ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਜਨ ਭਏ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੪॥੩॥
कहु कबीर जन भए खालसे प्रेम भगति जिह जानी ॥४॥३॥
Kaho Kabīr jan bẖa▫e kẖālse parem bẖagaṯ jih jānī. ||4||3||
Says Kabeer, those humble people become pure - they become Khalsa - who know the Lord's loving devotional worship. ||4||3||

|
ਦੁਇ ਦੁਇ ਲੋਚਨ ਪੇਖਾ ॥
दुइ दुइ लोचन पेखा ॥
Ḏu▫e ḏu▫e locẖan pekẖā.
With both of my eyes, I look around;
|
ਹਉ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਉਰੁ ਨ ਦੇਖਾ ॥
हउ हरि बिनु अउरु न देखा ॥
Ha▫o har bin a▫or na ḏekẖā.
I don't see anything except the Lord.
|
ਨੈਨ ਰਹੇ ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਈ ॥
नैन रहे रंगु लाई ॥
Nain rahe rang lā▫ī.
My eyes gaze lovingly upon Him,
|
ਅਬ ਬੇ ਗਲ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
अब बे गल कहनु न जाई ॥१॥
Ab be gal kahan na jā▫ī. ||1||
and now, I cannot speak of anything else. ||1||
|
ਹਮਰਾ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਇਆ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
हमरा भरमु गइआ भउ भागा ॥
Hamrā bẖaram ga▫i▫ā bẖa▫o bẖāgā.
My doubts were removed, and my fear ran away,
|
ਜਬ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जब राम नाम चितु लागा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jab rām nām cẖiṯ lāgā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
when my consciousness became attached to the Lord's Name. ||1||Pause||
|
ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ਡੰਕ ਬਜਾਈ ॥
बाजीगर डंक बजाई ॥
Bājīgar dank bajā▫ī.
When the magician beats his tambourine,
|
ਸਭ ਖਲਕ ਤਮਾਸੇ ਆਈ ॥
सभ खलक तमासे आई ॥
Sabẖ kẖalak ṯamāse ā▫ī.
everyone comes to see the show.
|
ਬਾਜੀਗਰ ਸ੍ਵਾਂਗੁ ਸਕੇਲਾ ॥
बाजीगर स्वांगु सकेला ॥
Bājīgar savāʼng sakelā.
When the magician winds up his show,
|
ਅਪਨੇ ਰੰਗ ਰਵੈ ਅਕੇਲਾ ॥੨॥
अपने रंग रवै अकेला ॥२॥
Apne rang ravai akelā. ||2||
then he enjoys its play all alone. ||2||
|
ਕਥਨੀ ਕਹਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
कथनी कहि भरमु न जाई ॥
Kathnī kahi bẖaram na jā▫ī.
By preaching sermons, one's doubt is not dispelled.
|
ਸਭ ਕਥਿ ਕਥਿ ਰਹੀ ਲੁਕਾਈ ॥
सभ कथि कथि रही लुकाई ॥
Sabẖ kath kath rahī lukā▫ī.
Everyone is tired of preaching and teaching.
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
जा कउ गुरमुखि आपि बुझाई ॥
Jā ka▫o gurmukẖ āp bujẖā▫ī.
The Lord causes the Gurmukh to understand;
|
ਤਾ ਕੇ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੩॥
ता के हिरदै रहिआ समाई ॥३॥
Ŧā ke hirḏai rahi▫ā samā▫ī. ||3||
his heart remains permeated with the Lord. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰ ਕਿੰਚਤ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕੀਨੀ ॥
गुर किंचत किरपा कीनी ॥
Gur kicẖanṯ kirpā kīnī.
When the Guru grants even a bit of His Grace,
|
ਸਭੁ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਦੇਹ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
सभु तनु मनु देह हरि लीनी ॥
Sabẖ ṯan man ḏeh har līnī.
one's body, mind and entire being are absorbed into the Lord.
|
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
कहि कबीर रंगि राता ॥
Kahi Kabīr rang rāṯā.
Says Kabeer, I am imbued with the Lord's Love;
|
ਮਿਲਿਓ ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੪॥
मिलिओ जगजीवन दाता ॥४॥४॥
Mili▫o jagjīvan ḏāṯā. ||4||4||
I have met with the Life of the world, the Great Giver. ||4||4||
|
ਜਾ ਕੇ ਨਿਗਮ ਦੂਧ ਕੇ ਠਾਟਾ ॥
जा के निगम दूध के ठाटा ॥
Jā ke nigam ḏūḏẖ ke ṯẖātā.
