ਮਨ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਨ ਪਤੀਨਾ ॥
Man kaṯẖor ajhū na paṯīnā.
Even then, his hardened mind was not satisfied.

ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮਰਾ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੁ ॥
Kahi Kabīr hamrā gobinḏ.
Says Kabeer, such is my Lord and Master.

ਚਉਥੇ ਪਦ ਮਹਿ ਜਨ ਕੀ ਜਿੰਦੁ ॥੪॥੧॥੪॥
Cẖa▫uthe paḏ mėh jan kī jinḏ. ||4||1||4||
The soul of His humble servant dwells in the fourth state. ||4||1||4||

ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਦੇਉ ॥
Nā ih mānas nā ih ḏe▫o.
It is not human, and it is not a god.
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜਤੀ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਉ ॥
Nā ih jaṯī kahāvai se▫o.
It is not called celibate, or a worshipper of Shiva.
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਨਾ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥
Nā ih jogī nā avḏẖūṯā.
It is not a Yogi, and it is not a hermit.
|
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਮਾਇ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਪੂਤਾ ॥੧॥
Nā is mā▫e na kāhū pūṯā. ||1||
It is not a mother, or anyone's son. ||1||
|
ਇਆ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਕੌਨ ਬਸਾਈ ॥
I▫ā manḏar mėh koun basā▫ī.
Then what is it, which dwells in this temple of the body?
|
ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Ŧā kā anṯ na ko▫ū pā▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
No one can find its limits. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਗਿਰਹੀ ਨਾ ਓਦਾਸੀ ॥
Nā ih girhī nā oḏāsī.
It is not a house-holder, and it is not a renouncer of the world.
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਜ ਨ ਭੀਖ ਮੰਗਾਸੀ ॥
Nā ih rāj na bẖīkẖ mangāsī.
It is not a king, and it is not a beggar.
|
ਨਾ ਇਸੁ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਨ ਰਕਤੂ ਰਾਤੀ ॥
Nā is pind na rakṯū rāṯī.
It has no body, no drop of blood.
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਨੁ ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਖਾਤੀ ॥੨॥
Nā ih barahman nā ih kẖāṯī. ||2||
It is not a Brahmin, and it is not a Kshatriya. ||2||
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਤਪਾ ਕਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਖੁ ॥
Nā ih ṯapā kahāvai sekẖ.
It is not called a man of austere self-discipline, or a Shaykh.
|
ਨਾ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨ ਮਰਤਾ ਦੇਖੁ ॥
Nā ih jīvai na marṯā ḏekẖ.
It does not live, and it is not seen to die.
|
ਇਸੁ ਮਰਤੇ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਕੋਊ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
Is marṯe ka▫o je ko▫ū rovai.
If someone cries over its death,
|
ਜੋ ਰੋਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
Jo rovai so▫ī paṯ kẖovai. ||3||
that person loses his honor. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੈ ਡਗਰੋ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Gur parsāḏ mai dagro pā▫i▫ā.
By Guru's Grace, I have found the Path.
|
ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨੁ ਦੋਊ ਮਿਟਵਾਇਆ ॥
Jīvan maran ḏo▫ū mitvā▫i▫ā.
Birth and death have both been erased.
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਇਹੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੀ ਅੰਸੁ ॥
Kaho Kabīr ih rām kī aʼns.
Says Kabeer, this is formed of the same essence as the Lord.

ਜਸ ਕਾਗਦ ਪਰ ਮਿਟੈ ਨ ਮੰਸੁ ॥੪॥੨॥੫॥
Jas kāgaḏ par mitai na mans. ||4||2||5||
It is like the ink on the paper which cannot be erased. ||4||2||5||

ਤੂਟੇ ਤਾਗੇ ਨਿਖੁਟੀ ਪਾਨਿ ॥
Ŧūte ṯāge nikẖutī pān.
The threads are broken, and the starch has run out.
|
ਦੁਆਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਝਿਲਕਾਵਹਿ ਕਾਨ ॥
Ḏu▫ār ūpar jẖilkāvahi kān.
Bare reeds glisten at the front door.
|
ਕੂਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ਫੂਏ ਫਾਲ ॥
Kūcẖ bicẖāre fū▫e fāl.
The poor brushes are scattered in pieces.
|
ਇਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਚਢਿਬੋ ਕਾਲ ॥੧॥
I▫ā mundī▫ā sir cẖadẖibo kāl. ||1||
Death has entered this shaven head. ||1||
|
ਇਹੁ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਸਗਲੋ ਦ੍ਰਬੁ ਖੋਈ ॥
Ih mundī▫ā saglo ḏarab kẖo▫ī.
This shaven-headed mendicant has wasted all his wealth.
|
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਨਾਕ ਸਰ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Āvaṯ jāṯ nāk sar ho▫ī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
All this coming and going has irritated him. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਛੋਡੀ ਬਾਤਾ ॥
Ŧurī nār kī cẖẖodī bāṯā.
He has given up all talk of his weaving equipment.
|
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਵਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
Rām nām vā kā man rāṯā.
His mind is attuned to the Lord's Name.
|
ਲਰਿਕੀ ਲਰਿਕਨ ਖੈਬੋ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
Larikī larikan kẖaibo nāhi.
His daughters and sons have nothing to eat,
|
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧਾਪੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥
Mundī▫ā an▫ḏin ḏẖāpe jāhi. ||2||
while the shaven-headed mendicants night and day eat their fill. ||2||
|
ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਇਕ ਦੁਇ ਬਾਟ ॥
Ik ḏu▫e manḏar ik ḏu▫e bāt.
One or two are in the house, and one or two more are on the way.
|
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਸਾਥਰੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਖਾਟ ॥
Ham ka▫o sāthar un ka▫o kẖāt.
We sleep on the floor, while they sleep in the beds.
|
ਮੂਡ ਪਲੋਸਿ ਕਮਰ ਬਧਿ ਪੋਥੀ ॥
Mūd palos kamar baḏẖ pothī.
They rub their bare heads, and carry prayer-books in their waist-bands.
|
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਚਾਬਨੁ ਉਨ ਕਉ ਰੋਟੀ ॥੩॥
Ham ka▫o cẖāban un ka▫o rotī. ||3||
We get dry grains, while they get loaves of bread. ||3||
|
ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਹੂਏ ਏਕ ॥
Mundī▫ā mundī▫ā hū▫e ek.
He will become one of these shaven-headed mendicants.
|
ਏ ਮੁੰਡੀਆ ਬੂਡਤ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ॥
Ė mundī▫ā būdaṯ kī tek.
They are the support of the drowning.
|
ਸੁਨਿ ਅੰਧਲੀ ਲੋਈ ਬੇਪੀਰਿ ॥
Sun anḏẖlī lo▫ī bepīr.
Listen, O blind and unguided Loi:

