ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਬਪੁੜੋ ਇਨਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
जनम मरन कउ इहु जगु बपुड़ो इनि दूजै भगति विसारी जीउ ॥
Janam maran ka▫o ih jag bapuṛo in ḏūjai bẖagaṯ visārī jī▫o.
This wretched world is subject to birth and death and in another's love it has forgotten the Lord's meditation.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਕਤ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
सतिगुरु मिलै त गुरमति पाईऐ साकत बाजी हारी जीउ ॥३॥
Saṯgur milai ṯa gurmaṯ pā▫ī▫ai sākaṯ bājī hārī jī▫o. ||3||
When the True Guru is met, then is the Guru's wisdom obtained. The mammon-worshipper loses his life-game.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜਿ ਨਿਰਾਰੇ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਗਰਭ ਮਝਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
सतिगुर बंधन तोड़ि निरारे बहुड़ि न गरभ मझारी जीउ ॥
Saṯgur banḏẖan ṯoṛ nirāre bahuṛ na garabẖ majẖārī jī▫o.
Snapping my bonds the True Guru has freed me, so I shall not be cast into the womb, again.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗਿਆਨ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੮॥
नानक गिआन रतनु परगासिआ हरि मनि वसिआ निरंकारी जीउ ॥४॥८॥
Nānak gi▫ān raṯan pargāsi▫ā har man vasi▫ā nirankārī jī▫o. ||4||8||
Within me, O Nanak, is the light of he jewel of gnosis and the Formless Lord has taken abode within my mind.

ਜਿਸੁ ਜਲ ਨਿਧਿ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤੁਮ ਜਗਿ ਆਏ ਸੋ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
जिसु जल निधि कारणि तुम जगि आए सो अम्रितु गुर पाही जीउ ॥
Jis jal niḏẖ kāraṇ ṯum jag ā▫e so amriṯ gur pāhī jī▫o.
The treasure of the Name-Nectar for the sake of which thou hast come into the world, that Nectar is with the Guru.

ਛੋਡਹੁ ਵੇਸੁ ਭੇਖ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਇਹੁ ਫਲੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
छोडहु वेसु भेख चतुराई दुबिधा इहु फलु नाही जीउ ॥१॥
Cẖẖodahu ves bẖekẖ cẖaṯurā▫ī ḏubiḏẖā ih fal nāhī jī▫o. ||1||
Give up garbs, disguises and cleverness. In duality this fruit is obtained not.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਥਿਰੁ ਰਹੁ ਮਤੁ ਕਤ ਜਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
मन रे थिरु रहु मतु कत जाही जीउ ॥
Man re thir rahu maṯ kaṯ jāhī jī▫o.
O my soul, remain steady and wander not any where.
|
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਢੂਢਤ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਘਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਘਟ ਮਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
बाहरि ढूढत बहुतु दुखु पावहि घरि अम्रितु घट माही जीउ ॥ रहाउ ॥
Bāhar dẖūdẖaṯ bahuṯ ḏukẖ pāvahi gẖar amriṯ gẖat māhī jī▫o. Rahā▫o.
Searching without, thou shalt suffer much pain. The Nectar is in thy heart at home. Pause.

ਅਵਗੁਣ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਣਾ ਕਉ ਧਾਵਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਪਛੁਤਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
अवगुण छोडि गुणा कउ धावहु करि अवगुण पछुताही जीउ ॥
Avguṇ cẖẖod guṇā ka▫o ḏẖāvahu kar avguṇ pacẖẖuṯāhī jī▫o.
Forsake sins and pursue virtues By committing sins thou shalt regret.

