ਇਹੁ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਝੂਠੀ ਅੰਤਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਈ
इहु धनु स्मपै माइआ झूठी अंति छोडि चलिआ पछुताई ॥
Ih ḏẖan sampai mā▫i▫ā jẖūṯẖī anṯ cẖẖod cẖali▫ā pacẖẖuṯā▫ī.
This wealth, property and Maya are false. In the end, you must leave these, and depart in sorrow.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ
जिस नो किरपा करे गुरु मेले सो हरि हरि नामु समालि ॥
Jis no kirpā kare gur mele so har har nām samāl.
Those whom the Lord, in His Mercy, unites with the Guru, reflect upon the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੀਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੇ ਜਾਇ ਮਿਲੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੩॥
कहु नानक तीजै पहरै प्राणी से जाइ मिले हरि नालि ॥३॥
Kaho Nānak ṯījai pahrai parāṇī se jā▫e mile har nāl. ||3||
Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, O mortal, they go, and are united with the Lord. ||3||

ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਚਲਣ ਵੇਲਾ ਆਦੀ
चउथै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा हरि चलण वेला आदी ॥
Cẖa▫uthai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā har cẖalaṇ velā āḏī.
In the fourth watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord announces the time of departure.

ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਸਭ ਚਲੀ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਦੀ
करि सेवहु पूरा सतिगुरू वणजारिआ मित्रा सभ चली रैणि विहादी ॥
Kar sevhu pūrā saṯgurū vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā sabẖ cẖalī raiṇ vihāḏī.
Serve the Perfect True Guru, O my merchant friend; your entire life-night is passing away.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਢਿਲ ਮੂਲਿ ਕਰਿਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਹੋਵਹੁ
हरि सेवहु खिनु खिनु ढिल मूलि न करिहु जितु असथिरु जुगु जुगु होवहु ॥
Har sevhu kẖin kẖin dẖil mūl na karihu jiṯ asthir jug jug hovhu.
Serve the Lord each and every instant-do not delay! You shall become eternal throughout the ages.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਤੀ ਸਦ ਮਾਣਹੁ ਰਲੀਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਦੁਖ ਖੋਵਹੁ
हरि सेती सद माणहु रलीआ जनम मरण दुख खोवहु ॥
Har seṯī saḏ māṇhu ralī▫ā janam maraṇ ḏukẖ kẖovhu.
Enjoy ecstasy forever with the Lord, and do away with the pains of birth and death.

ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭੇਦੁ ਜਾਣਹੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁਖਾਂਦੀ
गुर सतिगुर सुआमी भेदु न जाणहु जितु मिलि हरि भगति सुखांदी ॥
Gur saṯgur su▫āmī bẖeḏ na jāṇhu jiṯ mil har bẖagaṯ sukẖāʼnḏī.
Know that there is no difference between the Guru, the True Guru, and your Lord and Master. Meeting with Him, take pleasure in the Lord's devotional service.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਸਫਲਿਓੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਭਗਤਾ ਦੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
कहु नानक प्राणी चउथै पहरै सफलिओ रैणि भगता दी ॥४॥१॥३॥
Kaho Nānak parāṇī cẖa▫uthai pahrai safli▫o raiṇ bẖagṯā ḏī. ||4||1||3||
Says Nanak, O mortal, in the fourth watch of the night, the life-night of the devotee is fruitful. ||4||1||3||

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ

Siree Raag, Fifth Mehl:

ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਧਰਿ ਪਾਇਤਾ ਉਦਰੈ ਮਾਹਿ
पहिलै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा धरि पाइता उदरै माहि ॥
Pahilai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā ḏẖar pā▫iṯā uḏrai māhi.
In the first watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the Lord placed your soul in the womb.

ਦਸੀ ਮਾਸੀ ਮਾਨਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਹਿ
दसी मासी मानसु कीआ वणजारिआ मित्रा करि मुहलति करम कमाहि ॥
Ḏasī māsī mānas kī▫ā vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā kar muhlaṯ karam kamāhi.
In the tenth month, you were made into a human being, O my merchant friend, and you were given your allotted time to perform good deeds.

ਮੁਹਲਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਣੇ ਜੈਸਾ ਲਿਖਤੁ ਧੁਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ
मुहलति करि दीनी करम कमाणे जैसा लिखतु धुरि पाइआ ॥
Muhlaṯ kar ḏīnī karam kamāṇe jaisā likẖaṯ ḏẖur pā▫i▫ā.
You were given this time to perform good deeds, according to your pre-ordained destiny.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਤਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸੰਜੋਇਆ
मात पिता भाई सुत बनिता तिन भीतरि प्रभू संजोइआ ॥
Māṯ piṯā bẖā▫ī suṯ baniṯā ṯin bẖīṯar parabẖū sanjo▫i▫ā.
God placed you with your mother, father, brothers, sons and wife.

ਕਰਮ ਸੁਕਰਮ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਇਸੁ ਜੰਤੈ ਵਸਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ
करम सुकरम कराए आपे इसु जंतै वसि किछु नाहि ॥
Karam sukaram karā▫e āpe is janṯai vas kicẖẖ nāhi.
God Himself is the Cause of causes, good and bad-no one has control over these things.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹਿਲੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਧਰਿ ਪਾਇਤਾ ਉਦਰੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
कहु नानक प्राणी पहिलै पहरै धरि पाइता उदरै माहि ॥१॥
Kaho Nānak parāṇī pahilai pahrai ḏẖar pā▫iṯā uḏrai māhi. ||1||
Says Nanak, O mortal, in the first watch of the night, the soul is placed in the womb. ||1||

ਦੂਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਭਰਿ ਜੁਆਨੀ ਲਹਰੀ ਦੇਇ
दूजै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा भरि जुआनी लहरी देइ ॥
Ḏūjai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā bẖar ju▫ānī lahrī ḏe▫e.
In the second watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the fullness of youth rises in you like waves.

