ਸਾਚਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਘਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਿ
साचि सहजि सोभा घणी हरि गुण नाम अधारि ॥
Sācẖ sahj sobẖā gẖaṇī har guṇ nām aḏẖār.
Through truth and intuitive poise, great honor is obtained, with the Support of the Naam and the Glory of the Lord.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਖੁ ਤੂੰ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਭਤਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
जिउ भावै तिउ रखु तूं मै तुझ बिनु कवनु भतारु ॥३॥
Ji▫o bẖāvai ṯi▫o rakẖ ṯūʼn mai ṯujẖ bin kavan bẖaṯār. ||3||
As it pleases You, Lord, please save and protect me. Without You, O my Husband Lord, who else is there for me? ||3||

ਅਖਰ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਭੁਲੀਐ ਭੇਖੀ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ
अखर पड़ि पड़ि भुलीऐ भेखी बहुतु अभिमानु ॥
Akẖar paṛ paṛ bẖulī▫ai bẖekẖī bahuṯ abẖimān.
Reading their books over and over again, people continue making mistakes; they are so proud of their religious robes.

ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਕਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਗੁਮਾਨੁ
तीरथ नाता किआ करे मन महि मैलु गुमानु ॥
Ŧirath nāṯā ki▫ā kare man mėh mail gumān.
But what is the use of bathing at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, when the filth of stubborn pride is within the mind?

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਨਿ ਸਮਝਾਈਐ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥੪॥
गुर बिनु किनि समझाईऐ मनु राजा सुलतानु ॥४॥
Gur bin kin samjā▫ī▫ai man rājā sulṯān. ||4||
Other than the Guru, who can explain that within the mind is the Lord, the King, the Emperor? ||4||

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਤੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ
प्रेम पदारथु पाईऐ गुरमुखि ततु वीचारु ॥
Parem paḏārath pā▫ī▫ai gurmukẖ ṯaṯ vīcẖār.
The Treasure of the Lord's Love is obtained by the Gurmukh, who contemplates the essence of reality.

ਸਾ ਧਨ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ
सा धन आपु गवाइआ गुर कै सबदि सीगारु ॥
Sā ḏẖan āp gavā▫i▫ā gur kai sabaḏ sīgār.
The bride eradicates her selfishness, and adorns herself with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਘਰ ਹੀ ਸੋ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
घर ही सो पिरु पाइआ गुर कै हेति अपारु ॥५॥
Gẖar hī so pir pā▫i▫ā gur kai heṯ apār. ||5||
Within her own home, she finds her Husband, through infinite love for the Guru. ||5||

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ
गुर की सेवा चाकरी मनु निरमलु सुखु होइ ॥
Gur kī sevā cẖākrī man nirmal sukẖ ho▫e.
Applying oneself to the service of the Guru, the mind is purified, and peace is obtained.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਖੋਇ
गुर का सबदु मनि वसिआ हउमै विचहु खोइ ॥
Gur kā sabaḏ man vasi▫ā ha▫umai vicẖahu kẖo▫e.
The Word of the Guru's Shabad abides within the mind, and egotism is eliminated from within.

ਨਾਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਲਾਭੁ ਸਦਾ ਮਨਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੬॥
नामु पदारथु पाइआ लाभु सदा मनि होइ ॥६॥
Nām paḏārath pā▫i▫ā lābẖ saḏā man ho▫e. ||6||
The Treasure of the Naam is acquired, and the mind reaps the lasting profit. ||6||

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਪਾਈਐ ਆਪਿ ਲਇਆ ਜਾਇ
करमि मिलै ता पाईऐ आपि न लइआ जाइ ॥
Karam milai ṯā pā▫ī▫ai āp na la▫i▫ā jā▫e.
If He grants His Grace, then we obtain it. We cannot find it by our own efforts.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗਿ ਰਹੁ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ
गुर की चरणी लगि रहु विचहु आपु गवाइ ॥
Gur kī cẖarṇī lag rahu vicẖahu āp gavā▫e.
Remain attached to the Feet of the Guru, and eradicate selfishness from within.

ਸਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਸਚੋ ਪਲੈ ਪਾਇ ॥੭॥
सचे सेती रतिआ सचो पलै पाइ ॥७॥
Sacẖe seṯī raṯi▫ā sacẖo palai pā▫e. ||7||
Attuned to Truth, you shall obtain the True One. ||7||

ਭੁਲਣ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ
भुलण अंदरि सभु को अभुलु गुरू करतारु ॥
Bẖulaṇ anḏar sabẖ ko abẖul gurū karṯār.
Everyone makes mistakes; only the Guru and the Creator are infallible.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਲਾਗਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ
गुरमति मनु समझाइआ लागा तिसै पिआरु ॥
Gurmaṯ man samjẖā▫i▫ā lāgā ṯisai pi▫ār.
One who instructs his mind with the Guru's Teachings comes to embrace love for the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਚੁ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧੨॥
नानक साचु न वीसरै मेले सबदु अपारु ॥८॥१२॥
Nānak sācẖ na vīsrai mele sabaḏ apār. ||8||12||
O Nanak, do not forget the Truth; you shall receive the Infinite Word of the Shabad. ||8||12||

ਸਿਰੀਰਾਗੁ ਮਹਲਾ

Sirīrāg mėhlā 1.
Siree Raag, First Mehl:

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਣੀ ਸੁਤ ਬੰਧਪ ਘਰ ਨਾਰਿ
त्रिसना माइआ मोहणी सुत बंधप घर नारि ॥
Ŧarisnā mā▫i▫ā mohṇī suṯ banḏẖap gẖar nār.
The enticing desire for Maya leads people to become emotionally attached to their children, relatives, households and spouses.

ਧਨਿ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਜਗੁ ਠਗਿਆ ਲਬਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਿ
धनि जोबनि जगु ठगिआ लबि लोभि अहंकारि ॥
Ḏẖan joban jag ṯẖagi▫ā lab lobẖ ahaʼnkār.
The world is deceived and plundered by riches, youth, greed and egotism.

ਮੋਹ ਠਗਉਲੀ ਹਉ ਮੁਈ ਸਾ ਵਰਤੈ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥੧॥
मोह ठगउली हउ मुई सा वरतै संसारि ॥१॥
Moh ṯẖag▫ulī ha▫o mu▫ī sā varṯai sansār. ||1||
The drug of emotional attachment has destroyed me, as it has destroyed the whole world. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਕੋਇ
मेरे प्रीतमा मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न कोइ ॥
Mere parīṯamā mai ṯujẖ bin avar na ko▫e.
O my Beloved, I have no one except You.

ਮੈ ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਭਾਵਈ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ
मै तुझ बिनु अवरु न भावई तूं भावहि सुखु होइ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mai ṯujẖ bin avar na bẖāv▫ī ṯūʼn bẖāvėh sukẖ ho▫e. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Without You, nothing else pleases me. Loving You, I am at peace. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਰੰਗ ਸਿਉ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ
नामु सालाही रंग सिउ गुर कै सबदि संतोखु ॥
Nām sālāhī rang si▫o gur kai sabaḏ sanṯokẖ.
I sing the Praises of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, with love; I am content with the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਚਲਸੀ ਕੂੜਾ ਮੋਹੁ ਵੇਖੁ
जो दीसै सो चलसी कूड़ा मोहु न वेखु ॥
Jo ḏīsai so cẖalsī kūṛā moh na vekẖ.
Whatever is seen shall pass away. So do not be attached to this false show.

ਵਾਟ ਵਟਾਊ ਆਇਆ ਨਿਤ ਚਲਦਾ ਸਾਥੁ ਦੇਖੁ ॥੨॥
वाट वटाऊ आइआ नित चलदा साथु देखु ॥२॥
vāt vatā▫ū ā▫i▫ā niṯ cẖalḏā sāth ḏekẖ. ||2||
Like a traveler in his travels, you have come. Behold the caravan leaving each day. ||2||

ਆਖਣਿ ਆਖਹਿ ਕੇਤੜੇ ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝ ਹੋਇ
आखणि आखहि केतड़े गुर बिनु बूझ न होइ ॥
Ākẖaṇ ākẖahi keṯ▫ṛe gur bin būjẖ na ho▫e.
Many preach sermons, but without the Guru, understanding is not obtained.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਡਾਈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਚਿ ਰਪੈ ਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ
नामु वडाई जे मिलै सचि रपै पति होइ ॥
Nām vadā▫ī je milai sacẖ rapai paṯ ho▫e.
If someone receives the Glory of the Naam, he is attuned to truth and blessed with honor.