Let the sacred scriptures be your milk and cream,
|
ਸਮੁੰਦੁ ਬਿਲੋਵਨ ਕਉ ਮਾਟਾ ॥
समुंदु बिलोवन कउ माटा ॥
Samunḏ bilovan ka▫o mātā.
and the ocean of the mind the churning vat.
|
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਹੋਹੁ ਬਿਲੋਵਨਹਾਰੀ ॥
ता की होहु बिलोवनहारी ॥
Ŧā kī hohu bilovanhārī.
Be the butter-churner of the Lord,
|
ਕਿਉ ਮੇਟੈ ਗੋ ਛਾਛਿ ਤੁਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
किउ मेटै गो छाछि तुहारी ॥१॥
Ki▫o metai go cẖẖācẖẖ ṯuhārī. ||1||
and your buttermilk shall not be wasted. ||1||
|
ਚੇਰੀ ਤੂ ਰਾਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਸਿ ਭਤਾਰਾ ॥
चेरी तू रामु न करसि भतारा ॥
Cẖerī ṯū rām na karas bẖaṯārā.
O soul-bride slave, why don't you take the Lord as your Husband?
|
ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जगजीवन प्रान अधारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jagjīvan parān aḏẖārā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
He is the Life of the world, the Support of the breath of life. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੇਰੇ ਗਲਹਿ ਤਉਕੁ ਪਗ ਬੇਰੀ ॥
तेरे गलहि तउकु पग बेरी ॥
Ŧere galėh ṯa▫uk pag berī.
The chain is around your neck, and the cuffs are on your feet.
|
ਤੂ ਘਰ ਘਰ ਰਮਈਐ ਫੇਰੀ ॥
तू घर घर रमईऐ फेरी ॥
Ŧū gẖar gẖar rama▫ī▫ai ferī.
The Lord has sent you wandering around from house to house.
|
ਤੂ ਅਜਹੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਚੇਰੀ ॥
तू अजहु न चेतसि चेरी ॥
Ŧū ajahu na cẖeṯas cẖerī.
And still, you do not meditate on the Lord, O soul-bride, slave.
|
ਤੂ ਜਮਿ ਬਪੁਰੀ ਹੈ ਹੇਰੀ ॥੨॥
तू जमि बपुरी है हेरी ॥२॥
Ŧū jam bapurī hai herī. ||2||
Death is watching you, O wretched woman. ||2||
|
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨਹਾਰੀ ॥
प्रभ करन करावनहारी ॥
Parabẖ karan karāvanhārī.
The Lord God is the Cause of causes.
|
ਕਿਆ ਚੇਰੀ ਹਾਥ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
किआ चेरी हाथ बिचारी ॥
Ki▫ā cẖerī hāth bicẖārī.
What is in the hands of the poor soul-bride, the slave?
|
ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਗੀ ॥
सोई सोई जागी ॥
So▫ī so▫ī jāgī.
She awakens from her slumber,
|
ਜਿਤੁ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੩॥
जितु लाई तितु लागी ॥३॥
Jiṯ lā▫ī ṯiṯ lāgī. ||3||
and she becomes attached to whatever the Lord attaches her. ||3||
|
ਚੇਰੀ ਤੈ ਸੁਮਤਿ ਕਹਾਂ ਤੇ ਪਾਈ ॥
चेरी तै सुमति कहां ते पाई ॥
Cẖerī ṯai sumaṯ kahāʼn ṯe pā▫ī.
O soul-bride, slave, where did you obtain that wisdom,
|
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕੀ ਲੀਕ ਮਿਟਾਈ ॥
जा ते भ्रम की लीक मिटाई ॥
Jā ṯe bẖaram kī līk mitā▫ī.
by which you erased your inscription of doubt?
|
ਸੁ ਰਸੁ ਕਬੀਰੈ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
सु रसु कबीरै जानिआ ॥
So ras kabīrai jāni▫ā.
Kabeer has tasted that subtle essence;
|
ਮੇਰੋ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੫॥
मेरो गुर प्रसादि मनु मानिआ ॥४॥५॥
Mero gur parsāḏ man māni▫ā. ||4||5||
by Guru's Grace, his mind is reconciled with the Lord. ||4||5||
|
ਜਿਹ ਬਾਝੁ ਨ ਜੀਆ ਜਾਈ ॥
जिह बाझु न जीआ जाई ॥
Jih bājẖ na jī▫ā jā▫ī.
Without Him, we cannot even live;
|
ਜਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਘਾਲ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
जउ मिलै त घाल अघाई ॥
Ja▫o milai ṯa gẖāl agẖā▫ī.
when we meet Him, then our task is completed.
|
ਸਦ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਭਲੋ ਕਹਾਂਹੀ ॥
सद जीवनु भलो कहांही ॥
Saḏ jīvan bẖalo kahāʼnhī.