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਪਛਾਣਈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਤਾ ਅਹੰਮੇਇ
बुरा भला न पछाणई वणजारिआ मित्रा मनु मता अहमेइ ॥
Burā bẖalā na pacẖẖāṇ▫ī vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā man maṯā ahame▫e.
You do not distinguish between good and evil, O my merchant friend-your mind is intoxicated with ego.

ਬੁਰਾ ਭਲਾ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਆਗੈ ਪੰਥੁ ਕਰਾਰਾ
बुरा भला न पछाणै प्राणी आगै पंथु करारा ॥
Burā bẖalā na pacẖẖāṇai parāṇī āgai panth karārā.
Mortal beings do not distinguish between good and evil, and the road ahead is treacherous.

ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਕਬਹੂੰ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਠਾਢੇ ਜਮ ਜੰਦਾਰਾ
पूरा सतिगुरु कबहूं न सेविआ सिरि ठाढे जम जंदारा ॥
Pūrā saṯgur kabahūʼn na sevi▫ā sir ṯẖādẖe jam janḏārā.
They never serve the Perfect True Guru, and the cruel tyrant Death stands over their heads.

ਧਰਮ ਰਾਇ ਜਬ ਪਕਰਸਿ ਬਵਰੇ ਤਬ ਕਿਆ ਜਬਾਬੁ ਕਰੇਇ
धरम राइ जब पकरसि बवरे तब किआ जबाबु करेइ ॥
Ḏẖaram rā▫e jab pakras bavre ṯab ki▫ā jabāb kare▫i.
When the Righteous Judge seizes you and interrogates you, O madman, what answer will you give him then?

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਦੂਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਭਰਿ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਲਹਰੀ ਦੇਇ ॥੨॥
कहु नानक दूजै पहरै प्राणी भरि जोबनु लहरी देइ ॥२॥
Kaho Nānak ḏūjai pahrai parāṇī bẖar joban lahrī ḏe▫e. ||2||
Says Nanak, in the second watch of the night, O mortal, the fullness of youth tosses you about like waves in the storm. ||2||

ਤੀਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ
तीजै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा बिखु संचै अंधु अगिआनु ॥
Ŧījai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā bikẖ sancẖai anḏẖ agi▫ān.
In the third watch of the night, O my merchant friend, the blind and ignorant person gathers poison.

ਪੁਤ੍ਰਿ ਕਲਤ੍ਰਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਿਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਲੋਭਾਨੁ
पुत्रि कलत्रि मोहि लपटिआ वणजारिआ मित्रा अंतरि लहरि लोभानु ॥
Puṯir kalṯir mohi lapti▫ā vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā anṯar lahar lobẖān.
He is entangled in emotional attachment to his wife and sons, O my merchant friend, and deep within him, the waves of greed are rising up.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਲੋਭਾਨੁ ਪਰਾਨੀ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਚਿਤਿ ਆਵੈ
अंतरि लहरि लोभानु परानी सो प्रभु चिति न आवै ॥
Anṯar lahar lobẖān parānī so parabẖ cẖiṯ na āvai.
The waves of greed are rising up within him, and he does not remember God.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਸੰਗੁ ਕੀਆ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਨੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ
साधसंगति सिउ संगु न कीआ बहु जोनी दुखु पावै ॥
Sāḏẖsangaṯ si▫o sang na kī▫ā baho jonī ḏukẖ pāvai.
He does not join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and he suffers in terrible pain through countless incarnations.

ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਕ ਨਿਮਖ ਲਗੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ
सिरजनहारु विसारिआ सुआमी इक निमख न लगो धिआनु ॥
Sirjanhār visāri▫ā su▫āmī ik nimakẖ na lago ḏẖi▫ān.
He has forgotten the Creator, his Lord and Master, and he does not meditate on Him, even for an instant.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਤੀਜੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਬਿਖੁ ਸੰਚੇ ਅੰਧੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ॥੩॥
कहु नानक प्राणी तीजै पहरै बिखु संचे अंधु अगिआनु ॥३॥
Kaho Nānak parāṇī ṯījai pahrai bikẖ sancẖe anḏẖ agi▫ān. ||3||
Says Nanak, in the third watch of the night, the blind and ignorant person gathers poison. ||3||

ਚਉਥੈ ਪਹਰੈ ਰੈਣਿ ਕੈ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਇਆ ਸੋਇ
चउथै पहरै रैणि कै वणजारिआ मित्रा दिनु नेड़ै आइआ सोइ ॥
Cẖa▫uthai pahrai raiṇ kai vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā ḏin neṛai ā▫i▫ā so▫e.
In the fourth watch of the night, O my merchant friend, that day is drawing near.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਤੂੰ ਵਣਜਾਰਿਆ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਦਰਗਹ ਬੇਲੀ ਹੋਇ
गुरमुखि नामु समालि तूं वणजारिआ मित्रा तेरा दरगह बेली होइ ॥
Gurmukẖ nām samāl ṯūʼn vaṇjāri▫ā miṯrā ṯerā ḏargėh belī ho▫e.
As Gurmukh, remember the Naam, O my merchant friend. It shall be your Friend in the Court of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ਪਰਾਣੀ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ
गुरमुखि नामु समालि पराणी अंते होइ सखाई ॥
Gurmukẖ nām samāl parāṇī anṯe ho▫e sakẖā▫ī.
As Gurmukh, remember the Naam, O mortal; in the end, it shall be your only companion.
