ਗਲਿ ਜੇਵੜੀ ਆਪੇ ਪਾਇਦਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਖਿੰਚੈ ਤਿਉ ਜਾਹਾ
गलि जेवड़ी आपे पाइदा पिआरा जिउ प्रभु खिंचै तिउ जाहा ॥
Gal jevṛī āpe pā▫iḏā pi▫ārā ji▫o parabẖ kẖincẖai ṯi▫o jāhā.
The Beloved Himself puts the chains around their necks; as God pulls them, must they go.

ਜੋ ਗਰਬੈ ਸੋ ਪਚਸੀ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਮਾਹਾ ॥੪॥੬॥
जो गरबै सो पचसी पिआरे जपि नानक भगति समाहा ॥४॥६॥
Jo garbai so pacẖsī pi▫āre jap Nānak bẖagaṯ samāhā. ||4||6||
Whoever harbors pride shall be destroyed, O Beloved; meditating on the Lord, Nanak is absorbed in devotional worship. ||4||6||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਃ ਦੁਤੁਕੇ
सोरठि मः ४ दुतुके ॥
Soraṯẖ mėhlā 4 ḏuṯuke.
Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl, Du-Tukas:

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ
अनिक जनम विछुड़े दुखु पाइआ मनमुखि करम करै अहंकारी ॥
Anik janam vicẖẖuṛe ḏukẖ pā▫i▫ā manmukẖ karam karai ahaʼnkārī.
Separated from the Lord for countless lifetimes, the self-willed manmukh suffers in pain, engaged in acts of egotism.

ਸਾਧੂ ਪਰਸਤ ਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਸਰਣਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
साधू परसत ही प्रभु पाइआ गोबिद सरणि तुमारी ॥१॥
Sāḏẖū parsaṯ hī parabẖ pā▫i▫ā gobiḏ saraṇ ṯumārī. ||1||
Beholding the Holy Saint, I found God; O Lord of the Universe, I seek Your Sanctuary. ||1||

ਗੋਬਿਦ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗੀ ਅਤਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ
गोबिद प्रीति लगी अति पिआरी ॥
Gobiḏ parīṯ lagī aṯ pi▫ārī.
The Love of God is very dear to me.

ਜਬ ਸਤਸੰਗ ਭਏ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਰਹਾਉ
जब सतसंग भए साधू जन हिरदै मिलिआ सांति मुरारी ॥ रहाउ ॥
Jab saṯsang bẖa▫e sāḏẖū jan hirḏai mili▫ā sāʼnṯ murārī. Rahā▫o.
When I joined the Sat Sangat, the Company of the Holy People, the Lord, the embodiment of peace, came into my heart. ||Pause||

ਤੂ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਵਸਹਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਉ ਬੁਝਹਿ ਗਵਾਰੀ
तू हिरदै गुपतु वसहि दिनु राती तेरा भाउ न बुझहि गवारी ॥
Ŧū hirḏai gupaṯ vasėh ḏin rāṯī ṯerā bẖā▫o na bujẖėh gavārī.
You dwell, hidden, within my heart day and night, Lord; but the poor fools do not understand Your Love.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
सतिगुरु पुरखु मिलिआ प्रभु प्रगटिआ गुण गावै गुण वीचारी ॥२॥
Saṯgur purakẖ mili▫ā parabẖ pargati▫ā guṇ gāvai guṇ vīcẖārī. ||2||
Meeting with the Almighty True Guru, God was revealed to me; I sing His Glorious Praises, and reflect upon His Glories. ||2||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਾਤਿ ਆਈ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ
गुरमुखि प्रगासु भइआ साति आई दुरमति बुधि निवारी ॥
Gurmukẖ pargās bẖa▫i▫ā sāṯ ā▫ī ḏurmaṯ buḏẖ nivārī.
As Gurmukh, I have become enlightened; peace has come, and evil-mindedness has been dispelled from my mind.

