Salok mėhlā 3.
Shalok, Third Mehl:
|
ਪਰਥਾਇ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਹਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਬੋਲਦੇ ਸਾਝੀ ਸਗਲ ਜਹਾਨੈ ॥
परथाइ साखी महा पुरख बोलदे साझी सगल जहानै ॥
Parthā▫e sākẖī mahā purakẖ bolḏe sājẖī sagal jahānai.
Great men speak the teachings by relating them to individual situations, but the whole world shares in them.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਇ ਸੁ ਭਉ ਕਰੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਪੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
गुरमुखि होइ सु भउ करे आपणा आपु पछाणै ॥
Gurmukẖ ho▫e so bẖa▫o kare āpṇā āp pacẖẖāṇai.
One who becomes Gurmukh knows the Fear of God, and realizes his own self.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜੀਵਤੁ ਮਰੈ ਤਾ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
गुर परसादी जीवतु मरै ता मन ही ते मनु मानै ॥
Gur parsādī jīvaṯ marai ṯā man hī ṯe man mānai.
If, by Guru's Grace, one remains dead while yet alive, the mind becomes content in itself.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਨ ਕੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਕਿਆ ਕਥਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੈ ॥੧॥
जिन कउ मन की परतीति नाही नानक से किआ कथहि गिआनै ॥१॥
Jin ka▫o man kī parṯīṯ nāhī Nānak se ki▫ā kathėh gi▫ānai. ||1||
Those who have no faith in their own minds, O Nanak - how can they speak of spiritual wisdom? ||1||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਨ ਲਾਇਓ ਅੰਤਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਹੁਤਾ ਆਇ ॥
गुरमुखि चितु न लाइओ अंति दुखु पहुता आइ ॥
Gurmukẖ cẖiṯ na lā▫i▫o anṯ ḏukẖ pahuṯā ā▫e.
Those who do not focus their consciousness on the Lord, as Gurmukh, suffer pain and grief in the end.

ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਬਾਹਰਹੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਂ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
अंदरहु बाहरहु अंधिआं सुधि न काई पाइ ॥
Anḏrahu bāhrahu anḏẖi▫āʼn suḏẖ na kā▫ī pā▫e.
They are blind, inwardly and outwardly, and they do not understand anything.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਬਰਕਤੀ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਖਾਇ ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇ ॥
पंडित तिन की बरकती सभु जगतु खाइ जो रते हरि नाइ ॥
Pandiṯ ṯin kī barkaṯī sabẖ jagaṯ kẖā▫e jo raṯe har nā▫e.
O Pandit, O religious scholar, the whole world is fed for the sake of those who are attuned to the Lord's Name.

ਜਿਨ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
जिन गुर कै सबदि सलाहिआ हरि सिउ रहे समाइ ॥
Jin gur kai sabaḏ sahāli▫ā har si▫o rahe samā▫e.
Those who praise the Word of the Guru's Shabad, remain blended with the Lord.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਾ ਧਨੁ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥
पंडित दूजै भाइ बरकति न होवई ना धनु पलै पाइ ॥
Pandiṯ ḏūjai bẖā▫e barkaṯ na hova▫ī nā ḏẖan palai pā▫e.
O Pandit, O religious scholar, no one is satisfied, and no one finds true wealth through the love of duality.

