Gujri, 5th Guru. Chaupade.

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ੴ सतिगुर प्रसादि ॥
Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
There is but One God. By True Guru's grace, He is obtained.
|
ਕਾਹੇ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਉਦਮੁ ਜਾ ਆਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਪਰਿਆ ॥
काहे रे मन चितवहि उदमु जा आहरि हरि जीउ परिआ ॥
Kāhe re man cẖiṯvahi uḏam jā āhar har jī▫o pari▫ā.
Why doest thou O man think of enterprise when Reverend God is Himself engaged in thy care.

ਸੈਲ ਪਥਰ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥੧॥
सैल पथर महि जंत उपाए ता का रिजकु आगै करि धरिआ ॥१॥
Sail pathar mėh janṯ upā▫e ṯā kā rijak āgai kar ḏẖari▫ā. ||1||
In the rocks and stone, He has created the beings and their sustenance He puts before them.

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਧਉ ਜੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸਿ ਤਰਿਆ ॥
मेरे माधउ जी सतसंगति मिले सि तरिआ ॥
Mere māḏẖa▫o jī saṯsangaṯ mile sė ṯari▫ā.
O my Venerable Lord of mammon he who mixes with the society of saints is saved.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादि परम पदु पाइआ सूके कासट हरिआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur parsāḏ param paḏ pā▫i▫ā sūke kāsat hari▫ā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
By Guru's grace, he obtains the supreme status and the dry-wood blossoms forth. Pause.
|
ਜਨਨਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਰਿਆ ॥
जननि पिता लोक सुत बनिता कोइ न किस की धरिआ ॥
Janan piṯā lok suṯ baniṯā ko▫e na kis kī ḏẖari▫ā.
Of mother, father, people, son and wife, no one is the support of another.
|
ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਭਉ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੨॥
सिरि सिरि रिजकु स्मबाहे ठाकुरु काहे मन भउ करिआ ॥२॥
Sir sir rijak sambāhe ṯẖākur kāhe man bẖa▫o kari▫ā. ||2||
To every individual the Lord reaches sustenance why fearest thou O my soul.
|
ਊਡੈ ਊਡਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੈ ਕੋਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਬਚਰੇ ਛਰਿਆ ॥
ऊडै ऊडि आवै सै कोसा तिसु पाछै बचरे छरिआ ॥
Ūdai ūd āvai sai kosā ṯis pācẖẖai bacẖre cẖẖari▫ā.
The flamingoes come having flown over hundreds of miles while their young ones they leave behind.

ਉਨ ਕਵਨੁ ਖਲਾਵੈ ਕਵਨੁ ਚੁਗਾਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
उन कवनु खलावै कवनु चुगावै मन महि सिमरनु करिआ ॥३॥
Un kavan kẖalāvai kavan cẖugāvai man mėh simran kari▫ā. ||3||
Who feeds them and who enables them to peck? Hast thou ever thought of it in thy mind?

ਸਭ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਨ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਧਰਿਆ ॥
सभ निधान दस असट सिधान ठाकुर कर तल धरिआ ॥
Sabẖ niḏẖān ḏas asat sidẖān ṯẖākur kar ṯal ḏẖari▫ā.
All the treasures and the eighteen supernatural powers the Lord holds on the palm of His Hand.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੧॥
जन नानक बलि बलि सद बलि जाईऐ तेरा अंतु न पारावरिआ ॥४॥१॥
Jan Nānak bal bal saḏ bal jā▫ī▫ai ṯerā anṯ na parāvari▫ā. ||4||1||
Slave Nanak is devoted dedicates and ever a sacrifice unto Thee, O Lord and to Thine vastness there is no limit or bound.

Ik▫oaʼnkār saṯgur parsāḏ.
There is but One God. By True Guru's grace, He is obtained.
|
ਕਿਰਿਆਚਾਰ ਕਰਹਿ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਇਤੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥
किरिआचार करहि खटु करमा इतु राते संसारी ॥
Kiri▫ācẖār karahi kẖat karmā iṯ rāṯe sansārī.
The men perform four rituals and six religious rites and in these the worldly men are engrossed.