ਆਤਮ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਚੀਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
आतम ब्रहमु चीनि सुखु पाइआ सतसंगति पुरख तुमारी ॥३॥
Āṯam barahm cẖīn sukẖ pā▫i▫ā saṯsangaṯ purakẖ ṯumārī. ||3||
Understanding the relationship of the individual soul with God, I have found peace, in Your Sat Sangat, Your True Congregation, O Lord. ||3||

ਪੁਰਖੈ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਈ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ
पुरखै पुरखु मिलिआ गुरु पाइआ जिन कउ किरपा भई तुमारी ॥
Purkẖai purakẖ mili▫ā gur pā▫i▫ā jin ka▫o kirpā bẖa▫ī ṯumārī.
Those who are blessed by Your Kind Mercy, meet the Almighty Lord, and find the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਅਤੁਲੁ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗਤੁ ਰਹੈ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੭॥
नानक अतुलु सहज सुखु पाइआ अनदिनु जागतु रहै बनवारी ॥४॥७॥
Nānak aṯul sahj sukẖ pā▫i▫ā an▫ḏin jāgaṯ rahai banvārī. ||4||7||
Nanak has found the immeasurable, celestial peace; night and day, he remains awake to the Lord, the Master of the Forest of the Universe. ||4||7||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ
सोरठि महला ४ ॥
Soraṯẖ mėhlā 4.
Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਰਹਣੁ ਜਾਈ
हरि सिउ प्रीति अंतरु मनु बेधिआ हरि बिनु रहणु न जाई ॥
Har si▫o parīṯ anṯar man beḏẖi▫ā har bin rahaṇ na jā▫ī.
The inner depths of my mind are pierced by love for the Lord; I cannot live without the Lord.

ਜਿਉ ਮਛੁਲੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਨੀਰੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
जिउ मछुली बिनु नीरै बिनसै तिउ नामै बिनु मरि जाई ॥१॥
Ji▫o macẖẖulī bin nīrai binsai ṯi▫o nāmai bin mar jā▫ī. ||1||
Just as the fish dies without water, I die without the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਲੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਈ
मेरे प्रभ किरपा जलु देवहु हरि नाई ॥
Mere parabẖ kirpā jal ḏevhu har nā▫ī.
O my God, please bless me with the water of Your Name.

ਹਉ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਗਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਹੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਰਹਾਉ
हउ अंतरि नामु मंगा दिनु राती नामे ही सांति पाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
Ha▫o anṯar nām mangā ḏin rāṯī nāme hī sāʼnṯ pā▫ī. Rahā▫o.
I beg for Your Name, deep within myself, day and night; through the Name, I find peace. ||Pause||

ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕੁ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਪਿਆਸ ਜਾਈ
जिउ चात्रिकु जल बिनु बिललावै बिनु जल पिआस न जाई ॥
Ji▫o cẖāṯrik jal bin billāvai bin jal pi▫ās na jā▫ī.
The song-bird cries out for lack of water - without water, its thirst cannot be quenched.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੇ ਹਰਿਆ ਭਾਇ ਸੁਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
गुरमुखि जलु पावै सुख सहजे हरिआ भाइ सुभाई ॥२॥
Gurmukẖ jal pāvai sukẖ sėhje hari▫ā bẖā▫e subẖā▫ī. ||2||
The Gurmukh obtains the water of celestial bliss, and is rejuvenated, blossoming forth through the blessed Love of the Lord. ||2||

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੂਖੇ ਦਹ ਦਿਸ ਡੋਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ
मनमुख भूखे दह दिस डोलहि बिनु नावै दुखु पाई ॥
Manmukẖ bẖūkẖe ḏah ḏis dolėh bin nāvai ḏukẖ pā▫ī.
The self-willed manmukhs are hungry, wandering around in the ten directions; without the Name, they suffer in pain.

ਜਨਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਆਵੈ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
जनमि मरै फिरि जोनी आवै दरगहि मिलै सजाई ॥३॥
Janam marai fir jonī āvai ḏargahi milai sajā▫ī. ||3||
They are born, only to die, and enter into reincarnation again; in the Court of the Lord, they are punished. ||3||

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਈ
क्रिपा करहि ता हरि गुण गावह हरि रसु अंतरि पाई ॥
Kirpā karahi ṯā har guṇ gāvah har ras anṯar pā▫ī.
But if the Lord shows His Mercy, then one comes to sing His Glorious Praises; deep within the nucleus of his own self, he finds the sublime essence of the Lord's elixir.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੪॥੮॥
नानक दीन दइआल भए है त्रिसना सबदि बुझाई ॥४॥८॥
Nānak ḏīn ḏa▫i▫āl bẖa▫e hai ṯarisnā sabaḏ bujẖā▫ī. ||4||8||
The Lord has become Merciful to meek Nanak, and through the Word of the Shabad, his desires are quenched. ||4||8||

ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ਪੰਚਪਦਾ
सोरठि महला ४ पंचपदा ॥
Soraṯẖ mėhlā 4 pancẖpaḏā.
Sorat'h, Fourth Mehl, Panch-Padas:

ਅਚਰੁ ਚਰੈ ਤਾ ਸਿਧਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਿਧੀ ਤੇ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਾਈ
अचरु चरै ता सिधि होई सिधी ते बुधि पाई ॥
Acẖar cẖarai ṯā siḏẖ ho▫ī siḏẖī ṯe buḏẖ pā▫ī.
If one controls the difficult mind, then he becomes a Siddha, a being of perfect spirituality; through this perfection, he obtains wisdom.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਕੇ ਸਰ ਲਾਗੇ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਤਾ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਜਾਈ ॥੧॥
प्रेम के सर लागे तन भीतरि ता भ्रमु काटिआ जाई ॥१॥
Parem ke sar lāge ṯan bẖīṯar ṯā bẖaram kāti▫ā jā▫ī. ||1||
When the arrow of the Lord's Love pierces his body, then his doubt is eradicated. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਦੇਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ
मेरे गोबिद अपुने जन कउ देहि वडिआई ॥
Mere gobiḏ apune jan ka▫o ḏėh vadi▫ā▫ī.
O my Lord of the Universe, please bless Your humble servant with glory.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਰਹਾਉ
गुरमति राम नामु परगासहु सदा रहहु सरणाई ॥ रहाउ ॥
Gurmaṯ rām nām pargāsahu saḏā rahhu sarṇā▫ī. Rahā▫o.
Under Guru's Instructions, enlighten me with the Lord's Name, that I may dwell forever in Your Sanctuary. ||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਭੁ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਮਨ ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਤਿ ਅਜਾਣਾ
इहु संसारु सभु आवण जाणा मन मूरख चेति अजाणा ॥
Ih sansār sabẖ āvaṇ jāṇā man mūrakẖ cẖeṯ ajāṇā.
This whole world is engrossed in coming and going; O my foolish and ignorant mind, be mindful of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
हरि जीउ क्रिपा करहु गुरु मेलहु ता हरि नामि समाणा ॥२॥
Har jī▫o kirpā karahu gur melhu ṯā har nām samāṇā. ||2||
O Dear Lord, please, take pity upon me, and unite me with the Guru, that I may merge in the Lord's Name. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਵਥੁ ਸੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਜਾਣੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਦੇਇ ਸੁ ਪਾਏ
जिस की वथु सोई प्रभु जाणै जिस नो देइ सु पाए ॥
Jis kī vath so▫ī parabẖ jāṇai jis no ḏe▫e so pā▫e.
Only one who has it knows God; he alone has it, to whom God has given it-

ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਅਤਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਅਲਖੁ ਲਖਾਏ ॥੩॥
वसतु अनूप अति अगम अगोचर गुरु पूरा अलखु लखाए ॥३॥
Vasaṯ anūp aṯ agam agocẖar gur pūrā alakẖ lakẖā▫e. ||3||
the so very beautiful, unapproachable and unfathomable. Through the Perfect Guru, the unknowable is known. ||3||

ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹ ਚਾਖੀ ਸੋਈ ਜਾਣੈ ਗੂੰਗੇ ਕੀ ਮਿਠਿਆਈ
जिनि इह चाखी सोई जाणै गूंगे की मिठिआई ॥
Jin ih cẖākẖī so▫ī jāṇai gūnge kī miṯẖi▫ā▫ī.
Only one who tastes it knows it, like the mute, who tastes the sweet candy, but cannot speak of it.