People say it is good to live forever,
|
ਮੂਏ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧॥
मूए बिनु जीवनु नाही ॥१॥
Mū▫e bin jīvan nāhī. ||1||
but without dying, there is no life. ||1||
|
ਅਬ ਕਿਆ ਕਥੀਐ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
अब किआ कथीऐ गिआनु बीचारा ॥
Ab ki▫ā kathī▫ai gi▫ān bīcẖārā.
So now, what sort wisdom should I contemplate and preach?
|
ਨਿਜ ਨਿਰਖਤ ਗਤ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
निज निरखत गत बिउहारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Nij nirkẖaṯ gaṯ bi▫uhārā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
As I watch, worldly things dissipate. ||1||Pause||
|
ਘਸਿ ਕੁੰਕਮ ਚੰਦਨੁ ਗਾਰਿਆ ॥
घसि कुंकम चंदनु गारिआ ॥
Gẖas kuʼnkam cẖanḏan gāri▫ā.
Saffron is ground up, and mixed with sandalwood;
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨੈਨਹੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
बिनु नैनहु जगतु निहारिआ ॥
Bin nainhu jagaṯ nihāri▫ā.
without eyes, the world is seen.
|
ਪੂਤਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਇਆ ॥
पूति पिता इकु जाइआ ॥
Pūṯ piṯā ik jā▫i▫ā.
The son has given birth to his father;
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਠਾਹਰ ਨਗਰੁ ਬਸਾਇਆ ॥੨॥
बिनु ठाहर नगरु बसाइआ ॥२॥
Bin ṯẖāhar nagar basā▫i▫ā. ||2||
without a place, the city has been established. ||2||
|
ਜਾਚਕ ਜਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
जाचक जन दाता पाइआ ॥
Jācẖak jan ḏāṯā pā▫i▫ā.
The humble beggar has found the Great Giver,
|
ਸੋ ਦੀਆ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
सो दीआ न जाई खाइआ ॥
So ḏī▫ā na jā▫ī kẖā▫i▫ā.
but he is unable to eat what he has been given.
|
ਛੋਡਿਆ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਮੂਕਾ ॥
छोडिआ जाइ न मूका ॥
Cẖẖodi▫ā jā▫e na mūkā.
He cannot leave it alone, but it is never exhausted.
|
ਅਉਰਨ ਪਹਿ ਜਾਨਾ ਚੂਕਾ ॥੩॥
अउरन पहि जाना चूका ॥३॥
A▫uran pėh jānā cẖūkā. ||3||
He shall not go to beg from others any longer. ||3||
|
ਜੋ ਜੀਵਨ ਮਰਨਾ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
जो जीवन मरना जानै ॥
Jo jīvan marnā jānai.
Who know how to die while yet alive,
|
ਸੋ ਪੰਚ ਸੈਲ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
सो पंच सैल सुख मानै ॥
So pancẖ sail sukẖ mānai.
those select few, enjoy great peace.
|
ਕਬੀਰੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
कबीरै सो धनु पाइआ ॥
Kabīrai so ḏẖan pā▫i▫ā.
Kabeer has found that wealth;
|
ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟਤ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥
हरि भेटत आपु मिटाइआ ॥४॥६॥
Har bẖetaṯ āp mitā▫i▫ā. ||4||6||
meeting with the Lord, he has erased his self-conceit. ||4||6||
|
ਕਿਆ ਪੜੀਐ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਨੀਐ ॥
किआ पड़ीऐ किआ गुनीऐ ॥
Ki▫ā paṛī▫ai ki▫ā gunī▫ai.
What use is it to read, and what use is it to study?
|
ਕਿਆ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨਾਂ ਸੁਨੀਐ ॥
किआ बेद पुरानां सुनीऐ ॥
Ki▫ā beḏ purānāʼn sunī▫ai.
What use is it to listen to the Vedas and the Puraanas?
|
ਪੜੇ ਸੁਨੇ ਕਿਆ ਹੋਈ ॥
पड़े सुने किआ होई ॥
Paṛe sune ki▫ā ho▫ī.
What use is reading and listening,
|
ਜਉ ਸਹਜ ਨ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਸੋਈ ॥੧॥
जउ सहज न मिलिओ सोई ॥१॥
Ja▫o sahj na mili▫o so▫ī. ||1||
if celestial peace is not attained? ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਸਿ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
हरि का नामु न जपसि गवारा ॥
Har kā nām na japas gavārā.
The fool does not chant the Name of the Lord.
|
ਕਿਆ ਸੋਚਹਿ ਬਾਰੰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
किआ सोचहि बारं बारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ki▫ā socẖėh bāraʼn bārā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
So what does he think of, over and over again? ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਧਿਆਰੇ ਦੀਪਕੁ ਚਹੀਐ ॥
अंधिआरे दीपकु चहीऐ ॥
Anḏẖi▫āre ḏīpak cẖahī▫ai.
In the darkness, we need a lamp
