ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਲਾਇ ਲਏ ਸੋ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
Jis no lā▫e la▫e so lāgai.
He whom Lord attaches to His meditation, He alone is attached.

ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਗੈ ॥
Gi▫ān raṯan anṯar ṯis jāgai.
The gem of divine knowledge becomes manifest within his mind.
|
ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਇ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
Ḏurmaṯ jā▫e param paḏ pā▫e.
His evil-intellect is dispelled and he obtains the supreme status,
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
Gur parsādī nām ḏẖi▫ā▫e. ||3||
and by the Guru's grace, he meditates on the Name.
|
ਦੁਇ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ਕਰਉ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥
Ḏu▫e kar joṛ kara▫o arḏās.
Joining both the hands, I make a supplication before Thee, O my Lord.
|
ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਆਣਹਿ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
Ŧuḏẖ bẖāvai ṯā āṇėh rās.
If Thou willest, then alone Thou embellishes me.
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਭਗਤੀ ਲਾਇ ॥
Kar kirpā apnī bẖagṯī lā▫e.
Show Thou mercy unto me, O Lord and bless me with Thine devotional service.
|
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
Jan Nānak parabẖ saḏā ḏẖi▫ā▫e. ||4||2||
Servant Nanak, ever contemplates his Lord.

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Sūhī mėhlā 5.
Suhi 5th Guru.
|
ਧਨੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
Ḏẖan sohāgan jo parabẖū pacẖẖānai.
Blessed is the devoted wife, who knows her Lord,
|
ਮਾਨੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਤਜੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥
Mānai hukam ṯajai abẖimānai.
obeys His order and abandons her self-conceit.
|
ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਲੀਆ ਮਾਨੈ ॥੧॥
Pari▫a si▫o rāṯī ralī▫ā mānai. ||1||
Imbued with her Beloved, she makes merry.
|
ਸੁਨਿ ਸਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਣ ਨੀਸਾਨੀ ॥
Sun sakẖī▫e parabẖ milaṇ nīsānī.
O my mate, hear thou the way to meet thy Lord.
|
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਤਜਿ ਲਾਜ ਲੋਕਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Man ṯan arap ṯaj lāj lokānī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Dedicate thou thy soul and body to him, and lay aside the idea of feeling shame from the people. Pause.
|
ਸਖੀ ਸਹੇਲੀ ਕਉ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
Sakẖī sahelī ka▫o samjẖāvai.
One mate instructs her other mate that
|
ਸੋਈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
So▫ī kamāvai jo parabẖ bẖāvai.
She does only that which pleases her Lord.
|
ਸਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਣਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
Sā sohagaṇ ank samāvai. ||2||
Such a bride merges in the Being of her Lord.
|
ਗਰਬਿ ਗਹੇਲੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
Garab gahelī mahal na pāvai.
The bride, grasped by ego obtains not her Husband's presence.
|
ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵੈ ਜਬ ਰੈਣਿ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥
Fir pacẖẖuṯāvai jab raiṇ bihāvai.
When the night (life)passes away, then does she regret.
|
ਕਰਮਹੀਣਿ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
Karamhīṇ manmukẖ ḏukẖ pāvai. ||3||
The unfortunate willful wife suffers pain.
|
ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰੀ ਜੇ ਜਾਣਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
Bin▫o karī je jāṇā ḏūr.
I may pray to my Lord, if I deem Him far.
|
ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
Parabẖ abẖināsī rahi▫ā bẖarpūr.
The imperishable Lord is fully pervading everywhere.
|
ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥੩॥
Jan Nānak gāvai ḏekẖ haḏūr. ||4||3||
Seeing the Lord just present, slave Nanak sings His praise.

ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
Sūhī mėhlā 5.
Suhi 5th Guru.

ਗ੍ਰਿਹੁ ਵਸਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ਹਉ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
Garihu vas gur kīnā ha▫o gẖar kī nār.
The Guru has put the household under my control and I have become the mistress of the house.

ਦਸ ਦਾਸੀ ਕਰਿ ਦੀਨੀ ਭਤਾਰਿ ॥
Ḏas ḏāsī kar ḏīnī bẖaṯār.
My Spouse has made the ten sensory and action organs my slaves.
|
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਮੈ ਘਰ ਕੀ ਜੋੜੀ ॥
Sagal samagrī mai gẖar kī joṛī.
I have assembled all the things of the house.
|
ਆਸ ਪਿਆਸੀ ਪਿਰ ਕਉ ਲੋੜੀ ॥੧॥
Ās pi▫āsī pir ka▫o loṛī. ||1||
With thirsty desire I long for my Beloved.
|
ਕਵਨ ਕਹਾ ਗੁਨ ਕੰਤ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥
Kavan kahā gun kanṯ pi▫āre.
What merits of my darling Spouse should I mention?
|
ਸੁਘੜ ਸਰੂਪ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Sugẖaṛ sarūp ḏa▫i▫āl murāre. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He is Wise, beauteous and compassionate Lord. Pause.
|
ਸਤੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਭਉ ਅੰਜਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
Saṯ sīgār bẖa▫o anjan pā▫i▫ā.
I am embellished with truth and I have applied the pigment of Lord's fear to mine eye.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਤੰਬੋਲੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
Amriṯ nām ṯambol mukẖ kẖā▫i▫ā.
The Nectar Name is the betel, which I have chewed with my mouth.