ਪੜਿ ਥਕੇ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਆਇਓ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
पड़ि थके संतोखु न आइओ अनदिनु जलत विहाइ ॥
Paṛ thake sanṯokẖ na ā▫i▫o an▫ḏin jalaṯ vihā▫e.
They have grown weary of reading scriptures, but still, they do not find contentment, and they pass their lives burning, night and day.
|
ਕੂਕ ਪੂਕਾਰ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਨਾ ਸੰਸਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥
कूक पूकार न चुकई ना संसा विचहु जाइ ॥
Kūk pūkār na cẖuk▫ī nā sansā vicẖahu jā▫e.
Their cries and complaints never end, and doubt does not depart from within them.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ਮੁਹਿ ਕਾਲੈ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक नाम विहूणिआ मुहि कालै उठि जाइ ॥२॥
Nānak nām vihūṇi▫ā muhi kālai uṯẖ jā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they rise up and depart with blackened faces. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣ ਮੇਲਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਪੰਥੁ ਦਸਾਈ ॥
हरि सजण मेलि पिआरे मिलि पंथु दसाई ॥
Har sajaṇ mel pi▫āre mil panth ḏasā▫ī.
O Beloved, lead me to meet my True Friend; meeting with Him, I shall ask Him to show me the Path.
|
ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਦਸੇ ਮਿਤੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
जो हरि दसे मितु तिसु हउ बलि जाई ॥
Jo har ḏase miṯ ṯis ha▫o bal jā▫ī.
I am a sacrifice to that Friend, who shows it to me.
|
ਗੁਣ ਸਾਝੀ ਤਿਨ ਸਿਉ ਕਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
गुण साझी तिन सिउ करी हरि नामु धिआई ॥
Guṇ sājẖī ṯin si▫o karī har nām ḏẖi▫ā▫ī.
I share His Virtues with Him, and meditate on the Lord's Name.

ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵੀ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਨਿਤ ਸੇਵਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
हरि सेवी पिआरा नित सेवि हरि सुखु पाई ॥
Har sevī pi▫ārā niṯ sev har sukẖ pā▫ī.
I serve my Beloved Lord forever; serving the Lord, I have found peace.

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੨॥
बलिहारी सतिगुर तिसु जिनि सोझी पाई ॥१२॥
Balihārī saṯgur ṯis jin sojẖī pā▫ī. ||12||
I am a sacrifice to the True Guru, who has imparted this understanding to me. ||12||

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਜੇ ਵੇਦ ਪੜੈ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
पंडित मैलु न चुकई जे वेद पड़ै जुग चारि ॥
Pandiṯ mail na cẖuk▫ī je veḏ paṛai jug cẖār.
O Pandit, O religious scholar, your filth shall not be erased, even if you read the Vedas for four ages.

ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਲੁ ਹੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ॥
त्रै गुण माइआ मूलु है विचि हउमै नामु विसारि ॥
Ŧarai guṇ mā▫i▫ā mūl hai vicẖ ha▫umai nām visār.
The three qualities are the roots of Maya; in egotism, one forgets the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪੰਡਿਤ ਭੂਲੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੇ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ਵਾਪਾਰਿ ॥
पंडित भूले दूजै लागे माइआ कै वापारि ॥
Pandiṯ bẖūle ḏūjai lāge mā▫i▫ā kai vāpār.
The Pandits are deluded, attached to duality, and they deal only in Maya.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਹੈ ਮੂਰਖ ਭੁਖਿਆ ਮੁਏ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
अंतरि त्रिसना भुख है मूरख भुखिआ मुए गवार ॥
Anṯar ṯarisnā bẖukẖ hai mūrakẖ bẖukẖi▫ā mu▫e gavār.
They are filled with thirst and hunger; the ignorant fools starve to death.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
सतिगुरि सेविऐ सुखु पाइआ सचै सबदि वीचारि ॥
Saṯgur sevi▫ai sukẖ pā▫i▫ā sacẖai sabaḏ vīcẖār.
Serving the True Guru, peace is obtained, contemplating the True Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਦਰਹੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਗਈ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
अंदरहु त्रिसना भुख गई सचै नाइ पिआरि ॥
Anḏrahu ṯarisnā bẖukẖ ga▫ī sacẖai nā▫e pi▫ār.
Hunger and thirst have departed from within me; I am in love with the True Name.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਹਜੇ ਰਜੇ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਖਿਆ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
नानक नामि रते सहजे रजे जिना हरि रखिआ उरि धारि ॥१॥
Nānak nām raṯe sėhje raje jinā har rakẖi▫ā ur ḏẖār. ||1||
O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam, who keep the Lord clasped tightly to their hearts, are automatically satisfied. ||1||

Third Mehl:

