirpan kī pūṯī.
This bride is the daughter of a wretched miser.

ਸੇਵਕ ਤਜਿ ਜਗਤ ਸਿਉ ਸੂਤੀ
सेवक तजि जगत सिउ सूती ॥
Sevak ṯaj jagaṯ si▫o sūṯī.
Abandoning the Lord's servant, she sleeps with the world.

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੈ ਠਾਢੀ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ
साधू कै ठाढी दरबारि ॥
Sāḏẖū kai ṯẖādẖī ḏarbār.
Standing at the door of the holy man,

ਸਰਨਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿ ॥੨॥
सरनि तेरी मो कउ निसतारि ॥२॥
Saran ṯerī mo ka▫o nisṯār. ||2||
she says, "I have come to your sanctuary; now save me!"||2||

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਹੈ ਅਤਿ ਸੁੰਦਰੀ
सोहागनि है अति सुंदरी ॥
Sohāgan hai aṯ sunḏrī.
This bride is so beautiful.

ਪਗ ਨੇਵਰ ਛਨਕ ਛਨਹਰੀ
पग नेवर छनक छनहरी ॥
Pag nevar cẖẖanak cẖẖanharī.
The bells on her ankles make soft music.

ਜਉ ਲਗੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਊ ਲਗੁ ਸੰਗੇ
जउ लगु प्रान तऊ लगु संगे ॥
Ja▫o lag parān ṯa▫ū lag sange.
As long as there is the breath of life in the man, she remains attached to him.

ਨਾਹਿ ਚਲੀ ਬੇਗਿ ਉਠਿ ਨੰਗੇ ॥੩॥
नाहि त चली बेगि उठि नंगे ॥३॥
Nāhi ṯa cẖalī beg uṯẖ nange. ||3||
But when it is no more, she quickly gets up and departs, bare-footed. ||3||

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਤ੍ਰੈ ਲੀਆ
सोहागनि भवन त्रै लीआ ॥
Sohāgan bẖavan ṯarai lī▫ā.
This bride has conquered the three worlds.

ਦਸ ਅਠ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਤੀਰਥ ਰਸ ਕੀਆ
दस अठ पुराण तीरथ रस कीआ ॥
Ḏas aṯẖ purāṇ ṯirath ras kī▫ā.
The eighteen Puraanas and the sacred shrines of pilgrimage love her as well.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਰ ਬੇਧੇ
ब्रहमा बिसनु महेसर बेधे ॥
Barahmā bisan mahesar beḏẖe.
She pierced the hearts of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.

ਬਡੇ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਹੈ ਛੇਧੇ ॥੪॥
बडे भूपति राजे है छेधे ॥४॥
Bade bẖūpaṯ rāje hai cẖẖeḏẖe. ||4||
She destroyed the great emperors and kings of the world. ||4||

ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਉਰਵਾਰਿ ਪਾਰਿ
सोहागनि उरवारि न पारि ॥
Sohāgan urvār na pār.
This bride has no restraint or limits.

ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਧਵਾਰਿ
पांच नारद कै संगि बिधवारि ॥
Pāʼncẖ nāraḏ kai sang biḏẖvār.
She is in collusion with the five thieving passions.

ਪਾਂਚ ਨਾਰਦ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਵੇ ਫੂਟੇ
पांच नारद के मिटवे फूटे ॥
Pāʼncẖ nāraḏ ke mitve fūte.
When the clay pot of these five passions bursts,

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਛੂਟੇ ॥੫॥੫॥੮॥
कहु कबीर गुर किरपा छूटे ॥५॥५॥८॥
Kaho Kabīr gur kirpā cẖẖūte. ||5||5||8||
then, says Kabeer, by Guru's Mercy, one is released. ||5||5||8||

ਜੈਸੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਲਹਰ ਨਾ ਠਾਹਰੈ
जैसे मंदर महि बलहर ना ठाहरै ॥
Jaise manḏar mėh balhar nā ṯẖāhrai.
As the house will not stand when the supporting beams are removed from within it,

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੈ
नाम बिना कैसे पारि उतरै ॥
Nām binā kaise pār uṯrai.
just so, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be carried across?