ਕੰਗਨ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਗਹਨੇ ਬਨੇ ਸੁਹਾਵੇ ॥
Kangan basṯar gahne bane suhāve.
My bracelets, dress and ornaments beautifully adorn me.
|
ਧਨ ਸਭ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵੈ ਜਾਂ ਪਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
Ḏẖan sabẖ sukẖ pāvai jāʼn pir gẖar āvai. ||2||
The bride obtains all the happiness, when beloved Comes into her home.

ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਣ ਕਰਿ ਕੰਤੁ ਰੀਝਾਇਆ ॥
Guṇ kāmaṇ kar kanṯ rījẖā▫i▫ā.
By the charm of virtues, I have fascinated my Groom.
|
ਵਸਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
vas kar līnā gur bẖaram cẖukā▫i▫ā.
I have made Him subject to me and the made Him subject to me and the Guru has dispelled my doubt.

ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚਾ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
Sabẖ ṯe ūcẖā manḏar merā.
The highest of all is may mansion.
|
ਸਭ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਤਿਆਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
Sabẖ kāmaṇ ṯi▫āgī pari▫o parīṯam merā. ||3||
Forsaking all other brides, my Beloved has become my lover.
|
ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਸੂਰੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਉਜੀਆਰਾ ॥
Pargati▫ā sūr joṯ ujī▫ārā.
The sun has risen and its light has illumined everything.
|
ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ਸਰਧ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
Sej vicẖẖā▫ī saraḏẖ apārā.
With immense faith in Him I have spread my couch
|
ਨਵ ਰੰਗ ਲਾਲੁ ਸੇਜ ਰਾਵਣ ਆਇਆ ॥
Nav rang lāl sej rāvaṇ ā▫i▫ā.
My darling of ever-new colour has come to my couch to enjoy me.
|
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਰ ਧਨ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥
Jan Nānak pir ḏẖan mil sukẖ pā▫i▫ā. ||4||4||
Meeting her Spouse, O slave Nanak, the bride has obtained happiness.

ਉਮਕਿਓ ਹੀਉ ਮਿਲਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤਾਈ ॥
Umki▫o hī▫o milan parabẖ ṯā▫ī.
Desire has welled up in my mind to meet by Lord.
|
ਖੋਜਤ ਚਰਿਓ ਦੇਖਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਜਾਈ ॥
Kẖojaṯ cẖari▫o ḏekẖ▫a▫u pari▫a jā▫ī.
I go out to search and see my dear Spouse.
|
ਸੁਨਤ ਸਦੇਸਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛਾਈ ॥
Sunaṯ saḏesro pari▫a garihi sej vicẖẖā▫ī.
Hearing my Beloved's Message, I have spread out the couch in my home.

ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਇਓ ਤਉ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
Bẖaram bẖaram ā▫i▫o ṯa▫o naḏar na pā▫ī. ||1||
Roaming and rambling I returned and even then I saw my spouse not.
|
ਕਿਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਹੀਅਰੋ ਧੀਰੈ ਨਿਮਾਨੋ ॥
Kin biḏẖ hī▫aro ḏẖīrai nimāno.
In what way can this poor soul of mine take courage?
|
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਜਨ ਹਉ ਤੁਝੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੋ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
Mil sājan ha▫o ṯujẖ kurbāno. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Meet me, O my Friend, I am a sacrifice unto Thee. Pause.
|
ਏਕਾ ਸੇਜ ਵਿਛੀ ਧਨ ਕੰਤਾ ॥
Ėkā sej vicẖẖī ḏẖan kanṯā.
The same one bed is spread for the bride and her Bridegroom.
|
ਧਨ ਸੂਤੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੰਤਾ ॥
Ḏẖan sūṯī pir saḏ jāganṯā.
The bride is asleep and the Groom is ever-awake.
|
ਪੀਓ ਮਦਰੋ ਧਨ ਮਤਵੰਤਾ ॥
Pī▫o maḏro ḏẖan maṯvanṯā.
The wife is intoxicated as if she has taken wine.
|
ਧਨ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੇ ਪਿਰੁ ਬੋਲੰਤਾ ॥੨॥
Ḏẖan jāgai je pir bolanṯā. ||2||
The wife awakes from slumber, if the Groom gives her a call.
|
ਭਈ ਨਿਰਾਸੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਨ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
Bẖa▫ī nirāsī bahuṯ ḏin lāge.
Many days have passed and the bride has become hopeless.
|
ਦੇਸ ਦਿਸੰਤਰ ਮੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਝਾਗੇ ॥
Ḏes disanṯar mai sagle jẖāge.
I have wandered through all the countries and foreign lands.
