सूहै वेसि पिरु किनै न पाइओ मनमुखि दझि मुई गावारि ॥
Sūhai ves pir kinai na pā▫i▫o manmukẖ ḏajẖ mu▫ī gāvār.
By wearing her red dress, no one has found her Husband Lord; the self-willed manmukh is burnt to death.
सतिगुरि मिलिऐ सूहा वेसु गइआ हउमै विचहु मारि ॥
Saṯgur mili▫ai sūhā ves ga▫i▫ā ha▫umai vicẖahu mār.
Meeting the True Guru, she discards her red dress, and eradicates egotism from within.
मनु तनु रता लालु होआ रसना रती गुण सारि ॥
Man ṯan raṯā lāl ho▫ā rasnā raṯī guṇ sār.
Her mind and body are imbued with the deep red color of His Love, and her tongue is imbued, singing His Praises and excellences.
सदा सोहागणि सबदु मनि भै भाइ करे सीगारु ॥
Saḏā sohagaṇ sabaḏ man bẖai bẖā▫e kare sīgār.
She becomes His soul-bride forever, with the Word of the Shabad in her mind; she makes the Fear of God and the Love of God her ornaments and decorations.
नानक करमी महलु पाइआ पिरु राखिआ उर धारि ॥१॥
Nānak karmī mahal pā▫i▫ā pir rākẖi▫ā ur ḏẖār. ||1||
O Nanak, by His Merciful Grace, she obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, and keeps Him enshrined in her heart. ||1||

Mėhlā 3.
Third Mehl:
मुंधे सूहा परहरहु लालु करहु सीगारु ॥
Munḏẖe sūhā parahrahu lāl karahu sīgār.
O bride, forsake your red dress, and decorate yourself with the crimson color of His Love.
आवण जाणा वीसरै गुर सबदी वीचारु ॥
Āvaṇ jāṇā vīsrai gur sabḏī vīcẖār.
Your comings and goings shall be forgotten, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
मुंध सुहावी सोहणी जिसु घरि सहजि भतारु ॥
Munḏẖ suhāvī sohṇī jis gẖar sahj bẖaṯār.
The soul-bride is adorned and beautiful; the Celestial Lord, her Husband, abides in her home.
नानक सा धन रावीऐ रावे रावणहारु ॥२॥
Nānak sā ḏẖan rāvī▫ai rāve ravaṇhār. ||2||
O Nanak, the bride ravishes and enjoys Him; and He, the Ravisher, ravishes and enjoys her. ||2||

Pauree:
मोहु कूड़ु कुट्मबु है मनमुखु मुगधु रता ॥
Moh kūṛ kutamb hai manmukẖ mugaḏẖ raṯā.
The foolish, self-willed manmukh is engrossed in false attachment to family.
हउमै मेरा करि मुए किछु साथि न लिता ॥
Ha▫umai merā kar mu▫e kicẖẖ sāth na liṯā.
Practicing egotism and self-conceit, he dies and departs, taking nothing along with him.
सिर उपरि जमकालु न सुझई दूजै भरमिता ॥
Sir upar jamkāl na sujẖ▫ī ḏūjai bẖarmiṯā.
He does not understand that the Messenger of Death is hovering over his head; he is deluded by duality.
फिरि वेला हथि न आवई जमकालि वसि किता ॥
Fir velā hath na āvī jamkāl vas kiṯā.
This opportunity will not come into his hands again; the Messenger of Death will seize him.
जेहा धुरि लिखि पाइओनु से करम कमिता ॥५॥
Jehā ḏẖur likẖ pā▫i▫on se karam kamiṯā. ||5||
He acts according to his pre-ordained destiny. ||5||
सलोकु मः ३ ॥
Salok mėhlā 3.
Shalok, Third Mehl:
सतीआ एहि न आखीअनि जो मड़िआ लगि जलंन्हि ॥
Saṯī▫ā ehi na ākẖī▫an jo maṛi▫ā lag jalaʼnniĥ.
Do not call them 'satee', who burn themselves along with their husbands' corpses.
नानक सतीआ जाणीअन्हि जि बिरहे चोट मरंन्हि ॥१॥
Nānak saṯī▫ā jāṇī▫aniĥ jė birhe cẖot maraʼnniĥ. ||1||
O Nanak, they alone are known as 'satee', who die from the shock of separation. ||1||