ਸਰ ਅਪਸਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਕੀਚ ਬੁਡਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥
सर अपसर की सार न जाणहि फिरि फिरि कीच बुडाही जीउ ॥२॥
Sar apsar kī sār na jāṇėh fir fir kīcẖ budāhī jī▫o. ||2||
Thou knowest not the distinction between good and evil and again and again sinkest thou in the mire of sins.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਲੋਭ ਬਹੁ ਝੂਠੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਕਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
अंतरि मैलु लोभ बहु झूठे बाहरि नावहु काही जीउ ॥
Anṯar mail lobẖ baho jẖūṯẖe bāhar nāvhu kāhī jī▫o.
Within thee is great filth of greed and falsehood, so what for washest thou thy (body)?

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਸਦ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਗਤਿ ਤਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥
निरमल नामु जपहु सद गुरमुखि अंतर की गति ताही जीउ ॥३॥
Nirmal nām japahu saḏ gurmukẖ anṯar kī gaṯ ṯāhī jī▫o. ||3||
Ever utter thou the immaculate Name, under Guru's instruction and then alone shall thy innerself be emancipated.

ਪਰਹਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕੂੜੁ ਤਿਆਗਹੁ ਸਚੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥
परहरि लोभु निंदा कूड़ु तिआगहु सचु गुर बचनी फलु पाही जीउ ॥
Parhar lobẖ ninḏā kūṛ ṯi▫āgahu sacẖ gur bacẖnī fal pāhī jī▫o.
Abandon, greed and slander and forswear falsehood. By Guru's instruction, thou shalt obtain the true fruit.

ਜਿਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਉ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੯॥
जिउ भावै तिउ राखहु हरि जीउ जन नानक सबदि सलाही जीउ ॥४॥९॥
Ji▫o bẖāvai ṯi▫o rākẖo har jī▫o jan Nānak sabaḏ salāhī jī▫o. ||4||9||
As it pleasest Thee, so do Thou preserve me, O reverend God Slave Nanak sings the praise of Thy Name.

ਅਪਨਾ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਤ ਰਾਖਿ ਨ ਸਾਕਹਿ ਕੀ ਪਰ ਘਰੁ ਜੋਹਨ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
अपना घरु मूसत राखि न साकहि की पर घरु जोहन लागा ॥
Apnā gẖar mūsaṯ rākẖ na sākėh kī par gẖar johan lāgā.
Thy own home, thou cannot save from being plundered; why spies thou upon other's houses?

ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਜੇ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਹਿ ਜੋ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
घरु दरु राखहि जे रसु चाखहि जो गुरमुखि सेवकु लागा ॥१॥
Gẖar ḏar rākẖahi je ras cẖākẖahi jo gurmukẖ sevak lāgā. ||1||
The servant who quaffs the Name Nectar and who engages in the service of the Supreme Guru, he saves his hearth and home.
|
ਮਨ ਰੇ ਸਮਝੁ ਕਵਨ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
मन रे समझु कवन मति लागा ॥
Man re samajẖ kavan maṯ lāgā.
O man, thou, do, realise, in what evil thinking art thou, engaged?
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅਨ ਰਸ ਲੋਭਾਨੇ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਹਿ ਅਭਾਗਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामु विसारि अन रस लोभाने फिरि पछुताहि अभागा ॥ रहाउ ॥
Nām visār an ras lobẖāne fir pacẖẖuṯāhi abẖāgā. Rahā▫o.
Forgetting the Name, the man is engrossed in other relishes. The unfortunate one shall regret in the end. Pause.

ਆਵਤ ਕਉ ਹਰਖ ਜਾਤ ਕਉ ਰੋਵਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਨਾਲੇ ਲਾਗਾ ॥
आवत कउ हरख जात कउ रोवहि इहु दुखु सुखु नाले लागा ॥
Āvaṯ ka▫o harakẖ jāṯ ka▫o rovėh ih ḏukẖ sukẖ nāle lāgā.
He is pleased when wealth comes and weeps when it goes. This weal and woe remains attached with him.

ਆਪੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਭੋਗਿ ਭੋਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੋ ਅਨਰਾਗਾ ॥੨॥
आपे दुख सुख भोगि भोगावै गुरमुखि सो अनरागा ॥२॥
Āpe ḏukẖ sukẖ bẖog bẖogāvai gurmukẖ so anrāgā. ||2||
The Lord Himself makes man partake of pain and pleasure, But he, the Guru-ward, remains unaffected.
|
ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਊਪਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੀਆ ਸੋ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਗਾ ॥
हरि रस ऊपरि अवरु किआ कहीऐ जिनि पीआ सो त्रिपतागा ॥
Har ras ūpar avar ki▫ā kahī▫ai jin pī▫ā so ṯaripṯāgā.
What else can be said to be above the Lord's elixir? he, who quaffs it, is satiated.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਖੋਇਆ ਜਾ ਸਾਕਤ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੩॥
माइआ मोहित जिनि इहु रसु खोइआ जा साकत दुरमति लागा ॥३॥
Mā▫i▫ā mohiṯ jin ih ras kẖo▫i▫ā jā sākaṯ ḏurmaṯ lāgā. ||3||
Lured by mammon, he who loses this Nectar, that mammon-worshipper is yoked to evil intellect.
|
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਜੀਉ ਪਵਨਪਤਿ ਦੇਹੀ ਦੇਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਦੇਉ ਸਮਾਗਾ ॥
मन का जीउ पवनपति देही देही महि देउ समागा ॥
Man kā jī▫o pavanpaṯ ḏehī ḏehī mėh ḏe▫o samāgā.
The Bright Lord is contained in the body. He is the life of the mind and Master of the body's breath.

ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਗਾਈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਹਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥੪॥
जे तू देहि त हरि रसु गाई मनु त्रिपतै हरि लिव लागा ॥४॥
Je ṯū ḏėh ṯa har ras gā▫ī man ṯaripṯai har liv lāgā. ||4||
If Thou so blessest, O Lord God, then, the man lovingly sings Thy praise, and being attached with Thee in love, gets satiated.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਜਮ ਭਉ ਭਾਗਾ ॥
साधसंगति महि हरि रसु पाईऐ गुरि मिलिऐ जम भउ भागा ॥
Sāḏẖsangaṯ mėh har ras pā▫ī▫ai gur mili▫ai jam bẖa▫o bẖāgā.
In the society of saints, Lord's elixir is obtained, and meeting the Guru, the ear of death departs.

ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਏ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗਾ ॥੫॥੧੦॥
नानक राम नामु जपि गुरमुखि हरि पाए मसतकि भागा ॥५॥१०॥
Nānak rām nām jap gurmukẖ har pā▫e masṯak bẖāgā. ||5||10||
Nanak, dwell thou on the Lord's Name, through the Guru. By virtue of brow's good fortune the Lord is attained.

ਸਰਬ ਜੀਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਧੁਰਾਹੂ ਬਿਨੁ ਲੇਖੈ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥
सरब जीआ सिरि लेखु धुराहू बिनु लेखै नही कोई जीउ ॥
Sarab jī▫ā sir lekẖ ḏẖurāhū bin lekẖai nahī ko▫ī jī▫o.
Over the head of all the beings is the Lord's writ, there is none over whom this writ is not.

ਆਪਿ ਅਲੇਖੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਸੋਈ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥
आपि अलेखु कुदरति करि देखै हुकमि चलाए सोई जीउ ॥१॥
Āp alekẖ kuḏraṯ kar ḏekẖai hukam cẖalā▫e so▫ī jī▫o. ||1||
He Himself is without a writ. Creating the creation, the Lord beholds it and Himself, causes His writ to be executed.

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥
मन रे राम जपहु सुखु होई ॥
Man re rām japahu sukẖ ho▫ī.
O man, meditate thou on the Lord, that. thou may gather peace.
|
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਸਰੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अहिनिसि गुर के चरन सरेवहु हरि दाता भुगता सोई ॥ रहाउ ॥
Ahinis gur ke cẖaran sarevhu har ḏāṯā bẖugṯā so▫ī. Rahā▫o.
Day and night serve thou the feet of the Guru to know that Thee Lord Himself is the giver and the enjoyer. Pause.