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਭਲੇ ਖੋਟਾ ਖਰਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੩॥
जो तुधु भावहि से भले खोटा खरा न कोइ ॥३॥
Jo ṯuḏẖ bẖāvėh se bẖale kẖotā kẖarā na ko▫e. ||3||
Those who are pleasing to You are good; no one is counterfeit or genuine. ||3||

ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਛੁਟੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ
गुर सरणाई छुटीऐ मनमुख खोटी रासि ॥
Gur sarṇā▫ī cẖẖutī▫ai manmukẖ kẖotī rās.
In the Guru's Sanctuary we are saved. The assets of the self-willed manmukhs are false.

ਅਸਟ ਧਾਤੁ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹ ਕੀ ਘੜੀਐ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਿਗਾਸਿ
असट धातु पातिसाह की घड़ीऐ सबदि विगासि ॥
Asat ḏẖāṯ pāṯisāh kī gẖaṛī▫ai sabaḏ vigās.
The eight metals of the King are made into coins by the Word of His Shabad.

ਆਪੇ ਪਰਖੇ ਪਾਰਖੂ ਪਵੈ ਖਜਾਨੈ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥
आपे परखे पारखू पवै खजानै रासि ॥४॥
Āpe parkẖe pārkẖū pavai kẖajānai rās. ||4||
The Assayer Himself assays them, and He places the genuine ones in His Treasury. ||4||

ਤੇਰੀ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਾ ਪਵੈ ਸਭ ਡਿਠੀ ਠੋਕਿ ਵਜਾਇ
तेरी कीमति ना पवै सभ डिठी ठोकि वजाइ ॥
Ŧerī kīmaṯ nā pavai sabẖ diṯẖī ṯẖok vajā▫e.
Your Value cannot be appraised; I have seen and tested everything.

ਕਹਣੈ ਹਾਥ ਲਭਈ ਸਚਿ ਟਿਕੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਇ
कहणै हाथ न लभई सचि टिकै पति पाइ ॥
Kahṇai hāth na labẖ▫ī sacẖ tikai paṯ pā▫e.
By speaking, His Depth cannot be found. Abiding in truth, honor is obtained.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਲਾਹਣਾ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹਣੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੫॥
गुरमति तूं सालाहणा होरु कीमति कहणु न जाइ ॥५॥
Gurmaṯ ṯūʼn salāhṇā hor kīmaṯ kahaṇ na jā▫e. ||5||
Through the Guru's Teachings, I praise You; otherwise, I cannot describe Your Value. ||5||

ਜਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਾਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਤਨਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਾਦੁ
जितु तनि नामु न भावई तितु तनि हउमै वादु ॥
Jiṯ ṯan nām na bẖāv▫ī ṯiṯ ṯan ha▫umai vāḏ.
That body which does not appreciate the Naam-that body is infested with egotism and conflict.

ਗੁਰ ਬਿਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਾਦੁ
गुर बिनु गिआनु न पाईऐ बिखिआ दूजा सादु ॥
Gur bin gi▫ān na pā▫ī▫ai bikẖi▫ā ḏūjā sāḏ.
Without the Guru, spiritual wisdom is not obtained; other tastes are poison.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਾਮਿ ਆਵਈ ਮਾਇਆ ਫੀਕਾ ਸਾਦੁ ॥੬॥
बिनु गुण कामि न आवई माइआ फीका सादु ॥६॥
Bin guṇ kām na āvī mā▫i▫ā fīkā sāḏ. ||6||
Without virtue, nothing is of any use. The taste of Maya is bland and insipid. ||6||

ਆਸਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਖਾਇ
आसा अंदरि जमिआ आसा रस कस खाइ ॥
Āsā anḏar jammi▫ā āsā ras kas kẖā▫e.
Through desire, people are cast into the womb and reborn. Through desire, they taste the sweet and sour flavors.

ਆਸਾ ਬੰਧਿ ਚਲਾਈਐ ਮੁਹੇ ਮੁਹਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਇ
आसा बंधि चलाईऐ मुहे मुहि चोटा खाइ ॥
Āsā banḏẖ cẖalā▫ī▫ai muhe muhi cẖotā kẖā▫e.
Bound by desire, they are led on, beaten and struck on their faces and mouths.

ਅਵਗਣਿ ਬਧਾ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਛੂਟੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਇ ॥੭॥
अवगणि बधा मारीऐ छूटै गुरमति नाइ ॥७॥
Avgaṇ baḏẖā mārī▫ai cẖẖūtai gurmaṯ nā▫e. ||7||
Bound and gagged and assaulted by evil, they are released only through the Name, through the Guru's Teachings. ||7||