Third Mehl:
भी सो सतीआ जाणीअनि सील संतोखि रहंन्हि ॥
Bẖī so saṯī▫ā jāṇī▫an sīl sanṯokẖ rahaʼnniĥ.
They are also known as 'satee', who abide in modesty and contentment.
सेवनि साई आपणा नित उठि सम्हालंन्हि ॥२॥
Sevan sā▫ī āpṇā niṯ uṯẖ samĥālaʼnniĥ. ||2||
They serve their Lord, and rise in the early hours to contemplate Him. ||2||
मः ३ ॥
Mėhlā 3.
Third Mehl:
कंता नालि महेलीआ सेती अगि जलाहि ॥
Kanṯā nāl mahelī▫ā seṯī ag jalāhi.
The widows burn themselves in the fire, along with their husbands' corpses.
जे जाणहि पिरु आपणा ता तनि दुख सहाहि ॥
Je jāṇėh pir āpṇā ṯā ṯan ḏukẖ sahāhi.
If they truly knew their husbands, then they suffer terrible bodily pain.
नानक कंत न जाणनी से किउ अगि जलाहि ॥
Nānak kanṯ na jāṇnī se ki▫o ag jalāhi.
O Nanak, if they did not truly know their husbands, why should they burn themselves in the fire?
भावै जीवउ कै मरउ दूरहु ही भजि जाहि ॥३॥
Bẖāvai jīva▫o kai mara▫o ḏẖūrahu hī bẖaj jāhi. ||3||
Whether their husbands are alive or dead, those wives remain far away from them. ||3||
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:
तुधु दुखु सुखु नालि उपाइआ लेखु करतै लिखिआ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ ḏukẖ sukẖ nāl upā▫i▫ā lekẖ karṯai likẖi▫ā.
You created pain along with pleasure; O Creator, such is the writ You have written.
नावै जेवड होर दाति नाही तिसु रूपु न रिखिआ ॥
Nāvai jevad hor ḏāṯ nāhī ṯis rūp na rikẖi▫ā.
There is no other gift as great as the Name; it has no form or sign.
नामु अखुटु निधानु है गुरमुखि मनि वसिआ ॥
Nām akẖut niḏẖān hai gurmukẖ man vasi▫ā.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is an inexhaustible treasure; it abides in the mind of the Gurmukh.
करि किरपा नामु देवसी फिरि लेखु न लिखिआ ॥
Kar kirpā nām ḏevsī fir lekẖ na likẖi▫ā.
In His Mercy, He blesses us with the Naam, and then, the writ of pain and pleasure is not written.
सेवक भाइ से जन मिले जिन हरि जपु जपिआ ॥६॥
Sevak bẖā▫e se jan mile jin har jap japi▫ā. ||6||
Those humble servants who serve with love, meet the Lord, chanting the Chant of the Lord. ||6||
सलोकु मः २ ॥
Salok mėhlā 2.
Shalok, Second Mehl:
जिनी चलणु जाणिआ से किउ करहि विथार ॥
Jinī cẖalaṇ jāṇi▫ā se ki▫o karahi vithār.
They know that they will have to depart, so why do they make such ostentatious displays?
चलण सार न जाणनी काज सवारणहार ॥१॥
Cẖalaṇ sār na jāṇnī kāj savāraṇhār. ||1||
Those who do not know that they will have to depart, continue to arrange their affairs. ||1||
मः २ ॥
Mėhlā 2.
Second Mehl:
राति कारणि धनु संचीऐ भलके चलणु होइ ॥
Rāṯ kāraṇ ḏẖan sancẖī▫ai bẖalke cẖalaṇ ho▫e.
He accumulates wealth during the night of his life, but in the morning, he must depart.
नानक नालि न चलई फिरि पछुतावा होइ ॥२॥
Nānak nāl na cẖal▫ī fir pacẖẖuṯāvā ho▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, it shall not go along with him, and so he regrets. ||2||
मः २ ॥
Mėhlā 2.
Second Mehl:
बधा चटी जो भरे ना गुणु ना उपकारु ॥
Baḏẖā cẖatī jo bẖare nā guṇ nā upkār.
Paying a fine under pressure, does not bring either merit or goodness.
सेती खुसी सवारीऐ नानक कारजु सारु ॥३॥
Seṯī kẖusī savārī▫ai Nānak kāraj sār. ||3||
That alone is a good deed, O Nanak, which is done by one's own free will. ||3||
मः २ ॥
Mėhlā 2.
Second Mehl:
मनहठि तरफ न जिपई जे बहुता घाले ॥
Manhaṯẖ ṯaraf na jip▫ī je bahuṯā gẖāle.
Stubborn-mindedness will not win the Lord to one's side, no matter how much it is tried.
तरफ जिणै सत भाउ दे जन नानक सबदु वीचारे ॥४॥
Ŧaraf jiṇai saṯ bẖā▫o ḏe jan Nānak sabaḏ vīcẖāre. ||4||
The Lord is won over to your side, by offering Him your true love, O servant Nanak, and contemplating the Word of the Shabad. ||4||
पउड़ी ॥
Pa▫oṛī.
Pauree:
करतै कारणु जिनि कीआ सो जाणै सोई ॥
Karṯai kāraṇ jin kī▫ā so jāṇai so▫ī.
The Creator created the world; He alone understands it.
आपे स्रिसटि उपाईअनु आपे फुनि गोई ॥
Āpe sarisat upā▫ī▫an āpe fun go▫ī.
He Himself created the Universe, and He Himself shall destroy it afterwards.
