ਗਾਵੈ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੋ ॥
गावै गावणहारु सबदि सुहावणो ॥
Gāvai gāvaṇhār sabaḏ suhāvaṇo.
The singer, who sings the Lord's praise is embellished with His Name.

ਸਾਲਾਹਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਦਇਆ ਮਤੇ ॥
सालाहि साचे मंनि सतिगुरु पुंन दान दइआ मते ॥
Sālāhi sācẖe man saṯgur punn ḏān ḏa▫i▫ā maṯe.
Believe in the True Guru, praise thou the true Lord, in this is contained the merit of giving of alms and charity and the compassionate nature.

ਪਿਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਬੇਣੀ ਤ ਸੰਗਮੁ ਸਤ ਸਤੇ ॥
पिर संगि भावै सहजि नावै बेणी त संगमु सत सते ॥
Pir sang bẖāvai sahj nāvai beṇī ṯa sangam saṯ saṯe.
The truest of the true, who loves the society of her Beloved Lord, is deemed to bathe at the Trivani the confluence of Ganga Jamna and Saraswati.

ਆਰਾਧਿ ਏਕੰਕਾਰੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਿਤ ਦੇਇ ਚੜੈ ਸਵਾਇਆ ॥
आराधि एकंकारु साचा नित देइ चड़ै सवाइआ ॥
Ārāḏẖ ekankār sācẖā niṯ ḏe▫e cẖaṛai savā▫i▫ā.
Meditate thou on One True Lord, who ever, gives and whose gifts ever increase.

ਗਤਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਤਾ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਦਰਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
गति संगि मीता संतसंगति करि नदरि मेलि मिलाइआ ॥३॥
Gaṯ sang mīṯā sanṯsangaṯ kar naḏar mel milā▫i▫ā. ||3||
O friend, salvation, is obtained by associating with the society of saints, Showing His mercy, the Lord unites man in His union.

ਕਹਣੁ ਕਹੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਆਖੀਐ ॥
कहणु कहै सभु कोइ केवडु आखीऐ ॥
Kahaṇ kahai sabẖ ko▫e kevad ākẖī▫ai.
All utter the Lord's discourse. How great should I say, He is?

ਹਉ ਮੂਰਖੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਅਜਾਣੁ ਸਮਝਾ ਸਾਖੀਐ ॥
हउ मूरखु नीचु अजाणु समझा साखीऐ ॥
Ha▫o mūrakẖ nīcẖ ajāṇ samjẖā sākẖī▫ai.
I am unwise, low and ignorant and it is through the Guru's instruction that I understand Him.

ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਖੀ ਤਿਤੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
सचु गुर की साखी अम्रित भाखी तितु मनु मानिआ मेरा ॥
Sacẖ gur kī sākẖī amriṯ bẖākẖī ṯiṯ man māni▫ā merā.
True is the teaching of the Guru, whose worlds are Nectar like, With them my mind is pleased.

ਕੂਚੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
कूचु करहि आवहि बिखु लादे सबदि सचै गुरु मेरा ॥
Kūcẖ karahi āvahi bikẖ lāḏe sabaḏ sacẖai gur merā.
Laden with sin, men depart and then return. The True Lord is obtained through my Guru.

ਆਖਣਿ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸੋਈ ॥
आखणि तोटि न भगति भंडारी भरिपुरि रहिआ सोई ॥
Ākẖaṇ ṯot na bẖagaṯ bẖandārī bẖaripur rahi▫ā so▫ī.
There is no end to narration of the Lord's glory and the treasure of His devotion He is fully pervading everywhere.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਂਜੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧॥
नानक साचु कहै बेनंती मनु मांजै सचु सोई ॥४॥१॥
Nānak sācẖ kahai benanṯī man māʼnjai sacẖ so▫ī. ||4||1||
Nanak makes a true supplication, He, who cleanses his heart becomes truthful.

ਧਨਾਸਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥
धनासरी महला १ ॥

ਜੀਵਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਇ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
जीवा तेरै नाइ मनि आनंदु है जीउ ॥
Jīvā ṯerai nā▫e man ānanḏ hai jī▫o.
I live by Thine Name and my mind is in bliss, O Lord.

ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥
साचो साचा नाउ गुण गोविंदु है जीउ ॥
Sācẖo sācẖā nā▫o guṇ govinḏ hai jī▫o.
True is the Name and the praise of the True Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਿਰਜੀ ਤਿਨਿ ਗੋਈ ॥
गुर गिआनु अपारा सिरजणहारा जिनि सिरजी तिनि गोई ॥
Gur gi▫ān apārā sirjaṇhārā jin sirjī ṯin go▫ī.
Infinite is the gnosis of the Guru. The Creator, who creates the world, He also destroys it.

ਪਰਵਾਣਾ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਫੇਰਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
परवाणा आइआ हुकमि पठाइआ फेरि न सकै कोई ॥
Parvāṇā ā▫i▫ā hukam paṯẖā▫i▫ā fer na sakai ko▫ī.
When death's call, sent, by the Lord's command, is received, none can challenge it.

ਆਪੇ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
आपे करि वेखै सिरि सिरि लेखै आपे सुरति बुझाई ॥
Āpe kar vekẖai sir sir lekẖai āpe suraṯ bujẖā▫ī.
He Himself creates the world and takes ears of it. Over all the heads is His writ and He Himself impart understanding.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਜੀਵਾ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥੧॥
नानक साहिबु अगम अगोचरु जीवा सची नाई ॥१॥
Nānak sāhib agam agocẖar jīvā sacẖī nā▫ī. ||1||
Nanak, unreachable and unfathomable is the Lord and I live by His True Name.

ਤੁਮ ਸਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਆਇਆ ਜਾਇਸੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
तुम सरि अवरु न कोइ आइआ जाइसी जीउ ॥
Ŧum sar avar na ko▫e ā▫i▫ā jā▫isī jī▫o.
None else equals Thee, O Lord, all others continue coming and going.
|
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਬੇੜੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਸੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
हुकमी होइ निबेड़ु भरमु चुकाइसी जीउ ॥
Hukmī ho▫e nibeṛ bẖaram cẖukā▫isī jī▫o.
By Thine command the account is settled and the doubt is dispelled.

ਗੁਰੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਏ ਸਚ ਮਹਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥
गुरु भरमु चुकाए अकथु कहाए सच महि साचु समाणा ॥
Gur bẖaram cẖukā▫e akath kahā▫e sacẖ mėh sācẖ samāṇā.
The Guru dispels the doubt and makes man utter the Ineffable Lord. In truth the true one is absorbed.

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਆਪਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਾ ॥
आपि उपाए आपि समाए हुकमी हुकमु पछाणा ॥
Āp upā▫e āp samā▫e hukmī hukam pacẖẖāṇā.
He Himself creates and Himself destroys. I realise the command of the Commander.

ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ਤੂ ਮਨਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਸਖਾਈ ॥
सची वडिआई गुर ते पाई तू मनि अंति सखाई ॥
Sacẖī vadi▫ā▫ī gur ṯe pā▫ī ṯū man anṯ sakẖā▫ī.
True greatness is obtained through the Guru. Thou alone, O Lord, art the soul's succourer in the end.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਾਮਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥
नानक साहिबु अवरु न दूजा नामि तेरै वडिआई ॥२॥
Nānak sāhib avar na ḏūjā nām ṯerai vadi▫ā▫ī. ||2||
There is no other besides Thee, O Lord. Through Thy Name, alone, glory is obtained.
|
ਤੂ ਸਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਸਿਰੰਦਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
तू सचा सिरजणहारु अलख सिरंदिआ जीउ ॥
Ŧū sacẖā sirjaṇhār alakẖ siranḏi▫ā jī▫o.
Thou art the True Creator and the unknowable Maker.

ਏਕੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਵਾਦ ਵਧੰਦਿਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
एकु साहिबु दुइ राह वाद वधंदिआ जीउ ॥
Ėk sāhib ḏu▫e rāh vāḏ vaḏẖanḏi▫ā jī▫o.
There is but One Lord. Spiritualism and materialism are the two ways be which the strifes multiply.

ਦੁਇ ਰਾਹ ਚਲਾਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਬਾਏ ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਆ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
दुइ राह चलाए हुकमि सबाए जनमि मुआ संसारा ॥
Ḏu▫e rāh cẖalā▫e hukam sabā▫e janam mu▫ā sansārā.
By His will, the Lord makes all walk in these two ways. The world is subject to birth and death.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋ ਬੇਲੀ ਬਿਖੁ ਲਾਦੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
नाम बिना नाही को बेली बिखु लादी सिरि भारा ॥
Nām binā nāhī ko belī bikẖ lāḏī sir bẖārā.
Without the Name, the mortal has no friend. In vain he carries the load of sins on his head.
|
ਹੁਕਮੀ ਆਇਆ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
हुकमी आइआ हुकमु न बूझै हुकमि सवारणहारा ॥
Hukmī ā▫i▫ā hukam na būjẖai hukam savāraṇhārā.
In the Lord's will comes the man but His will he understands not. His will alone is the man's embellish.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਿਞਾਪੈ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
नानक साहिबु सबदि सिञापै साचा सिरजणहारा ॥३॥
Nānak sāhib sabaḏ siñāpai sācẖā sirjaṇhārā. ||3||
Nanak, through the Name, the True Creator Lord is recognised.
|
ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਹਿ ਦਰਵਾਰਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
भगत सोहहि दरवारि सबदि सुहाइआ जीउ ॥
Bẖagaṯ sohėh ḏarvār sabaḏ suhā▫i▫ā jī▫o.
Embellished with Thy Name, O Lord, Thine saints look beauteous in Thy court.

ਬੋਲਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣਿ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇਆ ਜੀਉ ॥
बोलहि अम्रित बाणि रसन रसाइआ जीउ ॥
Bolėh amriṯ bāṇ rasan rasā▫i▫ā jī▫o.
They recite the ambrosial Gurbani and their tongue they sweeten therewith.

ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਏ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਿਸਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਕਾਣੇ ॥
रसन रसाए नामि तिसाए गुर कै सबदि विकाणे ॥
Rasan rasā▫e nām ṯisā▫e gur kai sabaḏ vikāṇe.
Sweet if their tongue they thirst for the Name and are a sacrifice unto the Guru's word.
|
ਪਾਰਸਿ ਪਰਸਿਐ ਪਾਰਸੁ ਹੋਏ ਜਾ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
पारसि परसिऐ पारसु होए जा तेरै मनि भाणे ॥
Pāras parsi▫ai pāras ho▫e jā ṯerai man bẖāṇe.
When they become pleasing to Thy mind, O Lord, they themselves become. Philosopher's stone by Coming in contact with the philosopher's stone.

ਅਮਰਾ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਗਿਆਨ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
अमरा पदु पाइआ आपु गवाइआ विरला गिआन वीचारी ॥
Amrā paḏ pā▫i▫ā āp gavā▫i▫ā virlā gi▫ān vīcẖārī.
They will their ego, and attain to the immortal status but rare is the person, who reflects on this Divine knowledge.

ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਕੇ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
नानक भगत सोहनि दरि साचै साचे के वापारी ॥४॥
Nānak bẖagaṯ sohan ḏar sācẖai sācẖe ke vāpārī. ||4||
Nanak, the saints, who are the dealers of the True Name, look beauteous at the True Gate.

ਭੂਖ ਪਿਆਸੋ ਆਥਿ ਕਿਉ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇਸਾ ਜੀਉ ॥
भूख पिआसो आथि किउ दरि जाइसा जीउ ॥
Bẖūkẖ pi▫āso āth ki▫o ḏar jā▫isā jī▫o.
I hunger and thirst for worldly valuables. How can I then go to the Lord's court?