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਲਗਾ ਬਹੁਤਾ ਆਇ ॥
मनमुख हरि नामु न सेविआ दुखु लगा बहुता आइ ॥
Manmukẖ har nām na sevi▫ā ḏukẖ lagā bahuṯā ā▫e.
The self-willed manmukh does not serve the Lord's Name, and so he suffers in horrible pain.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਹੈ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਪਾਇ ॥
अंतरि अगिआनु अंधेरु है सुधि न काई पाइ ॥
Anṯar agi▫ān anḏẖer hai suḏẖ na kā▫ī pā▫e.
He is filled with the darkness of ignorance, and he does not understand anything.
|
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਨ ਬੀਜਿਓ ਭੁਖਾ ਕਿ ਅਗੈ ਖਾਇ ॥
मनहठि सहजि न बीजिओ भुखा कि अगै खाइ ॥
Manhaṯẖ sahj na bīji▫o bẖukẖā kė agai kẖā▫e.
Because of his stubborn mind, he does not plant the seeds of intuitive peace; what will he eat in the world hereafter, to satisfy his hunger?
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਆ ਦੂਜੈ ਲਗਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
नामु निधानु विसारिआ दूजै लगा जाइ ॥
Nām niḏẖān visāri▫ā ḏūjai lagā jā▫e.
He has forgotten the treasure of the Naam; he is caught in the love of duality.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ਜੇ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि मिलहि वडिआईआ जे आपे मेलि मिलाइ ॥२॥
Nānak gurmukẖ milėh vaḏi▫ā▫ī▫ā je āpe mel milā▫e. ||2||
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are honored with glory, when the Lord Himself unites them in His Union. ||2||

Pauree:

ਹਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਖਰੀ ਸੁਹਾਵਣੀ ॥
हरि रसना हरि जसु गावै खरी सुहावणी ॥
Har rasnā har jas gāvai kẖarī suhāvaṇī.
The tongue which sings the Lord's Praises, is so very beautiful.
|
ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੈ ਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵਣੀ ॥
जो मनि तनि मुखि हरि बोलै सा हरि भावणी ॥
Jo man ṯan mukẖ har bolai sā har bẖāvṇī.
One who speaks the Lord's Name, with mind, body and mouth, is pleasing to the Lord.

ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਚਖੈ ਸਾਦੁ ਸਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵਣੀ ॥
जो गुरमुखि चखै सादु सा त्रिपतावणी ॥
Jo gurmukẖ cẖakẖai sāḏ sā ṯaripṯāvṇī.
That Gurmukh tastes the sublime taste of the Lord, and is satisfied.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ਗੁਣੀ ਸਮਝਾਵਣੀ ॥
गुण गावै पिआरे नित गुण गाइ गुणी समझावणी ॥
Guṇ gāvai pi▫āre niṯ guṇ gā▫e guṇī samjẖāvaṇī.
She sings continually the Glorious Praises of her Beloved; singing His Glorious Praises, she is uplifted.

ਜਿਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਗੁਰੂ ਬੁਲਾਵਣੀ ॥੧੩॥
जिसु होवै आपि दइआलु सा सतिगुरू गुरू बुलावणी ॥१३॥
Jis hovai āp ḏa▫i▫āl sā saṯgurū gurū bulāvaṇī. ||13||
She is blessed with the Lord's Mercy, and she chants the Words of the Guru, the True Guru. ||13||

ਹਸਤੀ ਸਿਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਹੈ ਅਹਰਣਿ ਜਿਉ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੇਇ ॥
हसती सिरि जिउ अंकसु है अहरणि जिउ सिरु देइ ॥
Hasṯī sir ji▫o ankas hai ahraṇ ji▫o sir ḏe▫e.
The elephant offers its head to the reins, and the anvil offers itself to the hammer;
|
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਆਗੈ ਰਾਖਿ ਕੈ ਊਭੀ ਸੇਵ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
मनु तनु आगै राखि कै ऊभी सेव करेइ ॥
Man ṯan āgai rākẖ kai ūbẖī sev kare▫i.
just so, we offer our minds and bodies to our Guru; we stand before Him, and serve Him.