ਕੁੰਭ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਲੁ ਨਾ ਟੀਕਾਵੈ
कु्मभ बिना जलु ना टीकावै ॥
Kumbẖ binā jal nā tīkāvai.
Without the pitcher, the water is not contained;

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਐਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
साधू बिनु ऐसे अबगतु जावै ॥१॥
Sāḏẖū bin aise abgaṯ jāvai. ||1||
just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||1||

ਜਾਰਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਜੁ ਰਾਮੁ ਚੇਤੈ
जारउ तिसै जु रामु न चेतै ॥
Jāra▫o ṯisai jo rām na cẖeṯai.
One who does not remember the Lord - let him burn;

ਤਨ ਮਨ ਰਮਤ ਰਹੈ ਮਹਿ ਖੇਤੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
तन मन रमत रहै महि खेतै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ŧan man ramaṯ rahai mėh kẖeṯai. ||1|| rahā▫o.
his body and mind have remained absorbed in this field of the world. ||1||Pause||

ਜੈਸੇ ਹਲਹਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਿਮੀ ਨਹੀ ਬੋਈਐ
जैसे हलहर बिना जिमी नही बोईऐ ॥
Jaise halhar binā jimī nahī bo▫ī▫ai.
Without a farmer, the land is not planted;

ਸੂਤ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਮਣੀ ਪਰੋਈਐ
सूत बिना कैसे मणी परोईऐ ॥
Sūṯ binā kaise maṇī paroī▫ai.
without a thread, how can the beads be strung?

ਘੁੰਡੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਗੰਠਿ ਚੜ੍ਹਾਈਐ
घुंडी बिनु किआ गंठि चड़्हाईऐ ॥
Gẖundī bin ki▫ā ganṯẖ cẖaṛĥā▫ī▫ai.
Without a loop, how can the knot be tied?

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਤੈਸੇ ਅਬਗਤੁ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
साधू बिनु तैसे अबगतु जाईऐ ॥२॥
Sāḏẖū bin ṯaise abgaṯ jā▫ī▫ai. ||2||
Just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||2||

ਜੈਸੇ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਾਲੁ ਹੋਈ
जैसे मात पिता बिनु बालु न होई ॥
Jaise māṯ piṯā bin bāl na ho▫ī.
Without a mother or father there is no child;

ਬਿੰਬ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਕਪਰੇ ਧੋਈ
बि्मब बिना कैसे कपरे धोई ॥
Bimb binā kaise kapre ḏẖo▫ī.
just so, without water, how can the clothes be washed?

ਘੋਰ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਅਸਵਾਰ
घोर बिना कैसे असवार ॥
Gẖor binā kaise asvār.
Without a horse, how can there be a rider?

ਸਾਧੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਦਰਵਾਰ ॥੩॥
साधू बिनु नाही दरवार ॥३॥
Sāḏẖū bin nāhī ḏarvār. ||3||
Without the Holy Saint, one cannot reach the Court of the Lord. ||3||

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਜੇ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਲੀਜੈ ਫੇਰੀ
जैसे बाजे बिनु नही लीजै फेरी ॥
Jaise bāje bin nahī lījai ferī.
Just as without music, there is no dancing,

ਖਸਮਿ ਦੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਉਹੇਰੀ
खसमि दुहागनि तजि अउहेरी ॥
Kẖasam ḏuhāgan ṯaj a▫uherī.
the bride rejected by her husband is dishonored.

ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਏਕੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਨਾ
कहै कबीरु एकै करि करना ॥
Kahai Kabīr ekai kar karnā.
Says Kabeer, do this one thing:

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਮਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੯॥
गुरमुखि होइ बहुरि नही मरना ॥४॥६॥९॥
Gurmukẖ ho▫e bahur nahī marnā. ||4||6||9||
become Gurmukh, and you shall never die again. ||4||6||9||

Gond:

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਕਉ ਕੂਟੈ
कूटनु सोइ जु मन कउ कूटै ॥
Kūtan so▫e jo man ka▫o kūtai.
He alone is a pimp, who pounds down his mind.