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
अंतरि मैलु न उतरै हउमै बिनु गुर बाजी हारी ॥१॥
Anṯar mail na uṯrai ha▫umai bin gur bājī hārī. ||1||
From within they are not cleansed of the filth of ego and without the Guru they lose the game.
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਰਖਿ ਲੇਵਹੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
मेरे ठाकुर रखि लेवहु किरपा धारी ॥
Mere ṯẖākur rakẖ levhu kirpā ḏẖārī.
O my Lord, preserve me Thou mercifully.
|
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕੋ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
कोटि मधे को विरला सेवकु होरि सगले बिउहारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kot maḏẖe ko virlā sevak hor sagle bi▫uhārī. ||1|| rahā▫o.
Out of millions hardly any one is a servant of God; all others are but traders. Pause.
|
ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਭਿ ਸੋਧੇ ਸਭ ਏਕਾ ਬਾਤ ਪੁਕਾਰੀ ॥
सासत बेद सिम्रिति सभि सोधे सभ एका बात पुकारी ॥
Sāsaṯ beḏ simriṯ sabẖ soḏẖe sabẖ ekā bāṯ pukārī.
The Shashtras, Vedas and Simritis, I have all searched and they all say but one thing.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਕੋਊ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਿ ਵੇਖਹੁ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
बिनु गुर मुकति न कोऊ पावै मनि वेखहु करि बीचारी ॥२॥
Bin gur mukaṯ na ko▫ū pāvai man vekẖhu kar bīcẖārī. ||2||
Without the Guru none obtains salvation. Observe and consider this in thy mind.
|
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਇਸਨਾਨਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਆਏ ਧਰ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
अठसठि मजनु करि इसनाना भ्रमि आए धर सारी ॥
Aṯẖsaṯẖ majan kar isnānā bẖaram ā▫e ḏẖar sārī.
If a man has ablution and bath at sixty-eight places of pilgrimage and wanders over the whole earth,
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਸੋਚ ਕਰਹਿ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਅੰਧਿਆਰੀ ॥੩॥
अनिक सोच करहि दिन राती बिनु सतिगुर अंधिआरी ॥३॥
Anik socẖ karahi ḏin rāṯī bin saṯgur anḏẖi▫ārī. ||3||
and even if he performs various purifications day and night yet there would be all darkness without the True Guru.
|
ਧਾਵਤ ਧਾਵਤ ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਧਾਇਓ ਅਬ ਆਏ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰੀ ॥
धावत धावत सभु जगु धाइओ अब आए हरि दुआरी ॥
Ḏẖāvaṯ ḏẖāvaṯ sabẖ jag ḏẖā▫i▫o ab ā▫e har ḏu▫ārī.
Roaming and rambling, I have traversed the whole world but now I have arrived at God's door.

ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਟਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧॥੨॥
दुरमति मेटि बुधि परगासी जन नानक गुरमुखि तारी ॥४॥१॥२॥
Ḏurmaṯ met buḏẖ pargāsī jan Nānak gurmukẖ ṯārī. ||4||1||2||
The Lord has obliterated my evil intellect and has enlightened my understanding and the Exalted Guru has saved slave Nanak.

|
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤਾਪ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
हरि धनु जाप हरि धनु ताप हरि धनु भोजनु भाइआ ॥
Har ḏẖan jāp har ḏẖan ṯāp har ḏẖan bẖojan bẖā▫i▫ā.
The wealth of God's Name is my adoration the wealth of God's Name is my penance and the wealth of God's Name is my food, which I relish.

ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
निमख न बिसरउ मन ते हरि हरि साधसंगति महि पाइआ ॥१॥
Nimakẖ na bisara▫o man ṯe har har sāḏẖsangaṯ mėh pā▫i▫ā. ||1||
Even for a moment in my mind I forget not the Lord God, whom I have obtained in the saints society.
|
ਮਾਈ ਖਾਟਿ ਆਇਓ ਘਰਿ ਪੂਤਾ ॥
माई खाटि आइओ घरि पूता ॥
Mā▫ī kẖāt ā▫i▫o gẖar pūṯā.
My mother thy son has returned home with profit.
|
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਚਲਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਬੈਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਜਾਗਤ ਸੂਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि धनु चलते हरि धनु बैसे हरि धनु जागत सूता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har ḏẖan cẖalṯe har ḏẖan baise har ḏẖan jāgaṯ sūṯā. ||1|| rahā▫o.
I possess God's wealth while walking, God's wealth while sitting and God's wealth while waking and sleeping. Pause.
|
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਲਾਇ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
हरि धनु इसनानु हरि धनु गिआनु हरि संगि लाइ धिआना ॥
Har ḏẖan isnān har ḏẖan gi▫ān har sang lā▫e ḏẖi▫ānā.
God's wealth is my bath, God's wealth my gnosis and with God I fix my attention.
|
ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਬੇੜੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਤਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
हरि धनु तुलहा हरि धनु बेड़ी हरि हरि तारि पराना ॥२॥
Har ḏẖan ṯulhā har ḏẖan beṛī har har ṯār parānā. ||2||
The wealth of God's Name is my raft, the wealth of God's Name is my boat and the Lord Master is the ship to ferry me across.