ਇਨ੍ਹ੍ਹ ਮੁੰਡੀਅਨ ਭਜਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਕਬੀਰ ॥੪॥੩॥੬॥
Inĥ mundī▫an bẖaj saran Kabīr. ||4||3||6||
Kabeer has taken shelter with these shaven-headed mendicants. ||4||3||6||

ਖਸਮੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਉ ਨਾਰਿ ਨ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
Kẖasam marai ṯa▫o nār na rovai.
When her husband dies, the woman does not cry.
|
ਉਸੁ ਰਖਵਾਰਾ ਅਉਰੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
Us rakẖvārā a▫uro hovai.
Someone else becomes her protector.
|
ਰਖਵਾਰੇ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
Rakẖvāre kā ho▫e binās.
When this protector dies,
|
ਆਗੈ ਨਰਕੁ ਈਹਾ ਭੋਗ ਬਿਲਾਸ ॥੧॥
Āgai narak īhā bẖog bilās. ||1||
he falls into the world of hell hereafter, for the sexual pleasures he enjoyed in this world. ||1||
|
ਏਕ ਸੁਹਾਗਨਿ ਜਗਤ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
Ėk suhāgan jagaṯ pi▫ārī.
The world loves only the one bride, Maya.
|
ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sagle jī▫a janṯ kī nārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
She is the wife of all beings and creatures. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਗਲਿ ਸੋਹੈ ਹਾਰੁ ॥
Sohāgan gal sohai hār.
With her necklace around her neck, this bride looks beautiful.
|
ਸੰਤ ਕਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
Sanṯ ka▫o bikẖ bigsai sansār.
She is poison to the Saint, but the world is delighted with her.
|
ਕਰਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਹੈ ਪਖਿਆਰੀ ॥
Kar sīgār bahai pakẖi▫ārī.
Adorning herself, she sits like a prostitute.
|
ਸੰਤ ਕੀ ਠਿਠਕੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
Sanṯ kī ṯẖiṯẖkī firai bicẖārī. ||2||
Cursed by the Saints, she wanders around like a wretch. ||2||
|
ਸੰਤ ਭਾਗਿ ਓਹ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਰੈ ॥
Sanṯ bẖāg oh pācẖẖai parai.
She runs around, chasing after the Saints.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਾਰਹੁ ਡਰੈ ॥
Gur parsādī mārahu darai.
She is afraid of being beaten by those blessed with the Guru's Grace.
|
ਸਾਕਤ ਕੀ ਓਹ ਪਿੰਡ ਪਰਾਇਣਿ ॥
Sākaṯ kī oh pind parā▫iṇ.
She is the body, the breath of life, of the faithless cynics.
|
ਹਮ ਕਉ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਰੈ ਤ੍ਰਖਿ ਡਾਇਣਿ ॥੩॥
Ham ka▫o ḏarisat parai ṯarakẖ dā▫iṇ. ||3||
She appears to me like a blood-thirsty witch. ||3||
|
ਹਮ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਬਹੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਭੇਉ ॥
Ham ṯis kā baho jāni▫ā bẖe▫o.
I know her secrets well -
|
ਜਬ ਹੂਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਮਿਲੇ ਗੁਰਦੇਉ ॥
Jab hū▫e kirpāl mile gurḏe▫o.
in His Mercy, the Divine Guru met me.
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਅਬ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਰੀ ॥
Kaho Kabīr ab bāhar parī.
Says Kabeer, now I have thrown her out.

ਸੰਸਾਰੈ ਕੈ ਅੰਚਲਿ ਲਰੀ ॥੪॥੪॥੭॥
Sansārai kai ancẖal larī. ||4||4||7||
She clings to the skirt of the world. ||4||4||7||