ਮਨ ਕੂਟੈ ਤਉ ਜਮ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ
मन कूटै तउ जम ते छूटै ॥
Man kūtai ṯa▫o jam ṯe cẖẖūtai.
Pounding down his mind, he escapes from the Messenger of Death.

ਕੁਟਿ ਕੁਟਿ ਮਨੁ ਕਸਵਟੀ ਲਾਵੈ
कुटि कुटि मनु कसवटी लावै ॥
Kut kut man kasvatī lāvai.
Pounding and beating his mind, he puts it to the test;

ਸੋ ਕੂਟਨੁ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਬਹੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
सो कूटनु मुकति बहु पावै ॥१॥
So kūtan mukaṯ baho pāvai. ||1||
such a pimp attains total liberation. ||1||

ਕੂਟਨੁ ਕਿਸੈ ਕਹਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰ
कूटनु किसै कहहु संसार ॥
Kūtan kisai kahhu sansār.
Who is called a pimp in this world?

ਸਗਲ ਬੋਲਨ ਕੇ ਮਾਹਿ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
सगल बोलन के माहि बीचार ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sagal bolan ke māhi bīcẖār. ||1|| rahā▫o.
In all speech, one must carefully consider. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਚਨੁ ਸੋਇ ਜੁ ਮਨ ਸਿਉ ਨਾਚੈ
नाचनु सोइ जु मन सिउ नाचै ॥
Nācẖan so▫e jo man si▫o nācẖai.
He alone is a dancer, who dances with his mind.

ਝੂਠਿ ਪਤੀਐ ਪਰਚੈ ਸਾਚੈ
झूठि न पतीऐ परचै साचै ॥
Jẖūṯẖ na paṯī▫ai parcẖai sācẖai.
The Lord is not satisfied with falsehood; He is pleased only with Truth.

ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਆਗੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਤਾਲ
इसु मन आगे पूरै ताल ॥
Is man āge pūrai ṯāl.
So play the beat of the drum in the mind.

ਇਸੁ ਨਾਚਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਰਖਵਾਲ ॥੨॥
इसु नाचन के मन रखवाल ॥२॥
Is nācẖan ke man rakẖvāl. ||2||
The Lord is the Protector of the dancer with such a mind. ||2||

ਬਜਾਰੀ ਸੋ ਜੁ ਬਜਾਰਹਿ ਸੋਧੈ
बजारी सो जु बजारहि सोधै ॥
Bajārī so jo bajārahi soḏẖai.
She alone is a street-dancer, who cleanses her body-street,

ਪਾਂਚ ਪਲੀਤਹ ਕਉ ਪਰਬੋਧੈ
पांच पलीतह कउ परबोधै ॥
Pāʼncẖ palīṯėh ka▫o parboḏẖai.
and educates the five passions.

ਨਉ ਨਾਇਕ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਪਛਾਨੈ
नउ नाइक की भगति पछानै ॥
Na▫o nā▫ik kī bẖagaṯ pacẖẖānai.
She who embraces devotional worship for the Lord -

ਸੋ ਬਾਜਾਰੀ ਹਮ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨੇ ॥੩॥
सो बाजारी हम गुर माने ॥३॥
So bājārī ham gur māne. ||3||
I accept such a street-dancer as my Guru. ||3||

ਤਸਕਰੁ ਸੋਇ ਜਿ ਤਾਤਿ ਕਰੈ
तसकरु सोइ जि ताति न करै ॥
Ŧaskar so▫e jė ṯāṯ na karai.
He alone is a thief, who is above envy,

ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਕੈ ਜਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਰੈ
इंद्री कै जतनि नामु उचरै ॥
Inḏrī kai jaṯan nām ucẖrai.
and who uses his sense organs to chant the Lord's Name.

ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਲਖਨ
कहु कबीर हम ऐसे लखन ॥
Kaho Kabīr ham aise lakẖan.
Says Kabeer, these are the qualities of the one

ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਅਤਿ ਰੂਪ ਬਿਚਖਨ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੦॥
धंनु गुरदेव अति रूप बिचखन ॥४॥७॥१०॥
Ḏẖan gurḏev aṯ rūp bicẖkẖan. ||4||7||10||
I know as my Blessed Divine Guru, who is the most beautiful and wise. ||4||7||10||
